This is probably the most discussed sports documentary ever, it was released during the pandemic, when there was no live sports on, every sports talk show analyzed every episode like it was a finals game.

A general manager in American sports is the person in charge of hiring coaching, drafting and facilitating the team like trades and signing players. Probably the most intense job in North American soorts. You get a lot of the credit. But you also get a lot of the blame when things go south

12:48 that was actually a huge statement. Bobby Knight is one of the most legendary coaches of all time, he coached Jordan during the 1984 olympics before Michael became an NBA player and the fact that he said Michael Jordan was the greatest player he's ever seen play the game BEFORE before he ever even put on an NBA jersey is insane.

To answer your question about the greatest player to not be drafted 1st, the answer is Wayne Gretzky. He went undrafted because he played for a team in a different professional league called the WHA. The WHA then merged with the NHL and that’s how Gretzky came into the league.

The goat of not only basketball, but every sport and I don't care who disagrees. If you were around then and watching him play, you agree.
When this dropped at the beginning of the pandemic it was appointment viewing, every single week. I have seen it maybe 10 times and it never gets old. There truly will never be another athlete like MJ.
British guys trying to figure out distances between US cities/states is always funny. I live in a fairly small state and it's probably just a tad smaller than the UK 😂. Jordan was considered by many to be the greatest player of all-time while he was still playing with the Bulls. Just because that commentator said "possibly the greatest ever" was just him leaving the door open for debate. But most people considered him the best ever. It's incredibly rare for a player to be called the greatest ever while he's still playing, but that's how Jordan was seen.

  • @x-man9473

I'm a Chicagoan who hates the Chicago Bulls. This documentary heavily sums up why. MJ fooled everyone into thinking that the organization was competent.
    >The organization was founded in the 1960s. They haven't won a single champion (or even been to a finals) pre-or post-MJ. That is no coincidence. The organization was also struggling financially and was nearly 2/3 empty pre-MJ. They just finished missing the playoffs 3 straight years in a row before MJ joined the team.
    >MJ pops up.
-As a rookie, he starts selling out the stadiums every game and turns them into playoff contenders.
-He slowly works with the organization and coaches to turn them into champions.
-It took 7 years before they finally reached the top of the mountain. Before that, MJ spend year after year getting scrutinized by the media for not turning the Bulls into champions, despite the lack of star talent on his team.
    >Finally, MJ beats all odds.
    -He 3 peats 2x.
-Unlike most championship teams (which had stacked offense and great defense), the Bulls were a defensive oriented squad.
-No one outside of MJ, were elite offensively. So, they had to rely on defense, ball movement, and Jordan's heroics to win.
-They were also injury prone, and MJ had to continue to play entire seasons and heavy minutes to compensate for his teammates missing large stretches of games.
    >Even though MJ had to do more than other legends to win, the organization are the least appreciative of his leadership.
-His teammates complain left and right about how they want "more spotlight" on their roles.
-The general manager, Jerry Krause, literally breaks the team up because he's tired of "not getting enough credit" for their success.
They're toxic, incompetent, and ungrateful. And it explains why they haven't won anything before or after MJ joined.

Jordan retired three times in his 1984-2003 career.
He retired after the 1993 season because he wanted to play baseball to honor his father who had just been murdered. Jordan’s father loved baseball. Jordan came back to the Bulls in the 1995 playoffs where they would lose to the Orlando Magic.
He retired again after the 1998 finals. He came back to the NBA in the 2002 season and played with the Washington Wizards for two seasons.
He retired for the last and final time after the 2003 season.

LeBron will not be considered greater than Jordan because there will be others who will come after LeBron who will eclipse what LeBron has done.
There will be no one who will eclipse what Jordan has done. Jordan took the NBA from a national league to a global game. He launched Nike to
the global shoe brand it is now. He built one of the worst franchises in the NBA to the best franchise post the Bill Russell era Celtics. LeBron has
never come close to any of that. LeBron is a great player, but his narrative has been largely media generated. The problem with that is that as soon
as there is another great player, the media will change their narrative to accommodate that new player. There is a reason the narrative on MJ hasn't
changed so many decades after his retirement.

Certain sports you may be right Damo. But a blind monkey could have coached that team to at least the conference finals every year. Without Jordan, Pippen and Rodman that team goes nowhere and makes no money, no matter who is coaching them. Basketball is an extremely player driven sport. There are only 5 per team on the court at a time, their impact is magnified considerably from soccer/football etc. Even the great Phil Jackson didn't want to coach a team without at least 1 superstar. Because he knew they had no chance at winning.
