Don't even have to watch the video to know the answer, of course it is. The car comes with a huge engine bay, a very well-balanced stance, an amazing suspension setup that responds well to lowering springs or coilovers, can take V6, V8, V10, V12 swaps with no problem, including the famous I6 swaps. The car has a near 50/50 weight distribution, a lower center of gravity than some Ferraris, and incredibly predictable and controllable handling characteristics, I bought one when I was 19 (I'm 21 now) and that was honestly one of the best decisions I've made because my performance driving has gotten 10x better, I couldn't hardly drive a stick, launch properly, drift properly, but this car is so easy to learn on. My dream is to LFA V10 swap one one day, or put a NASCAR TRD V8 is one like that Japanese drifter guy did into his LFA. Something like that would be incredibly bad ass, short of winning a lottery though, one of those two probably won't happen, so I'd settle for a 2JZ swap in the near future.

I always questioned how come many people dont tune automatics? like seeing the Scion i mean toyota tuned kinda makes me wonder why arent people doin it a bit more.
The chassis can handle more power than stock, but adding the power is crazy expensive on this platform. The supercharger and full exhaust alone on that car is about $8,000 before tuning- and that's just to get to 300 whp, which is about the top end for reliability on stock internals. Factor in the work done on this car and you're looking at $12,000+, not including the body mods.
NW FRS a full exhaust for an FRS is an easy $2500 with decent components. Jackson SC is $4000, tuning license is $500, oil cooler is $600, etc. factor in wheels, tires, suspension, and you’re talking a fair chunk of cash before labor. Just going based off of this build. Obv. you can slap a SC and a tune on a car for like $5000, not including install.
mjmont92 wtf. $2500 for full exhaust? No. My full 3inch from Perrin was 1k. Dezod $1200. Lmao. And wheels tires and suspension aren’t needed for boost. You said it takes 12k to get 300whp. That’s way wrong. It’s half as much. Do you own an 86?
NW FRS Maybe I came off incorrectly, just saying this build is easily $12k plus. I do own a 2013 FRS, but I’ve only done Tein Flex Z coilovers, OZ wheels, MPSS tires, DBA rotors and Hawk pads. Full exhaust means header, over pipe, front pipe and catback. That combo is definitely $2500. I’m looking at the Corsa catback for my next mod- still undecided. Are you boosted?
Just some facts and a few observations/opinions: The FA20 is making about 100hp per liter. Pretty decent for a reasonably reliable NA motor. Flat engines have many intrinsic advantages. Form factor for lower mounting. That, and they're well balanced similar to inline engines. The BMW 128i has similar performance with an extra liter of displacement yet instead of getting peanut gallery complaints of being "slow" it's referred to as a "genius" design of a "light and nimble chassis." "Slow" cars today are faster than moderately fast cars of time's past. Adding this all up while keeping in mind the base MSRP I don't see where the problem is. I have to agree with some, I think the more appointed cars aren't a good value. But nobody bats an eye when a Porsche or other circlejerked marque has an extra 20-30k in options on a particular model. With that said I think the pricetags on the tS or TRD have zero bearing on the value of the base model trim.
Another thing: As mentioned in my OP I think this motor in stock form in this chassis is an engineering win. Car enthusiasts say they want well engineered cars. But really what they want is a boat anchor iron block to throw boost at so they can do highway pulls and get some C&C cred. All the while going on oval track videos to make left turn jokes, and posting muscle car jokes that died a decade ago.
It's not the best platform for mods in terms of engine power because you have to spend alot of money to make any power and no torque. But it makes a great platform to swap anything into it and has alot of aftermarket support. I refer to this car as the new 240! I love mine and was my dream car since 2012 and finally got mine in 2016 !
no different in other EU countries, In Belgium you are looking at least 33.5K€ and with options it goes up to 37K€. It's as if Toyo/Baru are making their European customers pay for the cheap retail price Americans get. Then people are surprised we buy European hot-hatches that are cheaper, practical, more fuel efficient and drive circles around the BRZ/GT86. The Toyota Yaris GRMN is 35K€, now that is ridiculous. especially since it can barely keep up with the new Fiesta ST and Polo GTI.

I wanna buy one of these used, retrofit the 4-banger from the tenth gen civic si (LB15) and call it a day. 300/350 whp with a beautiful power band, excellent fuel economy and that's with a mild setup. There are dudes pushing 500+ whp outta that 1.5 4 banger.

But mine makes none of the noises heard in this video, and only makes 221 the the wheels. Unsure why this makes far more power and noise from the exact same kit.
Nah, c6z Is the greatest platform out there. Its highly attainable price wise and you can go any route you want to go and if your skills are up to par you'll more then likely find yourself at the top of each area. I feel like you meant to say equal length to make more power..?
I have a BRZ with a stock motor besides headers and tune and at 82k miles the valve springs broke and shot through the valve cover
the boxer motor is just one of those engines you dont want to have turbo lag on, if the wrx had a supercharger itd be miraculous. Though I do still love my WRXs
I know you live in Gwinnett, and they have a couple E85 pumps. I know Race Trac at Peachtree Industrial and Sugarloaf has it!
I don't live in Gwinett if your referring to me. I'm up in Northwest Georgia almost Tennessee.
@@xl3px495 I referring to ThatDudeInBlue but okah lol
I always questioned how come many people dont tune automatics? like seeing the Scion i mean toyota tuned kinda makes me wonder why arent people doin it a bit more.
The chassis can handle more power than stock, but adding the power is crazy expensive on this platform. The supercharger and full exhaust alone on that car is about $8,000 before tuning- and that's just to get to 300 whp, which is about the top end for reliability on stock internals. Factor in the work done on this car and you're looking at $12,000+, not including the body mods.
mjmont92 what body mods. $12k ur crazy. $4 k turbo kit with Garrett, $2k supporting mods. $900 tune and install yourself. $12k lmao
Are you boosted?
mjmont92 yes. Jdl 2.1 turbo kit. Uel manifold, jdl op, mid front combo pipe to Perrin. 3inch full system from manifold (header) back.
At 0:10 what is the song
the induction noise almost sounds like ITB's, pretty cool that this kit is CARB legal
Just some facts and a few observations/opinions:
The FA20 is making about 100hp per liter. Pretty decent for a reasonably reliable NA motor.
Flat engines have many intrinsic advantages. Form factor for lower mounting. That, and they're well balanced similar to inline engines.
The BMW 128i has similar performance with an extra liter of displacement yet instead of getting peanut gallery complaints of being "slow" it's referred to as a "genius" design of a "light and nimble chassis."
"Slow" cars today are faster than moderately fast cars of time's past.
Another thing:
As mentioned in my OP I think this motor in stock form in this chassis is an engineering win.
Car enthusiasts say they want well engineered cars.
But really what they want is a boat anchor iron block to throw boost at so they can do highway pulls and get some C&C cred.
All the while going on oval track videos to make left turn jokes, and posting muscle car jokes that died a decade ago.
Anyone know what that song is at 0:10?
It's not the best platform for mods in terms of engine power because you have to spend alot of money to make any power and no torque. But it makes a great platform to swap anything into it and has alot of aftermarket support. I refer to this car as the new 240! I love mine and was my dream car since 2012 and finally got mine in 2016 !
Jcw mini coopers I have one and it’s making 280hp and 310 lbs ft of torque
Also is the hood aftermarket im looking at the same one and not sure if hood pins are a must
Too bad that in Greece a new one costs almost 40K euros...Europe and its engine taxes. Everything 2.0 up is stupidly taxed to almost double the msrp.
,exoume ta saxorala emis😂
@@nikosbenopoulos7306 😂😂🤣
no different in other EU countries, In Belgium you are looking at least 33.5K€ and with options it goes up to 37K€.
It's as if Toyo/Baru are making their European customers pay for the cheap retail price Americans get.
Then people are surprised we buy European hot-hatches that are cheaper, practical, more fuel efficient and drive circles around the BRZ/GT86.
The Toyota Yaris GRMN is 35K€, now that is ridiculous. especially since it can barely keep up with the new Fiesta ST and Polo GTI.
this is so true, same in the netherlands
saxorala kai 18 aria vag gia emas file
The auto doesn't seem to be half bad, it even goes up to redline!
and when you hit redline in manual mode it'll stay there
I wish you would just tell us the TITLE OF THE SONGS in the description because I like listening to them. Like when you used the "Make Me Move(Remix) FEAT. Karra", see, it had a title! David please start posting the title of these songs and not just the channel of the artist! Thanks!
I think a cool little idea to switch up the review vids is to also include GoPro/POV shots also while you’re driving & talking and doing pulls. I feel like it’s a simple but effective implementation!
Mod list?
fa20 DIT is in the new sti not an ej same fa20 as the brz but with a turbo and lower compression.
This car is heckin rad. I never really liked these cars, I've definitely had change of heart
I kinda feel like the exhaust sounds boring, like I get it, it's a super charged FRS but like idk maybe it's better in person.
I know Dan just got a new zl1 1le but you should get in touch with him and review it when yall get together the videos are the best
How reliable is a some-times-rough street driven supercharged frs?
Can these things get 100k reliable w/ sc?
I own this car and I enjoy every single minute of it
This isn't your car.
Great video as usual!! One of my favorite cars right now, these are such a great platform. If these things were a hatch, that would be awesome imo. That sound is very interesting.....
That's FRS is hella clean
I have a 2014 frs (manual) with a Jackson racing supercharger kit on it. It performs okay but honesty is nothing spectacular. Far better than NA however. But mine makes none of the noises heard in this video, and only makes 221 the the wheels. Unsure why this makes far more power and noise from the exact same kit.
Does anyone know where I can find that robin badge/emblem ?
What size wheels and amount of lower is it? Fits that wheel well like a glove
Since you have driven both turbo and Super charged versions, which is better for the FRS? I am thinking about adding FI to my 2013 auto.
Nah, c6z Is the greatest platform out there. Its highly attainable price wise and you can go any route you want to go and if your skills are up to par you'll more then likely find yourself at the top of each area. Doesn't matter if its road racing events, quarter mile drag events or runway events for showing off big power, you'll end up making other cars many times your cars value look silly.
We Got a 2jz 86 which is lovely still love the thing
If your ever in south east pa I would love to let ya drive my 2015 wrx
