Finally, Lindsay covered both the Medici queens of France. Please make a video series about the Queen Consorts of France just like the Queen Consorts of England Series ❤️🙏
Been playing Assassin's creed II, and rewatching The Medici. I swear each generation of the family was like, yeah the past was wild but I can got further
I read many times that the king Louis XIII had issues in his relationship with his wife but never read that they got forced to consummate at 13, poor teenagers, they barely reached puberty at that age, no wonder they were repulsed
Especially frustrating since there was a way around that. There was a royal marriage (I forget who it was) that was done by proxy (as was custom) but there was some debate over consummation (which was what made a marriage legitimate). They come up with a solution where the proxy groom and bride were laid in bed with their feet visible to the witnesses (there were witnesses to ensure marriages were consummated back then, yeah, gross, I know). The groom's foot then touched the bride's and that was considered good enough.
Please don't endorse the myth that corsets were uncomfortable or torture devices. When properly made and designed for the wearer, they gave excellent support, much better than modern bras. Other than that, I enjoyed the video.
“Over a rigid corset” no it was actually pretty flexible, and wouldn’t squish your ribs. And as someone currently watching this *in a corset* it isn’t restricting or uncomfortable as I sit here at my desk. Granted this was made specifically for me, but thats how Marie’s *Stays* would be too- Specially made for her. In fact even poor women in *stays* would have had it fashioned for their body types. The only reason this dumb myth is continued is because movies refuse to get their actresses proper corsets leading to actresses complaining, and now we’ve got history channels telling us it while trying to sell modern day clothes. I friggin hate how corsets are being relegated to torture devices when they’re anything but, especially by a channel meant to give us facts about history…
Besides which, it would be essentially impossible to tightlace in stays anyways - they had hand sewn eyelets, which would rip if you tried to lace down too tightly. Tightlacing didn't become possible until the mid-1800s with the addition of the metal grommet
Ugh, yes! I got into an argument with another woman who is a historical reenactor today about the matter (she was complaining about how hers were uncomfortable) and when I asked who did her corset, she said "a former Hollywood seamstress who made sure they were historically accurate" and I said "That explains it."
I always hated it when historical movies and tv shows had them being yanked hard with arms and legs to make them extra tight, that would likely be a health hazard and is not as funny or critical of anachronistic clothes as the creators it is!
"put it about that she had died of a heart attack" Given that heart attacks weren't known to exist until the 19th century, I suspect you've got ahold of a bad translation. Also, corsets couldn't be tightly laced until the invention of the metal grommet in the 19th century.
I love how confident you are in the ad. I would not be that confortable in my own body to do that. You look awesome. (Note: You are much more fit than I am)

You are totally correct. Metal eyelets were rolled out in Europe in the late 1820’s which was what made tight lacing even possible.
And people forget about padding, add some hips and you don’t need to pull in the waist.
I still think modern sportswear is more comfortable.
