2:20 The worst part is that, were it not for Sony making a poll on which high requested Japanese only game to localize and taking the matter into their own hands. We would never have gotten a translation of Yakuza 5 for the PS3. Period.
I also remember that the PS Vita had a similar poll near the end of its support and the "Ryu Ga Gotoku Companion App" was included in the list, the Sony rep(?) conducting it was trying hard to get them all localized but sadly the companion app didn't make it. Basically it was coliseum battles and typical gamble minigames but also includes playable Sega games like Monkey ball and more, all on the go and would link to Yakuza 0 to receive your winnings.
I think it's not just that fans were begging and annoying Sega to bring Ishin to the west for the longest time (though that was assuredly a big factor) but I remember reading some interview with one of the people at RGG studio that said Ghost of Tsushima's success was a big reason they decided to translate Ishin as well
It's really weird to me that a Japanese studio needs to see a western studio make a very Japanese game to decide that their very Japanese game would do well in the west. Especially since the parent company is SEGA, and they already did this with Shogun Total War 2 like a decade ago, where a western studio made an extremely Japanese game that did incredibly well for its market (and was one of the best games in that series).
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe Not really, it's pretty standard stuff in this medium. Ishin wasn't even the first game in this franchise to be Japan exclusive. Japanese companies won't localise a game if it's unlikely to make money. Yakuza was lucky enough that its popularity rose overseas.
@@Sneeds_Feed_And_Seed69 I feel like if they ported Kenzan over to modern consoles because it was only on the PS3 and would essentially have to build the game from the ground up which will cost money and a fanbase to support it.
If you check the Japanese version of the Kaito Files, the ape/gorilla references are all there in the original dialogue/system text. And the three-line subtitle is a direct quote from the historical Sakamoto Ryoma, often interpreted as a haiku, meaning three lines of 5-7-5 syllables is a natural fit for the subtitle. Looks like another feather in the editing team's cap to me!
Yeah that quote's actually a Sakamoto Ryoma tanka, basically a haiku with two additional "lower phrases" so the pattern is 5-7-5-7-7. 世の人は 我を何とも 言わば言え 我なすことは 我のみぞ知る (Let the people of the world say what they may say about me. Only I know what I've done.)
My only main issue of Ishin Kiwami is how you no longer do combos from behind since bosses will turn around after the 1st hit of the rush combo unless there's a southpaw bracelet in the game. (and yes it was there in the original I'm not joking)
In lieu of rear-combos they just made it so your opponent doesn't block until you've hit them 3 or so times lmao. Atleast with rear-combos you had a chance to get a finishing blow off but now you die for even trying.
At this point I think it's just a matter of time before a full on remake. The subject matter would definitely bump up the rating of the game but I'm fairly sure the fanbase is dedicated enough to buy it anyways
@@ashikjaman1940 Lol, yeah. Once you know what a "Kamuro" actually was, which is a plot point in Kenzan, "Kamuro-cho" ends up feeling like a fundamentally darker place.
As you didn't mention it in the video, we apparently have Ghost of Tsushima to thank for RGG reconsidering a localization of Ishin. But this was a very informative and great video and I'll be picking up my PS4 copy at some point!
Something people don't mention is when you get to the trooper cards, the UI is permanently changed. Even with the cards unequipped, the styles are still moved and when you change styles you sometimes still see the outlines of where a card would've been lol. Plus, you can't hold RT to stop heat actions without seeing the card UI pop up. I just want the old style UI back. Please RGG, just give me an option to permanently disable cards outside of dungeons
I think that outline stuff is a bug 'cause it doesn't always show up for me, but I know what you mean. Considering the backlash and the fact that they told everyone "you can just not equip them", I dunno why they didn't just add in a toggle haha
@@SnowiestAngeman I see plenty of people playing without cards so it's a matter of time until more mention it. At least fix the outlines, makes the game look incomplete
Dude been mulling over getting this for a few hours watching videos and those massive cards in the corners has been my only thing holding back. Hope they change it
First time playing Ishin and 10 hours in, and I'm having a blast. I did have some worries about the localization quality after hearing that Scott stepped away but its a great and polished localization. Big thumbs up for the team for tackling such a hard game to translate. PC port for me wasn't that bad. The stutters were there, but they basically disappeared or were extremely minimal 2 hours in. The stutters are listed in the known issues so patch is coming soon (maybe around the actual non-early access launch?). Also interesting to hear the changes between the orignal and the remake. A lot of the problems you mention won't impact the average player, as you will only really see/feel it if you've played the original.
Yeah well the thing with the stuttering is that after you play for a while a lot of it will go away, but it does mean that sometimes in a cutscene a cool moment might get ruined as the game freaks the hell out lol
Scott and his team really are the MVPs of making this game so enjoyable to gamers outside Japan. I still love that SEGA added some animation to address the meta humor of Ichiban and the American tourist.
I dunno what it was about this era of development by the RGG team, but for whatever reason the trainer themes were way better than you'd ever expect. The trainer music in 5 was also way better than it probably should have been, especially Leo the Aristocrat's theme. Also, there's a pretty good chance at least *some* of the PC issues will get ironed out over time. I'm currently playing Judgement on PC since it released not too long ago and they kept updating that from release last year up until the present with various fixes.
They removed the theme for the Saigo and Katsura and replaced it with Town Bully from 6, Which sucks, because I'm pretty sure it's the only theme they removed from the original. Rhapsody of Chivalry went so fucking hard as well aaaaaaaa
If you go check out devilleon7's day 4 ishin stream where he did some Ultimate Battles at the start, the bear fight(1:27:01) still uses Rhapsody of Chivalry just like in OG ishin, so I don't know why they had to replace the theme when it's still in the game.
If you told me I could be playing a remake of Ishin on a handheld (like the steam deck) at 60fps a few years back, I would have called you crazy. It’s insane how far we’ve come
Still need to finish Lost Judgement, the school story activities are too much fun! But I'm sure as shit getting this right after I'm done! Love the videos man!
Lost Judgment is quickly becoming one of my favorite games of all time and it makes me sad to think there may never be a third part due to stupid legal issues 😔
Im just so happy to understand the story and everything else, sucks that the opening got taken out and changed some heat colors but im pretty sure mods will bring that stuff back
I’ve honestly been loving the remake, I never played the original so I’m glad that after years of waiting I can finally experience it. It’s very disappointing to me that they cut the Rhapsody of Chivalry for the fight with Saigo and Katsura and replaced it with Town Bully from 6. The original Ishin track for that fight is amazing and it’s one of my favorites in the franchise as a whole. Sad to see that it didn’t make it.
I've played both the original and the remake of Ishin for quite a long time now, and probably my most noticeable observations are: Introducing RNG to the seal and crafting system, and providing you with no consistent way of finding or acquiring seals without investing even more money into the already-massively increased cost of the crafting system means you not only have to spend a ridiculous amount of time digging in the already-sluggish Battle Dungeon for crafting materials, but also grinding money to spend on the raw cost, which is exorbitant even with the crafting cost reductions of Level 20; only to then have to roll a 67% Enhance chance that might fail and waste the seal you have no way of finding consistently again anyway. The "Exclusive Seal" being on every unique weapon rather than just Enchanted (blue) and Style (green) feels quite nasty, considering part of the 100% Completion list is to synthesize every seal in the game. Crafting costing more money doesn't really achieve anything but making the mid-game more grindy, (though the end-game suffers a bit too) which is not the time you want to be interrupting the flow of the game. Typically (and this is how I felt in the original) RGG has more respect for the player's time unless you are actively seeking completion or optimization. Enemy health bars feel much, much longer, even on just Hard difficulty, I'm finding myself with Best Oni-maru at 1352 attack, with one-sword style buffed by Shinada's card attack/defense, in the overworld, having to slash one random goon for an entire, full combo with the double finisher before he dies, whereas in the original he'd probably drop after three or four slashes from a well-made Mikazuki Munechika, with no Shinsengumi buffs at all. That's to say nothing for the Brawler style, which can't be EASILY buffed anymore thanks to the aforementioned seals being ruined, and the gauntlet that specialized with the Brawler buffs on it doesn't have that seal anymore. The Brawler parry also inexplicably doesn't work against certain attacks (such as the odachi stab), or has a mysteriously-shortened window where you'll get your guard broken instead. Enemies feel as though they ignore knockdown or stun effects far more commonly. The Battle Dungeon replaces several of the boss enemies with gigantic, hulking monstrosities, three times the size of Ryoma, who take absolutely no hitstun, continually throw flaming darts at the player (which is about as fun as mashing X to get off the ground repeatedly) PRESUMABLY in an effort to get you to use the more unique Shinsengumi heat actions - which would be great, if it followed the same pattern of charging all of your trooper abilities at the start of every mission, WHICH IT DOESN'T. Each trooper remembers its charge through each battle, and the idle charge times are so incredibly long (also changed from the original) that if you do accidentally die against a boss and all your good card abilities are on cooldown, you get to stand around for minutes before a fight, in each style waiting for them to re-charge, or go off and do something else before coming back to try again. (Looking at you, Five Tiger Generals.) The big enemies can be cheesed by any "Kamehameha"-style Shinsengumi heat action, I know, but I despise 'enemy that's really fucking annoying unless you use one specific technique that just completely invalidates them' because that's boring as hell. There's a reason my Gun style is the least used despite how broken it is. There are also strange signs of laziness in various changes - the Promotion system for cards doesn't seem to work, despite the game telling me I have the option to. There's empty ? slots in the Materials tab of your inventory for the now-removed powders that you would refine your weapons with in the original, which obviously have no use now. The bug where the Scarecrow Mansion clear rewards reset still exists for some reason. The cool animations that used to play when you finished a fight with an Extreme Heat action now appear to be either modified, broken or missing half the time. This, on top of everything that you've pointed out, does leave me wondering what could've been in a perfect world. I say pretty much all of this out of love for the original and, despite all that, I still enjoyed the re-make and a lot of the QoL changes that were made. Hopes are high for a patch or two to iron out some of this nonsense.
I think the Kaito Gorilla thing comes from the fact that his voice actor, Crispin Freeman voices Winston from Overwatch, who happens to be a gorilla, and he uses a very similar, albeit slightly softer version of Kaito's voice.
It's in the Japanese lines as well. Fun fact: first time Kaito is referred to this way is in a pop up in OG Judgment. NPC in town mutters something along the lines of "Has anyone heard rumors of the Drone Gorilla around here?" Please excuse the literal translation.
I think you can credited Atlus USA back then especially Scott as he is a Atlus USA employee SEGA sees the localization work of Atlus USA so it make sense why Yakuza/LAD series thrive now.
Yeah you're right in that. I remember Scott actually saying a while ago that Atlus USA in a way saved SEGA of America from being canned or something along those lines
@@SnowiestAngeman Yeah cause they look how Atlus USA care about localization of their games. And now you can see the effects nearly all SEGA & ATLUS games is now worldwide release than before having 6 months between JP and International release.

Awesome video. It was cool to get some background on the significance of this game being ported and localised. I’ve been enjoying the shit out of the game, it’s like a perfect combination between the modern Yakuza/Judgment games and the flex gameplay of things like 0. I’m keen to see how the story pans out - but I will say, the PC port is doggy doodoo. RGG, give us ultrawide and compile shaders in the menu BLOODY HELL
I wish the game had more dynamic intros, like you’re telling me the Daigo stand in doesn’t get one (and if you played the game, you’d know just how important he is), same with the 1v2 against the Ryuji and Akiyama stand ins
Thank you very much for the detailed explanation and review. I was surprised by the borders around the screen too originally. I hope that they fix the issues on the PC port.
I felt actual, physical cringe whenever bosses would use the card powers, and also when these unreasonably huge armored enemies would show up. Both of these have no real place in the main story imo, but other than that, it's definitely worth playing.
Just fought Izo and I felt cheated when he just pulled up the spinning tornado turbo trash move and wiped my ass clean wtf Also the big bandit leader being a massive armored wasn't expected and it ended in a sour experience too Also somehow every bosses seem to stop your rush attacks 3 lights in, nitpicky but it'd be 99/100 if weren't for these
I believe the gun fusiliade (?) sometimes knocks bosses down. Also one thing I hate about this game is that it has very slow menus like in the old games. The menus were much faster to navigate from Y6.
They were slower in the original compared to the modern games, but one thing definitely wrong with this remake is that for some reason some of them are a lot slower than originally
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe Yep. It wasn't the same one that's in the other games or in real life, it was just instrumental and sounds more like it belongs. It's actually really cool and I'm sad it's not in this game
@@tkm3294 this game is fucking shit. it is not a remake like RE1 gamecube set for gaming its just a trashy modernization. Utterly tired of game "remakes" tbh without preserving the originals
I find it funny that RGG felt this game had too many cultural barriers for western countries like America, when this game just allows you to BE American, with the gunman style.
I saw the health bars, and particle effects and I got scared thinking they completely reworked the combat into something similar to Kiwami 2 or Yakuza 6, where your animations are unsatisfying as hell, and you feel like you're fighting in jello, and everyone just kinda flops around.
I'm so happy I stumbled across this video. I originally wasn't gonna play the remake cause I was SO salty it was ported into the dragon engine. I really loved yakuza 0/kiwami's engine so I wanted to play ishin purely cause it'd be the last of its kind. It's real cool that they didn't change all too much after all tho! My only complaint now is that some of the old ui was overhauled and look more modern/less yakuza 0 looking but that's honestly a small nitpick. The new team did a really good job keeping everything faithful to the original im so excited to try!!
There is certain deal of pain and anger knowing you're broke as hell and therefore you cannot enjoy yourself some of that Ishin action everyone gets to talk about.
porting the original game would have been so much better. Being localized is not an excuse to the new flaws that this new entry has. But at the end of the day, its still ishin, and ishin its an awesome game
It's just mainly that they couldn't justify a simple port for the Japanese audience, but at least this game can act as good practice for them and updating the game over time surely isn't out of the question for them
The game ran mostly fine for me except for s few graphical issues like the last cutscene in chapter 13 messing up and having near epilespsy triggering flashes of white randomly. There was also the issue of everyone looking like a super saiyan when Kyoto was on fire.
The combat in this game is so frustrating. Ryuma always freezes at the start of fight and enemies just slash u right away. Hitbox is confusing and parrying only works half of the time (even though I’m damn sure I hit LB clearly before getting hit). Grab is better than LJ but still weird. Camera control is just pure gabbage (up and down, always blocked and come to a full stop)
4:21 Really wish they couldve converted this Old Engine combat feature of enemies not being able to turn around when being comboed. Made punish game feel really good but now the Unreal Engine just lets them turn around instantly when hit from behind. (also the komaki training boss in the remake still has this feature what the fuck rgg!!!!)
To fix the ultrawide issue, set the game to fullscreen and choose a 16:9 resolution - you'll get rid of the artwork, and UI assets won't go over the borders
All that does is stretch the image lol. Only proper fix people have done so far is make the borders transparent but sadly not everything is rendered in 21:9, even after doing some hexadecimal edits
Ultra wide cutscenes does not work if the cutscene was not made for ultra wide in the first place. Even if you were to extend the frame to ultra wide, you would see things you weren't supposed to see. As well as just ruining cinematography and camera work. Now no ultrawide in gameplay? Yeah, no excuse for that.
I absolutely loved the new team putting surnames first. That's how it is in Japan, and how it is in the audio, trust your players to understand that's how names work.
There are mods on PC to remove the widescreen borders for cutscenes in 0-7 (I think), we'll probably get a mod for Ishin as well. Sucks for widescreen console players though, hope RGG patches it.
Sadly the strats I used to make some of the ultrawide mods for the game doesn't work with this one, and other mods that would edit the .exe of the game don't seem to work 100% either. So, if it isn't fixed by the devs, it may be a bit before modders fix it
I beat this game last night and I loved it. I heard about this game after I beat Yakuza 5 in 2014, I have waited 9 years to play it and I think it was worth the wait. Something to note about the cutscenes, if you go to SEGA's channel, they've uploaded some of the cutscenes as part of trailers and they run at 60fps. I immediately noticed they were 30fps and just thought it was a console thing, but no, friends playing on PC have said the same. Apparently there's a day 1 patch due tomorrow, I do wonder if this is an issue with the pre-release "early access" copy of the game. Either way, wasn't a deal breaker, the PS5 version doesn't suffer from any performance issues other than a bug I experienced in one of the games final cutscenes where it kept randomly cutting to black, I watched the cutscene back via the replay feature and it was fine. I also had the music completely die in the final fight of the game after I paused, which really killed the mood lol. Overall I'd recommend this to ANY fan and I'd even recommend it to those who aren't. I found the combat to feel a bit stiff compared to modern RGG games but as you unlock more abilities it really starts to feel damn good.
Yeah I have noticed that with the 60fps cutscenes in some of the trailers. I wonder though if maybe they either messed up something when releasing the game, or they only bumped up some cutscenes to 60 JUST for trailer footage. If it's the latter, that's pretty dog lol
I don’t really have a problem with stuttering and I think like a lot of the bugs with the pc port of the judgment series it might be a pc part specific issue which sucks but I hope Ishin gets regular updates like those ports to fix some of those issues, I think they released an update for the stuttering issue
So long as they can tone down whomever is on the team that's a terminally online twitter user it'll probably be fine. It was frustrating to see Saejima say stuff like "be better" in the Y4 remaster.
The sad thing is it wouldn't even affect sales and people who don't know jack shit about Japanese wouldn't even understand the difference! Almost like they can get away with it unpunished!!
@@x-ray_channel2226 Whatever the actual line of dialogue was written to be in 2010, not the terminally online translation of it from 2021. It is actually less difficult to just translate dialogue correctly.
As someone who hasn't played the original Ishin or Lost Judgment (yet), I'll admit that it took some getting used to with the combat. In comparison to Judgment the combat gives me that Yakuza 5 clunkiness to it, which makes sense, given both games were originally made around the same time. Though I'm getting used to it all over again. Like a skill that you'll never unlearn almost. Still happy that it's finally been localized.
A few things I wanted to add or point out. Enemies have a bit more super armor than usual? Probably the reason why guns knock them down more and deal more damge even to bosses. Also you can style switch mid combo from any style like the recent games instead of just hand to hand style. Really wish they kept that wild dance evasion strike cancel tho
i guess the only thing that holds me back from just instantly jumping on this title is the cards system. I don't like how yakuza got progressively less overexaggerated kind of realistic and more just borderline goofy, with the whole RPG stuff and their insane "heat actions" in 7 and now the element-summoning shit in ishin kiwami. I'm glad whenever a game presents you a choice of playing the old way and the new way (looking at Fire Emblem for instance) and I'm disappointed this isn't available here, because i feel like with these things in the vibe is just so different. Yakuza to me was always about the brilliant pacing of slow, serious cutscenes with weight behind them and atmosphere so thick you'd get a boner and fast and outright cleansing combat that makes everyone fighting look like badasses while still keeping them within boundaries of reality. I hope that with next couple of installments they go back to that kind of dynamic.
On my first playthrough of this game on PC, I immediately installed the ultra widescreen mod, without ever starting the game itself. Took me til watching this video to find out that the game permanently has borders for beyond the normal aspect ratio. Lowkey despicable.
Only gripe is that most bosses have super thick armor that they'll start knocking you back after 3-4 light hits into the combo (swordman) - it's very hard to punish them and it results in a more slow and methodical approach in 1v1 boss fights I'm fine with it but sometimes it feels tiring
@@SnowiestAngeman I was eating dirt on Nagakura fight and Okada hut fight took a few tries too Going from LJ Hard to Ishin Hard is a noticeable upgrade, I got my ass handed to me a lot but upgrading my weapons seem to help a lot
I agree with both ultrawide support for gameplay, the text not crawling offscreen as if it was too shy to be around and the 30 fps thing (though fps above that really only matters for gameplay too if you ask me, I mean no one's complained to cinemas about how 24 frames are so last-gen or anything like that so y'know, whatever) but I never agree with ultrawide cutscenes unless they were made to be that way. These cutscenes were composed and animated for 16:9. That's the aspect ratio they were designed for and where they should stay. Forgetting the fact that in 3D animation it's very common for some strange fuckery to be happening off-screen and it'd take a bunch of time and resources to make sure the stuff that was never meant to be in frame looks fine too, going ultrawide could completely fuck up the shot compositions by adding tons of unnecessary unused space to both sides. Unless all the camerawork and animations were made for ultrawide, just keep it in the aspect ratio it was made for.
I don't mind all too much when they don't have ultrawide support in cutscenes as almost all games these days do that, but it's just the fact that the ENTIRE game has the borders that shit me off
@@SnowiestAngeman Yeah, I getchu. We all know the real crime and the reason this remake is a 100 times inferior to the original is what they did to thr bathhouse scene though. Absolute fucking disgrace, RGG should disband and every Sega employee should commit seppuku before I help them do it.

Thanks for reminding me to thank Gio Corsi for being part of the poll, and having the honors of announcing the game's English release. :)
Especially since the parent company is SEGA, and they already did this with Shogun Total War 2 like a decade ago, where a western studio made an extremely Japanese game that did incredibly well for its market (and was one of the best games in that series).
they should port the original along with kenzan
@@MidlifeCrisisJoe Not really, it's pretty standard stuff in this medium. Ishin wasn't even the first game in this franchise to be Japan exclusive. Japanese companies won't localise a game if it's unlikely to make money. Yakuza was lucky enough that its popularity rose overseas.
Funny enough there is a cinematic mode in the game…just like Ghost of Tsushima.
I caught that it was a haiku, I didn’t realize it was a historical quote! That’s super interesting
Yeah that quote's actually a Sakamoto Ryoma tanka, basically a haiku with two additional "lower phrases" so the pattern is 5-7-5-7-7.

My only main issue of Ishin Kiwami is how you no longer do combos from behind since bosses will turn around after the 1st hit of the rush combo unless there's a southpaw bracelet in the game. (and yes it was there in the original I'm not joking)
I wonder though if stuff like that is intentional or not because it really feels like a bug, but might not be at the same time
In lieu of rear-combos they just made it so your opponent doesn't block until you've hit them 3 or so times lmao. Atleast with rear-combos you had a chance to get a finishing blow off but now you die for even trying.
@@SnowiestAngeman same thing happened in 3 remaster where 60fps made enemies instantly turn around and block attacks
I’m just happy Ishin finally got localized 9 years after the original came out in Japan.
Maybe there's hope for Kenzan getting a localization. It takes place a few hundred years before Ishin
At this point I think it's just a matter of time before a full on remake. The subject matter would definitely bump up the rating of the game but I'm fairly sure the fanbase is dedicated enough to buy it anyways
@@ashikjaman1940 I think RGG Studio has stated that they will consider a Kenzan remake if Ishin does well.

If what I hear is right and RGG no longer have the original source code, then it'll have to wait til after Gaiden and 8.

@@SnowiestAngeman I'm still salty from the stutters in chapter 4's cutscenes
Yeah the updates the Judgment PC ports ended up getting does make me hopeful that this game gets the same treatment

We do, in fact, live in a society.
I'm a simple man. I saw Kana Momonogi making a return in Ishin, I preorder the game in a heartbeat
It’s insane how far we’ve come
except it changes enough to not be a remake, rather a modernization
Pretty much the main reason why ishin got localized was because of Ghost Of Tsushimas success worldwide, by that reason im one happy fella.
6:26 whenever I hear this kurohyou 2 track that pokemon cry always gets me💀
Knowing the Pokémon company, I'm surprised no one ever was ever shot for that song lol

Lost Judgment is quickly becoming one of my favorite games of all time and it makes me sad to think there may never be a third part due to stupid legal issues 😔
Lost Judgement was my pick for GOTY in 2021. Of all the Yakuza spinoff games made so far, it's easily my favorite.
Honestly this is now my favorite Yakuza/Like a Dragon game. I’m happy they remade it
The reason the last names are first in the credits is because in Japan you say people's family name first and their personal name last.
Im just so happy to understand the story and everything else, sucks that the opening got taken out and changed some heat colors but im pretty sure mods will bring that stuff back
Unfortunately because it's in Unreal Engine modding might be a bit harder. But I guess we'll see what people end up changing around and/or fixing
I've played both the original and the remake of Ishin for quite a long time now, and probably my most noticeable observations are:
Introducing RNG to the seal and crafting system, and providing you with no consistent way of finding or acquiring seals without investing even more money into the already-massively increased cost of the crafting system means you not only have to spend a ridiculous amount of time digging in the already-sluggish Battle Dungeon for crafting materials, but also grinding money to spend on the raw cost, which is exorbitant even with the crafting cost reductions of Level 20; only to then have to roll a 67% Enhance chance that might fail and waste the seal you have no way of finding consistently again anyway.
(Looking at you, Five Tiger Generals.)
The big enemies can be cheesed by any "Kamehameha"-style Shinsengumi heat action, I know, but I despise 'enemy that's really fucking annoying unless you use one specific technique that just completely invalidates them' because that's boring as hell.
Winton

I wish the game had more dynamic intros, like you’re telling me the Daigo stand in doesn’t get one (and if you played the game, you’d know just how important he is), same with the 1v2 against the Ryuji and Akiyama stand ins
The shogun doing kamehameha wave is fucking ridiculous.
Just fought Izo and I felt cheated when he just pulled up the spinning tornado turbo trash move and wiped my ass clean wtf
Also the big bandit leader being a massive armored wasn't expected and it ended in a sour experience too
Also somehow every bosses seem to stop your rush attacks 3 lights in, nitpicky but it'd be 99/100 if weren't for these
not worth imo. Then again I have the original I compare it to sitting near me
Big armor dudes were in the original too. I agree on them being annoying though.
Worst part about the trooper cards is that they aren't optional, even if you don't use them the bosses will.
Out of all the styles they should've speed up it should've been sword style
Couldn't agree more lol
I believe the gun fusiliade (?) sometimes knocks bosses down.
Also one thing I hate about this game is that it has very slow menus like in the old games. The menus were much faster to navigate from Y6.
For real, I feel like I press B like 5 times to continue after saving the game lol
They were slower in the original compared to the modern games, but one thing definitely wrong with this remake is that for some reason some of them are a lot slower than originally

As an old head who went through the dark days before 0, you’ve did a fantastic job at documenting the significance of Ishin finally getting localised!
Bro this game doesn't run on the Dragon engine
There is certain deal of pain and anger knowing you're broke as hell and therefore you cannot enjoy yourself some of that Ishin action everyone gets to talk about.
Might just have to turn to a life of crime and become a Yakuza to buy it
Unfortunately I don't have the gameplay armor therefore I can't become Ryu Ga Gotoku.
Hopefully it sells well enough because I always wanted to try the musashi miyamoto game that came before ishin originally.
The three line subtitle at 7:42 is a haiku! I think that's really good!
porting the original game would have been so much better.

A sad day in video game history :(
The game ran mostly fine for me except for s few graphical issues like the last cutscene in chapter 13 messing up and having near epilespsy triggering flashes of white randomly.
I hope RGG decides to take another look at the PSP games.
I hope the fuck not unless it is just ports with higher res and audio and good translations
4:21 Really wish they couldve converted this Old Engine combat feature of enemies not being able to turn around when being comboed. Made punish game feel really good but now the Unreal Engine just lets them turn around instantly when hit from behind. 12:51 The double, triple, QUADRUOPLE fakeout on the game and this video.
"you should definetely play this"
as if i wouldnt
To fix the ultrawide issue, set the game to fullscreen and choose a 16:9 resolution - you'll get rid of the artwork, and UI assets won't go over the borders
All that does is stretch the image lol. Only proper fix people have done so far is make the borders transparent but sadly not everything is rendered in 21:9, even after doing some hexadecimal edits
I’m learning about the naming convention for the first time in this video, wowww
12:18 As of RGG8 these games are basically weird dreams that Kiryu had.
I absolutely loved the new team putting surnames first. That's how it is in Japan, and how it is in the audio, trust your players to understand that's how names work.
Biggest problem with the remake for me at least, is the goddamn texture pop-in during cutscenes. It's so fucking distracting.
Instead of continuing to play Ishin rn I’m watching a video on Ishin. Well, I’m sold!
Instead of continuing to play Ishin back then I was making a video on Ishin. Well, I've sold!
Jokes aside though thanks for always commenting lol
I don’t really have a problem with stuttering and I think like a lot of the bugs with the pc port of the judgment series it might be a pc part specific issue which sucks but I hope Ishin gets regular updates like those ports to fix some of those issues, I think they released an update for the stuttering issue
sega is aware of the frame rate issues so i'm sure we will get a day one patch on the actual launch that fixes it.
I hope the new translation team doesn't mess up later down the road
So long as they can tone down whomever is on the team that's a terminally online twitter user it'll probably be fine. It was frustrating to see Saejima say stuff like "be better" in the Y4 remaster.
The sad thing is it wouldn't even affect sales and people who don't know jack shit about Japanese wouldn't even understand the difference! Almost like they can get away with it unpunished!!

I wonder why aizawa still uses the basic boss theme
Just gonna pray they remake the two psp games now🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Port or no remake at all.
Since the ishin remake is amazing. We should rally to get a remake of Dead Souls
Man I want the old graphic instead of the new one, the new one look so bright and kinda killed the art design of the original
Only gripe is that most bosses have super thick armor that they'll start knocking you back after 3-4 light hits into the combo (swordman) - it's very hard to punish them and it results in a more slow and methodical approach in 1v1 boss fights
I'm fine with it but sometimes it feels tiring
The difficulty of bosses has very noticeably been upped in this remake. Not sure why lol the game was already hard enough
@@SnowiestAngeman I was eating dirt on Nagakura fight and Okada hut fight took a few tries too
Going from LJ Hard to Ishin Hard is a noticeable upgrade, I got my ass handed to me a lot but upgrading my weapons seem to help a lot
The video started to buffer right after you spoke about the stuttering so I wasn't sure if it was a deliberate bit or not at first.
That's hilarious hahaha
I was doing so well on not getting this game until it was on some degree of sale until you posted this. Damn you.
Playing the game for the first time in PC, it's great. Does not feel dated at all. Wish it had more boat/cart stations, running everywhere is a pain in the ass.
