  • I will take you from preparing the base layer to installing the concrete patio pavers and locking them in place with sand. I installed over 1200 pavers in my backyard for this backyard makeover project. And I discovered, like most projects, all the time goes into the prep work.

Great video! I know this video must have taken a lot of time to make, so thank you for taking the time to post it. I like the step-by-step instructions and your attention to detail. I personally liked your mistakes, because we all make them, but more so, I like your explanation of what happened and why and what you did to remedy the issue. That said, thank you for not taking those out of the video.

@BJ-sg6uk Thanks, I appreciate the comment. Yes, this one did take a long time to edit together, much longer than putting all the pavers down. HA! This is the project that gave me the idea to start a RUclips channel, so it's nice to hear that someone enjoyed it and all the work that went into making it.

Do they have Emmys for RUclips videos? I’m not sure which was more work for the production or the post production. As always, Paul, you are amazing. I hope your efforts are blessed beyond your imagination.

@larrykausch1 Definitely the postproduction! I shot way too much footage.

Man, I decided to check your newest video on a whim after checking your carpet cleaner tutorial video from 11 mo ago. The audio quality on that one was kinda iffy, like 2008-tier. The carpet video was well-edited and shot, but the audio on this is day and night! You really stepped your game up, in

Thanks, yes the carpet video was the first one I shot, almost as an experiment. I had know idea it would do so well. Yes I do all the work on these videos, glad you enjoy them.

why not use the compactor to compactact the sand?

Sand is used to even out the surface, so the pavers are level to each other. Which is why you use the 1" pipe, and level it with a piece of wood. Once it is level you don't want to walk on it or so anything else that would compact it in an area or move it around. I've seen some guys use pea gravel instead of sand, but I think it would take a lot more effort to even it out.
