- Is the AGFRC GY01 gyro good enough for RC drifting?
In this video, I install, test, and review this rc gyro to see if their claims that it is a competition drift gyro are really valid!
If so, this $35 gyro can save you some $$$ compared to the competition.

I've tried this gyro, it's good for the price, as you said less sensitive and precise for drifting but enough for low budget rc drift
I really think it is just spending money twice. After getting this, folks will eventually need to step up to a better gyro
@@RoadsideRC yes that's absolutely true, better buy once cry once
I think your assessments incorrect I'm using the same exact Gyro in both of my MST cars with digital servos and I do not have any problems that you spoke about the Gyros work as advertised I've been driving with them over a year and none of the problems that you have stated have ever cropped up with me maybe it has a lot to do with the radio you're using and your Servo but for me they have worked flawlessly for over a year
Glad it works for you!
What other gyros have you used?
I would be curious if you test the Futaba or ReveD how much difference you see...
Oi amigo esse gyro é bom pra um sakura d5 mr v2?
Hello - I do not recommend this gyro.
In this video, I share all of the parts I recommend. Links in video description.
ruclips.net/video/4-XKFoO-fO0/видео.html
AGFRC V3 gyro is significantly better - it's on Yokomo V4 level
I'll have to give it a shot!
Ik this vid is ild but plz help my gyro is just a solid blue light and I've got no steering
Sounds like it is not seeing the right signals. Please confirm everything is plugged in correctly!
If you really wanna budget, check out the newer "mxo racing" nano rx/gyro 2 in 1s. Just got one for my custom 1/24 build and it is on par with other "comp" gyros. Full dual gain and dual epa. All packed in a little 20mm rectangle, plenty of options for protocol too.
Thanks for the tip!
Is this gyro work better then the gyro that came with the yd2 ready to run?
Yes - but I do not recommend it.
Buy a good gyro, and don't look back!
I’ve heard that the drift specs are not good on this gyro and that it’s more for racing
It is not a gyro I would personally recommend. It is OK for the price, but gyros are very key in drifting and getting a good one is important.
Would it be good to keep my tto2 from wiping out?
AWD cars typically don't need gyros.
But, it may help you a little bit.
Hi do you know a budget good quality and sensitive gyro to recommend ?
100% no.
I have tested basically ALL of the gyros on the market. Seriously - almost ALL of them.
My conclusion at the end of the day: cut corners elsewhere. Do not cut corners on the gyro for your drift car. Spend less on your moto and esc. Spend it on the servo, gyro, and controller.
@@RoadsideRC thanks mate . Power hd dual system G1 worth it ?
@@devilkawasaki Nope.
I suggest any Futaba, ReveD, Onsiki Daruma, and lastly - the Yokomo DP-302v4
Might have to grab one of these for GRAYSON’S drift car he got from adventure time Brent .. he doesn’t need anything special, as we’re not drifting on a track or anything
What car did he get, exactly?
Good morning my friend! I have two questions...the first is why did you put the gyro gain control connector on channel 6 instead of channel 3? The second question is what is S.BUS? why be?
Hello!
I used Channel 6 on this controller because it was connected to the knob on the controller. This is what gave me the ability to control the gyro gain incrementally. The other channels for this controller are just on/off buttons. This would not control the gain appropriately.
SBUS is a communication tool, mostly on Futaba radios. It allows you more control over your gyro (sometimes even ESC) via the controller. It is a nice feature, but not necessary.
The issue of S BUS is very interesting! In this case, would you recommend connecting my gyroscope to channel 3 or channel S BUS of my receiver?
@PXCURSOS You must confirm the gyro, receiver, and controller are all SBUS compatible. Then, yes you can do this.
@@RoadsideRC Yes! Both parts support SBUS! I'm going to study the subject a little better! Thank you
Just now ordered mine might as well cancel since it is not good
I agree - there are better gyros available.
@@RoadsideRC The only thing is I dont want to spend a lot on a gyro since I am only doing this for fun
The car I am drifting is a old red cat racing car that is heavy modded for drifting 80% of the car is 3d printed 😅
It only cost me about 80 dollars and over 30+ hours of 3d printing to get done.
@Ben_Z33 Honestly - if you want to have fun, you want good components. It is much more satisfying to not be fighting the car with low-quality gyro.
I use one of these in a high powered basher and it makes a big difference! Can slide around with it pretty easy. But for actual drifting idk but for racing it's really good
That makes sense that it would do better in that application.
Doesn't the DumboRC receivers have a built in Gyro?
Yes - but they are not good for drifting. Same with Traxxas TSM or Spektrum AVC.
Thanks bro, I got one and installed to my 3racing sakura d4 and didn't work the I expected. Your video is very helpful.
Glad I could help!
I have this gyro for my WPL D12. It wobbles a lot. Gain has to be low. It is not a good gyro for drift agreed.
Yes! Agree
does this work on LDRC?
It would - but I do recommend buying a better gyro. It is always better to spend a little more on a good gyro.
yeh.. dasmikro costs so much here in my country.. even in alibaba the shipping costs 30 .. what would you recommend as an alternative that ranges to 20-50$?
I'm new to rc drifting btw
got the nsx (which is the frustrating one)
Put the gyro as far back in the chassis and as close to the centerline as possible?
The gyro placement does not matter as long as it is free from vibrations and mounted solid.
Thanks for the video. Not many I’ve found talk about how setting up the gyro.
Glad it was helpful!
Hi I would like to learn to drive the car in drift way but I do not know how need to setup the gyro : how you suggest me to setup it? both car parts front and rear moving in the same way or contrary ?
This should help:
ruclips.net/video/_9qjApI1Uog/видео.html
Great video! Always learn so much from you.
Do you think a stand alone gyro for something bigger like a 1/7 or 1/8 onroad arrma is worth it for power sliding?
I really don't think the gyronis useful for those applications.
Nice video review of the cheeper gyro troy thanks for sharing this with us all 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Nice Viper body! I got the white one. I was thrilled to find a cheap Viper body 😍
Yes - I am a big fan of that car.
Maybe a good gyro for off the track use?
I agree - that or drag racing.
That body cam was pretty epic. It looked realistic
Thanks!
Thanks for making this video!!!
I’m doing a similar build, but using a Walmart chassis I am cutting up. Having a lot of struggles lol
I bet you are! Good luck!
Try the v3 I wonder if it’s any better 😊
I need to!
Dose it have a high sensitivity mode like the gys2 v3 models they make
Not that I saw.
Great review Troy, it looks like they have ripped off onisiki's gyro design and put cheap internals in it. I wouldn't say it's not for drifting, it's more of a drivers gyro. The problem with the expensive gyros is they make it too easy. It's great for competition drifting that the gyro is making it easy or if your one of those guys that thinks driving in a train of cars is drifting, but if you want to still feel like your doing something then a cheaper gyro is a great way to do that. You can learn car and throttle control from having a cheaper gyro, but like you said it's not the greatest value and it has limits.
Interesting take on it!
I 100% would prefer a more quality gyro, but with the gain turned down vs a gyro like this one.
The wobble, the inconsistency - go with a quality gyro and tune it for your driving style.
Why not put in the rear? For more sensitivity?
I have not found a difference between front and rear mounting.
what esc and controller?
Are you asking for recommendations?
@@RoadsideRC what do you run?
@@user-hv6vc3xz3i I use this ESC: amzn.to/3F7D8s8
And the 10.5T motor from ReveD
Great video I've never went drifting but that was still fun to watch
Drifting is one of the parts of the hobby I enjoy the most.
Great info!! Thanks!!👌👍
Glad to help!
I have 2 AFRC mini gyros which work well but I recently saw a HGV4 review. Looks way smoother even at 100‰ gain.
Interesting!
@@RoadsideRC ruclips.net/video/mZ-jGnPI308/видео.html This dude is a must watch
I got this same gyro. Works decently 🤟🏼. I'll be upgrading soon to Yokomo
exactly - folks will eventually want to upgrade
@@RoadsideRC what would be the next best gyro to get? Would love your recommendation 🤟🏼🙏💯
I know this is a huge ask but would the Traxxas TQI receiver and transmitter with the multi function knob work for the gyro gain? There's a ton of things it can control but no idea what option to choose for the knob to actually control the gyro
I would be very surprised if it would work. Perhaps there is a way with the bluetooth link to tune it?
I only ask as the manual graph online shows that the multi function knob can be set to
-Steering sensitivity (expo)
Or
-Steering %(dual rate)
So I was curious if it was possible, also due to it having 2 Channel 1 ports
Thanks for this video
Happy to!
Thanks for watching.
Been watching all your gyro / drift videos... I;m using the new MST gyro on the 2.5 RTR I tend to think the potentiometer on the actual gyro is more usefull fine tuning than trying to adjust on the radio,,, any thoughts on that,,, should the pot tuneing on the gyro be more of a fine adjustment?
Are you still using the factory radio? Once you upgrade radios, it will make a big difference.
@@RoadsideRC I kinda want the new radio link rc8x,,, waitng for you to review it with a drifter
@@RoadsideRC It actually drifting verygood for stock rtr and stock radio,,,but yes I need a new radio
Try MST MGX gyro 👍🏻
I want to!
You made my day. Gone use it for bashing an xmaxx. Getting her level when jumping. Happy to hear your toughts
I'm not sure how you would use it to keep the vehicle level in air. It would need to modify the throttle for that. Very interesting concept!
@@RoadsideRC i mean when launching sideways, you just need throttle to get the car level again, because the gyro does the steering. I will still need to control the throttle to "dip or raise" the nose of the car
@@stefvandermey4841 That makes more sense!
What chassis is this
This is a Sakura D5s
What kind of servo do you run and what scale is it rated for?
I have run multiple servos with good luck. For drifting, I typically stick with the ReveD RS-ST.
@@RoadsideRC thanks
I’m just getting started in RC drifting but love real drifting/sim drifting and have lots of other rc’s so I know I’ll be into it. I’m going to go down the MST road and I’m pretty much settled in getting a RMX 2.5s kit but was curious if (in your opinion) there is any upside/downside to getting the 2.5s over a 2.0 kit.
I’m getting a kit bc I know I’ll be into it so I’m willing to spend a little more money on better electronics to give myself some head room once I get started
I would 100% go with the 2.5. The main weakness long-term with the 2.0 is the gearbox, and they fixed that.
I bought the 2.5S 3 months ago and runs like a champ with the TR60 shocks upgrade.I also bought the 2.5RS one week ago but it needs more tuning for the moment is not running so well as my 2.5S do...If you want to buy the 2.5S I suggest you to directly go for the 2.5RS because it comes with the upgraded aluminium TR60 shocks and the carbon parts for almost the same price of 2.5S + TR60 shocks wich you will need(the plastic ones that comes with the 2.5S kit are shit).
Just got my Yokomo V4 2 weeks ago and yet to set it up.
I have a video on how to do it!
@@RoadsideRC I will search for it, thanks!
AGF RC make a great product. They make alot of the name brand servos on the market like Reefs and Powerhobby. Looks like that's what's in the car you've got. I just got that same servo (upgraded version) for my Fazer and it works great.
Happy with their servo...not so much on the gyro...
@@RoadsideRC when I looked on their site, I thought their gyros were only listed for a mini-z, don't know if it makes a difference what size the car is or not.
Very good gyro, I have two of them in my speed run cars but seems pretty precise for drifting. Not as fancy as the yokomo so not asmany features but gets the job done on a budget
Yeah - I would have to recommend it sticks to speed run cars. Can't really recommend it for drifting.
@@RoadsideRC Yeaah
Still can't believe you haven't checked out the Power HD G1 gyro. It's easily on par with the Yoko V4, some like it better. It is easy to find for under $50 and is even available in a combo with the very good D15 servo for around $100.
I recently setup a G1 gyro and Power HD R12s servo in an old Sakura D4 chassis. The D4 lacks steering angle and has an odd weight balance which makes it a very difficult chassis to tame, this setup ran like a dream. I was able to program the R12s servo to take out all of the shake without sacrificing control. I can run 100% gyro gain with no shake at all, it doesn't lack sensitivity either, on 100% the car is almost undrivable because you have to hold 100% steering to get the car to transition. I've also tested a yoko V4/SP-02D v2 as well as a GYD450/R12s setup in this car. The G1/r12S setup gave me the best feeling and the least amount of shake. The only setup that feels better than than the G1/R12s is my comp setup which is a GYD550 and PowerHD D15.
I'm now considering changing my recommendation for newbies. I've always recommended the GYD450/AGFrc A50bhl or the Yoko V4/SPo2d v2. But the fact you can pickup a G1 with a D15 servo for nearly half the price of those combos, add on a programmer for $30 and you have a setup that can easily take you from beginner to tandem competition.
Really glad you found this combo that works!
Where do you buy them? I don't see them on AMain at all, and on Amazon the gyro alone is $80!
good review and setup of the gyro seems on test the results were not that good so a case of get what you pay for maybe
*full view always🥸Au👍thumbs up*
Exactly!
