Guys, thanks so much for your kind words and thoughtful contributions to the discussion. I’m a bit overwhelmed by the number of responses, so please forgive me if I am slow to respond. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
New to your channel, starting to look at Fuji cameras and this was recommended to me by the RUclips gods. Your cadence is that of an audiobook reader, thoroughly engaging, going to work my way through your back catalog
Yes the X-Pro 3 does speak to your heart, your head, and your soul. I nearly sold my Leica CL but wound up keeping it (thankfully) but still went ahead and bought the X-Pro3. It is such a fine camera, makes me want to create, makes me want to get out every day in the winter, snow or rain or sunshine, and find pictures. Very appreciated your review of this, and the “soul” of this camera.
Hey Hugh, I think I speak for many of us out there when I say that it was your review on the X-Pro3 that I've been really looking forward to listening. Yet another great video! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Regards from Greece!😊
The ISO can be set to the front wheel and the shutter to the rest wheel. This method makes the combo-dial rather redundant but makes manual shooting very fast. It's how I shoot with both my x100f and X-H1. Aperture, shutter and then exposure with the ISO.
Yeah that’s how I shoot with the x100f and T3/H1 also, agree it’s a fast and easy process. I have no idea why that’s not available on the pro2, strange and disappointing decision there.
The fastest way to shoot full manual with the XP2 is to do it as you shoot neg film: set shutter and aperture as you want and let auto ISO take care of exposure. Within reason of course, but you can underexpose the XP2 up to 5 stops without penalty, even more with monochrome. There’s plenty of room to play with, all you need to do is make sure not to overexpose key highlights.
@@adrianguggisberg3656 It may be the fastest way with the Xpro2 but the ISO wheel method will be a lot faster and far more accurate than the just 'auto ISO'. No more fiddling with AE lock or turning the exposure compensation dial to 'correct' what the camera believes is the right exposure for the scene and certainly a lot less time correcting exposure in post.
@@DavidWhittley Yup, that's how I used to shoot, too. However, these days autoexposure works brilliantly and shooting digital has become almost as easy and convenient as shooting film. I only set ISO to manual if there is a particular reason. Ymmv, but for the kind of photography an XPro makes sense, auto ISO is the way to go most of the times.
Wow, on a RUclips hyper crowded of reviews about this camera, just complaining about the screen and defining the same: sexy, glamour and beautiful to see, this is the very first real review, as usual on this channel, about street photography. Thanks(YOU TALKED ABOUT THE LUMIX GX9!! Can't believe.)
My X-Pro3 arrives tomorrow from B&H. It will be paired up with my XT-3 for my event/wedding work and I couldn’t be more excited. Great Video as always, had to give it another watch in anticipation, Cheers!

A beautiful presentation, well paced with a superb description of the features and quirks of the camera. You are a photographers, photographer. I could spend a day talking cameras with you in a warm and friendly coffee shop. Keep up the excellent video camera reviews.

Well spoken Sir. Enjoyed it very much. $1900.00 Dollar is still a steal compared to a Leica camera. I have the X PRO 2, and don't get me wrong I love this camera so much, but I have been patiently waiting for the tilting screen, and finally my prayers has been answered. I can shoot below my chest now. Plus an added bonus of the nostalgic film look aesthetic in the back.
Watched your review of the X-Pro3, and yes, you can assign the ISO setting to the front dial, and it’s really convenient. I was a little taken aback by the rear panel screen arrangement, but after about 20 minutes, it didn’t matter. I do like the waist level aspect when you flip down the screen. Reminded me of using an old twin lens reflex camera (the Russian Lubitel). Anyway, I do have the CL, and it has always been my favourite camera, but since picking up this X-Pro3, it is soon becoming my favourite. I still own both, but the X-Pro3 with weather sealing is amazing. I got the Dura (black) version because it was on sale for the same price as the painted black … Smudges yes, but that doesn’t bother me either. It wipes off pretty easily. Anyway, thanks for the review. The X-Pro3 is a photographer’s camera! Lightweight, intuitive, and those simulations are beautiful.
I have never been to New York, though many of my favorite movies are set there, and I suspect your photos do indeed successfully catch part of the heart and feel of the City .....Thanks !
@@3BMEP thanks man, also bought an X100V as my backup a week later, thank you for these videos. They way you think about and ponder through these videos really helped me make my choices.

Is it me but I think the Xpro 3 has made the Xpro 2 a more tempting camera to get. After looking at both I decided on the Xpro 2 due to value/function. You can get the Xpro 2 graphite w/ the 23mm F2 bundle for less than a Xpro 3 body alone. Either way, I think both Cameras are great.
I’m convinced too. I have mine pre-ordered already but it fills me with confidence to know you speak kindly of it having spent some time with it. Thanks for the video as always :)
Thanks Hugh. I don't want to minimize the haptonics that make the Pro desirable and fun to use. As you know there are a few superficial differences in the bodies, i.e., the location of the viewfinder, the availability of EVF which mimics the Leica RF models, etc., etc. We can agree that none of these features will allow one to differentiate the same image captured with both cameras. I have used Leica cameras for many years and can no longer justify the high price for the glass and bodies. IMO there will be little to no discernible differences in images captured with the Leica M digital RF cameras vs. the Fuji XT3 or Pro 3. Other camera manufacturers have been able to approach the quality of Leica M glass at a fraction of the price. I am interested in the Pro model but have difficulty justifying the price difference from the T3. It is likely that most or all of the film simulations currently limited to the Pro will be available by an update on the T3. Once again, a thought provoking “insight” into a camera that, unless you’ve used a Leica or similar (XPro-2!) street photography tool, may be lost on a casual shooter. Hugh...well done! The “whimsy” is the magic that many will miss.
Early this year after watching this review and your review of the cl, many times, I opted for the cl. I’ve loved it. Owning the 18, 23, 35, the latter being perhaps the best lens I’ve ever owned. Love is an understatement. The cl is magic! I wish it were weather sealed. And I don’t mind not having an ovf. That said, I’ve rented the xpro3 twice, because I’d love to have the Fuji aps lens lineup. With both rentals, I sent it back convinced about the cl. It is headed in the right direction, but not there yet. They need a better evf, a better solution to iso, and a more simplistic menu system like the cl. I know your review is abut dated, but I sure do love the re watch. Thanks for keeping us excited about our hobby!
Absolutely Hugh , are the best at presenting and articulating the “nuances” of wha goes into producing a great photographic instrument and shooting experience. Thank You. Tony De
3:45 telling someone disappointed by the xpro3 that the camera isn't for them or that the x-t3 exists doesn't work. What if they are upgrading from the xpro1 or 2? What if they, like me, wanted to switch to fuji for the ovf with mini display alone, only to find the ovf worsened and the screen gimped?
Leica CL has superior build and EVF? It has Aluminum top and bottom plate vs X-pro3 Titanium + Weather sealing, CL only has 2.36 M-dot EVF while X-pro3 has 3.69M-dot..also has OVF. Feeling in the hand and control are subjective.
Kusanagi To make the point differently: objectively, the eye relief and magnification are significantly better on the CL. Subjectively, the increase in resolution is insufficient to offset these advantages: the EVF of the CL is easier for me to use for focusing and composition.
Thank for this thoughtful review. What a relief! Two things, (I have the X-Pro3 with me now) first is the ISO can be assigned to the function wheel. I have mine assigned to the front wheel. Second, I know the ISO dial placement isn't the best design, but I have found that I can use my thumb and index finger and left and turn the ISO function while keeping the camera to my eye to change the setting. Thanks again, Cheers.
What an awesome analysis of this little gem. Your videos always make me crack a smile. I wish I could take one of your photography courses. Cheers from Asia!
Couldn't wait , it looks fantastic and your knowledge is second to non, and you are a great human to boot and I bet Claudia keeps you right there in place 😜
Good job Fuji! I am interested in how enjoyable is using the X-Pro3 with some adapted MF lenses. I love using some Voigtlander M lenses with the A7iii but X-Pro1.
I am strangely proud that I didn't skip to the photo😋 For someone trying to cope with a city's loneliness though, the one with the two strangers sitting with their backs turned to eachother was a killer shot... As far as the camera is concerned, I already drull over it (that won't help with the smudge thing...) but positive reviews from individuals with their feet on the ground and their minds taking off, like you, are bringing me dangerously close to divorce... Claudia, you may have saved your man, but who the hell is going to save me from my woman???
How close can you get to these pics by shooting raw on a Sony camera and just using presets that mimic the fujifilm ones. What would I be missing there besides the camera itself? I understand the colors of sony and fujifilm are different but after editing could you get close enough that it doesn't justify buying an xpro3 if you already have another high end mirrorless camera
If I were getting an APS "rangefinder" right now, heart would say Leica CL and head would say X-E3. The X-Pro3 is an intriguing camera, but at that price it's dangerously close to the Leica, which is just that much more attractive.
How do you like this camera for shooting portraits? I’m I portrait and headshot photographer , shooting with the XT3 primarily but I recently got an x100 V and I’m loving the rangefinder feeling so much that I’m thinking of trading my XT3 for the X pro but wondering if it will serve me as a portrait photographer who occasionally does family sessions. I also occasionally do portraits in the studio as well.
Anyone else notice that the high refresh rate on the EVF only works if you have the shutter button down? I have BOOST on. That doesn't happen on either my H1 or T2. Did I just get a bad one? If not, KEEP YOUR PRO2.
what is special with the xpro 3 that you can't get with xt3 for example? xpro3 is more expensive too, but I don't understand why, what are the differences
Hi! Could you please post a photo or describre how the the dura coating looks like after using the camera. Is it easy to clean all the fingertaps, .... with a microfiber cloth? Best Regards from Austria,.Oliver
The only reason I want to own the Xpro3 is because of the waist level shooting. I own the Xpro1 (which I love to bits) and the Sony A7iii (also love for different work). My Xpro1 is perfect for streets, but just wish it had the ease of the waist level shooting of the Xpro3. Great video thank you.
I am very interested in the xpro3 especially the fact that we should not retouch the photos with the emulate system , but it's true that it is expensive, what model do you recommend for street photography that gives this look xpro3 on photos (colors and little vintage look but still modern). If I must choose 1 Camera and only one lens for street photography?
Well, this video helped me a lot to understand the difference between the xpro3 and the other cameras i'm interrested in. Thank you very much, great job :)
9:41 This right here convinces me of the confused nature of the camera. I remember when this line was marketed to pros on the selling point of the ovf. Now we see floaty, insubstantial marketing aimed at those who want leicas or are nostalgic for film. But the ovf is worse, and the top version of the camera (the dura black looks so nice when clean) was never used by a Fuji engineer who has to hold it for more than an hour. I get the sense that a formerly practical camera line is being repurposed as an unaccountable luxury product, and we'll see more painful omissions on the xpro4 unless the pro3 is rightfully punished in the marketplace.
I always enjoy your videos! I hope I’m not losing you to Fuji. That “last picture” monologue (starting at 5:59 ) almost sounded like a description of my Panasonic G9 (which is getting a bunch of cool firmware upgrades in a couple of weeks). I’ve seen the Fuji colors. They’re very nice! But my G9 rivals them and has so much to offer for the price that I’m not persuaded to look further.
Great photos in NY but I particularly enjoyed the first shot. Absolutely ‘cracking’ as we say in the UK. Have an XT2 &3 but would love to have this camer as in the past I found the XPro 2 a camera I always picked up first before my XT’s
Does anyone know if there is a format button shortcut for the Xpro3? With the Xpro2 (Press the Delete button and hold it down for three seconds. Then, while still pressing the Delete button, click in the rear command dial)?
9:58 I agree on the iso dial, and would argue that fuji's dial scheme needs a redesign. The push-pull dial could click upward like a focus clutch, making it easier to use. Fuji could bite the bullet and add a separate iso dial. Having to use two dials to set exact shutter speed is bad design, either make the writing on the shutter dial smaller, put a screen in it, or split the shutter range, low numbers in regular position, and high numbers in a window. Keeping it the same for years, and letting us use the command dials, is not really a solution.
I have in my collection, an XT-2, it is the only camera that I continue to return to... That camera is the street photography go to..! I am getting the xpro-2 very soon.
As I learn more and more about Fuji I see how it is an alternative to Leica. Even if I could afford the CL, the lenses alone would leave anyone broke lol. Fuji has definitely got it going on with their offerings with nothing but excellent quality.
It's not even a debate, what is the best street photography camera...well, it could be a debate, is the XPro3 better than the X100V? One of those is the best above all others.
7:24 YES. This is the point of street photography for me. You may find the waist-level techinque to be the stealthiest, but letting people use the lcd in the normal position should be integral part of a street camera.
I'm interested in this for three reasons: 1. I can't afford a Leica without selling my house. 2. FujiFilm is renowned for very good glass. 3. Rangefinders are more of a challenge and can take clearer images.
Hmm ...CL vs XPRO3 - I own both the CL and XPRO2, (also the X-H1 which I'm shooting together with the CL on a Thailand trip right now). Superior build - debatable but I don't think so. Suprior control- definitely not (fe: I've just tried full manual mode on the CL again and the camera just doesn't show me the actual exposure before shot etc etc.). Less is not more. Superior feel in hands - I need to use on both cameras a thumb up grip, so maybe equal. Superior lenses - I agree, but so much more expensive... What you can say pro CL the camera is defenatly more compact.
Thanks you for this review. This is probably a strange question but hey ho. I have astigmatism in my right eye, I can see quite well out of it regardless but look through any camera view finder with my left eye. Does his negate the ergonomics of range finder cameras? I'v never used one but find my self intrigued by them, especially the X-pro3, but clearly the viewfinder is designed for the the right eye?
I’m left eye dominant and have been using Xpro and x100 cameras since the beginning and have had no problems at all. I love them in fact. Of course best to try one for yourself. Good luck
From someone returning to photography after two decades, I made my choice last week. Fujifilm got my business but my purchase was an X-T3. Whimsy be damned, in need to spend the $500 difference on glass (though I still need an extra few hundred for the 16 mm 1.4).
The X-T3 + 16 1.4 will make you love photography again... manual focus with focus peaking or prism assist, clutch focus ring, sharp, beautiful DOF falloff wide open. :::chef's kiss:::

The fastest way to shoot full manual with the XP2 is to do it as you shoot neg film: set shutter and aperture as you want and let auto ISO take care of exposure. Within reason of course, but you can underexpose the XP2 up to 5 stops without penalty, even more with monochrome.
Glad to be of service. 😊🖖🏻
Can you explain your grading process for this beautiful black and white footage?
Thanks for giving me a look at something other than my usual brand. I enjoyed it!
Philip Shucet Philip! 🥰
Superb as always!

Absolutely Hugh , are the best at presenting and articulating the “nuances” of wha goes into producing a great photographic instrument and shooting experience. Thank You.

Kusanagi specs are rarely the whole story.
@@3BMEP Of course, that's why I get "the feeling in the hand and controls" part, but build and EVF are features that can be compared objectively.
Matt Brandon thanks for such a thoughtful contribution!
What an awesome analysis of this little gem. Your videos always make me crack a smile. I wish I could take one of your photography courses. Cheers from Asia!
You’re still a part of our online community here - thank you!
Couldn't wait , it looks fantastic and your knowledge is second to non, and you are a great human to boot and I bet Claudia keeps you right there in place 😜
Harry burnett She certainly does!
Great one, as always... How would you compare the xpro 3 to Leica Q in terms of the image quality and overall pleasure of use?
XPro 3 wins for flexibility and value, Q2 wins for experience and ultimate IQ. If you’re leaning toward Q, I’d advise stretching to the Q2.
I feel that the XT30 is probably a better choice for value if your looking to save money for glass.
Good job Fuji! I am interested in how enjoyable is using the X-Pro3 with some adapted MF lenses. I love using some Voigtlander M lenses with the A7iii but X-Pro1.
I am strangely proud that I didn't skip to the photo😋
For someone trying to cope with a city's loneliness though, the one with the two strangers sitting with their backs turned to eachother was a killer shot...
77folgore 😉
77folgore I love that shot, too.
So impressed with you I bought a premium 3BME shirt outright. The XPro3 can wait; shirt first.
Love it!! Thanks for all you do!
If I were getting an APS "rangefinder" right now, heart would say Leica CL and head would say X-E3. The X-Pro3 is an intriguing camera, but at that price it's dangerously close to the Leica, which is just that much more attractive.
I understand. 😎
such an inspirational video vith great samples of xpro3 camera pictures! thanks for sharing!
As usual a fantastic review printed sooo well
What lens do you recommend for the xpro 3?
Although we never met, although we may never meet, your soul found the way to mine through your photos....!
Thanks ... I was eagerly waiting for your review.
Hi!
Could you please post a photo or describre how the the dura coating looks like after using the camera. Is it easy to clean all the fingertaps, .... with a microfiber cloth?
Best Regards from Austria,.Oliver
Oliver Reichl Once I have it back in hand.
Did u see the new olympus em5 mark 3? For a street photo guy that could replace your G9. They did a bang up job.
the keto life Trying to get one in-house.
Is the front thumbwheel clickable same as my XT2 where i can quickly adjust both the shutter speed and iso, great thoughtful vid.
The lift-up-and-turn ISO dial is exactly the same as the one I had on the 35mm camera I grew up using.
Waist level shooting on that camera IS a joy!
I am very interested in the xpro3 especially the fact that we should not retouch the photos with the emulate system , but it's true that it is expensive, what model do you recommend for street photography that gives this look xpro3 on photos (colors and little vintage look but still modern). If I must choose 1 Camera and only one lens for street photography?
my onliest, personally, argument to not buying the x-pro3 now is my x-pro1. it's a love affair.
Magnificent Demo images. Great review, as usual!
Rick Mentore 🙏🏻🥰
Hugh great review as always. Fujifilm just simply works well and their straight out of camera jpegs simply brilliant.
Are these not the same pictures that you shared as the xe4 ?
We like it too! Thanks for the kinds words - and thanks for taking the time to share!
Sir Hugh, do fingerprints clean easily though? Or do they stay stubborn as you try to clean them?
Love your reviews. Thank you!
Thank you, Mike!
Can someone explain to me the advantage of titanium in the construction? No explicit explanation from fuji.
I have in my collection, an XT-2, it is the only camera that I continue to return to... That camera is the street photography go to..! I am getting the xpro-2 very soon.
Which color are you getting?
As I learn more and more about Fuji I see how it is an alternative to Leica. Even if I could afford the CL, the lenses alone would leave anyone broke lol. Fuji has definitely got it going on with their offerings with nothing but excellent quality.
It's not even a debate, what is the best street photography camera...well, it could be a debate, is the XPro3 better than the X100V? One of those is the best above all others.
7:24 YES. This is the point of street photography for me. You may find the waist-level techinque to be the stealthiest, but letting people use the lcd in the normal position should be integral part of a street camera.
I'm interested in this for three reasons:
1. I can't afford a Leica without selling my house.
2. FujiFilm is renowned for very good glass.
3. Rangefinders are more of a challenge and can take clearer images.
2:38 Lack of IBIS sent all my fuji gear to eBay and an Olympus into my hand. So much better for a fraction of the price.
I really enjoy your delivery style.
So glad you do! Thanks for your encouragement!
Good luck
@@JWMO13 Thanks for the input. Your right indeed the only way to know it to try one :)
I may add as well, i have never used it in auto... Ever.. I'm going to get my first xf lens very soon as well...! Exciting times..
Loved the photos, appreciated the advice.
🙏🏻😊
Great to hear your thoughts!
Why does he look and talk like Jeff Goldblum
If you're gonna look like Goldblum why not talk like him also?
Hmmmmm yes hmmmmm fascinating
So, if money is not an object, should it be Leica or Fujifilm?
You KNOW it’s about individual use cases, preferences and taste! 🖖🏻
Really really REALLY like you and your channel. Thank you.
🙏🏻
Informative & entertaining as ever 👍
Great speak, thx for it! Is there and Problem using a tripod when u want to flip down the screen? Thx
So, if you were getting one would you get the regular black or the smudge coat?
Christopher Coppola Regular black
