You can say that again. The only other anime scene that came close to showing a team effort in fighting a great evil at that time, was the final battle in Digimon Series 1. In fact, watching the final battle in Outlaw Star reminded me of the final fight in Digimon!
This takes me back. Still as awesome as I remember it. I always get pumped whenever I see the final battle for the Leyline, and the music makes this battle all the more perfect. So glad I grew up watching this anime!
@@OutlawMantis I would love to see a reboot of our law star as long as it's done right in all the original creators have a say in it. Secondly as long as it's not politically correct I'm all for it.
@@dn7491 Nope, not that one. There was going to be a second season that's a proper continuation, rather than Sword of Wind which was planned to be a short OVA set three years later.
That’s like G-Gundam too they was suppose to make another season. But scrapped the idea 😔💯! I really wondered if the McDougall’s would be on the second season
The fact they had Tom Wyner (M. Bison from the Street Fighter II anime) as Hanzanko and Gil Starberry (Mr Gone from The Maxx) as Hitoriga really shows class to cast them both as "final boss" characters from this anime. Used to catch this on the UK channel CNX with Cowboy Bebop back to back in the early 00's.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that Gene is like a combo of Han Solo and Bob (from Reboot). Han Solo for obvious reasons, but Bob because of light hearted irreverence and tongue-in-cheek nature. Han Solo is a bit more serious than Bob IMO.
If Hazanko wanted this kind of power to kill both the Tempa emperor and Tendo king, i really wonder how powerful they were.??? Guess we'll never know.???
It could very well be that there power level is the over 9000 but Gene had the power of friendship and that beats everything else in anime. Also I'd like to think that due to my personal headcanon about Melfina's wish that Gene became immortal so he literally could not be killed by Hazanko.
There was supposed to be a season 2. Gene would have been on a mission to rescue Fred with a new experimental spacecraft called sword of the wind. Sadly the rest of the outlaw star crew wouldn't be in it. Jim hates Gene, Melfina went off to college, Aisha got her old job back and Suzuka whereabouts were unknown.
You're sort of right, but that was Sword of Wind, an OVA. There actually was going to be a real season two with good ideas for a story (including the return of Shimi and the crew facing a different pirate faction) and the plans are available on the web. Just look for the SW book's English translation on the website address lasagne.moe
Not gonna lie for the first couple of years after I heard Hazanko say "Tendo King" I thought thought he had said "Nintendo King" (to be fair I was still a kid when I first watched this...way back in the 90s 😅) after however many rewatches of the series on the DVD set my family has I realized it was just "Tendo King" . I think what I miss heard it as originally is both funnier and in some ways (okay not what right word to use is) intimidating(impressive maybe?) From a kid's perspective. Just thought I'd share that so we all could have a laugh.
It's a shame that the Geomancer was turned into a makeshift horror with Hazanko's face. The base design on its own could've made into a living, nightmarish creature given that it looks more like a monster than a functional ship already.
I love the grappler ship concept. There’s a zero percent chance that in the future space naval battles occur even remotely within visual range. It’s empty unobstructed void space between you and the enemy. We can already today detect things that happen on Saturn from earth. You think I’m 300 years space ships get remotely close to eachother and don’t know it???? Zero percent chance. I swear on my soul. All space naval battles all of them occur outside visual range. All of them.forever. There’s no reason you don’t know the enemy is there. There’s not even air between you. They’re the only mass only warmth only radio signal at all period for ten thousand miles…. Yeah you know they’re there and no one fights in meekes. ALL naval battles are long range rail gun or missile barrages. I garuntee this on my soul it’s that certain. I like grapplers they’re neat. Ain’t Gona happen ever not once ever. Lol
The man who wishes for everything. Is nothing agains the man who wished to protect this one thing. Seek not riches. Seek love. And thy desire shall be granted. That is the moral of this show. Gaza ko wished for power and died. Gene wished for melfina and escaped alive and happy. Wish within reason protect what you love. And you will receive the ultimate treasure.
Man everyone wasted the power of the leyline.Hazanko and his lame ass wish to just be more powerful than the Emperor... Uhhh, how about just wish to become a god, buddy? Also it woulda been pretty cool if Gene wished Hilda back.
I see your point, though somehow I don't think the Leyline "God" would be willing to give somebody powers that rival their own. Hazanko probably wanted to possess the whole Tempa Empire so that he can exercise his desire for absolute tyranny and oppression. It would have been nice to see Hilda again, but there was no way it wasn't going to be a romantic ending, given how there was something hanging between Gene and Melfina throughout most of the anime version of Outlaw Star.
@@OutlawMantis I mean it does not need to be as powerful as the leyline. Just invulnerability and much more powerful. The leyline says it can bestow all, so it should be near limitless. But then again Gene was apparently using the full power of the leyline in this fight and Hazanko was still a challenge so I don't know. Also it did not need to be romantic with Hilda, just bringing her back would have been pretty cool for the ending. Man I wish this series would get a sequel. A reboot would also be pretty cool, just more Outlaw Star.
Hands down my favorite anime ever. This brings me back to a special place in my childhood. 1997
That was the year I was born.
Yeah man it was good during that time wish we could go back in time man times were simpler very tranquil
Remember, Hazanko's wish was for power. NOT immortality.
Also remember that Gene and Melfina had the power of the Galactic Leyline
And his wish for power drove him somewhere beyond insanity.
Gotta be real specific with them wishes, buddy.
@@madskillz808 Right?! The key line even gave him a ‘is that your final answer’ moment as if to warn him when it said,”THAT is thy desire?”
My personal theory is that Melfina actually made herself and Gene immortal because her wish was to stay with him "forever."
“You’ll pay! I’ll make you pay, GENE STARWIND!!!!”
Hazanko, driven beyond insanity by his lust for power.
He may not have been complete sane even BEFORE that.
Gods, there’s nothing more anime than a “Power of Friendship” moment, and for an over the top anime like Outlaw Star, it fits to a tee! 😙

This was a great series finale.
Before Gurren Lagann, we had this ♥
After Gurenn Lagaan I still have this, this is still one of my top series of all time.
Soooo much better than gurren lagann
This ship combat is actually fuckin crazy
I met God. - Gene Starwind
despite really enjoying this series the fighting could have been better and the series deserved 40+ episodes
It certainly deserved a second season. It's such a shame that it almost got one but was cancelled.

I would have wish Hanmyo back for Jim.

can you picture seeing a live action version of this? it would be awesome. Still hoping for something new with OLS.
I'll settle for a great video game adaptation.
We sort of DID see a live action version...Star-Lord vs Ego in GOTG2.
Same it would be nice to see this show come back
Omg yes
Yeah I would love a game. Netflix better not touch it with a live action version. If they ever adapt anything OLS related they should adapt the manga.
The OST is now on Spotify!
This is the track that plays during the battle:

Pretty neat but some of the music is missing, including the first one in this clip.
The Japanese sure do like the whole out of control power body horror trope
I would've enjoyed this bit of dialogue: Gene: "This is what it looks like, Hazanko, when the little guy stands up to a tyrant...and KICKS HIS ASS!"
Gene should have wished for huge wealth and endless caster shells
It's a shame that the Geomancer was turned into a makeshift horror with Hazanko's face. The base design on its own could've made into a living, nightmarish creature given that it looks more like a monster than a functional ship already.
The way that Hazanko and the Geomancer fused with Tobigera was also rather horrific.
