I'm about to buy my first bike, and this is by far the best video series I've watched. All the other videos were just a waste of time. These are clear, and actually pleasant to watch. The pointers are priceless. Cheers mate for the help!
Ty. I just want to make sure that no one makes the same mistakes that I made on my first purchase of a motorcycle. I'm really happy to know this is helping a lot of people.
You say, "Don't buy the bike if there is bluing on the pipes"?.. WFT? Bluing on the pipes is NORMAL... Maybe some of those double-walled pipes don't turn blue but if it's a single wall pipe it's going to turn blue or gold. My sport bikes have stainless steel headers and they turned a golden color with some bluing at the top... My dual-sport bike also has bluing at the top. All bikes were purchased new, all run great, and the pipes on all bikes changed color soon after buying and riding them.. It is perfectly normal for pipes to change color.... Pipes are HOT... As for riding a bike with a pipe near my leg,,,, I wouldn't want that even if the pipe wasn't turning blue...
I'm authentically curious why 38 people disliked this video. If you have or are about to dislike this video, please explain why. This guy is crazy in depth and informative. I can't imagine what he's missing.
omnitool I appreciate that. Some people didn't like the idea of showing up with a checklist but I haven't gotten alot of constructive criticism about what it is people don't like. It would be nice because then I could improve videos or at the very least have a public conversation so other viewers can get a different perspective.
Incredible.....this VLOG should be a must see for anyone considering buying a used bike. Priceless practical street sense with a very logical explanation for every point on the checklist. Great job and you are a master of instructions. Thanks
This video is just what I was looking for! The video is so useful and easy to understand. We are going used motorcycle shopping this weekend. It should be interesting to see the look on the seller's face when we pull out the checklist and really go over the bikes carefully. Thanks for taking the time to create this.
HI,,, I just watched all four videos,,, I haven't been on a bike in about 25 years, and I plan on getting back into it next season,,, I've been looking for instruction videos about buying a used bike, and yours are by far the best ones I've seen!!!! Most of the others show almost nothing, I'll be watching them a few more times just to make sure I memorize the details. Happy riding,,,
Enjoyed every moment of each of the three videos- great advice for every buyer regardless of their experience. The checklist is awesome and shows the seller that you are totally thorough.
I thank you! I had no idea past "Is it Shiny". Now I feel I stand a fighting chance at picking out my first bike alone. You are a 'God Sent' gift to us. I thank you!
Tiffany Zinman It's funny you said," I had no idea past "is it shiny" lol.. I couldn't help but laugh at that one because when I bought my first bike years ago it was with my eyes also ;) Shiny , sounded good, two weeks later crapola ;) I'm glad the videos have helped.
this is amazing, very nicely done! I have been really stressing about buying my first bike because I don't know what to check for--i'm glad I came across this.
This is a really good checklist of things to look for. I'm going to help a young friend buy his first used bike and this was helpful for even someone like myself whose been riding for 25 years :-).
I bought a 84 Goldwing, the odometer did not work, I was SO TIRED WHEN I GOT THERE, I had been up for 24 hours when I got there, I didn't even test ride it... having never ridden a street bike on the street and being so tired in a BIG CITY at 5pm. the bike started and ran well, didn't leak oil, didn't smoke, had no frame damage, paint was faded bad from sun, most of the gauges worked, needed tires, price was good. odometer showed 52,xxx. I have $2000 in it now, painted the tops of the saddlebags and fake gas tank with spray paint, looks better than it did, replaced tires, brake pads, changed gear oil in differential, he changed motor oil, it leaks a little from the oil filter, just enough to be a mess, I put a piece of plywood under it where I park it and ride it. starts first time every time. I checked the STATOR/charging system with volt meter 14.4v @ 2,200 rpms as 84-87 Goldwings have KNOWN stator issues that require motor removal to get to stator=$1500+ parts... or put a 88-93 geo metro alternator on the front of the motor with a "poor boy" kit (with pulley off of crankshaft and a couple of brackets under the Left fairing on the bike, a little work, but cheaper than pulling motor and really... the ONLY way to do it, 650 watts with Geo Metro alternator vs 330 watts with Goldwing Alternator that might last...2 year???). it is all in what the new owner can deal with, some things are ez to deal with, (brakes/tires/chain/throttle cables/brake cables...normal wear items) other items are EXPENSIVE MOTORS/transmissions are VITAL TO HAVE WORK RIGHT.
best video of this type on RUclips. thanks. will use your list for my inspection. one thing missing in the 3 vids is the test drive and what to assess there, e.g. wheel wobble at 50km/hr.
+David M I agree and that's a very legitimate point you bring up. I just need to save up for a GoPro so I can get that done. Wife only lets me buy so many toys :)
Thanks, really helpfully vid. I am a first time buyer and needed the basics covered. I am fairly mechanically inclined but just don't have the experience to know what to look for, time to put it to use.
Wow, one of the most comprehensive inspections I've ever seen. Great job, I love the way you present the info too. The tips on what to look for that would make you walk away or what's acceptable.
+grasso7200 hey I'm 16 years old and have my drivers license and am wanting to get a motorcycle license, but also I'm wondering where I can find a good cheap sport bike I don't know where to look.
+MerJ PerJ (MerJTheGhost) Craigslist is always my favorite spot. I usually buy 3-4 a year and just fix them up. The disadvantage to using craigslist is you have to drive out to see one at a time. If your 16 go check out a reputable bike shop in your area so you can see several different styles and brands in one trip:) Goodluck young gun and be safe.
Thank you for the tips.. addressed a lot of my concerns such as stolen bike and also more than I even expected to learn.. Bad bike seller nightmare video.. Thanks again
great super detailed overview! What do you suggest if you are looking to buy a bike that has fairings blocking the engine? Taking off the fairings can be a bit time consuming but you often can't get a good look at the engine with them on.
Thank-you so much for making this video. I live in the uk and am just about to step into the world of bikes. Been driving for 6 years so feel a bit like im doing this all backward as most of the people i know got bikes first and then started driving. Im really unsure about looking on e-bay or gumtree for a bike but i know i might get a better deal as all the dealerships i have looked at seem to be very expensive for what they are. This has really given me the reassurance and confidence i needed to protect myself that little bit better when going to a private seller.
Oooooh, the guy was amazed, he had a great bike with a great condition and it was neat.... I got a Honda VTX 1300 S 2005 with 39,000 Miles..... It's doing 45,000 miles now and it drives great and i was happy with the price i payed for... thanks again really, great effort
Great knowledge concisely delivered in a neat digestible summary Brilliant Teachings! Goes beyond bikes this is general understanding. Thank you sir very much for this video.
Nice helpful vid man, only thing I noticed is you were pointing at the clutch cable and called it the throttle cable. you should check both regardless, and it doesn't really matter. just thought you should know
Good point and you're right. I would have the seller remove them in advance when you guys have an appt to meet . It's really important to check the plug and make sure no oil leaks are present on the engine. -Joey
Thank you so much for putting your time into this video. I am currently searching for my first bike so hopefully I can keep my excitement down and Remember these things... Does anyone have any other tips for a newbie like me? Or any other helpful videos? I am looking into getting a duel sport
Great video looking to buy a bike soon, so naturally I started to research on how to inspect and buy a used motorcycle. Also would like to know where I can obtain an inspection sheet. Thanks
Nice video. Very good detail overall. On the plug review I'd like you to add one more thing, a clean good plug. Also, don't hesitate to show more pics of what bad looks like(i.e shocks, welds, bearing wobble, brakes etc.). Thanks again for doing this.
Grasso 7200, WOW that comment from Patty Cow is shocking to say the least! I have watched your videos, and recommended other to watch as well. They are very good, and your honesty comes through. Thanks for posting.
AWESOME video!!! Incredible information here. Many things I would never have thought to checkout on a bike. Keep these videos coming!!! How do I get this checklist?
What year and model is that Honda Shadow? (Spirit, ACE, whatever) Looks beautiful. I've been looking at a bunch of motorcycles (used, old old models because I'm cheap a.f., indecisive and a first-time buyer and rider) and I was wondering if, as a 6'2" guy, a Shadow would be alright for me?
This is very helpful, being this will be my first purchase and I don't want to spend too much initially. This Honda Shadow is at least similar to the bike I will be buying, i.e. Suzuki Boulevard, Kawasaki Vulcan, etc.
Thanks a lot, recently I bougth an used motorcycle ( Triumph St 1050 05 model) and it was previos to see your video, the bike has been down but just a litle damage. I will check your video and make my own check list. Gretings from Mexico
Thanks man that was a lot of help my friend let me borrow his bike to practice was going to borrow it thanks a lot of problems runs good but like you said don't buy a new excitement and I was about to thanks for your help what else do I need to know please let me know first time buying a bike for me and my wife every help would be the best
Great video!!! I almost got a bike on excitement, luckily the guy was a flake. Glad you put emphasis on that. Another good tip I thought, is know what you want. I got an enduro bike thinking it would be awesome to be able to off road also. I didnt realize i would compromise seat comfort, making it unpleasant for long distant trips. I also dont want to take my nice new bike in the mud and put more wear and tear on it.
I have a link below the video for the checklist. It's an automatic download. As for the VTX 1300... Well, it's a bad ass bike but may be too much power for a first time rider.. When you sit on the bike lean it to the left and right.. See if it's too heavy.. The power of a large bike can literally throw you right off the motorcycle.. Remember you can always go up in power so start small and get comfortable with the machine..I wouldn't recommend anything over 750cc if you're new to riding...
Thanks for the video I wish I could have watch it years before I purchase my bike. In my opinion I'd rather save extra money to get myself a new bike. For someone that has ability to fix their own bike this is perfect video but for newbies I have no idea and they take their bikes to the shops good luck! I personally love the feeling of knowing that I am the first owner but this comes with a price which I don't mind. Like I said it's my opinion. This is a really simple subject but a really hard to answer every single motorcycle rider. The bottom point is to have respect for the motorcycle. My first motorcycle was a 2001 r6 and I had never dropped it but I don't consider myself an unsafe driver. The first time I was really close on dropping my bike was on a red light where I stepped on gravel and grease.

This video is awesome I come back to it every time I buy a new bike. Great pointers and allowed me to buy very solid vehicles. Thanks for making this.
Great video! The most comprehensive on buying a motorcycle I have seen!
Enjoyed every moment of each of the three videos- great advice for every buyer regardless of their experience. The checklist is awesome and shows the seller that you are totally thorough.
Nice job with this. You covered several things that I would never have known to look for.
Lists are good. Repeatable, complete and you can make continuous improvements.
Best moto buying video out there, thanks for your time and attention!

Awesome videos I learned a lot and not only what to look for but why. Great list
Great video. Regardless of whether you're a first time buyer or an experienced buyer. Thank you.
Thanks, your inspection videos are awesome, They have gave me confidence to look at bikes without my experienced brother.
Very helpful video for people new to motorcycles. Checklist very helpful.
Thank you for the videos, preparing to buy my first bike this month and have been looking for a list like this!

Really great video to help folks on buying a bike.
Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for a detailed approach to protect myself in the purchase.
This is what i need since I'm looking for a first bike now (Honda CB500X).

Awesome video. I am about to buy a used bike and this video really helped me. Thanks

Thanks for your detailed presentation systematically. I like it.
I bought this last week. AWESOME!!!!
Great video! Thank you so much. I am so much more confident going to purchase my first bike. Would love the inspection sheet, thank you.
Good points to check. Some I never would have thought of. My opinion the top three sound like the deal makers or breakers.
Very helpful for future shopping and negotiating!

Great video. Very clear and concise. Thank you!

Excellent Video, very informative and thorough
Great job!! Very informative and helpful. Thanks so much.
Thanks this is very helpful, especially for a new rider.
Thanks for the tips. Can't wait to use the list.

great vid man :) I am buying my first motorcycle soon and i would love to take a look at the check-off form
Great video. I'm currently looking to buy a new ride and this will be a great help. Please let me know where I can get that checklist.
Very helpful thank you! Now on to part 2 !
Very informative along with a great explanation. Thank you.
Very informative, liked the idea of finding information.
Well, it's a bad ass bike but may be too much power for a first time rider.. very clear and concise video. great and very helpful info.
Alright you got me, I want the checklist.
Really good and thorough points. Sadly I cannot access the inspection checklist.
Can you make a video on what checks to do while you are on a test drive?
This is no fantasy That's a really good idea. I will definitely do that when I make another one.
I am a first time buyer from the UK and could do with a copy of that checklist, I have left a like on this video and would be super happy if you could help me out. Thank you for an awesome video it has certainly given me an insight onto what to look for and what to walk away from.
good job on the overview. Well explained. Thank you
Thanks for the super helpful video! Very clear and informative :)
This is a fantastic resource. Thank you, Grasso7200.
