    • @TheBlackWaltz
      @TheBlackWaltz 9 лет назад

      H0okemh0rns Both sports cars you can have for around the same price, but the turbo kit is going to push the frs into GT range. But the new mustang has IRS, and the ecoboost only weighs 3550. Yeah, heavier, but it comes with more features, more power out of the box, and apparently handles very well. Yes the frs probably handles better, but does it handle the extra power well is the question really.

  • @StreetSpeed717

    I can imagine why anyone would think this car doesn't need more power. Exactly like you said, take off the ridiculous tires and put on some good ones, and give it more power. 300 sounds perfect. Great job man!

    You people are dissing a well-balanced $25k base price sports car. This car is an amazing platform with ever expanding aftermarket support. I personally love my FR-S, it's a fantastic car and I've never thought of it as under powered. Mods include 1" drop on coilovers, UEL headers, aftermarket exhaust, cold air intake and FT86 style spoiler. It's a headturner and an absolute blast to drive and I get amazing gas mileage, I love it.

      Why'd you get rid of it? And you're a Subaru fan with a Mustang? Not saying that you can't be a fan of both, or that the Mustang isn't a great sports car, I'm just really surprised thats what you chose to buy after owning a BRZ. It's on the complete opposite end of the spectrum for what a sports car is lol.

  • @trinipattan1472
    @trinipattan1472 8 лет назад +21

    Both the s2000 and the fr-s are great cars in their own way. I love the fr-s because it's simple and a great platform for modification. Driving it on a track gives you the opportunity to enhance your driving skills. things like corner apexing, heal-toe and trail braking can be learned on these cars, making you a faster more proficient driver. Driving this car is more about being able to maintain momentum through the turns than point and squirt. Don't get me wrong, high power sports cars are a blast but this is a great starting point and as your skills improve you can add more power and take yourself and the car to the next level.

      Only thing is, the FRS handles and feels much better than the mustang. The Mustang is great if you're wanting straight line power, FRS for people who want to feel in touch with the road, learn to drive better and carve some canyons. Mustangs feel like boats compared to the 86 twins.

    I own one of these cars and it reminds me of many Porsche's, 911 and Boxster, i have had a couple , you have to be aware of where your engine in reving and keep the rpms high in this car to keep it lively. If you are mindful of that the car is pretty lively. However if you just step on that gas in low rpms you are reminded it is a smallish 4 cylinder. On the positive side of less horsepower is the enjoying stepping on the gas without having to slow it down in two seconds in fear of speeding tickets. Porsche has an alarm you can set on your speed and that ding ding was always going off. Very happy with the FRS.

    The skinny tires are part of what makes the BRZ/GT86/FR-S so great. They allow you to break traction and have a thrilling time cornering without going dangerously fast.

  • @aisu8481

    This car is excellent for this specific situation: If someone wants to learn to drive quickly, but isn't skilled enough to deal with high speeds yet. They can learn every skill necessary in this little fun-box, and when they are ready for speed, slap on a supercharger/turbo, coilovers, and some wider/stickier tires. Heck, do more if you want!
    On a side note: for goodness sake get the differential riser. I blew my cv joint on friday at the track because the rear axles are at an angle that strains it. If you are not an advanced driver, it shouldn't be an immediate problem, but it will be...

    Yeah I definitely agree that the toyobaru twins need just a little more power mainly torque from factory! Cause and frs can get out dragged by the TC due to the TC having more torque and they need to stop with the prius tires because again due that stock the TC can get close to the same lateral G as the frs because the tc comes with better and wider tires.

    I'd love to have one of these with a little turbo on it...a nice exhaust, intake, tune with some stickier tires, and youd have a little sleeper on your hands that would probably upset a few people. 300 whp in a 2800lb car is plenty

    My kind of car. But in comparing gearboxes, forgot to mention the Miata MX-5. Same sweet shifter. My favorite car I've ever owned (owned mainly family friendly vehicles). Miata has a great gear box. Is similar in many ways to the FRS and S2000 -- weight distribution, ability to handle speed through curves, and an add-turbo. Also, what's with people that dis turbos? Turbo-lag. Sure even modern turbos have a slight lag, but when do you not know when you are going to need the extra power a half-second before? Just get on it a little before you need it coming out of curve, etc. It becomes 2nd nature very soon.

    I have loved the look of the FRS/BRZ since they were revealed. I feel like the only reason these cars don't get a turbo is because Subaru, the company with rights to the engine, is afraid the WRX would fall off the map in terms of sales. So, they feed us bull crap excuses and expect us to accept them. It's a shame. Just my two cents.

    Great video, although, um, isn't there at 2:22 151 lb-ft of torque? Im pretty sure with 90 ft-lbs, this car would be MUCH slower. Even converting 151 crank torque to wheel torque would still yield greater results.
    Still, love the vid!

    • @TheBlackWaltz
      @TheBlackWaltz 9 лет назад

      titleguy1 That 151 ft-lb of torque at the crank. After the usual 15-20% drivetrain loss, it's closer to 120-128 at the wheels. Not too bad really. His 90 was more of an exaggeration than anything haha.

    fyi thatdudeinblue. 151lb. ft. of torque at the crank with drivetrain loss equates to about 130-135 ft lbs. at the wheels. 90 would mean a 40% drivetrain loss. Nothing has had that since the automatics of the 1940s.

      DoubleD 613 I have no problem with people asking for help if they want a car, but he took it to the limit by asking for a brand new out of the box Mustang, and he want even satisfied with the standard package. Heck if it was me in his shoes i would have bought a used car, have spare money to modded it(which mean more videos), and use the last remaining chuck of the pie for a turbo kit to giveaway to a winner of some sort. I only lost respect for the guy when he started pulling reasons out his ass for not getting X-Car vs the Mini Cooper. X-Car doesn't have good MPG, X-Car Safety rating not high enough, X-Car not new enough, at that point no respect was given.

    I understand both sides of the boosted GT86 argument, I think that the car doesn't need to be fast, its not a racecar, it's a car that builds a driver and will give rewarding feedback in everything you do. Allthough, if you want to build a fast one then all the best, to each there own.

    This car needs a few things to be perfect. First, it needs more low. It is at a performance stance as he calls it, but it just needs a little more. Second, it needs to be debadged. So many badged on the back, between tomei, frs, and scion. Third, it needs less stickers. Finally, fourth, the tow hook needs to be taken off the front

TC's FRS is really close to the build that i had in my mind, and has only reconfirmed that this is what i am going to do to mine. Thanks David ThatDudeinBlue for reassuring my build. Also if i could get some advise to whether the Innovate Motorsports Twin Screw Supercharger or the 67mm turbo. not looking into tracking the car, but would like to do a few pulls here and there. which do you think would be the better choice

    I would Super before turbo on this little car honestly, I think the linear-ness of the supercharger would preserve the "purity" of it and keep it feeling very stock just with more punch. Maybe 275 at the wheels with a linear band? That sounds pretty sweet to me...
