Oh man, even to this day I'm still impressed by the animations when you shoot at the enemy. The parts flying and the enemies limping as you shoot them have this odd satisfaction that can't be replicated by any other games.
I remember playing a demo at a convention once and being impressed how destructive the robots were. I legit thought this game was going to be huge, and still don't understand why it didn't catch on
It's one of the few games I play on the highest difficulty exactly for this reason, since the more hp the enemies have, the more bits you get to gradually shred them off them as opposed to one shotting them in a big explosion. Bullet sponge enemies are a lot less obnoxious when you can see the impact every bullet makes.
Man, Vanquish and Binary Domain were two games I really wanted back into the day when I didn’t have money, both absolutely slipped my mind.. need to pick these two up.
Hell yeah! Vanquish and Binary Domain are such sleeper hits and amazing games. Some of my favorite PS3 games of that time and I STILL love them till this day.
I really enjoyed Binary Domain. It was a lot of fun, with neat robot designs and a really interesting philosophical question about what makes a person a person.
Topped off the a.i on those robots were cool. Like blowing their head off they become good distractions for enemies in fighting. Or blowing their legs off they'll go full terminator on you to grab you and suicide bomb. The plot had me interested, I honestly hoped if they ever continue this game.
by question you mean looking directly at the cameras and asking it, then never actually expanding on the topic beyond a token reference to the idea lmao
My favorite story for the voice command thing is apparently if you speak in the most borderline racist "Engrish" for those phrases it recognizes them much better. Likely because they DID playtest it... with primarily Japanese speaking testers. Not sure if it's true, but God it'd be hilarious if it is
One thing I remember from BD is how it flashbacks to Dan's childhood where he's smashing the family robot because it didn't stop his abusive dad. And then when he finds out about Faye's origins it goes back to the flashback, but he sees the robot as Faye... and continues to hit it with a bat. It's logic you'd expect in a game like Detroit Become Human, but it's a lot more interesting here because it causes Dan to start reevaluating his beliefs.
One of the most underrated Cyberpunk game out there. Tbh, it's also one of the best TPS by Japanese Game Devs. Even for today's standard, there are no robotic enemies as feracious & "breakable" as the robots in this game. Definitely should play the game on the hardest difficulty for the real "Rust Crews" experiences. The transhumanism concept for Hollow Child & Hybrid also rather interesting.
One of my favorite 3rd person shooters. Pretty much any game with a dismemberment system is amazing and this one takes full advantage of it, all the enemies are so fun to fight. It's amazing that they went from dead souls to this, the shooting in this game is so good.
Please don't spread false information. I joined the military and killed hundreds on the battlefield and not one of them ever said they loved me. Maybe I'm doing it wrong... 🤔
It's not a spin-off, it has nothing to do with Yakuza. It's just made by the same studio. It's not weird, it's fairly ordinary for a Third Person Shooter of the era. The weirdest thing about it is that it's actually good.
This is a damn good game, especially if you like that type of sorta kinda sci-fi/cyberpunk sub-genre. I really enjoyed my time with it back in the day and even had some fun with the multiplayer! Would love to see it back or even a sequel.
Jeez, this is a throwback. I remember playing it way back on PS3 and actually enjoying it...? To this day, I remember it for weird writing, a bizarre setting and strangely satisfying gameplay. Awesome video as always
I played this game on ps3 when it was free on ps+, despite coming to it with low expectations, I couldn't put it down. I remember absolutely LOVING it start to finish
Recently got this game on sale upon a reddit recommendation. Went in witb really low expectations. Came out remembering each squad member, especially Cain and Bo.
I remember one of my good friends I don't hang out with anymore loved this game. Great video. The nostalgia from the personal memory hurts but yeah, keep making great content pal.
48:54 I love this little string of words because I can imagine the hamster wheel in Danny's head turning faster and faster as he tries to figure out his feelings about the subject.
Someone covered it finally I found this game by accident actually the guy running the game store recommended me the game,Then I recommended the game to a friend he just played 1 min and said the game is hot garbage and moved on, But still thanks for covering this hidden gem of game
I remember being pretty blown away by just how GOOD this game looked when I got it on PS3. Even to this day I'm impressed with the robo destruction physics and such.
If i remember correctly i got the platinum for this, i actually quite enjoyed it i love shooting AI in games so to shoot robot AI enemies it was a bonus 😁
ah Binary Domain slapped. Glad to see someone else appreciated it. It's Backwards Compatible on Xbox as well! Also, you would have an easier time getting games with the lads that have heard of it if you mayhaps had a discord server 😜(inb4 Brando blocks me, or worse - makes a server and then bans me immediately, for pestering him 🤣)
Man i miss Third Person Shooters, haven't tried this game, but man i think if they give more effort, it could genuinely compete with Mass Effect back in the day with those dialogues, interactions and hub explorations
About the helicopter boss fight, you can legit fight it with the assault rifle or use a turret on the arena to absolutely tear it to pieces, destroying it on a secondary way by simply exploding its core instead of the propellers, it makes the whole fight a joke as you can destroy the missiles with the turret too
Never knew it was the Yakuza devs who worked on this. Good to see them having big success on Gamepass ,maybe there's a miracle and we get a Binary Domain 2.
Why the blatantly Click Baity tittle? This game has Nothing to do with Yakuza games other than it was made by the same creator! It is NOT a spin-off in any way shape or form! And you never talk about what you are claiming in this video! Don’t feed people wromg info
BD is still my most favourite 3rd person shooting. The storyline, comrade system, weapons arsenal, epic boss battles, soundtrack, multiple endings and fun online multiplayer PVP and horde mode made this game legendary for me
As for the trust mechanic, the game considers fully filling out each persons trust an achievement. However, to get the best ending, you just need to get everyone to 4 full blocks. You may have noticed during some menus that characters have both the full meter, and the small blocks that represent how much of the meter is reached.
Love this game and replay it every couple of years. Bo's catchphrase "That was suh-WEEEET!" when you headshot some robot is seared into my brain. It's just a fun, mostly brainless romp through scifi roboid-blasting goodness.
this is hands down one of the best 3rd person shooters period. Rarely do I ever have as much fun with a shooter as I did with this game was just so smooth and on the xbox controller thing was flawless. can replay it any day love the final boss battle
This game is great. Japanese games of this era had this weird, specific feeling that's unique to them, and Binary Domain has it too. The story is charmingly campy and engrossing at the same time. Very visceral, satisfying gameplay too.
finally someone mentions vanquish it was my favorite game as a child and when i beat it felt like the best sensation in the world looking forward to that video but this one looks great too so far
There's actually another way to beat Iron Raptor. There's a machine gun turret in that boss arena that you could use to skip using the Stinger. Way more fun to gun it down than scavenging missiles.
I seen this video in my recommended and chanted "BINARY DOMAIN?! LET'S FUCKING GOOOO!" out loud. I fucking love this weird, obscure game, and I'M SO GLAD you made the VANQUISHED comparison since I quite literally played both of them b2b on the PS3. Based gamesss
Yakuza storytelling and buddy system + Third Person Shooter, this and Dead Souls were good spinoffs, but sadly were very underrated. And Big Bo is a Bro.
It sell so bad that my local game store just gave this game out for free when I bought another SEGA game (Total War). It is better than I expected from game nobody else heard about. Robot parts destruction and chunks of them exploding out blew my mind and the squadmates are decent. I forgot everything else, except Helicopter boss fight. That is a torture.
I played the demo of this game and fell in love with it. Then I bought it at release at full price and fell even more in love with its gameplay, characters, story and multiple endings. I really thought it’s a goty contender but no one talked about it.
Huh, it's absurd to me that the game did poorly! It's one of my all time favourite 3rd person shooters. It's fucking awesome. Oh, and I found it funny the name Bergen. Since I live there.
Also i played with the spanish dub , and i rarely like the spanish dubs because they sound soul-less. The characters felt alive and the jokes were well adapted.
I liked this game for the robot carnage I could dish out. Made me look like a weirdo when I started shouting at the game and it wouldn't recognize my commands unless I said it in a stereotypical Japanese accent tho.
I don't see RGG Studios needing to needlessly make future sequels when they can remaster old titles that are unavailable to western audiences. It would truly bring more fans into the community
Still 1 of my favorite games, just like "Spec : The Line", both are awesome for different reasons. What I realy like in BD is you can talk to your buddies to strengthen their potential, some bonding, like "Onimusha 2 & Wing Commander", nice detail. Also the french robot stands out. 3 other games that are very underrated as well, are "Breakdown" for the 1st XBOX, "Hunted: The Demon's Forge", for different reasons, and "Asura's Wrath". Honorable mention, though I might be alone here, "Project Silpheed" for XBOX360 is nice as well. And now that I think of it, a small Tier-1 game, "Odin Sphere", because it's beautiful, and the storytelling & character-drama is very good.
I remember getting the game shortly after it first came out, woulda been around 14 at the time, and had an absolute blast with it! Might return to it via Steam sometime
Pvp was pretty interesting, 5v5 limited lives and in-match progression like Last of Us MP or counter-strike. It's setting is similar to Last of Us MP by using the groups from the story mode to stay "immersive" but separate. Government force (Police?) vs Resistance militia (Shindo's crew) Weapons mostly felt balanced for their roles in pvp. A tiny but interesting mechanic I enjoyed is that you can Sprint while hip firing any weapon. Sprint fire with the shield/pistol felt desperate, rifle/lmg/smg felt decent, and the Shotgun was downright lethal.
I'm one of the 20.000 people who got this game at release. I enjoyed it well enough, even with its quirky semi-functional voice command system, it was actually the gimmick that sold me the game initially, but I liked the gameplay and didn't end up being frustrated by its somewhat lacking execution. I've recently installed the game for my little nephew (I think it's a great 3rd person shooter for 6+ yo kids due to the lack of blood), and I actually got a craving to play through the game again myself. Thanks to your video I'm feeling even more motivated to do so :) I had no idea it was done by the team behind Yakuza before watching your video, I must ashamedly admit I haven't played any Yakuza game yet, even if I have some in my PSN library thanks to PS Plus I reckon. I did play a spin-off in Yakuza style, Fist of the Northern Star, and it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. I do find the game to be objectively very solid and quite fun, I might give it another go at some point. Wish you all the best in 2023!
I really liked this game when it first came out. Bought it on PS3 and was surprised by how much I liked it so I bought it again on PC. I don't remember why I didn't just get it on PC a launch 🤷♀️ Anyways, I even bought a 360 copy for my best friend on his birthday and he really liked it too.

I bought this on release for the ps3, was not dissapointed. I love this game, hands down my fav 3rd person cover shooter of all time. I replayed it fairly recently to check I actually did like it as much as I remembered, and apart from the shooting controls feeling slightly iffy, I think I enjoyed it even more than the first time. So sad we'll never see a sequal, this game was brilliant.
4:26 Lol facts. Even sequels that are generally considered disappointing like Mass Effect 3 and Bioshock Infinite scored 90+. (I actually kinda like ME3 lol, but it’s hard to argue it’s not a step down in quality from it’s predecessors)
@8:06 bizarro Majima I actually own this game; bought a physical copy on release. Never actually played it all the way through, though, and didn’t know it was an RGG game. Guess I oughta finally play it!
Saying that resident evil 6 "stripped back mechanical complexity" is pretty silly. Theming, sure, they dropped that, but RE6 is probably the most mechanically rich game in the series.
Typo in the video description. "They too a shot" at the end. Also, maybe intentional cuz it sounds like old timey wording, you wrote "there's not doubt in my mind.." Perhaps you meant "there's no..." but your current version kinda works anyways.
The reason Yakuza is alive is because of Sony primarily Higher Ups of the old Guard like Asad, Yoshi, Adam Boyse, etc and a certain beloved man wearing Hockey Jersey to ever PSX making deals to please the fans and the #BUILDTHELIST hashtag are the reason for Yakuza making it over to the west and the yakuza fanbase at that time.
I can confirm LE fixed squadmate achievement stuff. I was able to platinum all three games in one playthru Also you’re selling the shit out of this game, I’ve always thought about it but i somehow never knew RGG made it. Can’t wait to try this
Completely unnecessary aside: A state machine is basically a flow chart, where each point of the flow chart (the states) go to the next state based on inputs of events happening. A hierarchical version groups a bunch of states with commonalities to make the state charts not grow completely insane in terms of complexity. It's just fancy tech speak for "these AI have a really good flow chart for behavior".
Man, Yappi showing up as the leader of the Sotenbori Battle Arena is a direct plot-line tie in to BD. The weirdest (and one of my favorite) Yakuza game is Dead Souls.
15:59 this is a pretty easy to understand Computer Science concept, he’s talking about something an undergrad would learn week 2 of class :) look up Computability and Complexity!
You know I never realized before that MGS 4 basically ends with a Yakuza boss fight
Now i can't stop imagining Solid Snake doing a Tiger Drop as a Finisher at Liquid Ocelot Boss fight
ha mgs1 is also yakuza boss figt in the end
Two angry old men taking their shirts off and Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em headbutting each other to death because their elbows are broken. basically.

I can't believe someone compared this masterpiece of game with Detroit Human Revolution who needs to be blocked by a Rust Crew of sorts
I remember renting this game from my local Blockbuster. This game was so much fun.
Loved Binary Domain, thought it was a real sleeper hit of that Gen. I had no idea it was by the Yakuza studio, but that makes a lot of sense.
The boss fights thing is really interesting. I feel like Deus Ex: Human Revolution was the final straw and catalyst for that Boss Fight discourse.

Binary Domain is criminally underrated. It's my Gears of War. I have it on steam and PS3. I'll happily pop on to play
Amazing game. It flew under the radar of many people, but I had a blast with it. Getting everybody to survive at the end was a great feeling.

I did play a spin-off in Yakuza style, Fist of the Northern Star, and it wasn't exactly my cup of tea. I do find the game to be objectively very solid and quite fun, I might give it another go at some point.
Wish you all the best in 2023!
@ 19:35 "And..Oh..Its stressing me! Its stressing me! " 😆 It looks like that was what the character was thinking.

I actually own this game; bought a physical copy on release.
Also, maybe intentional cuz it sounds like old timey wording, you wrote "there's not doubt in my mind.."
Perhaps you meant "there's no..." but your current version kinda works anyways.
I was able to platinum all three games in one playthru
Also you’re selling the shit out of this game, I’ve always thought about it but i somehow never knew RGG made it.

Nope. Despite being developed by the same studio, Binary Domain is not a spinoff of Yakuza.
15:59 this is a pretty easy to understand Computer Science concept, he’s talking about something an undergrad would learn week 2 of class :) look up Computability and Complexity!
