The United States is called America, even though it is also the name of the continent. Also, sometimes "United States" sounds awkward in English, so they say "America."

@@pepsiman2824 Yeah, it is used for a special dance in the state of Jalisco where characteristic clothing is used and this type of hat is used mostly on special occasions, there are other similar ones such as the Jarabe Tapatío or the Mariachi hat, the dance consists of doing tricks with a rope or even dancing on horseback.
Now most of them ( usually my father) wear cowboy hats to clubs or bars lmao
