Absolutely. Not only is everything sharp, I learned the jumping cholla lesson early thanks to my dog who demonstrated how they work for me. It’s chaos out here lol. It feels like there is way more stuff that wants to kill you out here than there was in the NE.
Pick-ups are, for me, similar to Adventure Bikes. They're not motocross nor Goldwings, but they will get you anywhere in comfort. Great vid with realist expectation and real life feedback!
Great video! To me, you buy a truck to do truck stuff. If it gets scratched, it will buff out. I off road my truck, get AZ Pinstripes and have it buffed out once a year. Truck is 20 years old and with two scratch exceptions, it looks good. Truck vs side by side is a fantastic debate. For example, as a hunting rig with a couple guys and a dog, a truck is probably the better choice. More space for gear. But if it’s you and one other person, the General is a fantastic option because you need less space and can cover more ground quicker. Keep up the off roading content.
I have a 2023 AT4, it was the exact same price as you paid, I have no intention of off roading it for fun, but the reason I got that model which is very similar to what you built is, standard pickups are no longer capable of going off road in any sense. I had a 2017 z71, and with the front air dam it has the same clearance as my wife's equinox. Now my stock 69 k10 completely different story. Modern day standard pickups are an SUV with a bed, they have terrible clearances. So to your point, just taking them on trail for work or hunting you can damage a lot of stuff. What I am saying is, what you did and what modern normal off-road trucks, AT4/Tremor/Rebel, are really the equivalent of 70/80/90/2000s standard 4x4 pickups in off-road ability.
The hunting reference & then the petting zoo image had me dying! Wicked truck for sure! Lived in Gilbert years ago, bull dog canyon & butchers Jones were always a great time. Keep up the good work & content!
I bought a GEN three raptor we live in the Arizona desert. We take it out. It has PPF on the paint. Cannot imagine having a truck like this and not taking it out in the desert. Just get a sports car.
I got 2021 f150 3.5EB with 2in level and it handled great out in the trail area N of Mesa. First time going off roading. Definably going to do a suspension lift and go with the Eibachs most likely but I was honestly surprised with thr performance.
Just picked up a 2023 F-150 down here in Tucson. Did the 2-in leveling yesterday, I think I'm going to add the heavy duty cam alignment bolts to a lower control arms, want to pain the stock is control arm bolts are! Are you out at the place near Usury? Will be camping out up at Lost Dutchman or McDowell Mountain this December with our dirt bikes.
Love to watch it, this reassures my decision. I bought a 2022 ram limited 2wd (limited differential) for $70k because i knew id never want to feel anxious trying to off road in it although i still want all the practicality of a truck other than off road.. so instead i also bought a lifted 2001 4x4 4runner (center locker) for $10k that i can use for daily work AND use as a toy to off road and beat no worries.. my ram is more for road trips, grocery getter, towing, hauling, camping, weekend presentable vehicle plus with air suspension i cal lower it to load up my harley🤘🇺🇸🇲🇽
So after all your initial problems with this truck what is your idea of it now? Would you buy it again despite the problems? Has everything been ironed out? My Lariat PB is built awaiting delivery the week of Christmas. Ordered it Oct 20.
Good video Dan and the truck is looking great, so glad the issues are past you. I have gone between F150 Platinums and Ram 1500's which is what I have now and I would probably go with the side by side over either of them or get a jeep which is a real thought for me. Keep up the great content, appreciate you
Thanks. I would certainly feel more comfortable doing it in my former 2015 Sierra. I would have just kept that truck but I was dumb and bought the double instead of crew cab and my daughter outgrew it.
Nice truck and nice video, I do love off-roading, and I actually work for a company that pretty difficult off-roading is very common. (26°+ inclines, mud, sand. We use stock F150s with the FX4 and almost never get them stuck (trail damage is a thing tho haha) That being said, I think that the stock f150 will go anywhere you would take that truck with the slight suspension mods. With your suspension upgrade, how does it handle the road vs stock? Is it rougher?
Id do it. And have. Just took my 2023 powerboost out to Hipoint truck trail/palomar divide. Handled things just fine. Paint jobs are made to be scratched. And besides, once the paints bad enough Imma just bed liner it anyhow. But I like all the creature comforts, so do my family, and it does everything else we need it to just fine. As for really getting out there and going crazy, even the S&S's are getting ridiculous.
I really think that a side-by-side is a much better option than taking a VERY expensive truck off-road! Either that or get older truck or Jeep and build it up. I’ve seen more than a few people get really pissed the first time their high dollar vehicle gets some “AZ pinstripes” or god forbid trail scrape 😂.
Yeah I was nearly one of those pissed off people lol. It’s just a very anxious experience in a newer vehicle. It would be fun to have a SXS or Jeep to specifically build for off road adventures.
I can imagine there are plenty that are as you mentioned. Get mad when they take scratches from trails but it depends on the person. I have a F150 thats pretty much the same as the one picture in this video but different color and year and stock suspension. It’s still a newer truck but have been off-roading it since I bought it. I don’t go out looking to trash it but I’m not scared to put it places others wouldn’t. I have light scratches along the side. Nothing that won’t buff out. But I find it’s a better all around option for someone like the guy in this video and myself because it gets me places I want to be but in comfort. I can also bring the whole family and the dog with coolers of food and drink. I think it’s really all what the owner is willing and wanting to do. I always tell others with similar trucks of similar value, unless you are willing to except what ever happens don’t leave the black top because you never know what’s down that trail. But that’s the fun of it. Finding out. I’m going to keep taking my expensive truck off-roading and continue looking for new places to take it! While I understand your take on it, I also see it as a waste to have 4WD and the other off road features in the off road packaged truck to never take it out and get my moneys worth out of it. It’s only worth what you pay for it if you get your moneys worth. Otherwise it’s money thrown away.
2018 Cruze with 5 grand negative equity. Auto trans I NEEDED. A manual again I felt I cut my balls off. My friend on Xbox asked me any trucks with a manual made today? Yes…… my first truck. 21 taco sport- same damn thing as a trd pro without the dif lock and snorkel. 45k sticker in feb. 21. 59.8 out the door. No regrets.
I'm sure it's much less nerve racking with a $100,000 when you have 1 million subs with lots of RUclips and sponsor stupid money. 😃 Well done. Also one of the reasons I have a $37,000 bare bones F-250. The battle scars still hurt but not near as much.
Fair enough. I don’t hate on those guys because I get it. They are truly entertaining people but I’ve always and will always strive to be myself and THAT just ain’t me. I come from humble beginnings and if I ever got that popular on RUclips I wouldn’t launch a truck 15 feet in the air then play shocked at the results. Worst I would ever do is truly accidentally break something and regardless of financial status, truly be bummed that I broke something so nice. It’s all about remembering where you came from, some of these creators talk like them came from struggle, but they sure don’t act like it.
@@GearsGadgets And it is that reason that I stayed all these years and look forward to the future. Too many loose that "down to earth", relatable personality when they get to a certain size or after so many years.
Trail damage and a $70K investment do not go together. My truck is not as expensive as yours, but I'm pick'n up what you're put'n down. I'm not about to do any over the top stuff with my truck when there are better ways and more appropriate vehicles for recreational off-roading than a full-sized truck.
So, i disagree that your truck is appointed to an “average” level. You’ve got $thousands in mods. Not saying it’s not cool because i love seeing what you can do to these trucks without altering the outward appearance i.e. lift kits, ridiculous tires etc. but you’ve changed out a lot of factory stuff for updated equipment. That said, how do you think the stock version of your truck would handle that trail? I’ve got a ‘17 Ecoboost with 20s on 32s that’s otherwise pretty much identical to your truck, stock though, and i don’t think I’d tackle that trail in it.
What I meant was it is an “average guy” build. The word build means money I’m just saying it’s built to be for the everyday guy, not over the top 6” lift on 40”s.
For me u should use a truck for what a truck is ment to be used for so,hauling and pulling heavy things or work and off roading. The reason why trucks are so expensive these days because everyone wants a truck these days for there commute to work which sucks because as i mentioned prices r now to high for people who actually need a truck . My opinion people should only be able to buy a new truck unless they need it for work or off roading. This is a good video tho ,i would like to see a truck like this compared to a tremor off roading to see which 1 i want to buy, after u did this suspension and tires ,the only real advantage the tremor has is that limited slip front diff out of the raptor so idk what im going to do but i can asure u i will be using it to pull trailers ,haul my dirtbikes and off roading because thats what a truck is for.
"Most people" use trucks to get groceries these days or go to soccer practice... I use my 2014 F-150 pretty hard and have never done that kind of off-road technicality (granted I'm in the mid-west so our bar for rough may be different)
For sure. I won’t make a habit out of that kind of off roading. I think I missed a point I was trying to make when I cut the video that I was more or less trying to prove your point to the turds who leave comments on “modest off road” videos for not being off road enough. Most people aren’t going to put their trucks in those kinds of situations.
For me, cosmetic damages are the story of your adventures. Wear them with humble pride. Mechanical damage on the other side though. So scared of mech dmg.
The one that he blew out the windows, bent the frame, tore up the suspension, then thrashed for weeks for views and sold as wrecked to someone to rebuild?
Definitely doesn’t off road better than a Jeep but 100% on road, snow, and tows better. Jeeps are terrible every day drivers compared to any truck no matter how much Jeep guys tell you how much better the new ones are. Still no comparison on road.
