Hope this video helped you with your DC reels. Let me know what other rod or reel videos you’d like to see!
It’s the 7’2” Mag Heavy, it’s going to be a killer topwater and frog rod
What pound test line were you using?
How do you like the HGK series?
Hallo, kawan, saya minta izin, pinjam vidio untuk promo Rell SLX DC nya, jika di perbolehkan saya mau pinjam vidio nya, terimakasih
What is the rod you are using?
Here we are in 2023... And I caved and got this bad boy, can't wait to use it
My next set up is going to have a SLX DC on it. Love that whine.
*Awesome reel, **enjoyable.fishing** recommend especially for the price! No problems so far. Reeled in a 14lb laker yesterday and performed great. (5-10 min reel in time) Love the drag adjustment.*
Is this a bit or something, I see these under every fishing related video where it says enjoyable fishing, but the link pops up. Is this a virus link, a scam, a mistake (if it is a mistake, it is EXTREMELY common), or a link to something useful?
@@gabrielp1306 it just brings me to a fake amazon scam site
@@legion8989 for some reason I cannot edit my previous comment, so I will leave another comment.

I just bought one today. I’m so excited to get on some fish with it! This was very helpful and relieving that it is so easy to set up. Picked up a few tips as well. Great video.
Just ordered an SLX DC and anxious to try it out. Thanks for the info. Also, just subscribed. Good work.
Took your advice from IG post and watched this excellent tutorial !👏
Awesome!!! Buying one for the first time, really appreciate the tips and review
Just got out my ten-year-old Calais DC bombed a 5 in senko 40yds, what a great feeling. Good video man
how do you know it was 40yds?
Thanks for the info! Love the hat
I just got mine and your set up instructions were great.thanks
Man, I learned so much in this video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the tips. I just got my slx dc on sale today paired with a dobyns fury mh rod. Cant wait to get on the water tomorrow and bomb some senkos.
Great video. I have the SLX setup myself. Great step by step tips.
your spot on about the setup I love mine worth every penny
Thank you for this great tutorial. The explanation helped me a lot as I just recently purchased the SLX DC.
I just got my slx dc 151HG. This guide will come in handy! Tight lines Terry!
You’ll love that reel, thanks for watching the video!!
Awesome vid. Got a lot of good info out of it
New subscriber just purchased SLX dc hg reel thanks for the tips can't wait to use it for pike here in Scotland tight lines 🎣🎣🏴🏴🏴👍
I don’t use my DC reels as often as MGLs but my Met DC always comes out on 20mph+ windy days. I thought about the new conquest dc but the weight of those round reels is a little high for my taste. Thanks for the quality uploads man. A lot of good beginner info but also some hidden gems mixed in.
I have the conquest dc and Antares they’re both great reels and I cast every foot of line off the spool.
I got mine coming Monday I can’t wait to try it out
love your content fishhook! kill'n it!
Thanks for the tips. Helped me really learn my real.
Just bought one because of your review. Thanks 👍
+Johnny2gunz916 thanks man! You will really enjoy it!!
Nice vid, def gonna try to play with my settings a little bit! Thanks FHT
Thanks man! Let me know how it goes.
Great video! I have the non DC SLX and I freakin LOVE IT! I am planning a purchase of this DC version very soon. Man you got this right on about using the tape on the spool to start the line. Those Shimano spools are so slippery. Is that 30lb braid you have on that? I usually spool most of my reels with 20 - 30 lb Power Pro for the kind of fishing I do out here in Genessee County with about a 15 foot leader of 10lb fluorocarbon. Works for me anyway. See ya on the lakes!
You made my day. Very well explained. The best explained video. John F
Should make a video on skipping jigs/senkos with this reel.
Don’t
Just picked one up today and paired it on 7'4" MH st. Croix bass X rod. Can't wait to get out tomorrow to try it.
Nice ! Been wanting a st. Croix for a while, one of the only brands I haven’t tried! How does it compare to say, phenix Rods ?
@@dfmrh12345 never used one. Everything in my rod locker before i got the bass x is either a Fenwick or Abu Garcia.

hi man thanks for the explanation. i bought the shimano slx dc 151 today . it is looking good and most of all.... it feels great . but i don't have a qlue what i bought lol .
now i know:P . i go out next week to try it .but i know a lot about this reel now .....thanks mate. keep on fishing . greats Robby from the netherlands
Hey fishhook terry thanks bud I want to get one I'm experienced at baitcasting. But these reels are different. Hey Terry I saw a guy on u tube who through out the curado DC because he didn't know how to set the reel up. Excellent idea terry taking the clip and attaching it to something to get the line tight . God bless you and your family.
Best reels I have ever used, have 3 so far.
I spooled it with 8 LB test mono for lighter lures, gave it some practice casts and found that it did cast well ruclips.net/user/postUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e , except that the anti-backlash setting had to be turned up almost all of the way to keep the "overcasts' ' down. I disassembled it, and found that if I potted some "shim washers" behind that anti-backlash magnet assembly, it got the magnets closer to the spool without rubbing, and I could get better control with about a 6 to 7 out out 10-Max setting. I also noticed that the handle shaft had some internal end play, maybe only 2 or 3 thousands of an inch, but it's still noticeable. If the anti-backlash and shaft tolerances were "tightened up" this would be a fantastic value. I've only used it for 4 days of fishing in a month's time, but I plan on keeping it.
Thanks for making this video. I get my line spooled at a local shop. Its good for a few casts, then starts bird nesting. Guess its not tight enough. Ill try what you said.
super late on this, but i just recently purchased my first shimano SLX DC. thank you for the information, it truley helped.
on another note; nice hat! detroit native by chance? born and raised here
Thank you for an informative video. I just got my SLX DC reel and was wandering how to set it up since it said in the instructions that the spool tension knob works different than traditional baitcaster reels.
This helped me out so much thank terry
Very glad I could help!! 👍🎣
Thanks for the help
Nice video............just picked up a Shimano SLX DC at Sportsman's Warehouse (online) for $159.99. Been using an old Curado for years, looking forward to trying this out/something new.
Great job explaining the setup. I think 90% of the time people have backlash and major nests, is all because they didn’t either take the time to set it up properly or just didn’t know how to set it up. One thing I never thought of and is a great idea, was tying off a clip and running out 50 yards to crank back in with resistance. That alone seems like it will really help out even farther after you dialed in the settings. Nice job, I’m sure you helped a bunch of people out there struggling with bait casters
What's up fishhook Jerry? I just picked that slx DC bad boy up today so now I'm watching videos to justify my purchase lol.
Good job man !! Ty
I have to get one of these reels. I've heard that they are great for skipping. Every time I try to skip with a traditional baitcaster, I blow up the spool lol.
Set your spool properly and use your brakes don’t matter dc or regular reel
@@DAVE_WHITE yah it does honestly
@@sdflsdlfkjgh6637 what does? I had the First gen DC shimano sent me when I ran my review site it at the time was $649.00 I used it for 3 years I also have the New cheap DC reel you set them up the same just like I do my First generation Revo STX and there is no difference in setting up any bait caster the Dc just uses " electronics" to slow the spool at end of travel that is the only difference.. before you spout piss learn what you are talking about .
@@DAVE_WHITE ik what im talking about my dude. You said you could skip a non dc reel which may be true but youd have to be very lucky no matter the settings 9 times out of 10 it will backlash and also if you try to skip it more than a foot or two it will almost certainly backlash. You can adjust the settings to where it doesnt backlash as often or as bad, but you can never get it as good as a dc reel
@@DAVE_WHITE Not to mention you dont set a dc reel and non dc reel up the same
I know this is a bit old now, but a couple of questions came to mind when listening to you explain spooling up.
1. Put it on as tight as possible - agree, however the 'working part of the line', it almost doesn't matter, to a point, how tight the working part is, as an example, as soon as you throw out say a soft swimbait, which provides very little resistance to the line, as you reel it back on its gonna be lose compared to the rest of the line, this part of the line, the first 100ft lets say, will never go back on time after time as tight as can be.
2. If the 4 brake modes are 4 for skipping baits or casting into the wind etc and 2 is for braid, what happens if you are skipping baits into the wind with braided line? 2, or 4 setting?
The whole tension on the line is overkill considering whenever you cast and retrieve the line won't be as tight unless you hold your line everytime you reel in. I get that you want to do it the very first time you spool your line but after that very first cast your line won't be as tight anymore.
He’s only talking about the spool up so what is ur point?
lol u may cast and it gets loose duh but u don’t want loose line more than u can cast don’t want loose line under ur casting distance
I think it helps keep line memory
Good review
Thanks, nice video.
Thanks for good video
Just got a couple SLX the other day like them so far.
I just got one thanks for the info
You’re welcome man, tight lines!
would u recommend the sick stick or the dobyns fury to go with this reel gonna get one of them in the next couple days
thank you very helpfull
I prefer the slx dc 70HG (JDM version), because the breaking system is more refine and the spool is much lighter to throw lighter lure bait
Quick question. I have a Shimano 151 SLX XT. After spooling, Does the line go over the metal bar or under the metal bar and then thru the hole?
Thank you for this! Just ordered my first dc reel and can’t wait too see what the fus is about
I just won my first dc reel in an online bass tournament, im excited to see what the whole deal is with them too
1st time viewing, nice video I just bought one of these reels. What kind of all purpose pole would you suggest pairing with this reel? I subscribed✊🏾
get the st croix bas mojo or daiwa tantula .. medium heavy
@@joshs3905 just bought mine feels good to know I already have a daiwa tatúla medium heavy sheesh can’t wait to get it today
Great video! I’m almost exclusively using Curado DC’s . I get laughed at some but no backlash and stupid proof! I can throw a baitcaster but why not just fish and have no worries? Love them
Haha see that’s what I mean, why do guys hate when you can just fish and not worry. I think it has something to do with the sound and guys who still want to bash all things Shimano. Their loss our gain! Thanks for watching David!
Fishhook Terry absolutely! Let them spend a day pulling off line on about 4 rods or wasting a new spoil of $20 fluorocarbon!
Haha love this.
THANKS FOR THE VIDEO SUPER USEFUL, WHAT ROD ARE YOU PARING WITH THE SLXDC ?
I’m subbed to you now you helped me out so much and just bought a 7’1 st croix bass mojo rod for it thanks so much brother
Muchas gracias.
Thank you.
Excellent
Just unboxed my slx dc and waiting on my Corrado dc to be delivered
Had mine spooled at fleet farm cause I was feeling lazy lol smh I should have told these ladies to just forget it as soon as they were like how do we.. n then she busted out the screwdriver and put it through the line spool zero tension on it.. I was like.. yea thanks haha so I got in the boat and put a nice big lure on and let the line all the way out and kept the boat moving about 3-4mph and reeled it in and got it spooled noice and tight and oh baby this reel BOMBS lures or you can flick it skip it light bait heavy bait love this reel
Good afternoon sir thank you so much for the info, any additional wisdom would be appreciated I'm getting my first baitcaster the Scorpion 21 DC 150XG paired w/ the Curado casting A, medium power 86 in. I've never used a baitcaster before, I consider myself a fairly proficient openface spincaster, I will be using it in New York primarily for Bass, Trout, and Pike (hopefully). I'm going to be using 15 lb power pro braid with 20 lb fluorocarbon leader. Tried to read reviews to pick out what would be best for me as a complete novice in baitcasting, what do you think of this setup please, thank you.
It’s great reel
I put my line on an old beach casting reel attached to an old rod first. I tie the rod to a post and set the old reel drag to the tension I want for loading my baitcaster. Simple to then just wind the line onto my baitcaster at a set tension.
Just commented on another video you made about this reel. Another question, you say to keep the micro chip "charged" it uses the casting of the reel? If you don't fish regularly and the reel sits, does that mean the next time you fish the micro chip won't work? I'm looking to spend around $170-$200. I have two older Abu's and have had no issues with them but I hear the newer ones have issues with the side plates coming off. My dad uses Calcuttas and likes Shimano. There's way too many choices. Any advice would be nice.
I’m trying to decide between a older metanium Dc or the slx dc. There’re about the same price, any suggestions?
Can you cast the whole spool out? I can get like 60 yds before birdnest happen using powerpro 20lb.
As I am new to Bait casting reels the Shimano DC Reel . What size and weight line should I be using. ? Your Video is the best I have seen on you tube. Right now I have on spider wire 20Lb Stealth Smooth 10lb test Dia. and it seems to be to light. Your suggestions will be very helpful. In 2 and 3 I am only getting about 30 to 40 feet per cast. Jim C
I’m having trouble understanding the breaking system so if want setting 3 do I put 3 of the breaks down?
I just picked up a slx dc. I love it, but I get some over run when it hits the water. It seems super free, it casts a very long way. I’m very familiar with baitcasters but this is my first dc. I feel like I have to tighten the spool tension well beyond the “spool slack take up” to slow the spool down. What do you recommend? Loosening it to the point the spool doesn’t click side to side seems just too loose. It over runs a bunch when the lure hits, it’ll even do it as a jig or Texas rig is sinking to the bottom. This reel is almost ‘too’ smooth haha
I just got this reel and I have the exactly same issue. I have used normal baitcasters in the past but with this SLX I've had to tighten the spool tensioner WAY down, otherwise I get birds nesting when the lure hits the water. Did you figure out any insights into this since you made this comment? Would appreciate it!
Thank you
I want to know on the scorpion DC reel
if I set the adjustment to W or A and I don't put my thumb on the spool it is impossible to have a blacslash
Thank You
You did braided line. Is the set up the same for other lines as well?
Hi what lb braid are you using? What brand? Tieing right to lure or mono leader?
I have a carado dc, with 20lb braid, wound it pretty tight, filled it full, set the break to 3 and have the spool tension so it doesn't move side to side but still will slow fall with .25oz weight. It will backlash like a mother if I weren't thumbing it. What you are doing is voodoo to me. If it weren't on video I wouldn't believe you.
rogue109 brake mode 3 is for fluorocarbon line and does not work well with braid or mono, also when you press the thumb bar/spool release, make sure that your line is not tangled around the last eyelet of your rod, had that happen to me multiple times
Hope this helps
(Edit:spelling)
@@gabrielandrade8056 mines still backlashed until i tightened up the tension knob but honestly out of pure instinct i still thumb it but not as much like a regular reel
Setting 2 is for braid and mono
Hello nice info... 👍
Great video FT! What # for flipping a jig?
Mate I have had this for about 2 months now... I used to keep adjusting the tension knob for lure/bait weight like your supposed too for a non DC reel... But as you mentioned this is wrong. Doing it does allow you to cast without thumbing the end but it will limit the distance. In the guide book it clearly says to only adjust the tension knob until there is no more side to side action/knocking sound and to leave it like that for everything to maximize the DC function. It works great and cast further like this but you will still have to thumb the end (Just before it hits water) for all settings but 4 on the Brakes. The only way I can see you are not thumbing the ending on other settings is that you are tightening the tension knob a fair bit past the side to side/knocking
+VICKB thanks for watching and the comment. I have a very special magic that allows me to cast fat and not have to thumb it. I call it my Fishhook Sauce! Haha but for real, it’s okay to play with the tension knob to dial it in so it has no play side to side and allows you to make a bomb cast without thumbing. It may only require you to adjust a millimeter to get what you need, not cranking it down. Good luck and you’ll find the exact spot that works for you.
I’m 11 months in the future and I think you just saved a SLX DC from going into the lake!
Hi what lb test and what type of braid are you using? Leader between braid and lure?
Good video
Thank you man, I really appreciate you watching!! Just followed you on Instagram. Tight lines!!
what type of braided line are you using?
Does the star drag move a bit forward and backward a little if you lightly wiggle it on yours? Cuz idk if that’s normal or not
When u say tie the knot to the spool do we tie it around it or in the hole then tape
When running mono and fluoro what pound test do you recommend to function the best?
Zachary Pearson idk about this guy but I usually use 12 lb mono and 15 lb fluoro

Thanks for the guide, these kinds of reels ( both dc and regular baitcasters for that matter) are not mega common here in Norway, as predator fishing is not as common as in the united states of bassmerica so good to find some info on these, they exist here, but most tackle shops i go to have maybe 4 or 5 of these kinds of reels, market isnt big enough, heck country isnt big enough for them to have a large selection of baitcasters, so alot of the staff don't have that much expirience with them, are they good with heavier stuff? was thinking about getting a heavier set up for some larger pike lures that can get rather heavy up in the 40-80g range 1.4-2.8 ounce in freedom land kinda weight, very uncomfortable to throw that with a spinning reel.
I first started with baitcaster because I wanted to cast big swimbait pour pike and I will never return to spinning for pike!
