As I get migraines with even slight lcd/led use, I'm hoping they keep working on this technology. Not sure I can justify the purchase yet, but It seems like a lot of people see it as a novelty instead of a necessity.
I like it just because of the battery life it gives and I just love the technology! Hopefully they keep working on it and it gains popularity on mobile and portable devices
It would have been nice knowing if the battery life of the device is affected, or what other advantages using an eink color display with a backlight offers. Nice video anyway.
When watching videos and doing heavy stuff, battery is generally not better than normal devices. It can be worse when watching a lot of videos since batteries aren’t that big.
Honestly I could totally see myself using this, having my e-reader make phone calls/text and use spotify would essentially eliminate the need for me to have two separate devices. Yeah things like video playback would suck but the whole point of e-ink is to read so I imagine for anybody who wants to focus on reading this wouldn't be a huge downside. More battery life than the average smartphone too, and much easier on your eyes. If they had a more polished non-chinese version I would seriously consider getting one.
you must have shined a extremely bright light on those screens because the hisense a7 cc I bought has a fucking dark screen when it's front light turned off.
As far as I am aware unfortunately they don’t. But it’s interesting to see eink phones starting to be a thing. Hopefully lots more improvements to eink phones in the future to come :)
The only downside is the lack of google. Which for some is great, but for me not so much. This would really be the perfect phone for me if it wasn't for that.
Why isnt this tech in electric cars and hybrids yet? It will cut down on the power drain of many lcd displays and the amount of outdoor lighting car interiors see would only benefit an eink display which would need only a light at night which still would use less power than an LCD/OLED
They need to figure out a way to get a Google friendly version...this looks awesome, but as someone who works at a BYOD workplace, my work email won't work with this...
You would only need 16-24 fps to make a smooth transition. More is not really necessary if you are not using lcd technology, because you don't need an always-refresh-rate.
Reactivity from the screen (not as bad as an actual ereader) : you should look videos of people using the keyboard, vivid color, camera may be a chores to get a good pics due to reactivity : let alone video. But you will get : better battery life when it's not in use. no blue light (better on the eye), easy reading experience. For my eyes alone, I'll buy it! Just looking a normal screen gives me headaches.
People complain so much .... I'm buying one and you should too. Seriously why wouldn't you buy one? I'm tired of crap apps anyways I rather get back to reading.
SHould I go for colour or monochrome? The normal e ink one looks so clear and sharp but the colour one looks so dull as if I will always have to keep the frontlight on to even see anything in doors.
Does the A7 have the speaker pack? Is the speaker pack the speaker that is not located in the ear piece but located somewhere else specificaly for it thereby making it a higher quality speaker? Where as the A5 had a speaker in the ear piece where the phone meets the ear, but was not as good quality?
It looks really slow. Color eink does not add anything at the moment. If they can increase the refresh rate only then it can be even considered as a worthy contender for LCD and LED displays
I'm surprised that its not raised very often about these e-ink devices in general, but I would like to know how this model performs as a GPS navigator. There seems conflicting detail as to which GNSS systems are supported. If anyone has used this model for navigation purposes I'd love to hear some feedback as to how reliable it is in maintaining a satellite fix, its strength and accuracy. Having a device that has a viewable, clear and unreflective screen for outside navigation would be great! I don't intend to use the cellular service at all (5G is an environmental/health disaster!), so I'm assuming I can still use the GPS functions in flight mode, correct?

This dude just ruined all of his credibility in the first minute. "This phones background is gray because it uses all the colors to make white". I understand he's not too technical, but damn how can I trust anything else you say after that one.
That's not how eink usually works, there are white micro capsules that make white, so this is very different from other eink displays.
3 года назад
@@TenOfZero1 Are you sure about that? Where did you read it? I thought color e-ink was a black and white screen with a color filter on top, so they worked the same for displaying black and whites
@ the color filter is always there. Nothing is stopping you from having part of a sub pixel not having one and being white, but in this case they did not do that it seems. So to do white they can't just remove the filter so they have to set the color components to on to do white.

Are there any comparable eink smartphone to the A7 scheduled to be released this year? Thanks for the review and comparison.
No. Onyx says it'll release a phone too but thats been in development for a long time now without any update since last year
I was wondering too
Great specs and better clarity. But due to its size the a5 pro cc is the best color eink phone in my opinion
Does anybody know if Hisense will continue their eink smartphones and develop new ones in 2022?
Hi I heard New version will come out May this year
Is it possible to listen to spotify or other music app while the monitor is off? thank you.
Thanks for the review. It seems that a standard black ink screen is the better option (IMO) as the background is more white.
yes. this is kaleido 2. kaleido 3 or 4 will maybe be better than b/w
you must have shined a extremely bright light on those screens because the hisense a7 cc I bought has a fucking dark screen when it's front light turned off.
Does this or any other colour e ink phones have water resistance?
As far as I am aware unfortunately they don’t. But it’s interesting to see eink phones starting to be a thing. Hopefully lots more improvements to eink phones in the future to come :)
A7 screen seems mush sharper and clearer vs the CC. I wouldnt go for a color e-ink for smart phone, I want to see the screen clearly.
What is the battery life differences between the a7cc, the a7, and the a5cc pro?
I never knew we'd actually have E-ink PHONES which is pretty cool. I'd buy one for business use.
The only downside is the lack of google. Which for some is great, but for me not so much. This would really be the perfect phone for me if it wasn't for that.
If we could unlock the bootloader and sideload custom Roms that would be cool be unlikely
Recently I bought an A7CC. It's comfortable to eyes. But it's difficult to install Google apps, because this device doesn't have Google store.
Its screen is becoming a little bit yellow, I think the technology of Hisense isn't mature.
Hey how is it going? Where did you buy it and how much?. Do you use whatsapp and telegram, did you also watch this video on it?

do these phones work on the Verizon network?

This phone protect eyes completely? I´m very interested in this phone type

If i get one of these to use in the UK - will i be able to get a signal as well as the non chinese phones designed for our networks?

If they can get these with a good refresh rate (at least 30hz) it would be great for a phone screen.

Do A7 cc ( colored version) has option to make screen black and white? Or it is by default to have color screen only?
Was the whole video done with zero brightness?
What do you give up moving from a 'standard' LCD/OLED smartphone to this eink phone?

speed and less clarity
I was excited about this device and ready to purchase until I realized it doesn't support enough cellular frequencies to work properly in Canada. :(
