    It shoots just fine (for a Tok). I was confidently plugging the black at 25m with surplus ammo and the grip is extremely comfortable.

  • @amorembalming
    @amorembalming 7 лет назад +25

    As controversial as this may be I actually like the look of a standard Tok. The rubber grip only enhances it in my opinion.
    Thanks for this, enjoyed watching you work.

    • @thebotrchap
      @thebotrchap 7 лет назад +6

      amorembalming I like it too aside from the grip. In some way which seems to defy physics it is still a soft shooting gun despite the spicy surplus ammo. You can feel the slide lazily schlop back and forth with every shot.

      The round was designed for trench warfare. It might not drop a guy in one shot, but when you have ten guys lined up in a trench you'll probably hit two or three with every round, this pistol was designed as a backup for the ppsh "burp" gun. 72 rounds in about 3 seconds. So it did serve a special purpose. Might not be the best all around. But it did it's job well.

    • @mi777ke777
      @mi777ke777 3 года назад +4

      @@lakey253 Its actually an amazing pistol, but it gets a lot of hate from people who know nothing about them because of its looks. When you read the specs its basically a shooting a Five Seven round, but bigger and a little slower. I love mine. Fireballs, distinctive sound, smooth action, armor penetration they really check all the boxes

      This one is pre-WW2 (1937) so it doesn't rattle at all. The trigger has a LOT of vertical play though.

  • @AgamemnonTWC
    @AgamemnonTWC 7 лет назад +3

    Just another idea for a quick and dirty way to make the mags easier to remove - why not use that lanyard loop? Put some thin paracord, leather strip, or even strong wire through there, tie it, and yank it out to change. Seems easier and just as effective as the rubber spacers.

    • @thebotrchap
      @thebotrchap 7 лет назад +1

      Addressed in the comments further down. It works for extraction but for insertion a loop interferes because an unextended mag needs to be pushed up into the new grip, hence the addition of a mag extension in the first place. An extension AND a loop would of course be possible. I'm just a leisurely range plinker so I don't see the need to taktify it any further but feel free to knock yourself out 😬

    @patrickpost3269 7 лет назад +1

    Very cool idea! I have a question thought. Did you notice an improvement in comfort, and ease of shooting with the grips. I'm trying to decide if i should do this with my Romanian tokarev

    • @thebotrchap
      @thebotrchap 7 лет назад

      Yes, the comfort is great! The mod is reversible anyway. If you are just doing leisurely range shooting the mags don't even need modification, they will push up into the grip but are fiddly to get out again. A loop of cord through the mag bottom loop like a magpul can also be used.

    • @patrickpost3269
      @patrickpost3269 6 лет назад +2

      i accomplished the task using your instructions, but being Canadian i used a chunk of hockey puck for the mag extension. It turned out very well and shoots better too.

  • @simonferrer
    @simonferrer 7 лет назад +1

    I like this modification, Chap, and think you did a very good job. Do you think the soft grip extending past the frame of the gun will present any magazine feeding issues over time if the rubber warps? Looking at the project, it made me wonder if cutting a small channel in the rubber, inserting a shaped ring made of stiff wire and then sealing it in with JB Weld would work to reinforce the mouth of the mag well.

    • @thebotrchap
      @thebotrchap 7 лет назад

      The lower end of the grip is stiff enough not to cause any mag feed issues but then again I only do leisurely range shooting :-). The only relatively flimsy bit is the front lip, the sides and back are quite thick.

  • @CAPNMAC82
    @CAPNMAC82 7 лет назад

    Rather than JB Weld, which would have had some issues, I probably would have tried RTV rubber. The door stop winds up being probably better as it is not blue, putty, or red colored like most RTV are.

    • @thebotrchap

      Mike Morris Tried it and it worked but mag insertion is then awkward since you need to stuff it up inside the grip. I could still add one through the rubber extension since there is a hole in it that connects to the loop.

    Great video.
    I love Tokarev because of it’s high-speed 7,62/25 caliber, which has Significally more penetrating power, than 9 mm. Para.
    I have 1 origin. Tokarev and going to install rubber Yugo grip too.
    I have a question here:
    Why do not you just use yugo M57 9 round magazin in Tokarev?
    As I suggest, it should fit, and it is longer, so, you won’t need to mess with any dummy rubber stuff.
    Does M57 mag fit to russian Tokarev?

    • @thebotrchap
      @thebotrchap 6 лет назад

      George George Simply, we don’t have a big surplus market here so the chance of actually finding ‘57 mag is slim whereas Tok mags are easy to find. No idea about interchangeability.

    • @georgegeorge8553
      @georgegeorge8553 6 лет назад +1

      The Chap I have some stable gut feeling M57 should fit to Tokarev, because it is just 1 round longer.
      However, Tokarev mag. will not fit to Yugo M57, because it is simply shorter.
      I am going to start looking on ebay yugo mag.maybe I am lucky)
      thank you for the answer.
      So, searching process did not take long tie.
      I have found M57 mags for 30$ on ebay.
