I do PD dialysis on myself and I already see several mistakes this nurse has made to make the patient open to potential infection!
    1. Mask must be worn for connecting and disconnect.
    2. She didn't wear gloves.
    3. The transfer set should be wiped down with approved disinfectant (Alcavis), for a minimum of one minute before connecting and again before disconnect.
    4. The adaptive transfer set should have been wiped down with Alcavis before connecting to the patient, as well.

Would you mind telling us how long have you been on PD? How are you feeling right now?
My dad has been on PD since 20 to 25 days (he was on hemodialysis earlier).
He developed swelling all over. Doctor increased dextrose concentration and increased diuretic strength.. Doc gonna put my dad on Machine exchange..
Your feedback will be invaluable. So, please...

to be fair, the nurse expressed at which steps the mask and gloves should be on, she just didn't actually demonstrate it, so she didn't really miss anything

Technically speaking, this video is ancient. Many things have changed since then. The speaker was obviously uncomfortable and not very dynamic about explaining things. If this patient had been at home, the entire procedure would have been different with the sterilization of the entire room, down to the light switches. One of my nurses was overly cautious and bleached everything. She also wore gloves through the entire process, and bleached the gloves with Alcavis because the heavy bleach usage was impacting her hands negatively.
The hospital procedures are very different from home. As you can see, they were unprepared at Mount Carmel for the Fresenius brand of catheter, which is now very common. I could pick this video apart, but not going to waste my time because it is old. I've been on PD about three years, and am thrilled to get out of the clinic and back in my house. Major improvement all the way around, once they got the prescription straightened out.
