I just found this channel looking for pointers before tackling the brakes on my Accord. What a refreshing channel this is! No BS, stupid graphics, useless intro, or pointless background music. Just each step explained in detail with various pitfalls pointed out, and a description of what tools are being used. Great job!
Thank u! Yup I keep it 100% real
Give this man a medal, he deserves it for being the only one to mention you need to TURN the calliper piston and not just push it in with a c-clamp (it won’t move)
This where I’m at!!! It don’t move!! Fuuuuuuck!! I’m stuck
Hey RB, nice video - very helpful for those of us who change brakes every few years! A couple of notes: That rotor screw is a Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS V1012) screw, NOT a Philips head screw. The JIS is shallower than a Phillips, so the result is that a Phillips driver won't give you as much surface contact while trying to remove the screw. The specs are slightly different so if you're buying the right tool for the job (recommended), go with the JIS bit for your impact screwdriver. (And DEFINITELY don't try removing that rusty, baked-on rotor screw with a regular Phillips head screwdriver!) Otherwise, you could easily find yourself having to drill out the stripped rotor screw - which is doable, but not fun! Second tip: As you alluded to in the video, I'd avoid using WD40 (petroleum-based lubricant) on rubber boot, because petroleum degrades rubber over time. Instead, use a silicone-based lube (e.g., Sil-Glide). Lastly, years ago I bought a "Lisle 28600 Disc Brake Piston Tool " from Autozone instead of the professional-grade tool shown in the video. A similar cube can be bought at Walmart for about $6 and does the trick. (I Googled this to remember what it was called - there are other options.) Thanks again - appreciate you!
Ok thank you
A sincere thanks for your help with this. The extra long ratcheting wrench and punch screwdriver were life and aggrevation savers. There is a little cube tool you can use to conpess the pistons in this screwdown setting. Works with your ratchet. Easier than crowbar .
Bro you a boss easy to follow very little people make sence like you
Thank you 🙏🏻 yup tried my best so u can follow the videos and do it urself
Exactly what I needed, first time working with this type of caliper. The bad news is that I don't have that tool to push Caliper back.
Here’s a video no special tool required ruclips.net/video/IumyjGHUVhQ/видео.htmlsi=Y-5mg8g0y8YcRho4
@@RBTheMechanic Thanks again.
Excellent video! I followed your steps to do the rear brakes on my 2016 Accord.
Thank you!!!
Nice no problem!!!
Such a good video. Good lighting, clear instructions. My favorite is when you say “you gotta get this little guy..”
Lol yeah
That's exactly what I was looking for - how to retract the piston. Thank you, you rock!
Welcome
Excellent job very clear and thorough work changing those brake pads I'm having mine done tomorrow at the Dealer and I wanted a first hand look at what they will be doing. Thx u
👍 yup
Thx for sharing. I came to learn how to reset the caliper piston. Knowing that it has to be rotated back to reset its home position was the ticket for me.
Again, thx for sharing.
You're welcome!
I love how candid and real you are, and I can tell by your muscle memory that you are a master mechanic. Wish you had more subscribers because you’re the man.
Gabriel Tatasciore thanks bro I will get up there I keep it real and simple I also have another channel ruclips.net/channel/UCvqsPzqAZfVv_gjBYUFqNdg
you can use a large screwdriver on the piston to re-seat it. I mean one about three feet long. I dont this for years. Great video !!
Thank you for these videos! Really helpful
Yup many people are able to do it then selves and save handful of money!!
Very helpful. Thank you.
Thank you so much for excellent video.. you made it so easy to do it yourself!
It’s easy just I do it every day so I know exactly tools and all but take ur time if ur doing it the key is to do it slow and nice
like the video... just recommend spraying with brake cleaner so no fine brake dust (abestos) in air especially when you "blow" on it to clean it off so you are breathing it in
Yup mask and glasses is must I wear them all the time but started the practice late lol but safty first
I always regardless of age of the components, remove, clean and regrease the slide pins & replace the slide pin boots. Do it all at once, it may save money down the road or keep a caliper from locking up. Up here in the rust belt frozen caliper slide pins are no joke
Thanks, you make it very easy to understand
You are welcome!
I've struggled to open the caliper before watched this video. Other video that I've watched didn't show to remove the brake line bolt, which is why I am having hard time. But this video show exactly what I've missed.
Nice I’m glad ur tacking the job urself and saving money thank you for good commitment!! Msg me for anymore information I will get back in a day or so
This Little Guy really enjoyed your Video... Thanks 😊
Thank you
Very well done! Thanks for the instruction and video......
You are welcome!
Good stuff bro
Great content very helpful!!
Yup will help many many viewers
Thank you for the video. It really helped. I appreciate it. Thanks
Welcome
I love this guy! Very nice 💥🤙🛠
Thx, u made it so easy bro, u are cool just like the FONZ 👍😎👍
Hehe yup easy peazy
Awesome video brother! On vacation in the Midwest , gotta change my rear breaks before heading back East, really helpful buddy, thanks for taking the time to educate!!
Excellent
That tool your using to remove the screws that hold the rotors are 100% unnecessary, just simply put back the lug nuts where the screw is tighten them down and the rotor screws comes out like butter.
Yo is this real?? Unbelievable
Ima try because those screws are the death of me
Idk if you’ll ever see this but thank you for this comment saved me money and time , fucking amazing . 100% true and would recommend this
@@IEE210I’m doing them tomorrow, can you please explain? So you put one lug nut on the stud closest to the screw and just tighten it down ?
@@mikeyc3726 basically , I put 1 on each side . The force of the lug nuts releases the pressure on the screw
Thank you good man
Welcome!!
just thumbed up by the way you talk, like narrating a sports game. LOL. Loved it.
Thank u
Great vid. One thing is those spring V shape things that come with brake pads weren’t installed. Just an observation.
Thank you.
myyube81 no problem please subscribe also subscribe to my other channel here’s a link ruclips.net/channel/UCvqsPzqAZfVv_gjBYUFqNdg
Thanks guy. Easy strait to the point. Not a lot of bs talking. I have to do a 2013 Honda Accord, and it should be the same. this is where I learn how to work on different cars. Again thanks for the video.
Yup should be easy
@@RBTheMechanic is is the same for the front rotors ?
@@abraham3231 bit diffrent by idea is same
What torque spec do the bolts need??? Can I just tighten them???
Great video! Question: How will you be able to torque the 17mm bolts with no clearance for a socket?
Same question I had :/
You put them on hand tight and they stay just fine. There is a torque spec, however and a proper tool. It’s called a J shank interchangeable head torque wrench. Look it up kids. It is quite literally a torque “wrench” as in open ended style wrench. The one I use it adjustable from like 5-100 lb ft.
I change my Honda 2015 rear break, and I done that so I put tire back everything perfect but now when I try to apply e brake that’s like loose not work what I have to do bro
on cars with ABS, is it okay to compress the piston without opening the bleed port? I was told if you dont it screws up the one way check valves in the brake system.
No no issues
I have two questions great great video! Can you drop the torque specs and should you bleed the brake line when done?
Do ur brake bleeding and brake fluid flush regularly don’t mix up the brake job and bleeding at same time if ur doing brakes and rotors no need to bleed … what year make model u have I can send u torque specs
@@RBTheMechanic Thanks for showing the way family. Also wanted your take on what brand ? I have a 2015 Accord LX
@@bernardb780 I use akebono pads and rotor is nothing special or u can search up some reviews on rotors
You can also retract the piston with a clamp.
No not that way read caljper u have to push and twist
Nice video. What punch tool is that?
Snap on
Question those 12 bolts only need hand tight right or am I thinking about the 17 mm. Which ones are the ones only require hand tight
U can torque then all
Would love to this for the 2018 up models
I have on 2018 and up

Do you recommend having the parking brake set to help in holding the rotor to release the rotor screws?
No watch me newer videos I got a trick on how to take out that screw like butter
I think I show it in this video here’s the link ruclips.net/video/EEEkIPrzqrg/видео.html
@@RBTheMechanic Hi RB, no, it's not in the video link above. Is the concern with setting the rear parking brake to help remove the rotor screws that it'll affect the brake lines? I have a 2014 Honda Accord by the way.
@@lji2000 ok here’s another one I checked this one I do show in this video ruclips.net/video/FHDBSo-i0FE/видео.html. I never used that trick put the ebrake on
@@lji2000 try the trick the thing comes off very easy
So need rotors, pads, caliper hardware kit (clips), hand impact driver with phillips head (not sure size), caliper service kit (to compress caliper) long 17 mm, 12 mm, torque wrench for the 17 mm (not sure poundage) WD 40.. what else?
That’s about it
Nice explanation but you forgot to lube the caliper holder slider .
Ok sorry
Brother you got a link for the tool? Tryna see if I can get it on Amazon
I don’t have link for this one I got it off Amazon u can find ur at autozone diffrent brand
How much is average cost for this rare break job?
What's the brake caliper tools that you used called? I want that one
It’s snap on kit
Hey bro, I do a lot of work on my car thanks to your videos. I recently replaced rear pads breaks and rotors and everything went great. but as soon as I went on the high way , my car started to vibrate after 60 mph. I got the tired balances and aligned at the shop but it still vibrates. When I break is fine no vibration or noise. I feel like it had to be me because car was fine prior to doing beaks but I don’t know. Thank you in advance
Ok we’ll wheel weights can fall off or was bad balance check ur front end also for any plays
👍👌
What if you don’t have the tool for the cylinder to rotate it back into place.. is there a method without special tools?
U can use pry or big fat flat heat turn it and push at the same time i think I have a video on how to without special tool if I find it I’ll send u a link
Here u go I show in This video ruclips.net/video/j6VGhm7OE5A/видео.html
I think you need to change the year range. I have a 2014 Accord. My Accord don't have the same type brake system. Your piston is diffrent than mine. I didn't need to remove the brake line hose first.
Thabks
one other thing. What is the name of the tool you used to get the screws out?
It’s call punch. But u don’t need it I have video on how to remove it more easier and better just type in how to remove rotor screw rb the mechanic. It will pop up
You can buy one at your local auto parts store...about 15 bucks
The rotor retaining screws are JIS, Japanese Industry Standard screws, you have to get the right tool or you'll strip the shit out of them! 🙂
Yeah I hate them
Came here to see if Honda still used the dumb twist in rear E brake setup on the newer Accords before I do a brake job for a girl and sure enough it seems they do. I wish everyone would just use the rear drum style with a regular push in caliper piston.
Can you use something else to retract the piston.
I have other videos I use pry bar turning the piston and pushing it in here’s that video ruclips.net/video/IumyjGHUVhQ/видео.htmlsi=EZk8mppyrknaURsf
I havea 2014 Honda Accord every time I change all pads and rotors it only takes a little while for it to feel like my brakes are not catching sometimes it feels smooth and tha. Others it feels like it's braking I. To nothing as if my brakes already word down, could this be the master cylinder. I'm in my 3-4 brake pads and rotors and still.having this issue
Didn’t understand u said somthing about catching and then u said u went through too many brakes and rotors r ur brake finishing too quick
@@RBTheMechanic when I say not catching it's like it's grinding on something and when. I said went through a number of brake pads and rotors meaning the new parts shouldn't be doing that. For example the new parts were put on a month ago and already feel like they are worn out
@@ygbodybuilder3023 well from what ur saying it might be somthing touching. If master cylinder was bad the peddle will go all the way down brake will not apply and it will happne out of no where
Is it the same process for the front set?
Front it diffrent kinda easier caliper compress right in
Is it true the screws aren’t really needed?? I’ve heard from many factory workers that they are in place for when the car is on the assembly line
Yeah they don’t have any use but to old rotor in place when working on it
@@RBTheMechanic thanks!!
@@PLATINUM2U welcome
Yo the guy that did my brakes broke the screws on my rotor both sides and put them back without the screws 🤦♂️and said it would be fine and tbh I don’t think it should be fine without screws can someone plz tell me that the screws are very important to put on the rotors
Keeping it real! Those little screws r disaster and many other cars don’t use it all it dose is hold rotor in place for u to assemble the caliper brakes smoothly so ur choice if u want them put on
What’s the torque specs for the 12 and 17. Thanks
I have to check on my system
Should grease be added to the inside of the bracket where the pads slide back and forth.
Yes
What’s the name of the punch driver tool? That’s a sweet tool I must own! Lol
I found it not to be worth it it’s called screw punch driver this one is snap on. I have better method check out my other brake videos I do show how to remove that screw no driver needed hammer only super easy
The cabron who did the first job on those rear side. WTF I just did mines and i figured out how to do it the correct way. And thank you buddy for your videos and to be honest to you I come by once every other day to remind myself how to do it. Great videos and one question for you. Yesterday I did my front breaks but I forgot to put loctite on bracket bolt. Do I need to do it or is fine just put it back on just with out ?
No I never use lock tite as long as they r tight or torque ur good
At least you could have mention the torque value
New videos I do
The rotor wouldn’t turn if u apply the hand brakes
Little guys all over da place😂🤣😂🤣
If you r feeling warped then know they put on wrong sized rotors on your accord sport etc
RBBBBBB! 2:05mins, does it matter if the brake pads indicator is on top or bottom? Would it matter ? I think I installed mine with the indicator on top. But it sits flush and I see no problem, hope you can see this message ..
Shouldn’t be problem it will make diffrent more noise when brakes r down to minimum so it’s notnissue
@@RBTheMechanic oh man thank you so much brotha, keep rocking this channel, I’m a fan brotha!! More power to ya! Been learning a lot! Can’t wait to see your next coming vids!!!
@@drewprotacio2770 thank you!
I thought wd 40 was a solvent. Won’t that eat through the boot eventually??
It’s gone as job was finish if this would be that bad then imagine rain water
what is the name of the first tool you use for the scree of the rottors??
I use hammer and screw drive but the tool is punch

Where the rust? Is this car one week old?! Not a Minnesota car!
Dan R up both nj prolly garage kept !!!! We have rust out here but I gues the owner kept it garaged
Little guy
Didn't like this version of how to change brake pads because you went way too fast, didn't show us how to remove and install the "clip" also I have no idea which brake pad goes in what side. Y simply didn't take the time to show a first timer doing this. You also forgot to grease the brake pads.
Sorry my friend I will do better next time
The speed was perfect
99% greea video, grrat advises.
But wd40 on rubber ?!?!? This is 100% damage in max 2 months. Wd40 is not compatible with rubber.
Replace it with Siliconic WD40 wich is the good solution.
I will look in to that and reniform everyone with newer video
You're not in the rust belt
Nope not so bad
