I really like the fact that Fuji has the balls to bring out a camera that’s not like most other cameras. It‘s definitely not meant for everyone, and it has to be different from the X-T3 - and it is. If you don‘t like - no problem, there are tons of other cameras out there - the XPro3 is just not meant for you. Like Chris pointed out, just go with the X-T3. But if you like the different approach, hey, this is a brilliant camera. I‘m a Leica shooter, and I think it’s quite good that at least one other brand has the guts to produce a special camera that is not meant to please everyone.

This camera is a revival of those old film cameras carrying a slot at the back of the body where you could stick a cut out of the film negative cardboard box to remind the user what film had been loaded inside the camera. Its a camera that bring back the joy of framing a picture to be shot almost exclusively through the viewfinder, a joy the young mobile phone generations will now be happily indulged into.Congrats, Fujifilm!

"Titanium trinket" or not, I love mine. If I spent a lot of time on tripods or needed 4 more function buttons, I'd have gotten the X-T3. That is a more practical camera, but the X-Pro3's left-side hybrid viewfinder is gorgeous and simply improves my shooting experience. It's placed correctly to allow my big "gaijin" nose to stay out of the way. It has an myriad of easily switchable and tunable options to allow me to setup what I'm seeing for the lens and scenario I'm shooting. And its' hidden LCD amuses me. It is a constant reminder that there're passionate designers in Japan who are ready willing and able to fight and win arguments with their pointy-haired bosses to make products for me that they believe in. This whole video is a testimony to Fujifilm’s video colours. This is you guys’ best looking video to date. I have the GH5 and shoot with it every day, like you, but I really don’t like the out of camera colours. A lot of work washing away that Pana cast. This here is just pure gorgeous. Whenever Fujifilm is dropping their first X camera with no time limit, I’m probably there first in line.. And by the way, I can see this flip out screen being killer and stealthy for waist level street photography. Not sure why you didn’t emphasise that in the video.
After watching several popular youtubers on their initial take for x-pro3, I have to say that Chris and Jordan give the most information and their opinions (which is good) out of it. Really appreciate your observations and thoughts! Keep up the good work! The color of the video from x-pro3 looks fabulous! Still images look great too (of course)!
I find that flip down screen works great for "head down" shots - like an old twin lens reflex - folks don't know you're looking at them so great for street shots! Love it! It's the way flip screens should be!
First, the OVF is really like an old rf film camera . From experience : it is nice to see outside the frame to compose or anticipate something coming into but with a tele the area becomes just too small. I must point out that we currently have a much wider choice of focals and a lot more cropping possibilities than in the old 35 film days but if you shoot mostly a 23 and/or maybe a 35 , you must try this. Second, the viefinder being on the left, if you are a left eye shooter, your nose does not interfeer with the screen and you have room to reach the joystick. This is clearly a specialty and retro approach that could be a dream come true to some and while not for me , i salute this as a rare tool providing a different experience . This would have been a risky move for Fuji if they did not also have the XT-3 but they do.
This is the first time I've watched a review that I regretted buying my X-T3. I wish I had gotten an X-Pro3 now. Purely because of how I shoot. I rarely use the LCD on my camera except to change settings at home and I have never shot video and I don't really anticipate that changing. I like the minimalism of the X-Pro 3 and how it attempts to force you out of menus and information overload and puts on the emphasis on taking pictures. I also really like the way it looks. I think the OVF is probably a novelty, but I can also see how having that option could be creatively motivating for some people.
Well, thank you for bringing up this issue. So, what did we gain by Fuji removing the duel magnification that made more lenses useable? Hum. Crickets. They degraded the OVF from the X-Pro2. Okay, how many people actually use the OVF? Not many since I haven't heard many complaints about this move backward we've actually told is somehow better. i have a Pro3 and lobe it but that doesn't mean I'll overlook the degrading of the OVF. This new one is terrible. I know. I had a Pro2. Did they do this to reduce production cost? Maybe reduce processor time? Maybe both. It also does not return the framing lines when one takes the fingure off the shutter release. LIKE ALL PRIOR OVF CAMERAS LIKE ALL THE X1OO'S AND Pro1-2's. What's up with that? Let's talk and while we're at it, let's do it honestly. The "new" OVF" is a degraded bomb. If I'm missing something please let me know.
Distance scale / focus distance on the sub monitor would be absolutely perfect. So useful to look down and know distance without looking through the viewfinder.
Loved the review guys, but I'm still buying the premium ovf / evf for some street photography experience. Sometimes you need a break from an A7Riv with a 24mm GM.
5:48 Yep, this is the crucial point. I was hoping to switch to Fuji for this camera, but they just can't stop with the gimmicks. The pull-to-lift iso dial made sense on film cameras, not here. And now, gimping the screen (this hits video shooters, people who use the screen to maintain eye contact with models, and those who find a screen quicker for reaction shots than raising for the ovf) screw a bunch of people for no good reason. Remember, the x-pro user base is an uneasy alliance between working pros, street shooters, fashion photographers, film nostalgia types, minimalists, and actual hipsters. This decision is for the last three at the expense of the others.
The OVF makes decent sense on the fixed X100 series, though I honestly didn't use it that much on the X100F when I had it. I'll give props to Fujifilm for trying unique things.
Let's think about the branding behind this camera: "A hidden LCD screen will force me to be a better photographer". Sure, having a hidden LCD screen might be a fun novelty for a few weeks, but I predict that pulling down the viewfinder constantly (because you're going to want to use it eventually LOL) is going to get old and very annoying after the novelty wears off. Plus, the ISO dial on the X-Pro series is a PITA. I have owned many Fuji camera bodies and, by far, the X-T3 is my favorite. All the buttons and dials are in the right place and are easy to change on the fly. I also currently own a X-Pro2, which is a fine camera. I would never in a million years, upgrade to the X-Pro3 because of it's ridiculous LCD screen. If I wanted that "film" experience I can simply cover up the LCD screen on my X-Pro2. I'll say this: if you are constantly chimping and look with glee to a camera that will somehow force you to not chimp -- in the hopes that you'll become a better photographer, then you might want to think about that a little bit... a hidden LCD screen is not going to make you a better photographer. Learning the basics of photography (ISO, aperture, shutter speed) and the science behind color and composition, on the other hand, absolutely WILL make you a better photographer.
Hey, what gives, I gave Fuji reps my opinions and they ignored them. :) As an X-Pro2 owner, I won't be upgrading. In fact, after 3 years of trying to like the 2, I'm selling it. For me, Fuji's concentration on retro styling rather than function is a pain. It looks like Fujifilm has retained most of what bothers me about the 2 and doubled down on the retro. Though I occasionally pull out one of my old film cameras and shoot a roll of B&W Delta or colour Velvia -- I've been in the photography biz for 40-years -- I don't miss film and I don't miss fiddling with knobs to, say, change ISO. I agree with everything you said about the hybrid viewfinder.
(At present) I'm prepared to pay more for Fuji bodies (and lenses) that are Made in Japan. I believe the build quality there is superior to elsewhere. The X-Pro3's 'rival', the XT-3, is made in China, which may help to explain 'the same specs at cheaper cost' argument (plus better video performance), as well as issues about build quality I've been hearing.
I like the direction they're going with the xpro line. To piggy back off your comment about it being a hard sell because "what doesn't the XT3 have that this does"... Fuji needs to do more to differentiate between the xt and the xpro series. The screen could certainly get obnoxious if you wanted to use it, but I do think this is a good first step when we think about the need to create unique cameras. For 1,800 USD new (regular matte black finish), I'd think it's worth picking up
Love your videos. Please keep them coming. Yours are the first preview videos I watched for the E-M5 iii and X-pro3, before watching those from ANY other channel!
This video looks beautiful and the photos that Chris took are some of the best he’s ever shared during a review. If you just listened to the audio of this you’d think it was a negative review, but the output is stunning!
joel8x - Agree on the images, but autumn light in this area is lovely, and Chris is one of the rare reviewers who can always find interesting shots, likewise Jordan with the video compositions and editing.
regarding that intro - YOU LOOKED MAHVELOUS !!! style points galore ! :) Seriously - good real impressions feedback - x-t3 / x-pro3 comparisons. I'm not really video savvy, but the simple feedback from the videographer really cut to the chase and hit the high points. I thought that color grading/look was really exceptional, and just as pure image it sure beats the crap out of some of the yuck-o "creative" color work showing up today. THANKS for keeping images and content real guys. Much appreciated.
I’ve been really lusting after the Leica M series cameras. I decided to look at Leica m alternatives and this was the first to pop up. I’m really glad that I came across this camera. Seems to have everything that I want in a rangefinder style digital and doesn’t have the ridiculous Leica prices. I love Leica and I understand the pricing, but it’s still expensive as hell. This Fuji seems the best of all worlds. I’m a film shooter who saw the dawn of the digital camera age. Maybe it’s just old habits but I shoot digital cameras like film. It just doesn’t fully translate. This camera seems to get back to it and is a digital camera made for those who shoot film. I absolutely love that “film” type simulation on the back, that’s a great throwback to the old film cameras that actually had that holder for the film box tab
I'm still shooting on my XT-20 and have been looking to upgrade. I really like the way the X-Pro line looks, but I can't bring myself to go with this one. XT-3 it is!
I am going to use the optical viewfinder for the first half of the video (1:52) The first shot after the promise (2:02 ) using the electronic viewfinder
The little screen on the back of the big screen is taken from film cameras. Film cameras all had a little square on the back of the camera so you could slip the tab on the box of film into it so you knew what film you had in your camera.
Maybe a stupid question. I'm left eye dominant and close my right eye when I shoot. I tried to break this habit for years but I can't make it take. Will I have problems using a range finder style?
The front command dial from what I know is now non-clickable. That said are you able to select ISO with it (or with the rear command dial) if you don't wanna use the twisting ISO dial on the top plate?
I was super excited for the xpro3.. the hidden lcd and lack of d-pad has made it un-usable for pro work.. although for street photography its amazing! sad to hear about the mucky effect of that finish! im not loving that mini display at all tho! great vid guys.. very entertaining as always! :-)
15:37 I almost agree with the second interpretation, but I found the ovf to be remarkable after just a minute with the x-pro2. On all the other points, yes. This camera line is slowly being turned into a talisman for a narrow group (will they even generate enough sales?). However, this group would be better served by an old Leica for less money. It's a shame. If this camera had IBIS, the two-stage ovf, a d-pad, a proper tilt screen of some kind, and the x-t3 video capabilities, I'd sell my other camera gear and buy this on day one for full price.
I am not looking at a new camera but the production quality of these reviews are brilliant and Chris and Jordan are so personable, makes it entertaining.
There is video on the Facebook X-Pro User site clearly demonstrating DPReview is inaccurate in reporting the 23mm frame lines disappear at infinity. You guys should correct that with a graphic on the video.
I think for people wanting a more discreet look, the camera is beautiful. Can you swipe though different custom settings or film looks with the back panel?
ok i gotta say this, the photos that came out from that camera with the film simulation is just beautiful the color is very superia...and the video quality is amazing...nothing beats that Fuji color
I've shot Fuji for a while now. I'm well invested into the system. This camera makes absolutely no sense. It's a tool with FAR too many compromises. Just get an X-T3 or X-H1 at that point. Or if you really want that analog experience with all of the compromises, go save a ton of money and get an X-Pro2 at its inevitable price cut.
I just got an X-Pro3. I've had a couple X100's and a Pro2. I may be one of the ten people that actually use the OVF so my request is statically HUGE. On all the other hybrid viewfinders I've used from Fuji, in the OVF mode the parallax frame lines move to compensate when the shutter is 1/2 pressed and return to the neutral infinity position as soon as the shutter button is released. On the Pro3 I have, The parallax correction moves the framing box but DOES NOT RETURN TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. This is VERY annoying when recomposing the next image at infinity after many years of muscle memory stored with the other Fuji Hybrids. If one close focuses and the frame moves to the lower right it remains there even when the camera is turned off and on again. And besides, it just ain't natural, Mate. It violates well known cosmic laws regarding such matters. I called Fuji support and they appeared clueless but only said they'd pass it along. Since you now represent DPR I was hoping you might have some influence in such matters. Would like to hear what you think. So would the other nine people that use the OVF.
The issue when you launch X100V, Xpro3 and XT4 closely, is that one is likely to suffer by comparaison. And it's the case with this Xpro3, not as charming as the X100V and not as brilliant as the XT4 (and more expensive though...).
Hi Mr Chris, I am Goh from Malaysia. I am actually a newbie in photography. So currently I plan to buy a Fujifilm camera for myself. But I not sure whether I want to choose X-Pro3 or X-T3. May I know any difference of the photo quality between X-Pro3 and X-T3? I look in their specification, it seems like only slightly difference. So I hope you can give me some suggestions, whether which model is worth to purchase. Thank you.
X-Pro3. Anyone one else notice that that 100 frames per second on the EVF only works with the shutter button down? This does not happen on my H1 and T2. And I do have BOOST on.
Thoroughly enjoyable review. I had no interest in buying this nor do still but no matter what your talking about Chris you always make it so easy and enjoyable to listen to. Jordan, you did such a great job filming this when you could barely even access the LCD. So good!
Thank you thank you thank you Fuji... for curing me of my G.A.S because this thing is terrible. As an X-Pro 2 shooter I really wanted to want this camera. I’ve gotten (sort of) used to it’s quirks, and was looking forward to some much needed improvements. But the X-Pro-3 takes quirky to a whole other level and other than the EVF (and expected sensor/processor update) there is nothing here I need or want. Most X-Pro shooters I know feel the same way, and since this isn’t entry level... who is this for?
Thanks for the detailed and helpful video. I purchase the XT3 which I will admit is a very capable camera and more reasonably priced than the Xpro 3. I wanted a flip screen for predominantly waist level street shots. Nontheless, I have had a tough time with the XT3 flip screen. It is not easy to flip out quickly and is essentially a 2 stage pull out for waist level landscape views and is also obstructed by the central eye piece. I was initially a little dubious about the novel screen on the X Pro 3, but honestly it seems so much easier to pull out for street shots and the build quality seems excellent. The screen mechanism on the XT3 seems to have come from an inferior camera compared to the rest of its build. I think it will be the X pro 3 for me ...and in black!
I agree with you 💯 What’s the point of releasing X-Pro3 when X-T3 is a very capable camera 📷 Aside from the looks, the optical viewfinder and improved dynamic range, it doesn’t seem to offer much else. I’m sure a lot of viewers will say this, but I wish they built a camera of this size with an “in-body image stabilization” instead. It is a beautiful camera, I just can’t seem to find enough reasons to pay a premium $ for it.
Thanks so much for showing the problems Dura has with finger prints, because of your review I pre ordered the regular black like my xpro2. Seeing people now who have the Dura black and seeing same problem would have really bothered me if I got it. Thanks Again!!

I've tried to use the OVF on my F, but I don't understand the point. It makes things more difficult than it needs to be.
@@klaushuxley3342 Yeah, pretty much.
Get the M10-D so you can forget about the temptation to pull the LCD out for playback XD
What a nice looking camera but I agree with Chris about the ovf.
By the way does any one know what lens hood that is?
Loved it. And the intro... Thank you!
The colors, the look, the feel of the Fujifilm image...! Oohhh... Please keep shooting videoes with a Fujifilm.
best camera review video introduction ever.
I would immensely love to get that custom focus function on my X-H1 and X-T2.
They basically have put a GameBoy color screen on the back of the camera
Yes, a very advanced screen technology called LCD.
@@qu3becker No, it's actually EInk
Forget about customizations, all you need is some controls to adjust the aperture, shutter speed and maybe ISO if you insist. That's it.
9:35 thoughts on the removal of the d-pad? I don't see the reason for it. Maybe if they made the other buttons bigger.
Yeah, there's really few function buttons now considering the touch-swipe function buttons aren't very accessible either with the flip down screen.
Excellent review. Thank you. As an X-Pro2 enthusiast I think I will stick with what I have and resist the temptation to "upgrade".
I think that the optica viewfinder is only usable and enjoyable when you are using the 23mm f2.0, like the x100f.
I'm still shooting on my XT-20 and have been looking to upgrade. I really like the way the X-Pro line looks, but I can't bring myself to go with this one. XT-3 it is!
I am going to use the optical viewfinder for the first half of the video (1:52)
The first shot after the promise (2:02 ) using the electronic viewfinder
One feature that i waiting for you guys to talk about is the hdr function in the x-pro-3
Still the best camera review intro out there
2:00 already used EVF on the first shot
At 1:23, the guy with the two black plastic plastic garbage bags - cinematic genius!
The little screen on the back of the big screen is taken from film cameras. Film cameras all had a little square on the back of the camera so you could slip the tab on the box of film into it so you knew what film you had in your camera.
best and most meaningful review of this camera ive come across. thank you
Maybe a stupid question.
Damn! Talisman! I like your assessment. Well said!
Best intro on RUclips!
Thank you for suggesting the focus limiter. Can you now suggest a renewed 27mm 2.8 with manual aperture ring?
The focus limiter feature was on the Olympus EM1 MK ll which came out in 2016 so not sure how much credit goes to the boys for this.
ok i gotta say this, the photos that came out from that camera with the film simulation is just beautiful the color is very superia...and the video quality is amazing...nothing beats that Fuji color
The colour profile in this video is sublime.
This...this is cinematic, informative, and, amazing!
I just got my x pro3, love it so much! For me, I cannot find another reason to use my xt4 anymore.
My latest smartphone has just replaced my Camera this year! So my camera is always with me now!
2:25 absolutely love the photo on the left
I've shot Fuji for a while now. I'm well invested into the system. This camera makes absolutely no sense. It's a tool with FAR too many compromises. Just get an X-T3 or X-H1 at that point. Or if you really want that analog experience with all of the compromises, go save a ton of money and get an X-Pro2 at its inevitable price cut.
Well put it's a Frankenstein of a camera and not all the pieces fit together.
Most X-Pro shooters I know feel the same way, and since this isn’t entry level... who is this for?
those who have the new finishes, after a few years with production models, does it gunk up like he said?
The intro deserves an award. Absolute genius. ❗✌👉🆒
If i want to continue shooting i will, why fuji decided that for me? Weird and lack of perception. Would they update xt3?
Jordan, are you experimenting with quicker cuts? Or dare I say it jump cuts on some parts here? Or just part of using the Fuji for video?
Question Chris: which Handstrap are you using in this video? Thx
Love the look of Eterna video
I have to ask..witch is your goto camera, when you go out and shoot for fun?
I guess you'd have to really want the rangefinder style. Personally, I'm waiting for the X100(Insert whatever letter here)
Yeah - X100S second, X100T third, X100F fourth, then where do you go??
is the monochromatic colour effect feature available on the fuji tx4? or is it exclusive to the xpro3?
Strong dilemma... Not sure if I should get an X100V+XPro3 or X100V+XT3 (first world problems). Gotta say, that durablack XPro3 looks so damn sexy...
Nice street photo opportunity at 5:37 with the green bicycle and the green fire hydrant. Nevermind, we are busy with gear and tech specs 🤣
I agree with you 💯
What’s the point of releasing X-Pro3 when X-T3 is a very capable camera 📷
Aside from the looks, the optical viewfinder and improved dynamic range, it doesn’t seem to offer much else.
How would you compare lens sharpness for this camera with the x100v?
