At some point when Up B's he either doesn't have a hurtbox or enters the Z Axis. I forgot to record an arena replay where DDD had his Gordo on ledge and Sora just Up B'd through it.
I find I endlessly defo hit sora but it just doesn't connect.
Like it goes through him. I find sora really hard to hit. My moves seem to just phase through him all the time. Wonder if this is partly why.

I agree with marss wanting people to use counter more but in shulk’s case his counter is so terrible.
Soras counter is almost what they seemed to try to do with shulks funnily enough

There's this crazy mod called Smash Ultimate Championship Edition where one of the changes is that they tried to make Shulk's counter replicate what it does in games. Instead of damaging the opponent, it reverses their last actions and makes them repeat it while the Shulk player has time to reposition and counterattack. It makes me wish it was like that in base Ultimate cause its sounds nuts
@@stixsis4656 It also sounds like it would be a mess for a number of reasons, especially taking into account playing with more than 2 players (1 on 1) in a game.
Hard to balance, hard to make work in the first place, prone to breaking and generally a source of many glitches/exploits, and easy to have too fast for the Shulk or abnormally slow for the pacing of the game. Those are just potential problems that I thought of on the fly, who knows what else could happen. Just sounds like a programming mess for a game like Ultimate, despite being a cool concept.

7:18 Surprisingly it isn't Z-Axis business, Sora's clown shoes just don't actually have a hurtbox. His hurtbox stops at his ankles.

Does it exist during dash attack? And what in $5.99 made them think that getting rid of his clown shoe hurtbox was a good idea?
@@KrisPChikin You probably found out by now but yes and no. There's no shoe hurtbox during dash attack, but near the later half of the move there's a hurtbox placed between his legs at shoe level so that you can still hit him there without Z-Axis issues. Because at that point his legs start to spread out a bunch out from the axis.
Clownshoes having no hurtbox through most of the active frames is part of why its so damn good.

Yeah being floaty and light could be the deciding factor of him not being top tier. Like you said tho he's still new and no one knows how to fully play him yet, but it goes both ways. We also don't know how to really play against him yet. So as players develop with Sora in the game could be what actually decides if he's top tier or not.
@@randallc522 How to play against Sora: Play a short character he can't cheese with shorthop/landing aerials. That's it. You just won the matchup.

And Meta Knight. Meta Knight has a stupid easy guaranteed ZtD combo on Sora he can only escape from if MK times his up airs wrong. Not to mention, MK had the absolute best off-stage game until Sora came along, and it's still debatable whose is better.
The only thing MK has to worry about is his playstyle. Normally MK likes to camp the air, but against Sora, you need to play a very grounded game.

A great trick to side B w Sora is just using the first dash and stopping. Excellent cross up tool to then go into a grab or combo.
Even better thats net me Ws in close games is Sonic Blade once under a platform it creates a tech situation. Read a tech or catch a missed tech with up smash its beautiful.

I like how whenever a player does very well with a character, that character gets the glory. Oh Sora must be amazing he won a major! No, Zachray one of the best players in the world won a major with Sora. Byleth must be top tier too! No, literally only the best player in the world is doing crazy things with her. Average smash player IQ = 70.
In this same tournament a Corrin/Byleth player almost got top 8, lmao. Top players don’t use characters without potential. Zackray wasn’t even projected to win this tournament. People should be skeptical of basing their thoughts on one major tournament result, but that doesn’t mean you should completely ignore it either
Zachray doesn’t run Japan, he can’t just roll up and win a MAJOR even the last kakgiri he didn’t win with his mains, clearly with the evidence provided Sora has SOME potential.

Sora is boring, jank and/or weird to play against. It's not hard but not fun cause he is wonky with bad stats. Yet he has the light/floaty problem where he doesn't die when he really should and the game chooses when Z Axis works

I mean a character that literally negates the game’s core mechanics (falling off stage) has to be top tier, that character is just impossible to edge guard, add on top of that the fact he can mash moves for free but that’s just ultimate being janky and mashy
