I've adapted M glass to my GFX 50R and now my 50S ii. I love it, and some glass virtually cover the entire sensor with some vignetting, and there's always the 35mm mode to get a true full frame performance!
If you could a speed booster it might be worth trying again. You might be able to close down the aperture a bit to avoid purple fringing, but still get a stop more light in.
Is there a speed booster available for this? I brief search on google yielded no results. Only ones are for Leica R to Fuji X. Think there may not be enough space for the optics.
Goughie... questions! 1. Do you have a gallery of shots taken this way on both lenses? 2. How about shooting on the Xpro bodies? They are "rangefinder" style. 3. Do you find that the cropping of the edges of the lenses mean you are loosing the character, the lovely soft fall-away edges that you would see on FF? Thanks!
I like the way it boosts my telephoto lenses by a factor of 1.5, For wide angle shots in astrophotography, I bought the Rikinon 12mm F 2.0. This was a nice leap from my Nikon FM2n and the discontinued Provia 400F film pushed 2 stops for astrophotography. With different adapters I can use all my old vintage lenses from RE Auto Topcons to Leica ltms.
My adapter (which looks identical to yours) has the same infinity focus issue. Not being able to throw the lens to infinity can be annoying, but when you see how far it is (a millimetre or so), it's usually okay to adjust to. I've adapted M lenses to my X-E4. I pretty much rely on focus peaking and zooming, but it's EVF is small. Have taken some nice photos with the combo. I enjoy fuji's colour profiles and being happy with jpegs, so it is a nice setup. Probably fun to pick up some old M lenses and try them out.
Leicas are out of my price range (fine, Voigtlanders might not be), but I do use my Olympus Zuikos and some M42 lenses on my Fuji X cameras, usually with good success. Yes, cuz Leica lenses are for rangefinder cameras they might be sharper (i.g. closer to the film / sensor course of lack of mirror in between), an added benefit of using SLR / DSLR lenses is possibility to use focal reducers due to increased focal distance...
Definitely helps having the finger tab on these! But the experience is basically the same, results might vary a little! I find with voigtlanders the bokeh is really pronounced! Which can be quite subjective
Even using native x-mount lens, I notice that when focusing to infinity, the entire scene is a little bit out of focus. I'm not sure if you noticed the same before with fuji lens.
I understand that if you are in manual focus the needle has to be in the middle of the infinite symbol, not in the far left, I don't know why it is and or course maybe you know it and the issue is because other thing.
Dude! I've noticed the Infinity thing as well when adapting my Leica lenses to my Fujifilm but didn't think of it that way - totally makes sense though!! I LOVE adapting my Leica glass to my X-Pro3/X-T3. I use the 50 Summicron DR and 90 Elmarit-M as my primary product photography lenses on Fuji.
If you look closely on the adapter there is an arrow showing exactly where the infinity focus is. This is a small distance away from the hard stop which is a little past infinity.
Interesting video, i adapted an M mount voigt 35 f2 ultron to my xpro3 and I really love the rendering, but like you said - its a bummer about the crop factor making the lenses longer as I, too prefer wider stuff(28/35) so the ~50mm eq is pushing it, plus i already have the amazing native fuji 35 1.4 Curious, i wonder how the mitakon 35mm .95 compares to adapting leica glass? Obviously it’s probably a step down in sharpness but i wonder if its close enough at a fraction of the price.
To add - i DEEPLY wish voigtlander or someone would make a manual focus, compact, high quality 28 and or 35mm equivalent lens that was sharp @ F2 and didnt have a goofy lens body design. Like the M mount ultrons but for X mount instead
@@KnuckleDragger42069 this! I do wish they just stick to keeping the ergonomics normal! I loved my 28mm ultron f2 M mount because it’s normal, not some weird focus ring design
7 minutes without people in black suits standing in front of your door. doesn't seem so bad after all. :D the split screen view I did not know yet. I have try it out. Update: The X-S10 does not have the dual screen function. 😅
I shot with the Leica-M system for decades and then lost trust in the company due to their disastrous M8 rollout. Bummed out by this, I foolishly sold all my Leica kit, glass included! Now I have discovered the Fujifilm X system and sorely regret my earlier decisions.
@@Goughie I'm kind of a contrarian in many aspects of modern photography. I don't really care for cameras as long as they maximize the lense's potential. So I mostly look for samples from specific lenses to see their image rendition and then check which camera can squeeze the max out of any given lens. The Leica stable has e.g. the Leitz 90/2.0 that covers 645 medium format and does an amazing job as a shorter portrait lens.
@@Goughie f1.2 to start with, sharper from f2 to f4. Smaller, Waaaaay cheaper. Better rendering than the new Voigtländer 35mm 1.2 and less glow from 1.2 to 1.8 etc
@@Goughie according to some online tests it's as sharp as xf35mmf2 from f2. I never pixelpeep. I like my finished images in print. But the 7artisans 35mm1.2 mark2 has surprised me many times. I tried the 0.95 but much more prefer the 1.2.
This makes a lot of sense to me. Leica's whole history is producing class leading glass. Their pedigree in making digital sensors is very limited and nothing to get excited about. I'm always confused when people pay 10k for a Leica camera then adapt a third party lens to put on it.
That damn rear lcd screen on the Fujifilm though. Lean over, pull out, twist, realign aaaand repeat. Then leave it sticking out like a sore thumb. No thanks. Tilt screen forever.
Funny enough, this video convinced me not to want Leica glass on my fuji. I think the fujicrons have better bokeh and less ca from what I’m seeing here
Leica glass isn’t going to make you take better pictures! I find all too often people are obsessed about gear and only half interested in the creative process!

I’ve seen a couple videos on this! And would love to give it a go at some point! Crazy that some of them cover the full medium sensor
This is the best combo.
How did you do that? Do you need a special adaptor ring?

Fantastic video!
I hope try out such a combo, love the fuji colors.
beautiful glass w/ beautiful color film simulation body!!
I live using Leica R lenses on mine gfx50s. The colours are incredible
Ohh lovely! Being a fujifilm user, its really cool to see what it is like using leica glass on it, awesome video, thanks!
Woo yeah! The colours of the pictures are always a treat! Good stuff :)
That was fast! 😂
I was holding my phone right as the video was uploaded :)

I adapt Leica R to my Fuji. But mainly the 60mm 2.8 Macro
I use my xt2 with a SUMMICRON-R 50mm f/2 (type 3) omg the black and whites....
really? can we see some of your shots anywhere? thx

I have never tried using leica glass on fuji, but, if it's the crop factor that is bothering you, trying the speedbooster might solve your problem :)
Hi, any idea how a Leica M 28mm Elmarit would work adapted to a Fuji body? Any problems like smearing or something else? Thank you!
Even using native x-mount lens, I notice that when focusing to infinity, the entire scene is a little bit out of focus. I'm not sure if you noticed the same before with fuji lens.
Oh really! I’ve never looked tbh! I don’t use manual focus enough with the native lenses. I wonder if it’s to help with autofocus

If you want perfection, you should try Leica glass on a Fujifilm GFX.

Do like a tilt screen for photography! But the flip screen is ideal for making videos and it’s predominantly my video camera

Using a cheap adapter would worry me more about doing damage to the leica lens than the fuji body. 😂
It is a little sketchy 😂 I didn’t care to much in the past connecting up my voigtlanders…. But now I do 😂
you put a 5K lens on your camera but you wouldn't spend more than 25 30 bucks for the adapter lol
And guess what…… the more expensive adapter isn’t any better…. It £150 Fujifilm one…. Wait for it…. Also doesn’t focus at infinity
fair enough@@Goughie
