IMO the 1st Gen Impreza is the best looking one. There's a WRX STI down my street with the 555 rally design that colin McRae used on it in the mid 90's. That things a beast, it sounds like God's ripping a huge fart when it's going down the street, LOL.

Leeroy Jones While your comment is really a subjective one, I generally agree. Some like the GC8 chassis, some not.
Imo, there is no substitute for the GC8, one generally tunes his Impreza to make it faster, reliably, well, performance oriented enthousiasts at least. Tuning means also making it lighter yet stronger as well. The GC8 is the best option, put the same tuned engine in a GC8, you have a 250..300kg lighter trackmonster instantly. There are plenty of videos on this, I own a tuned 555 since '99, `only` around 300hp, will keep it as long as I can. It's a gem. Better yet, put a turbo H6 boxer subaru engine in it, tune it to heaven, there is no competition on drag or track.

A friend of mine had an silver 04 that he bought new as a daily, just added a few bolt-on pieces. I thought he was crazy for selling it but it wasn't my car. Fun and very torquey.
Thank you for bringing up the subject of getting screwed and thinking you're invincible being that it's an AWD car. Not hating on the Subys but I've run into this with so many guys that own those. There's been a few that totaled their rides from that "invincible" mindset. All I'm saying is please respect the machine and don't abuse it in a way that gets you, your cool points or anyone else hurt.

There aren't a lot of cars i see and immediately love everything about but this one definitely fits the bill.

My mechanic, who's a certified Subaru master tech, daily drives his Black 05 wrx. He calls it Blackie. He owns his own shop and does everything from tuning to motor building. Blackie is putting out 540awhp running on 91 octane and water/ methanol injection (devilsown kit with a failsafe that he created himself). 2.2 closed deck fully built forged and micro polished internals motor. and still running top mount intercooler. an after market big bulky one of course. It also has anti lag on it too. Its his daily beater car that he drives everywhere in any weather and is constantly modifying.

I have a pretty nice 2010 STI. I have a few pics of it and the dyno print outs on my myspace portfolio linked to my youtube. All I've done to it myself so far was all the paint and powder coating. The original owner bought it new and took it to Subaru Rally Racing and had over $27,000 worth of work done to the motor and suspension and it has the fully rally suspension package on it. In the end the bill was paid but he couldn't afford to keep up with the payments because of financial problems and lost it. My friend who is actually a mechanic at Subaru Rally did the work on it had called me because I was looking for a newer WRX than my 08 and said it was off to auction for cheap. I end up buying it for a little over $17,000 with barely 10,000 miles on it fully loaded as well in 2012 because so many modifications were done to it the Subaru dealer could not make money back on it so the original owner got stuck with the remainder of the bill of the car. So here are a few listings on the receipt that came with the car from Subaru Rally that were done. I'm not listing all of what was done cause that would take to long. Apparently the top part of the block from what my friend at Subaru Rally said is prone to crack with high boosts so they added Company23 torque plates to start with, CP forged piston's and rings, Darton Sleeves for strength, ACL over sized bearings for the crank for cooler and better oil control, K1 forged crank, GSC valve train, larger roller rockers, the heads were massaged, Process West Intercooler, Koyo aluminum radiator, ACL Orbit performance oil pump, Perrin oil cooler, Blouch Dominator 5.0XT-R, Cosworth camshafts, DeatschWerks 1,000cc top feed injectors. My buddy said when they originally did the dyno when the original guy owned it after the 5th pull at 36 psi of boost they got 793hp to all 4 wheels at 7123 rpm and 794lbs of peak torque at 4750 rpm. I do not have it set up that way, we actually dropped the boost down to around 23-25 psi.

It's a cool and well made review, although I would never go for that amount of power. My previous Impreza had a full suspension kit (lower and stiffer) installed, upgraded brakes and brake lines, super-light alloy wheels and +40 hp. With 500+ horsepower is more a drag-race beast rather than an everyday (and trackday) car. In my experience, speaking of purely stock cars, what the Subaru lacks is pure agility (rather than power or torque) in favour of a more enjoyable and relaxed ride, whereas Evos for example are more nimble and somewhat angrier right off the bat. That being stated, I would always go for a Subaru and tune it, just for the sound they make.

Hella tuned ecu, the gears sound short only because the turbo sounds fully spooled as soon as you shift each time.

*I've owned a Sti before and it was hell.....I didn't make alot of power with a lot of mods and it wasn't reliable. I had a misfire (broken piston rings and then rod knock) I traded that thing in for a new evo x and I've never been happier*

Well I agree with you, about the 4WD impression of advantage, somewhat though. I know that on a perfect paved road, with the perfect tires a real race car is RWD, but the WRC and rallies types are almost always AWD. I know what you mean, you must know how to drive it, because if you don't, you end up with a FWD understeer, and this can play you a bad trick. Anyway, I think that given the right swerve, break, or experience lets say, the car can slide, and it can be handling better then a 2 wheel drive, especially in rainy or snowy weather. You are so correct and I agree with your vision on everything else though. People like me will do that all day, the blow off I mean, haha

to me dude in blue i love the lancers and the subarus, it almost seems like you can't live with out the other if there's a lancer there needs to be a subaru. There almost like the yin and yang of the automotive world in my eyes.

Holy sh*t! Good thing (Moore) got that car right after all the little issues that could possibly happen. I agree with everything he was saying too, and my personal favorite is the blob eye. That thing just uses all it's power efficiently and is definitely clean sounding. Sucks there expensive to work on but hey, if u got the means to do it heck ya! Sweet car.

If you put a front mount on a subaru it is best to get a new hood without a scoop to keep the engine bay from having high pressure

After hearing argument after argument about weather the wrx or evo is better I don’t think either is “better” it’s mostly preference. I do disagree with the statement that evos are cheaper to build for high horsepower just from experience working on both.

Subaru has definitely come along way over the years. A big difference between an 06 wrx and a 2014!! Except the engine of course. As for the engine idea I can not see anything other than the boxster. I love it..

ThatDudeinBlue I think its time for a turbo veloster review. but one worth while. like the orange on from 845 motorsports. its quick. just a thought. they are up and coming believe me. my father has one there nice and quick for what it is I drive an 07 gt lol

justin rodriguez Stock veloster turbo is another 2015+ fast looking slow car just like the civic. I've owned both cars. Great turbo but the acceleration is a nightmare I lost almost every race in that thing. Great handling but I mean that's not really impressive nowadays with all these new small cars they're pumping out

subies arent bad, and i would love to own an old forester, and do an sti conversion... but im just not a big fan of boxer engines, and for a few other reasons i would choose an evo over an sti any day, although i still respect stis, and they do look pretty nice.
