Hey David, if you literally just picked up the One RS twin edition like last week 🙄, would you just jump on this modular upagrade? I’m thinking if you get this you wouldn’t go back to the standard 360 or the 4K boost lens.
@@exiiit gahhhh, that's a tough question! I still like having both a 360 camera and regular shooting action camera with me on any adventure that we go on. The ONE RS can obviously be both of those things, but if you went for this setup, then you would need to also have another camera to have that ability to just shoot, edit, post. Dang man, that's a tough call!

@@DavidManningvlog I definitely agree that getting it wet (even with a future underwater cage) for a $799 cam is definitely scary. I'd probably wait for a 1" One X3 since I'd prefer less modularity for less weight & a waterproof body that I'll double waterproof with a case in the sea. Fingers crossed it's in the Insta360 roadmap 🤞.
Also, great parachuting/paragliding footage.. you kinda sound like you're stoned though 😅 No sound of fear or amazement in those sentences.

This demo was the best. David!!!That 's what we love ..how you test your toys. Not waterproof, but splash resistant .and bit heavier..and $$...can't do it... I love water- rain , snow shots .. I am certain the next one is in the making to meet all that.. (( saving up $$$))

alright, some thoughts from someone who literally bought the one RS 2 days ago.
I agree with you when you are saying "360 action cameras are the future" because you don't have to worry about the camera angle; plus, it allows you to achieve insane, much more creative shots than you would get on a normal action cam.
HOWEVER. The price is not justified at all, even only for the upgrade kit for those who already own a One RS Twin. To me, the upgrade kit should be priced at about 300€ to make sense: the modularity should help achieving lower prices, even at the cost of waterproofing the camera.
And regarding this camera not being waterproof: it's totally fine! That's because 360 lenses are not well suited for underwater shooting. the lenses have a specific radius which simply do not play well with refraction caused by water. So basically to get a full action camera you are supposed to get a gopro for more generic things, and a 360 camera for 360 things. Want a solid compromise? Then there is the one RS twin.
I hope I was able to give you all a different perspective :)

UPDATE 3/7/22 (yeah, 4 days after my comment above): my insta360 one RS cannot connect to the app anymore. Seems like wifi chip is fried for some reason. I took the camera out for a quick test (my first one with the camera, actually!!!) and when I arrived at destination (5 minutes ride) I noticed the camera was very hot.
While I am still able to record videos, I can't connect to the camera via wifi nor via bluetooth. I tried a factory reset, I tried installing and reinstalling the app, I tried restarting the phone, I tried with another device (a galaxy tab S7+). Nothing, zero, nada, nisba.
I don't know what to say, except for sure this is not what I expected from a 600$+ camera.
Great video! Might seem random but love the energy when you first walk into frame in your studio.

Great breakdown of this camera! You never fail to give the best quick review on cameras. Love it. And I do think we are getting close to where 360 cameras are the only action camera you need, but I think the size needs to go back down a bit, and like you said, they need to be waterproof. Also, I didn't see anything about protecting the lenses while in use. I know on my Go 2, you can screw on a UV filter/lens protector, is that something you can do on this? Just don't want to have to get the whole thing replaced or have a lens ruined.

I own 3 onex2 cameras and I used them to compliment my videos for events but I am excited with the fact that the new 360 can handle better low lighting conditions, but here is my question. I haven't heard that from anyone in their reviews. How long does the battery last if it is on continuously? You mentioned it gets hot would that be an issue? would it shutdown before the battery dies? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I have a x2 and love its videos/pictures. I use it mostly on my motorcycle rides and cause of battery life I end up plugin most of the time ( removed the USB door and use a 90 degree usb plug). I have issues with the selfie stick/camera when extended cause of the wind at speed (80 mph) causing pressure on the mount already, the heavier camera will cause more problems. Also wish they made a "powered" version with no battery to lighten it up.
so currently I'm using your suggested workflow to process the footage in post. I download the footy to my phone and then compose the shot and then export it. My question is, it already take a kind of long time to download the footage with the insta360 one X2. Does this amount of time double with the extra 6k footage size?
Well first up, we gotta get you using one of their Quick Readers! I don't shoot with the Quick Reader attached to the camera, but instead just pop the SD card out after shooting, pop it in the quick-reader, then plug that into my camera. The downloads are way way faster! With this, the files aren't necessarily that much larger. You're just going from 5.7K to 6K, but the quality of those files is much higher because of the larger sensors👍

Fun times David ! Very cool 360 cam..big improvement for certain. Still lacking in resolution though, once you start actually reframing cinematically it's 1080 MAX
Resolution is far less important than sensor size though. There's a whole lot of 1080 cameras out there that are much higher quality than some 4K cameras on the market, because the 4k camera is pulling so much resolution out of a tiny sensor. The upgrade here is quality for sure though. Think of cinema cameras. A GoPro is 4K, but so is an ARRI Alexa Mini. The difference is sensor size👍
This footage looks awesome 👍 i invested in a gopro 360 and you can visibly see a line break between both lense sometimes but i couldnt find one on this

Looks awesome. Invested in the One RS twin edition, so I'll stay with it as I need waterproofing. It's a shame this 1" lense isn't compatible with the One RS. Now that's an upgrade to consider. 🤔👍🏼
great review- like others, lack of waterproofing is a drawback for me. Help me understand the benefits of modular, outside of someone owning the RS already and getting the upgrade as you described? What tangible benefits will modular bring vs an all in one (waterproof) camera body like the onex2?

Hi i’ve been using a One X and recently upgraded to One Inch 360. For both cameras when I edit / reframe and export from my mobile app, the quality looks good. But the max resolution is HD
When I use the desktop studio, the export quality seems very bad, even with 75mbps or 100mbps bit rate. I’m not sure if i cropped too much during the reframing, i used the default options / views and didnt zoom in further
Also for desktop studio there doesnt seem to be preset options for HD or 4K etc. i have to manually enter the resolution for myself.
Would you know what’s the best options for the 2 issues I have? Thanks alot!
Does this support protective filters? Like UV Filters? I am scared of scratching the lens. Also, do you have any sample 360 photos that you have taken with it?

Thanks again for the response. I've been looking and waiting for a camera that can replace my Garmin Virb XE. I use them all the time for my motocross videos and nothing does what they can do but the stab is not as good as current cameras and the video only goes to 1440 with stab.
I don't think this new 360 cam would work well on a helmet mount. Looking into maybe mounted on the bike. Also waiting for the lens guards.

As a first time buyer of an action camera; you purchase this new Insta 360 RS 1” edition or the Insta 360 RS with 4K booster and the 5.7 360 lenses bundle? I live in south Florida, so would like a waterproof camera (I think). Or would other action camera would you recommend. Great video…..

You get 4k and 5k footages from action cams and 360 is still far behind. For this model you get 6k but thats before exporting.
If I were buying my first 360 camera I would give this serious consideration. But as a One X2 owner I don't think it gives me enough reason to upgrade.
I don't shoot in low light very often and would rather keep the slim profile, low weight and waterproofing.
I like the form factor which was always my gripe with the One RS. I think I will hold out for the One X3.
Totally agree, I love my one x2 , footage does look to have a bit more clarity, though I would wait to see if there are many major flaws, like overheating.

They should make a 1 inch mod for that vertical layout with some zv1/rx100 depth of field, then I'd consider buying it.
I (Kelley) was shocked that you could see the selfy stick in your hand more than the other onex2. It wasn't quite as invisible. It may have been the angles. The low light looked great. I just at this point can't see paying that much for one right now. Maybe one day. Especially since I just bought the oneX2 (Which I love)
That's actually my fault because of the paraglider. I was running about a 10ft selfie stick so I could get a better angle. It's the stick that you adjust the stitch for on the ONE X2, but the firmware for the ONE RS 1-Inch doesn't have that feature yet. It will though, so we'll be able to use the long stick soon👍

Hey David, is there an action camera mode, where you can take full advantage of the 1" sensor on just one lens?
Unfortunately not yet. It's something I've passed along though, because the ONE X2 has that mode. Hopefully it will be a firmware update👍
Nice for the people who jumped on the 360 actioncam wagon. Still no progress for people who would like a tiny vlogging camera with good image quality and wide (not extreme) angle with no distortion.
Can you import the video straight into fcpx to edit or does it require you to use their software first?
Solid question Amy! I know there's a plugin for Premiere Pro that can reframe within the editor, but I'm not positive if there's one for Final Cut. I'll look into it!

Look at the comparison videos. The one x2 (5.7k) footage looks almost indentical to the new camera (6k). Only difference would be the new camera isn’t waterproof and might be a little better in low light. Not worth $800 especially if you already have the one x2
@@davidsalsberry5748 Resolution isn't much higher but the sensors it has are slightly bigger giving it better low light capability and greater dynamic range. Value is personal but, yeah, this camera has a lot of drawbacks compared to the X2 (price, size, weight, waterproofing) that I'm not completely sold on it either.
nice review, however as a 360 motovlogger myself, I been using one x2 for long time, been hopeing insta360 will annouce one x2's next generation product, but after watching lots of review videos , I have to say insta360 one rs 1 inch is NOT for motovloging, insta360 even officially mentioned it on their purchasing page, that this camera is not for action or high speed, and it can not be used with fully extended selfie stick ( due to its weight I guess). Anyway this 1 inch is really a new era for 360 video making, for me I guess I will keep on waiting for " One X3"
What is the benefit to it being modular? It appears that it needs to be fully assembled at all times, so why not have it all one piece (Like the X2) and waterproof? Too high of a price without being waterproof.
Well one, it makes it so that if you already have an RS mod, you can swap it in, but two, it makes it so that if you jack up the lenses, you can replace the lens mod and not the whole camera. Also, future proofs things a bit if they come out with more mods for the vertical form factor. Sort of like a full sized camera where the lenses are separate from the camera body👍
Bigger sensor will sure work wonders for dark corners in real estate shots. Maybe just wait for black Friday discounts.
My One RS expert bundle literally just arrived 2 days ago and I haven't opened it waiting for this new announcement. Now I'm torn if I want to return what I just bought and get this or just buy the lens upgrade... Cost a lot $$$ though
i have an exiting One R set, any difference in terms of video/picture quality if i use the One R core?
They didn't tell me that anything would be different. It says that both the ONE RS and ONE R cores work, but I haven't tested out the ONE R yet because the firmware was pre-production. I'll check that out for the follow up video👍

Nice review again. 👍 if you don’t mind, I have a question about charging battery. How many way of charging? Can you charge only battery by itself using a cable or do you have to charge through RS core which mean you must connect RS core and battery first then connect cable to RS core to charge? Because I don’t like the RS core heated unnecessarily while charging.

How’s the stitching and audio? Looking forward to a detailed update once you put it through its paces!
The stitching is amazing, which is pretty normal for Insta360 and the audio is fairly good, which is also normal for Insta360. They do have an audio adapter for this though that you can then plug in a wireless mic system like the GO II or DJI Mic and it puts it right in the stitch line, so it stays invisible. I'll make sure to get that in the follow up video!

With the One X2, 5.7K video exported to 1080p. While the One RS 1" is now 6K, I assume it still exports to 1080p. Is that right?
Out of the Studio App, you can export as 1080 or 4K, but the footage itself reframed is 1080. The really cool thing though is that you can export as ProRes so that you don't lose any quality from compression🙌
Do we know whether it is compatible with the RS dive case? Can't find any info about that
Almost certain it's not. It's a totally different form factor and I believe quite a bit larger than the RS dive case setup
Something I'm noticing on almost every one of these reviews, people need to extend the 'invisible' selfie stick further due to the size of the camera needing more distance for the stitch line, added to that the cameras added weight then causes the selfie stick to bow and not be completely straight. This then leads to the selfie stick being less 'invisible' with this camera than it is with the previous generation.
Nice! I've been using my 360 ONE R for Livestreams from the club/bar but it's not good in lowlight.. does this lens work the same as the original 360 lens when it comes to Livestreaming/webcam via usb?

This one is pretty dang dope, but the ONE X2 is also still really dope! Tough call between them, the ONE X2 is smaller, lighter, and waterproof, while the ONE RS 1-Inch 360 is higher quality and better in low light conditions. I think it's more down to what you need in a camera like this👍

Suuuuper vid and grat greatinfo! If I use it and crop it to a normal POV, like as a normal action-acm, what resolution do I get? You said, on the smaller insta360, i’t like 1080. Also: I read, you cant’t use it for single lens mode (SLM). Now, what’s the difference between SLM and just framing the 360-shot? Resolution. And is this a hardware or software thing, like - could they upgrade this one to be able to shoot 'true' SLM? Thanks!

Pretty sure it would mount, but then wouldn't lock into the cage, so would be super sketchy to do. I would recommend against that👍
@@DavidManningvlog Here is hoping the make a little clip on cover that lets you mount those other lenses on this vertical setup. Either that or perhaps we will see a replacement for those other two lenses in this larger format?
Man i just bought the insta one 360 x2. Lol was sitting on the fence whether to get the modular one 360 rs ...sigh. agree with you on the waterproof version would be nice. Price a bit on the high side but after you buy all the accessories it does add up. thanks for the review david. As always fun to watch your adventures and how you just love life! This is the final piece of the puzzle for my gear. I've been considering a 360 camera for sometime and this ticks all the boxes! yeah it's not cheap but can see why it's price the way it is.
This is for sure the highest quality consumer level 360 camera on the market right now! Again though, if you're looking at action sports at all, go for the ONE X2, but if you're just looking for the highest quality, this thing is bananas good!

I would love to see 4 or 6 lens 360 cameras offered with the appropriate increase in resolution, tools, and at an affordable price. If you can combine cheap 4k sensors and optics, and be able to handle the throughput, this should be feasible.
( On Alibaba those would cost between $30 and $60, so 6 lenses would be ~ $240 [less with volume] ). I just don't know why the PRO versions for the 360 cameras have to be that expensive.
I would think that with some ellbowgrease and determination one would be able to build this for around $1k and still make a profit
Playing with 360 3D and spatial sound combined with E.g. the meta quest is just one of the most immersive experience you can have.

How long can it record non-stop? Looking for a rugged 360 camera for live talks on the beach.
I haven't hit a limit on it, but that flight I did was a 30 minutes and it recorded the whole thing in one clip no problem👍
