The main purpose of lily pipes is to minimize the visual impact of the equipment in the aquarium, while contributing to the efficiency of filtration.
Their glass design and often their handcrafting makes them works of art. Once under water these pieces give the impression of melting or even disappearing into the decor.
The lily pipes were inspired by a calla lily, hence their name. There are many different models today, but all are known as the lily pipe which is now a designation in itself.
Nature Aquarium Québec presents the five most popular lily pipes in aquascaping.

Most comprehensive comparison ever about Lily pipe types. Thank you!
As a complete novice to aquariums, I'd say this is essential viewing! Really excellent presentation.
Thank you very much 🙏
At last I found video on pipes. Color liquid dispersion is genius. Thank you for great information
Perfect illustration of functionalities of each pipe. Thank you 👍👍. Saving this for future reference
Straight to the point and made it super fun to learn! Thank you!
Started to write a comment pushing back on something said about one of the pipes but I stopped myself (atypical for me), because the video isn't really about that and it's far too useful a guide to spoil the comments with my "well actuallys". So thank you for making such a good & helpful video. So good & helpful in fact, that it got me to shut up long enough to be able to enjoy something without having to be an insufferable pedant lol. Very very well done and thanks again!
This is truly the most useful video on YT. Hats off to the creator, thanks so much 👏🏽👍🏽
Straight forward and using simple explanation. Really insightful
Perfect demonstration with the added indicators!
thank you for this very nice overview on different lily pipes!

Was looking for a solid video on Lily pipes, and you killed it! New subscriber :)
Wow, Thanks mate ;)
So looks like our canisters all come with the equivalent of a "Jet Pipe". Good to know.
Very helpful video and subscribed.

Loved it !
Thank you 🙏
Thanx for great video💯
Very helpful
Very informative Bro hats off
Brilliant video 👍🏼👍🏼
what i was looking for, hi new subscriber here 🙋 thank you so muchhh
super
This is so helpful, thank you! I'm working on a betta tank with a monte carlo carpet and trying to find a balance of having good circulation for co2/nutrient distribution for the carpet, and not having my betta get yeeted around lol.
Well the spin pipe is for you then ;)
I dont know why this video doesnt have more likes
Me neither 🤔
Very helpful video
Thanks mate ;)
Absolutely love you video style!! Excellent editing! Need to learn from your videos! 🤩
Thank you very much, this Actually means a lot 🙏😊
@@NAQNatureAquariumQuebec would you mind letting me know what editing software you use?

quite informative...i was trying to figure out why you need spin and poppy outputs...now i'll be getting some soon.
Thank you, Glad we could help ;)
Thank you for this video. I was wondering what each different head does. Thank you!!!
Oh you automatically knew which head was suited for each tank and type of fish off the rip? Damn bro, you’re good. No I wasn’t kidding.
this video was very instructive and amazing but ... I still dont know witch one to get
looking for a solid video on the different lily pipes. what one is better for a shrimp tank with carpeting plants in a Iwagumi setup?
Our 75g tank came with two normal lock-pipe returns. I've been trying for years to find a way to tune the return better. I never heard of lily pipes before today. Now I need a dozen of them.
Hahaha 😂 I hear you friend ;)
You know they also make intakes in glass also, look it up ;)
@@NAQNatureAquariumQuebec Don't need intakes, the overflow works very well.
Next level cinematography man... superb editing
Thanks mate, it's Realy appreciated 🙏
What you suggest for a 25cm Oscar Fish and for the Aquatic plants?
Cheers Thks For Sharing.
Very good, clear presentation, but I'm still not sure which version I should choose... I have floating plants in the middle of the tank and would prefer to keep it that way. On top of that my Chilli Rasboras and Clown Killifish don't like strong current. What would be the "golden mean" in this case?
I would go with the classic Lily pipe and position it beneath the water surface to minimise surface agitation for you plants. The wide opening will disperse the current to have les impact on your fishes
Great Video and amazing music choice! I have a newly set up heavily planted15 gallon tank using co2. I'm adding pea puffers after it's cycled. Which of these outflows would be best for co2 distribution while not shooting the little murder beans around the tank?
The original Lily pipe would do well. Or you have the spin pipe, but this one will sacrifice a lot of water movement.
NAQ Nature Aquarium Quebec Got it. Thanks so much for the reply! Most of the other shops didn’t send any response so this is greatly appreciated!
Would you want a violet lily for a more planted tank or does more CO2 in the water serve a different function?
Can I attach this to my fluval 207 ?
Is water circulation in the tank better if you keep them both in the front corner? I have them in separate corners on the right side, trying to improve my setup
Its better to keep inflow and outflow pipes on the same side of the aquarium, thus forcing a better circulation. Putting them up front on one of the sides assurés that there will be no obstruction of flow since we rarely put tall plants in front.
Hi. 10 gallon tank. Eheim 2211. Betta.
Should I go with the Spin or the Lily. Thanks!
Hey. I have a vegetation aquarium with low tech 220 liters 1.20 length. Which type do you recommend the most? Thanks in advance.
i have a 5 gal cube, should i use a spin pipe or a poppy pipe to keep water flow to a minimum for my shrimp
I would use the spin pipe ;)
Can someone suggest whether a betta in a tank with corydoras and C02, sounds like a tank where violet pipe would work best?
It depends on the tank dimensions but yes in general the violet outflow would be the best choice ;)
@@NAQNatureAquariumQuebec Thank You for responding. Aquarium: 30.7 in L x 15.7 in

Hallo allgemeine Frage wenn die unter Wasser ist kommt da genug Sauerstoff an den wenn man sie etwas uber Wasser setzt ist sie schon laut
I don’t like lily pipe because the outflow pipe don’t create enough surface agitation, hence oily substances appear at the top of the water , so surface skimmer also required .
Amazing video, was having trouble understanding the differences. I’m setting up a 16g planted cube for a betta, will the spin have enough water circulation to move the CO2 about while not stressing my betta? Thanks!
We usualy use spin pipes in smaller size aquarium (2 - 5 gallons) im afraid there wont be enough circulation for a 15 gallons water collumn. Unless you go with a canister filter with incredible pressure (super jet filters from ADA)
I think you're better off with a regular Lily pipe ;) more flexible.
Thanks so much for the quick reply! In your experience would a regular lily pipe cause to much current and stress for a betta? My plan for filter is a Oase filtosmart thermo 100
@@shaneflewellen8784 you're going to be fine ;)
@@shaneflewellen8784 Hi. What did you go with? Spin or Lily? I have a similar tank with a Betta.
which pipe would be good for guppies?
The poppy pipe would be excellent
@@NAQNatureAquariumQuebec okay thank you!!
Could you put these on a canister?
Yep. Thats what these are usually used for.
@@wjhdrew I'm sorry I meant to put like bigger canister like c360 rated for 100 plus gallons the fx's without messing up the motor
Anthony Tirado ime it’s no problem. Just have to make sure it fits the pipes of course. I know that the fx’s need some modification to have regular tubing instead of the rubber tubing to work with these lily pipes.
No shitty talks. Just pure visual information.
Good video. Informative.... But could you change the music. Haha
Hey Thanks... But no haha whats wrong with it?
@@NAQNatureAquariumQuebec thought the music worked so work considering the theme of lily pipes
I think the music is excellent. I have birocratic on spotify as we speak now lol
@@NAQNatureAquariumQuebec Musik ist perfekt für dieses Video , bitte ja so lassen !!
@@pro-maja Wir werden sie niemals ändern ;)
Lily pipes are worthless if cannister filters get clogged. Usually do because their pumps are not strong enough for what they promise to be. You can have same thing with a gardening pipe, obviously does not look as fancy as these.
Wtf was that intro music
I've downloaded this video and will use it elsewhere thanks
Hope we'll be mentionned ;)
No copyright in this video so no. Thanks again
