Nice vid man, but you're wrong about the native Fujifilm M-mount adapter, it's not just a dumb connector; it allows you to program the corrections for distortion, falloff and color shading for each lens (which you definitely need with Leica glass on a non-Leica body). For all the other adapters these correction options are grayed out.

So my copy of the 21mm f4 arrived for my x-pro 3 and I love it--I absolutely love it. It's insanely sharp and the ergonomics are beautiful. Tysm for the recommendation.

One of the reasons I added the x-pro3 to my gear was exactly that: being able to use all my M lenses without having to get yet another set of lenses. Interestingly some of my rarely used lenses (mostly an Elmarit 21mm f/2.8 ASPH used for architecture) found a new life in street photography as a (almost ) 33mm !
Nice. I had a look on eBay what those Minolta 400 f2s are worth out of curiosity, and holy crap, not in my budget at close to aus$1000. Not worth complaining about adapter prices at that end of the market. I've experimented with a few vintage lenses, one of my favourites is the Canon 50mm f1.4 LTM, it produces beautiful images in a compact lens that looks beautiful too. I have a few faves in other focal lengths too for portraits.
Not only did you make me laugh harder than I have all day with that “first of all I’m an adult” segment, but you immediately taught me something afterwards with the manual focus markers! I have been actively shooting almost daily for over 5 years now and own an extensive amount of Minolta cameras and glass, and somehow never knew the reasoning behind the fstops on both sides of the lens… I certainly feel dumb seeing as I use these things daily but now I know 😂 Awesome video
Great video rant !! I own 6 cosina lenses and use them exclusively on my xe3 and xt20 and my favourite is the yashica yashinon 50mm f2 lens because it’s colours pop like and apo lens and for 80 dollars it can’t be beat
Great video! Adapting manual lenses gives so many options and combined with some recipes my Fujifilm XE4 is a beast. For AF I like to keep a 18-55 kitlens with me.
I have an adaptor for my Leica M 35mm and 50mm, Mamiya 645 Sekor 80 mm, and now Canon FD 50 mm lens. So much fun to have a second home for the film camera lenses, and so fun to use on my XPRO 3.
You were the chosen one, you were supposed to stop the GAS not join them! 😆 Damn you have me convinced this is what I have to try next. Great vid as always.
You covered this perfectly ! I have had some lovely results with voigtlander lens on my x-pro 2 and especially on the x-e1. I love that color Skopar ( I rarely shoot below f5.6)
I have a lot of Minolta and M42 mount lenses which I like to adapt to my X-T2 with a focal reducer. I wish all Fuji cameras had the same focus view as the XT2 where you have the view of the scene and a small focusing square in the viewfinder where your focus point is. For me, it's the best focusing aid to use with manual focus lenses. The X-pro 3 is on my to get list but for now I'm more than happy with the results of my X-T2. Nice review.
The TT Artisan 25mm f5.6 knock off of the Leica Summaron works quite well on the X Pro3. Its about 40mm equiv in full frame terms, but it has been designed for scale focusing and works really well. I got it for street work with the OVF, particularly monochrome in daylight so I can just stop it down to F11 and forget the focussing. It also works well for monochrome in lower light if you let the ISO float, quite convincingly film like results if that is what you want!
This just convinced me to purchase an X Pro 3 next year (after my wedding). Just before this, I was searching for non-Leica M mount cameras. Then I checked Fuji's latest offerings and the X Pro 3 really caught my eye, especially the distraction-free mode of the flip screen and the "rangefinder."
I use the following manual focus lenses on my X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 digital mirrorless bodies for street photography: 50mm f/1.4 eight-element Takumar with M42 to Fuji X adapter 24mm f/2 Nikkor with Nikon F to Fuji X adapter 12mm f/2 Rokinon
Great video, I've pretty much given up on autofocus unless I'm with my toddler and only have one free hand. It's way more satisfying to hit a shot with manual focus. I may have gone a little overboard and picked up the 21mm f4 the 28 and 35 Ultrons and the 40mm nokton. The 21mm and 35 are my favorites so far. I ordered a Pixii camera recently so I'm excited to try these lenses on that camera. I rented an m10 but really didn't like the sensor output I was getting.
Interesting and good advice about adapting manual lens to really any mirrorless camera. I adapt range finder type lens to the Leica CL which is also APS-C. I wonder how the CL compares to X-pro2 or 3 ??
I got into adapted RF lenses on my Fujifilm cameras for two reasons. Firstly, I already had a Minolta CLE with that 40mm lens. The lens deserved to be used so I had to try it out on my X-E3 I had at the time. You're quite correct it is a wonderful lens, but I find it a little too long for my taste much of the time. Secondly, I am a huge fan of the 40-45mm FOV and the only lens at the time which fit the bill for my Fuji cameras was the original 27mm pancake, which I do like on the X-E and X-Tx0 bodies but seems lost on the X-T1,2 etc bodies, and I miss the aperture ring and I like manual focusing. So, I took the wallet destroying decision (for me at least) to get a Voigtlander VM 28mm f2 vintage line lens for use on my X-T1. Fortunately I could justify the expense a little as I could also use it on my CLE and Voigtlander Bessa T cameras. I have to say it was worth the expense. The lens is exquisite in IQ, build and handling. I have no desire to purchase the new 27mm from Voigtlander because of this lens. If it had been available at the time I might have been tempted by their 28mm f2.8 version (for a few less quid) but on the whole and all things considered I made the right choice. I have since acquired 35mm and 50mm f2.5 Color Skopar ( which are delightfully small and compact) and L39 mount 50mm f1.5 Nokton lenses. All of them are a joy to use. The only downside apart from expense is the relatively far minimum focusing distance when compared to dedicated XF mount lenses. This can be overcome with an adaptor with an in-built focusing helicoid but they are quite ugly and a bit heavier. One can argue with some justification that it makes more sense to buy cheap MF Chinese glass, but you will not get the same degree of pleasure in user experience and as long as you look after your lenses, these RF ones should maintain or go up in value over time. Then consider that these lenses can be used on ANY mirrorless system, so are future proof regarding any camera purchases down the line. I have a number of M to FX adaptors and I prefer the Urth ones, as they are the most discreet that I have found to date.
Been really wanting to grab that 21mm f4 for my xt2. People keep complaining about smeared corner online but everything you’ve shown here just solidifies how damn good it is. People trippin
I’ve never had a smeared corner actually - I hardly ever shoot below 5.6 so maybe that’s why? F4 is too shallow for me so I guess that could be what’s saving me. Doesn’t hit diffraction until f16
@@DeeRosa yeah i see hella complaints about smearing at most apertures and purple fringing. I’m not a pixel peeper so I don’t think I’ll really notice or care. dude that VC 21mm lens is GOLD! I used it with my Xpro 1, 2 and then on my Leica M240... Then sold it and I regret it. I shoot with an M10R and I'm thinking about getting a used Xpro3 and that' my first choice for a wide angle lens and then adapt a 35mm summilux for a 50 equivalent. Took some of my best shots with that 21mm.
Another gem of a video D! Great information, good tips!, I never notice how over saturated the images are from the M body till now.. Sheesh, them Samsung colors. hahahaha. I am glad you are enjoying the new lens pickups. Enjoy the journey.
Thanks for the video. I shoot a 90/35/21mm lens kit on my Leica M6 35mm film rangefinder. Using an adapter to mount my Leica glass on my Fuji X-Pro1 or X-Pro2 gives me the equivalent of a 135/50/35mm lens kit. I have no use for this adapted lens kit.
Just got my Xpro-3 and was looking at lens, glad I saw this video. Can you let me know what are those lenses you suggested? I want to get them? I just picked up the mount.
This is the 5th time I've come back to this video to try and determine if I want the 21mm for my X-E3 😅. Did you have any issues with purple fringing on the edges; or was it not as noticeable due to the crop? Thanks in advance!
I would love to know how or more appropriate IF one is capable of focusing with manual lenses on the OVF of the Xpro3. No zone focusing, but exact focus and recompose, on the OPTICAL viewfinder. Many tha ks
I'd love to see your take on the m-rokkor lenses. Willing to bet they won't cover the medium format sensor because they vignette something fierce even on a full frame but their flaws are some of the most charming I've found in a set of lenses
X-Pro Monochrome!!! That would be a street photographers dream.... I have the X-Pro 1 and xe2. I love using my 35mm and 50mm Summicrons and I absolutly LOVE the 21mm color skopar... Zone focus is the way to go. The focus tab on Leica lenses also gives you a good idea of the distance. 4 o'clock (close), 6 o'clock (med) and 8'ocklock being infinity...
Although I don’t like monochrome cameras and haven’t felt the files are actually any different enough to warrant a purchase I do love that it inspires so many to go shoot!
@@DeeRosa Fair enough but since they only see luminance and do not have any other filters on over the sensor, they are sharper and naturally faster iso sensitivity. Also, since your can add color filters, they more closely have a film feel to the camera operation. The X-Pro line with the optical sensor lends itself to that end.
@@maze400 again I never saw the sharpness statement being true from what I’ve seen so I can’t agree with that but as long as it gives you what you perceive as a benefit I’m glad!
My favourite MF lenses for my X-E3 are Voigtlander's 35 and 50mm f2.5 Color Skopars (the latter is a L39 mount). Both tiny, both beautifully built and both give beautiful images. Did I hear right? You can bring up framelines for MF glass on the Xpro3's OVF? If so that would be awesome.
YES! I have those two lenses too, for my X-T10's. A beautiful combination. My other two favourites are the Voigtlander Vintage Line 28mm f2 and LTM 50mm f1.5 Nokton, which pair very nicely on my X-T1
I have 2 X-Pro3 cameras (one standard black and one Dura silver). I have a set of light-weight primes that I use on them. I have some of Fujifilm’s, larger, lenses, and zooms, but I don’t use those on the X-Pro3. I also have the Fujifilm M Mount Adapter and a set of 4 Voightlander M mount primes. I have other cameras that will come and go. Currently, a Nikon D810, and the Fujifilm X-T5. But I will take my X-Pro3 to the grave with me. I like it better than a Leica (pun intended).
This lens on my X-Pro1? Ooof, I might just have to… I’ve not really ever shot with a manual lens, certainly not on a Fujifilm; but you’ve inspired me to give it a go, and tbh I needed a bit of inspiration to get out and do some street stuff because I just haven’t felt like it recently. Great video!! 👍🏼
Thx for the great review! Did you experience any corner smearing with the M Lenses? Its something you read everywhere about M Glass on digital sensors... I wanted to get the Xpro3 to mainly use with M Lenses, but this info made me hesitate. I tested it on a canon R5 and its pretty bad 😵
Yooo Great vid man. I also just copped a brand new X-pro 3 for about the same price and I'm going to check out manual focus. I basically shoot my current lenses like this during the day and only really use autofocus at night. I'm wondering about the focus scale on the crop sensor. Since you're on a smaller sensor does that mean you get more depth of field at wider apertures than on FF?
Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, especially on what people think about f4 glass :D I'm been thinking of buying m mount glass for my X-PRO2 but i'm hesitating because i've read of forums that adapted M lenses will not focus to infinity (which is a must in some situations). Have you experienced something like this? Or is your combo with these Lenses and Adapter optimal?
I’ve never had an issue with focusing to infinity but I don’t really pixel peep and if it’s good enough to print its good enough for me so I couldn’t give you an honestly answer 🤷🏻♂️
I am keen on purchase this voightlander 21mm f4 lens for my X-T5. But I read a lot of reviews said it has purple color shift on left and right side when you attach it to a digital camera (Leica). However, fuji's sensor is smaller than Leica's full frame, did you have any image quality issue with this lens?
I really love your content and I'm a fan of manual focus lenses. I just wished you wouldn't use this stroboscope transition. That really gave me a headache. Except that, very well made!👍
I actually do with the 21mm. After the crop it’s basically the whole OVF in frame. I just make sure my exposure meter is fine and I shoot using zone focus.
Hi Dee, I think I saw you shooting with a 40mm Voigtlander as well in your Instagram? Is that the Nokton Classic 1.4? If so how would that compare to the Minolta 40mm? Do you like them both in different ways? Thanks again. Jeff
Yes the 40mm Nokton reminds me of the 35/1.4 from Fujifilm. Similar rendering and the glow and falloff on portraits is sweet, sweet love. Minolta has just a very nice detail to it and great contrast in color and shadow. I prefer the Minolta now because I prefer to shoot a lot of texture now. But they’re both amazing. I’m selling my Nokton but I still stand by it.
@@DeeRosa This is exactly what happens to mi with the X-Pro3 and the Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 28mm F2.0.Anyway, I steel prefer the Nokton 40mm F1.4
Is the focus distance scale still accurate after adapting it on an APSC lens? I've read on forums that distance markings are abit off especially when focusing on infinity due to the smaller sensor size.
I shoot street when I use the focus scales and the thing to remember is the lens doesn’t change properties just because it’s on a crop sensor. Only field of view changes. Crop NEVER effects aperture or focal length - just what the length looks like. So I know that 21mm at f8 is in “focus” from 2.5m to infinity. It doesn’t matter what body I put it on the lens performs the same.
Hi, i have bought the same adapter which i use with a summicron 35, i noticed some issues. When i use the EVF with that adapted lens sometimes the EVF tend to have some buffer problems, the image stutters. Do you have the same issue? Don’t happens with fuji lenses
There’s a loophole but no. Zone focus sire but not with the OVF. But I mean… the EVF works lol. As someone who’s shot Leica trust me there’s nothing special about OVF vs EVF focusing. Only thing Leica has is a rangefinder patch which is easier in low contrast stituations
Why do you think that the focal length "adjusts the warp" in .jpg? I think that is not correct - how would the camera know distortion characteristics of any adapted lens? Each lens of the same focal lens can have different distortion (as well as none). Apart from the metadata, setting the focal length in camera allows for proper functioning of IBIS, in cameras that have it.
Not quite true on the Fuji M mount; it does have electronic contacts and has a button which allows you to select which lens you are using in the exif, once programmed. And it fits perfectly.
Ah and then right after I mentioned how the Voigtlander didn’t actually have contacts so that’s why it wasn’t a deal breaker to me. Sorry for the confusion bud 🍪
I like the look and appreciate xoir taste for the look of camera and lense, but I don't get that swearing... sorry. You mean you just want to use it at daylighttime and make sharp images most of the time? Cause the best handeling won't enable you to use it at nighttime or get separation (exept you hold the camera right im peoples faces...). If you shoot at nighttime, you should know that you need a tripod with low shutterspeed and every motion will get blurred or you put your ISO to 6400 (i tested it) underexpose by 3 stops and still have to manage 1/60 of a second, which would be the shuttertime to not get any handshake or motionblur. Than youbhave to lighten the photo in post and get a lot of noise or crank up the ISO higher than 6400 whicj looks noisy too. No front, but it's not only about the handeling, the specs do matter in my opinion. Of course with an f4 you cand shoot from morning to evening, but in a lot of scenarios you won't be able to get background seperation. For me a f4 would be much of a compromise...
If you google the term range focus you’ll get articles for zone focusing… it’s a non matter and since I am not using the “rangefinder” patch to focus and it was started before rangefinder cameras were popular I have to ask WHY you guys are so anal about this topic and why you’re okay with being wrong.
@@DeeRosa Probably because you were still in diapers while we were calling “depth of field” or “range of focus” range focusing and 11 zones of zone metering - zone metering - whatever you new Gen Z think about it - right or wrong. 🙂 Any way - enjoy!

I did. The name doesn’t justify the price for me.
Thx! Love your videos. How’s the XPro3 with your glasses?
Very good video, man. You inspired me. 👍🏼
Got me hyped to receive my Urth adapter now. Also going to try out the split prism MF assist rather than peaking !
It’s the Mike Jones for me
Who?
Brown that dripping and woodgrain verse!!🤣😂
@@maze400 sharpness doesnt count, well, it doesnt count THAT much as it is advertise.
I really enjoy shooting manual, got a few cheap manual lenses that I play with. I have the voigtlander 40mm , it looks nice with the xe-4
The good news is I can afford the adapter! The bad news I can only dream of X-T3, don’t even mention Leitz!
You’ll love it!
Do it! I use the Minolta M mount lenses on mine and it’s the best. Such great lenes for the price and the pixiedust sensor make for some great shots.
my goto for street photography was always f11!
Fuji, please make a photo only range finder camera (which looks like x100v) and several small, solid, bad ass looking manual focus lens.
Bro, have you ever tried the Mitakon Speedmaster 35mm 0.95 mk ii ? Curious to get your thoughts on it vs the 40mm rangefinder
M bodies have digital sensors and I didn’t experience it there and I’ve adapted these to an XPro 3 & XE4/XT3 and haven’t had issues.
is there a speed booster to make this camera work with leica glass n make it full frame?
Yooo Great vid man. I also just copped a brand new X-pro 3 for about the same price and I'm going to check out manual focus. I basically shoot my current lenses like this during the day and only really use autofocus at night. I'm wondering about the focus scale on the crop sensor. Since you're on a smaller sensor does that mean you get more depth of field at wider apertures than on FF?
Yep crop factor applies to focal length and aperture. So an 1.4 on apsc is more like an 2.0 on full frame. Light gathering is unaffected tho
Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, especially on what people think about f4 glass :D
I'm been thinking of buying m mount glass for my X-PRO2 but i'm hesitating because i've read of forums that adapted M lenses will not focus to infinity (which is a must in some situations).
@@DeeRosa yeah, that sounds promising! I am also that kind of person that doesn’t pixel peep.
When zone focusing, is depth of field scale when it is converted?
I did this with my xpro1 many moons ago
I am keen on purchase this voightlander 21mm f4 lens for my X-T5. But I read a lot of reviews said it has purple color shift on left and right side when you attach it to a digital camera (Leica). However, fuji's sensor is smaller than Leica's full frame, did you have any image quality issue with this lens?
No problems.
I really love your content and I'm a fan of manual focus lenses. I just wished you wouldn't use this stroboscope transition. That really gave me a headache. Except that, very well made!👍
Nice video. Makes me want to try MF. Do you use the OVF on the XPro3 or the EVF?
@@DeeRosa thanks a lot!! I really love your videos. Awesome.
Wondering, do you personally prefer the look of the images of the Fuji 35 1.4 or this Minolta? Or pretty similar? Thanks.
Way different. 35/1.4 will always have a special place in my heart. But the Minolta gives me a look I prefer now.
Thanks! I’m just now toying with the idea of M mount adapters. I’ll have to look at these options now too! Thanks for the video.
@@DeeRosa This is exactly what happens to mi with the X-Pro3 and the Voigtlander Ultron Vintage Line 28mm F2.0.Anyway, I steel prefer the Nokton 40mm F1.4
40mm F1.2 😅
Haven’t ever had that issue!
Hi mate is it possible to manually focus using the OVF and a Leica lens?
You set the focal length it uses and the camera adjust to a base of properties that is distinct per. But also who the hell cares.
Did your ribbon fail?
Well, if you can afford putting on a Leica lens, it wouldnt brake the budget with a Fuji adaptor!?
Not quite true on the Fuji M mount; it does have electronic contacts and has a button which allows you to select which lens you are using in the exif, once programmed. And it fits perfectly.
Cool I never said it didn’t and I just said mine didn’t have the contacts but thanks for your comment 🍪
@@DeeRosa you said there was no difference so you implied it 🍦
Ah and then right after I mentioned how the Voigtlander didn’t actually have contacts so that’s why it wasn’t a deal breaker to me. Sorry for the confusion bud 🍪
I highly recommend 7artisans 35mm1.2 mark2. My version is insane. Better than my Leica Leitz & Voigtländer
I’ll take a look at it then! But what I’m really looking for is something that’s 23-25mm.
@@DeeRosa I'm also looking for a good manual 23 to 25mm lens. But I want a compact version with high image quality like the xf23mm1.4
@@DeeRosa I would recommend the the pergear 25mm as it has a similar build quality and rangefinder styling to the 35mm 1.2
They do look good but too bad color shift and smearing plague the results.
That’s awesome here’s your cookie 🍪
Been saying for years that FF should have manual focus versions of all their lenses. Smh.
LoL: Wood Grain Um Grippin!
I don’t care.
That skopar looks sexy.
Its not complete until the XPro3 is modded with a real rangefinder and the EVF removed.
If you wanna remove the EVF you could just… not use it? Lol
Range focus ... TBC
@@historyoneonone9690 all of this sounds like jealousy because you’re talentless and not where I am or successful. I genuinely more I’m not gen z and age doesn’t matter. I’m better than you. Get over it.

"zone focusing" is an incorrect term used by idiots. Sorry bub the correct term is range focusing. Please look it up before you reply with some defensive sassy comment. Yeah sure it may work but it's wrong. Talk to Ruben
This is now the second video of mine you’ve watched in full to try to find something to throw a bitch fit about and you’re still wrong.
You can literally type “what is zone focusing” into your little google machine to find out you look like a fool again and are still throwing a big ass hissy fit because I didn’t validate you. How can y’all be so confident after you watched multiple videos to nitpick and are STILL WRONG.
