Thanks for the video. And which step did you tighten the camshaft bolts to the camshaft gears? Was it while the crankshaft locking bolt and camshaft holding tool was still in and the chain tensioner pin had been pulled? Cheers

Good morning, ask. At the tip of the crankshaft, apart from the sprocket with the teeth where the distribution chain goes, the cylindrical casauillo with its oring internally, the timing belt and the pulley for the accessory belt. DOES IT HAVE 2 WASHERS? When disassembling I did not realize and I only have 2 washers but they are equal to each other, but the detail is that the external dianeting of the washer is the same as that of the cylindrical bushing, but the internal diameter is larger than the diameter of the tip of the crankshaft remaining with clearance. In one part of the manual there is a breakdown and it does not include the 2 washers and in another part of the manual there is a breakdown with the 2 washers but these are 2 washers of different sizes from each other, and the title is written as "repair kit "This washer is diamond coated

nice video, am planning on doing this myself next week with the same FAI timing kit. couple of questions: did you have to drain the coolant for this job and if so how easy is it to refill and bleed the system? also do you know what type and size of socket you need for turning the crankshaft? thanks
Coolant has to be drained (you'll remove the water pump to access 2 allen key bolts). Be careful tho, I managed to kill one of the torx screws (since I didn't have any torq T wrench I just used a ratchet and socket). This happened due to being angled on the bolt because of the ratchet I used. Another piece of advice. The lower coolant hose attached to oil pan on the chain side will NOT drain all of it, once you unscrew the waterpump, the rest will flow out. With a good OBD device you can start a bleeding procedure, or you can do it the old school way: turn up the heater and let your engine idle for a while, you'll see the level dropping in no time. it's a multisocket 21mm for the crankshaft, follow the video every step. At first I thought the crankshaft locking pin was locking the crankshaft at TDC, but this is not the case (for me at least), this pin is only used to remove the crankshaft pulley.
@slimegremlin2304 Thanks for the comment. I didn’t drain the coolant, just took the pipe of the radiator at 2:39 and that’s all the coolant that came out and just topped it up at the end. I done this some time ago so I think the socket for the crank was 19mm (12point) but @M4ddTr4xx mentioned in the comments it’s 21mm so not 100% sure.
Quick question, did you drain both the power steering fluid and the coolant before disconnecting those reservoirs? couldn't you technically just unscrew them and move them out of the way? Or is that wishful thinking?
You don’t need to drain the power steering fluid and for the coolant just remove the coolant pipes out of the way (some coolant wil come out, just top it up when done)

@trekker6981 At last! I've watched several videos on this timing chain replacement and you're the first I've read who actually mentions this. I assume it is like putting just a new chain on old bike sprockets which was always a no-no to me. seems i will be replacing oil pump chain at the same time as that adage works other way round.

@iAutoTech thank you last question; to get tdc, should the crank hit the locking bolt 🔩 when you rotate clockwise, or you get tdc before the crank hits the locking bolt 🔩?
Hey! I have a question. What was the code for the entire KIT? I've seen that you replaced it with a kit from FAI and I've found this code, is it the same that you used? FAI Kit: TCK211VVT

@iAutoTech won't be doing that. I had a golf same engine twincharged in 2017, took it to a local mechanic for similar work and the crankshaft pulley fell off while driving some while later. Wrecked the car. Will just look for a reputable place. How much do you think I should be charged for whole chain kit replacement including labour, ball park?
That's true. He also doesn't show if he changed the crankshaft seal on the timing lid. It's recommended to do that to avoid future oil leaks from there.
When as an manufacturer design your engine with chain for timing you do it in purpose not to be changed. In other case you put belt and you change it easily

Am o mica problemă, cand plec de pe loc parca se îngâtuie puțin, se poate regla cumva ?
Why was the camshaft pulleys moving even though they are locked by locking tool ?
It’s free spinning pulleys.
How many hours approximately? To remove and install the timing chain we need the complete kit, without water pump.
I would say roughly around 5/6hours that’s with the sump removal and replacing the bottom crack sprocket.
@@iAutoTech Thank you so much
Which brand is the first installation of the chain?
Why couldn't they make this chain last forever ?
What happens if you don't change it ?
Great video! How long would you say this takes from start to finish?
Think it was 5/6 hours
@@iAutoTech Okay, thank you!
I would be so grateful if you could let me know how long the change took uncut?
It was around 5 hours
@@iAutoTech Thank you very much!
Nice video. How many Km did the car have?
Thank you, around 50k miles
My touran 2008. 1.4 tsi. Is running not great and putting fuel in threw oil could this be the timming off
Was ist mit dem Zahnrad auf der Kurbelwelle ? Hat das kein Verschleiß?
You can lift the car with the oil pan??
No mate
Brilliant video, I'm thinking of doing this myself, I was wondering if you changed the crankshaft gear?
Also may I ask if you have a link to the parts kit used, thank you
Thanks John. No I didn’t change the crankshaft gear.

@@iAutoTech thank you appreciate the reply
This is just so beautiful 😍
very helpful video bud, how long did this roughly take
Thank you. It took around 5hours to do.
What was the mileage on the car. Excellent vid thanks
Thank you. Mileage was around 50k
Are the tightening torques indicated in the manual if I buy the kit ?
I don’t think so from what I remember. I used Haynes Manual
Puoi indicarmelo con qualche link o qualcosa ? Per favore
Poi, sono davvero così fondamentali ? Se serro bene a mano e basta faccio danni? Grazie
I can tell you from my own experience that the timing chain will last a maximum of 15 thousand kilometers if the pinion on the crankshaft is not replaced. Otherwise a great video. Best regards from Germany.
Thank you for the feedback.
Ist mir auch aufgefallen. Für mich ist das mehr Pfusch wie er gearbeitet hat
Hi I'm looking at doing this and replacing everything, chain, tensioner, guides, vvt, crank gear and exhaust valve gear. Is there any advice you have regarding doing this job? I'm thinking of removing the sump as a precaution for cleaning as I hear the oil pickup can get clogged sometimes
Thanks
@trekker6981 At last! I've watched several videos on this timing chain replacement and you're the first I've read who actually mentions this. I assume it is like putting just a new chain on old bike sprockets which was always a no-no to me. seems i will be replacing oil pump chain at the same time as that adage works other way round.
Hello guys, can u tell me where that pinion is located on the video? Thank You!
Very good video. When u started the engine after timing chain replacement, the engine still rattled. Is that normal..?
Thank you, the noise is normal when I started the car, it went quite as the oil got around the new chain and tensioner.
the tightening of the gears on the camshafts is not shown in the video. how much torque is required for this.
Tighten the inlet camshaft (40Nm)
Tighten the exhaust (50Nm)
Then check timing and if the timing is correct then tighten (90°) for both pulleys.
This info I got from Haynes manual.
@AutiTech like this chain :) its like BMY 1.4 TSI change ? steps like this-?
Any advice it's rattling a bit sometimes on startup and sometimes it randomly rattles for 1-2 seconds even if the engine is warm
It could be a stretched chain as this one did it sometimes on startup for couple of seconds.
Is it possible to do this without a dial gauge? Using only the cam lock & crank tool
Yes you can use a screwdriver to check the piston is at TDC
@iAutoTech thank you last question; to get tdc, should the crank hit the locking bolt 🔩 when you rotate clockwise, or you get tdc before the crank hits the locking bolt 🔩?
@@louwscustomszaShould get TDC when the crank tool hits. I would Add a gauge/screwdriver just so I know it’s at TDC.
@iAutoTech did the same process twice. At first, i thought my timing wasn't ryt then re-did the timing, but the car still cranks only no start
The chain or gears of the shafts have some time position
Very good job. Where are you from brother?
Thank you STROE, I’m based in Birmingham..
Best video
Meilleure video
Bravo
Pourquoi ?
I’m confused I have the exact same engine replaced the timing chain and it still makes the same noise
Camshaft gears were replaced but not the cranckshaft one, this might work but it's not the best solution. Also, there is no torque tightening at all.
@Vintaginside Thanks for the feed back 👍
Hey! I have a question. What was the code for the entire KIT? I've seen that you replaced it with a kit from FAI and I've found this code, is it the same that you used? FAI Kit: TCK211VVT
Hi sorry it’s been a while now since this was done so I don’t really remember. If it helps the kit was from euro car parts.
@iAutoTech thanks for the reply!
Did you follow the repair manual for torque specs?
Only for the cam pulley bolts.
Hi.. 🙂.. Trying to help a friend of mine, with this exact procedure.. though..he bought the car as a "non-runner"..😑.. sounds like the engine has no compression.. timing-chain is stretched though.. any ideas? Will remove sump,to check oil-pump.. Btw.. what kit did you use? Both the tool-kit,and the timing-kit..🙂
Hi, I would check compression and timing first before removing anything.

Have a look on Amazon or eBay, got mine from ebay
I have a VW touran 1.4 tsi cvac engine which rumbles on start, on 114 k miles, i may need chain and associated parts changed very soon. Would you be open to doing it? Im based in Bham, if not who could you point me to?
Sorry I’m not taking on any work at the moment. Just try your local garage.
@@hnc9costs wise it depends on the garage labour rate per hour. This job will take no more then 6hours and this timing chain kit was £300.
what company did you install the spare parts from?
Euro Car Parts
guys after how many km should a timing kid be changed?
120k km or something depends tsi engines 2009 till 2012 maby efter 60k km depends if you do al your services
HOW MANY HOURS DID YOU DO IT? FRIEND!

Sorry can’t tel by looking at the image
good video for your working
Cuantos km tenia esa cadena?????
Around 50k
Aftet how much km ? Chain should be changed ?
It’s advised to be replaced around 100k-120k miles.
53:26 There should be oil with the vw 504/507 standard.
That's true. He also doesn't show if he changed the crankshaft seal on the timing lid. It's recommended to do that to avoid future oil leaks from there.
I smell a real Mechanic right there....this is not diy-er :)
But excellent Job after all!
Great video, thank you very much....

Good work 👍
thank you
Super.

He didn’t show how to thigh the camshaft gears but incredible video
When as an manufacturer design your engine with chain for timing you do it in purpose not to be changed. In other case you put belt and you change it easily
Good work
