For those of us looking for the torque specs, here they are: - Front Bracket mount bolts: 80 lb-ft (2013-2016) (These are the 17 mm bolts going to the wheel hub) - Front Caliper bolts: 37 lb-ft (2013 - 2015 Nissin type (14mm bolts)) - Rear Bracket mount bolts: 80 lb-ft (2013-2016) - Rear Caliper bolts: 17 lb-ft
@@bertabuddz4756 oh he was really thorough. I'd just suggest not to clean the wheel hub by hand as it takes really long to get it done. You can get the metal circular brush from autozone or home depot and attach it to your drill.
I’ve been watching you for years for advice and I can tell you are a great mechanic and very good at explaining every detail of project keep up the good work
Hey Jim, your tutorial video for changing pads and rotors on my accord was more than helpful!!! Couldn't have done it without you!!! Thank you very much!!!
I bet I watched you change Those pads a dozen times, and finally ordered my pads and rotors and followed you step by step. Thanks it went really well and car stops great. Love the accent, thanks again
Another video for the library! These are going to be great for future generations. I hope we get some young guys in the field, we need good technicians. I like the way you line up all the tools a person will need for the job.
Jimmy, you reminded me of my high school auto tech teacher, Mr. Stinson. Great video. Thanks for uploading. I'm gonna share it with a Honda Accord owners group i used to belong to.
This is the detailed video I've been looking for. The last brake job I did was way back in 82 on my 70 Ford Fairlane with drum brakes. I wore those brakes out so bad the drums fell apart into pieces when I took them off. I wasn't sure if I would be able to replace the rotors and pads on my 2012 Honda but this video made it Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy. Thank you verry much !!!
I like how he’s a real mechanic and not some kid in his moms garage watching a RUclips video on how to change brake and rotors while making a RUclips video on how to change brake and rotors….best video hands down…definitely subscribed
Thank you so much! I've done my older vehicles before but was working on my girlfriends car to try and save money due to the state of things lately so i wasn't 100% about things but with you help everything came out perfect! Thanks so much! The video angle was great, simple and straight to the point! I will, for sure keep you in my favorites for future help! I hope you and yours are all well! Once again, THANK YOU MY FRIEND!!
I use the impact screwdriver all the time and never have trouble with it getting the screws out of the rotors. The torque specs are "Good and tight, plus or minus a jerk". After removing any rust, I still go back and spray break cleaner on the treated areas to remove any rust dust left on the reworked area. It is a great practice.
I needed to thank you for your clear and descriptive explanation especially at the end when you described how the brake pedal will return , great job .
Thanks for the video Jim. I think this is the second or third time I’ve used this specific video and it saves me ~$300 every time. It’s always great to be able to learn from a seasoned pro, especially the extra tips (stuck rotor screws) that would otherwise be skipped on a basic step by step.
An excellent guide to doing this job properly. I like how you put the lubrication under the hardware. I had to replace pads and discs due to rust under the hardware jamming a pad. It took a crowbar to remove it.
I’ve been a professional mechanic for a about a decade now and RUclips still suggests brake jobs to me lol. But I love watching another experienced tech work great instruction well done sir you just earned a sub
Thanks for the simple and informative video you made. I've got two questions if you find the time. 1. I'm hoping this video would apply to a 2013 Honda Civic as well. According to other videos I've watched, it looks likely that it would? 2. You mentioned that if we needed torque specs that we could contact you for them. Either way, excellent video!! Thanks to real mechanics like yourself who help handy, yet amateurs like myself be able to do more things themselves, not only to save money but to feel a personal sense of accomplishment. Paul Stoltman
Awesome video, thank you! i am about to get my rotors replace and can only hope my mechanic doesn't skip any of these steps. :( its all about the details
A really good video. Most everything covered and explained very well in easy to understand terms. I wish you had included a mention of brake fluid issues just to reassure those watching. Also, I would have likes more information on the silicon brake grease and a mention of anti-seize grease on the bolts. If nothing else just mentioning fluid and anti-seize eliminates uncertainty. I like the Amazon store feature. The video would have been improved by reference to it for the piston spreader tool (I bought one), the brake grease (I bought a can), and the impact driver (I bought one). Not criticizing, just suggesting. Great job! I subscribed and look forward to other vids.
Thanks Jim.. took my car to Honda they wanted 675$ to do front and rear....i i bought my brakes at Honda for 65$ front and rear same price...2013 Honda ....and they wanted 630$ for CRV to get both and rear replace also ... IT'S UNREAL HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CHARGE !i watched your video and did myself. Thank you Subscribe all day to you videos you are the MAN!! if i can send you a donation of some sort be more than happy...please keep on doing Honda videos ..again thank you and god bless.... please everyone support JIMTHE CARGUY!
Thank you .I do a live stream Sunday night at 7:00 PM on jimthecarguy.I hope you can stop by.If you do send me a message in the chat.I will talk about your e mail tonight. If you stop by you can make a donation in the chat window.Thank you Jim
Jim, Great video and I'm glad I bought the impact screwdriver otherwise I never would have been able to get the original rotor screws off after 6 years on the road. I struggled getting the discs off because of corrosion, but used a pry bar to free them up. I have a question though about the pins on the caliper bracket... one of the rear (top) pin was frozen. I'd like to go back and fix this so should I buy a new bracket as well as the pins and boots? Seems like it not worth the trouble trying to remove the pin and if its stuck in there, I would imagine the inside of the bracket is corroded.
very well explained and the step-by-step procedure is perfect to follow. Thank you for sharing your professional knowledge for free BTW, do you need to apply a small amount of grease when putting back the rotor on the wheel hub? Great and clear video! thank you so very much.
Hi Jim: Can you please send me the tork specks on the calipers, I should buy a set of manuals. Thank you for having a fantastic delivering on the HOW TO. Best of all Hilton
Man that was great. Loved the step by step process. Is it the way for a 2017 accord also? My next worry is that I dont have a torque wrench how tight by hand? The way I think I noticed you doing it gave me an idea as to how tight it can be, Or if I get one what's the amount needed? Great video!
Hey Jim, you didn’t mention in the video but before pushing the brake piston back into the caliper, do you open the brake fluid reservoir? Thanks for the video, I’ll be taking this project on this weekend.
Not sure about opening reservoir, but you may want to check the level of the reservoir.. If full, it will likely overflow when you push back piston... I use a turkey blaster to remove excess... Honda recommends replacing/flushing brake fluid every 3 years... Is not hard to do but alot easier with a second person
Is there a reason why there’s no V spring on the front pads? I bought brake pads with hardware kits for both my front and rear pads however only the rear pads came with V springs but not the front.

Anything else you’d recommend doing that he didn’t go over?
