Great 5 part series of how to clean a bike that is actually dirty! Unlike the hundreds of how to clean a clean bike vids that are around.
I've an 05 CBF600 that I recently bought which needs a really good clean and have found this series very helpful.

    Hi Flyn
Thanks for the feedback, if it's not too bad, use a nylon scrubbing pad as it won't damage the hard chrome coating. If it's bad you can use fine wet and dry paper. This will damage any coating on your forks and cause more rust in the future if you don't keep polishing them. Believe it or not race forks often have tiny abrasions in them on purpose, this allows oil molecules to sit in them and reduce stiction. So you can tell people that's why you've done it ;)
    Cheers
    Nick

I always set the nozzle just off full and take care not to point it directly at the chain, flaky paint or unlaquered stickers. Most domestic power washers aren't powerful to do any damage anyway, but there is no 'max pressure' just apply plenty of common sense to the job.
Cheers and thanks for your feedback,

great tutorials and advise about cleaning! thanks! i will give you one tip about electrical parts and connectors: i have learned once from a very skilled mechanic, to properly clean on any grease of corrosion of your eletrical contact. if you after cleaning, lubricate them with acid- free vaseline, the contacts will be protected from any kind of water comming in by rain or washing. it also conductives well so you wont get any problem with your elextrical components!

i'm a big fan of cleaning with WD40 too, I have an Enfield bullet and have no car license so ride all year round, every day.
I find it impracticle to clean my bike after every ride in the salt, so now I just give it a good 'all over' squirt with WD40.
Although it picks up a bit more road crud, it wipes off no problem come the spring and I have no corrosion.

    Great Job! Looks amazing!
I have a 99 VFR800 that I rescued from a 'Not a fan of cleaning it' previous owner. Just spent the last 4 months (due to a nerve injury, I have to work on it when I can) going over everything and detailing it. Looks brand new. -Sadly, before all this, I took it to an independent shop to have new tires put on. The intern (who had Never ridden a proper bike (only scooters) before in his life), was given the task of riding it to make sure all was well.. He came back and said it was good to go. I went to leave and the bike wouldn't move! Dumb bastards put the WHEEL ON BACKWARDS - Then, DROVE IT LIKE THAT!!! No joke... I ended up filming them putting the wheel back on properly so I had some proof of this Beyond absurd abortion of a job. They destroyed my brake discs in the process. They also not only nearly destroyed my rim in the process of putting the tire on using a hydraulic tire machine, but also tried to remove the front wheel, Forcefully, without realizing the linked front caliper needed to come off first. Complete nightmare which turned my near perfect rims into an etching of mount Everest.. -Needless to say I got most of my money back, but Honestly... And the icing on the cake: My first day out after completing it, some asshat opened his door into my side fairing when I was at the market. -From now on, I'm just going to ride through the isles. ...damn cagers. Anyway, Again, Kudos on the great job.
    Safe Travels :)

    Hi
If WD40 and a scrubbing brush doesn't work then nothing will, usually sprockets corrode over time so can't be cleaned. You'll just have to wait until you replace them to get a shiny one!

Well, Autoglym did very kindly send us a box of goodies, but we asked them because we use their stuff anyway so I guess that's fair. As for WD40, I just think it's ace and I use it for all sorts of stuff. We didn't ask them for anything but perhaps we should have done! When we showed Autoglym the DVD though they weren't best pleased about all the WD40 shots! Whoops, they haven't spoken to us since!

Hi Nick. Great videos for those who think a bucket and sponge will actually clean a bike! I also use WD40 for proper cleaning with trade sized aerosol tins - might consider the 5 lt cans instead, must be way cheaper. Used to use diesel as it cuts through oil based grime like a knife through butter, but had to give the habit up as my wife wouldn't let me back in the house.
Have you tried S1000 SDOC cleaner? If so how do you rate it - one thing for sure - its bl**dy expensive. Thanks, Simon

Nick, top job on the vids from a fellow cleaning freak! What's your view on ACF50 or FS365? Are they worth the extra cash? My concern with ACF is that although it claims it's not water soluble and stays on the bike, will I be removing it with the weekly wash? If this is the case I'd rather buy a cheaper product and apply it weekly. Also, it will cause me much pain to leave the bike caked in muck trying to convince myself the ACF is preventing any corrosion. Thanks mate, keep up the good work!

Hey great video's added to my bookmark bar. I have a 1985 CBX 750 that has never had a proper clean in its life (thats 26 years!) Although it has only done 37,000 miles it looks pretty bad although in great nic for its age (not showing off, just what I've been told I still think its pretty mankey,) what would be the best way to get the corrosion off the engine? it looks terrible. I'm planning a respray, so would be a good idea to clean it all at the same time.
