    I kept things simple and they work great. 2023 F-150 XLT 4WD with 5100's at 2" front level/0" rear, and Toyo RT's LT275/70R-18. Perfect fit and perfect performance for my needs. 50% commuting locally, 25% towing 7K travel trailer (with rear air bags), 25% off-road on forest roads and desert trails in Arizona. Dealership alignment is solid with no weird wear patterns. Other options are available for more performance, but this simple set up works really well to have a reliable half-ton truck on 33's that fits in a garage. Cheers! Pete in Arizona - KI7LIL

    Just put these on my 15 F150 to replace the Fox 2.0s that were toast after less than 40k miles. Set them at 1" of level up front and they are a significant improvement over the Foxes and Factory.
    On road driving is incredibly smooth and controlled - almost supple. Low speed off road they really accept - they do a fantastic job controlling motion of the wheel without allowing the suspension to blow through travel.
    The only area where they struggle is on roads filled with potholes or washboard, those high frequency hard hits do transmit to the chassis, but still far better than stock or the Foxes. Not sure what shocks would suit that scenario though.

    @ShockSurplus
    Just to give u guys an update.
    While I still have bilstein b6 front strut for the 3rd/4th gen rav4 for my lifted xB, and rear bilstein b6 rear shocks off from 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma.
    Instead those 1” smaller shocks for my vehicle.
    Instead of using shock extenders.
    I decided to pull the trigger and bought correct length Bilstein B6 performance shocks, that’s made for 1998-2010 VW beetle.
    Both rav4 strut and VW beetle rear shocks are made for FWD, so this will do very well and it’s gonna be awesome.
    And gonna need some bottom shock hardware.
    I live in Illinois. And the shock surplus company is right next door of the state. So hopefully they will arrive on time.
    Little by little. And then I’m gonna go for new spacer or give my rear lifted spacer a trim by an inch to level my xB.
    And then go from front sway bar links or delete my front sway links.
    Since crazy. But we have couple of lifted xB that they have no issues and they have off-road suspension from Eiback.
    And they have better handling. And more flexible for the front as much as the rear.
    I always flex my lifted xB when I park. But because of my front factory sway bar. It tilts.
    So will see for the decision when the time comes.
    I love my handling. And flexing my xB. So it’s a 5050 lol.
    Than it will be front and rear springs from the company called Northwoods Performance.
    I’m truly hope and pray to god, than this year will make it happen.
    Because I drove my lifted xB setup for 3 years. No issues.
    But it’s time to fix the geometry suspension of my lifted xB correctly.
    Simply is that the front sway bar endlinks is being pulled and more tension buildup by 2”, cause it to droop through potholes and bumps.
    And rear shocks bang real loud from potholes, because my rear shocks is stock, and it’s not long enough to keep my rear tires permanently contact with the road.
    For how much this will cost me.
    Around $1345 which is not a bad price for lifted xB.
    What are u guys thoughts my lifted xB project clot fix this correctly and drive safely?
    While my Scion xB have access for lowering springs to full coilovers, and stock shocks and strut replacements like KYB- excel G. They will smooth and a bit firm.
    But I know what I’m getting and what to expect.
    These people that do review and road test on 4600’s, it’s a 5050 smooth, softer but remain control, and others say it’s firmer and little less soft.
    Well, I’m a firm believer that these 4600’s will be on my lifted xB. And it will be the first ever to have full bilstein B6/4600 shocks and struts as a lifted application.
    They will ride firm and with stiff springs by northwoods performance, that’s design for loaded gears.
    They will reduce the bodyroll themselves dramatically.
    And I prefer more control over comfort.
    If I felt a bit on a comfort side but remain more firm and control that’s great. If not, I’d still go for firm and control for less bodyroll.
    It will be worth it. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
    So why I chose bilstein B6 > KYB - Excel G shocks and struts?
    Because the longevity, and sure a bit pricier than KYB. But sometimes a little extra money to spend for longer lifespan to go more than 100k miles, that’s a no brainer.
    If KYB made Gas-A-Just for 3rd/4th gen rav4, and Excel - G in the back. That would be great. But no.
    hopefully this year will make this suspension project happen.
    And I’m doing my best to make it happen. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    I've been using this setup for the last 3 yrs. The difference and the upgrade it is so much for not doing it. I have taken my truck camping through service roads, trails, rough terrain with camping gear, and the truck behave stable and trustworthy. I add an inch puck in the front and lift the rear by 2in over stuck, running 35in tires. I will buy Bilstein again, i have no reason to buy expensive shocks when i can do the same with this setup for less. Im surprise you guys just find this out.....

  • @leonsoto8333
    @leonsoto8333 День назад

    I got this same setup. I went camping on dirt road. They got squeaky. Took back to the company that installed, they said bilstein won't cover it because it was taken off road. They removed, cleaned and re-oiled they said still sounded like dog chew toy. Spend the extra coin go fox or king. If you go (off road or in dirt) don't get these.

    I put 5100s on my 19 trailboss along with bilstein uca. It’s a huge difference in ride. I was intrigued by the 6112 but decided against it because of the cost. I can also attest to the sketchiness of cheap spring compressors, I’m still in one piece though 😅

  • @stonewp
    @stonewp 7 дней назад +1

    The spring compressor just adds time, complexity, and risk of injury. You can leave the top hat mounted on the chassis, put the top of the new shock into the top hat, put the bolt through the bottom hole of the shock and jack up the lower control arm to compress the spring to tighten the top nut.

    Even better with those spring compressors, when you choose the wrong spot to grab and after it’s installed you can’t release the spring enough to get the spring compressor off. I’ve got 2 sets of them so I have enough to get extra bite and movement. It’s always sketch.

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  7 дней назад +1

      Depends which vehicle, F150? We’ll usually recommend only going as high as needed to clear the desired tire size, so you maintain the best ride quality possible. You could put a spacer on top of the current setup if you really need more clearance, but also consider trimming the inner fender if there’s tire rubbing

      Fox 2.0 came in dead last comparison with the top 6 manufacturers, sadly. They even cheated and allowed Fox 2.5 in the economic shootout, still came in dead last. They're great build quality, needs custom tuning to correct their short comings. Bilstein came in 1-2 in all categories, I've been doing research for a couple of months for my 22 Ranger FX4 LARIAT Black Widow. I'm on a 3" lift, 33s. Rear is definitely rowdy stock shocks..

    • @ShockSurplus
      @ShockSurplus  7 дней назад

      We have an install coming on the power boost, will dive into some details there and hopefully share here on YT or our instagram. We haven’t tested the fox on the latest F150, but hard to imagine they can be softer than these, and also handle well. Usually fox 2.0 are pretty soft, but some of the handling / composure suffers. On top of that, these Bilstein will last 2-3x as long, the Fox 2.0’s lifespan is around 50-100k miles before they start to lose damping ability.

    • @ALMX5DP
      @ALMX5DP 7 дней назад +1

      Don’t quote me, but I believe ‘14 was the year they transitioned between front strut designs. Take a look at how your front strut bolts to your lower control arm. If it’s a single through bolt, it’s the old style and if it has the two bolt style similar to this install it’s the newer. I think as long as you match the style with either older 09-13 or newer 15+ F-150 you should be fine. Again my memory could be off but I think if you search around you’ll find that type of answer.
