I'd say that yes, the glass option is nice because it almost becomes invisible inside the aquarium (water) but two negatives come to mind and the most obvious one is because it's made of glass, it's very likely to break if it accidentally gets hit inside (or outside) of the the tank with very minimal force or pressure. Secondly; it's transparent thus allowing light to travel through it causing unwanted algae growth within the inner walls of the pipe. Steel - on the other hand, is less delicate and would be able to withstand a few nocks and bumps (...and most likely) - a drop to the floor a few times before it becomes damaged. It also has a tendency to rattle a little louder than glass would.
Brilliant - Stainless steel for me. The glass will look great at the beginning, but it will eventually turn a bit green, despite maintenance + glass is a little fragile.
yes cleaning can be a pain. but with good cleaning tools makes life a lot easier :) we find the better quality glassware such as DOOA and ADA they are more money but they are a thicker glass.
Can I ask a question, I'll pretend you said yes... My outlet hose on my external filter is a mm to small for my new stainless steel one, the other is fine..is there an adapter I can buy? ThanQ in advance. 😊
for me it's SS all the way, the great thing about stainless steel is that you can actually do it for very cheap (especially for those with multiple tanks) by buying a tube and bending it like they do with those water cooled PCs...if external rust is an issue, a quick sanding with a fine grit sandpaper should solve it.
Thanks for the video. I'm considering stainless steel but am worried it will rust and kill my fish, which would be devastating. I've seen stainless steel silverware and shower rods/caddy's rust, and read stainless steel is not rust proof, just resistant, so it's not if it will rust, just when. I'm not sure if buying high quality brands will insure that they won't rust, or if it's just inevitable and most aquascapers aren't too concerned because rust won't kill your plants, and they either don't have fish, or aren't concerned about the possibility of rust killing their few inhabitants. You're input would be greatly appreciated 🙂
hello yes rust can be a big worry but depends on how bad of rust you get it is more concerning in marines as salt eats most steel. when we use steel we clean the steel before adding into the water as we find natural greases from hands can sit and cause dots of rust, when removed the steel is still intact. rust as in proper rust when a steel part is properly corroding then yes can be a massive issue and we would not supple at all if this was the case. in regards to quality of steel there is a big difference take for instance ADA products the steel they use is the best steel on the market and they have been at the top of the industry since they started as there products are made to last :) if you are worried about steel then maybe glass is a better option just be careful when cleaning :)
Unfortunately not they only work on this type of steel as it's a straght pipe. Glassware has nobbles to hold the sucks cups onto the side of the aquarium.
Personally, I think steel, moving that way for a while. If you have multiple tank syndrome, cleaning pipes every day is a pain in the aaaa good vid mate
most glassware are quite large in size but for smaller lily pipes we highly recommend the Dooa glass range. horizonaquatics.co.uk/search?keyword=dooa hope this helps
You forgot or I didn't hear, was are you working with salt or freshwater tanks? Glass is fine for both but salt water will eat away at the steel and contaminate your tank. Nice video!
we only work with freshwater. we do not advice to put steel in salt water as like you say salt will eat away over time. glass the plastic lily pipes we stock are perfectly safe. :)

I’m accident prone so I prefer the steel pipes 😂
Thanks for that vid! Totally agree! For shop steel is great but for display got to be glass.
Vidrio?, ya existe el acrilico que es más difícil que se rompa que el vidrio
Good video - scratchy, scratchy.
Chears buddy :)

Your safest option is to replace hose for another brand. Or if its just 1mm PTFE tape will help bulk it out.
@@HorizonAquatics thanQ I appreciate that..👍

Do the brackets work with the glass pipes , wondering about the suction cup mounts going through ???

@@HorizonAquatics I guessed as much, thanks for your reply.

Yer it saves alot of time with cleaning :)
Chears man appreciate it
Love a bit stainless steel in the tank. Both great products though 😀
Got to love the bling :)
Does anyone know what size lily pipes I need for a 20g tank? I have an external filter with 12mm hoses if that helps.

Why hasn’t someone made acrylic lily pipes ? I mean they’re clear much better clarity as opposed to glass
We do stock aquario pipes now what are clear plastics not as clear as glass but they looks realy nice underwater.

Do you just specialize in freshwater fish? And if so, why?
@@sarahb.7611 we do yes we're an aquascape specialist store and because it's what we love :)
I'm still set on acrylic pipes but cleaning without scratching is still an issue. I'm too clumsy with glass😂
Yer man acrylics they do scratch realy easy. Get on glass buddy :)
Hope your keeping well buddy
@@HorizonAquatics might give glass one more chance😂i'm good thanks, looking forward to popping in again soon👍
Yerrrrr boy 🤪
Just wish the stainless steel had a Lilly pipe end
true that is one down side to steel.
@@HorizonAquatics we just need someone to make them...
Have you got a link to the pipe cleaners
Yes no problem :)

Do steel pipes rust over the years?
If it's good quality stainless steel they shouldn't.
The ones in this video have been on our plant tabels coming up 2 years no rust 😊
@@HorizonAquatics thanks for reply and the video was really informative and helpful. Thank you 😁
I love steel, but it tends to rust. Even my ada vuppa 2 is sadly rusting.
awww really we find we get a small bit of spot rust on the inside of steel but a quick wipe over and it remove it.
you paid a shit ton of money for a pipe that is in the end just a pipe.
hi which external filter is on the stainless steel lily pipes?
in the store we have biomaster on stainless steel. these are optional extras for all filters. how ever ADA Super jet filters come with glassware.
Stainless steel is a win win. Glass looks dirty after months and also is fragile.
Definitely steel for long lasting ,the glass is aesthetically great to look at but not long lasting and needs cleaning more often
So
Steel it is
I hear alot of SO’s 😂
Yer it was 3 years ago I was nervous 🤣
So🤣
