Fix your oven with ease: bake element replacement tips
The other night my wife was using the oven when the bottom element started to spark and arc? She turned it off, but it kept sparking and glowing red hot. I had to pull the oven away from the wall so I could unplug to turn it off. I didn’t want to wait two weeks for an OEM replacement, so I ended up purchasing one much cheaper and could get it in a couple of days.

    • @BruBuilds
      @BruBuilds День назад

      Cost. We actually did remove the tree this winter. $3k. To dig up the front yard and replace the pipe would be very expensive. I'm curious if removing the tree is going to help with the root problem. I could get the sewer line relined, which would cost a lot less. Thanks for the comment.

    this is not good. Does no trouble-shooting. Just assumes pipe is bad. Should be asking questions like, does water only leak when faucet is on or also when it is off. If it only leaks when on, then obviously, replacing the pipe will do nothing but give you practice replacing a pipe and cost you time and money.

      That is just a hand held version of what I have, it may have a smaller diameter snake. If you need more power you would want to use a larger diameter snake, like 5/8”. Sometimes it takes 10-15 min to clear a clog, it would get old to have to hold the weight an auger with a hang held unit.

    Does it matter if you overshoot the end of your main and go into the city line? I'm guessing that area is much wider... would the cable whip around a lot and damage the city side or the cable?

    • @BruBuilds
      @BruBuilds 29 дней назад

      That's a good question and I'm not really sure of the answer. My 50ft snake isn't long enough to reach all the way to the street and city sewer line. I get roots growing in at a certain spot and once I clear that area, the rest of the sewer works fine. My understanding is "newer" city sewer lines use a vertical sewer tap to connect your house line to the city line. I'm guessing if the snake reaches this area, it's just going to hang down and spin. I would be concerned if your house still had clay pipes for the main sewer line.

    Use primer. Putting excessive strain on the joint like you are in the video isn’t realistic in a real life scenario. Normally glue joints are just left to set up without strain. I’ve been plumbing for awhile and when I’ve seen old plumbing that wasn’t primed, the glue joints get brittle and they can easily fall apart. Primed and glued pipe will hold forever. Only using glue might be fine for 10 years or so but eventually those joints will get brittle and fail.

    Question... bought an older house and had someone making repairs and removing over growth from around around the house. We were told by the realtor that natural gas was now available in the neighborhood but the house hadn't previously been connected. We got a scary surprise about 2 days in when my husband and a couple of guys were removing 1 of 2 large privot hedges in the front yard and pulled a 5/8 orange plastic pipe up with the tree. Not by digging but by using an excavator to pull the tap root from the ground.... called 811 got everything fixed, but were now wondering if we decide to connect our home to gas, should we run new lines...asking because I wasn't aware orange pipe was made for running gas lines and want to make sure it's safe and up to code.

    • @BruBuilds
      @BruBuilds Месяц назад

      @amandayother9196 Thats sounds scary, especially that your house wasn't supposed to have gas connected to it. Good reason to call 811 before digging. My understanding is the gas company is responsible for the gas line from the street to the meter, the homeowner is responsible for anything past the meter. Who fixed the line? Last year the gas company replaced the line from the street at our house and used the same type of yellow pipe I installed in the back yard. I would call your gas company and talk with them.

    • @BruBuilds
      @BruBuilds Месяц назад

      @jpeterson991 yes I would use a concrete saw to cut two parallel lines first. There should be rebar you will have to deal with so a few cross cuts might be helpful. Make sure there isn’t anything under the concrete that could be damaged. Are you sure it is only 2”, that’s not very thick for a slab.

    • @jpeterson991
      @jpeterson991 Месяц назад

      @@BruBuilds I already have roughed in plumbing it’s in the wrong spot and I need to add a drain for a sink. • @BruBuilds
      @BruBuilds Месяц назад

      I guess it depends on where and how old your house is, if there is rebar, a concrete saw will cut through it without a problem. I would recommend a saw that has the water attachment, it will be messy but a lot less dust. Happy DIYing!

    I’ve got a basic kitchen sink faucet with in e handle attached to the faucet and now I’m getting water under the sink from time to time and I see wetness at the part coming down through the hole, the part the hoses go into, is wet, how do I figure out the source of the leak if I never see it drip? Could it be water splashed above in the faucet flange area is leaking through the seals and down, or would water inside the handle be leaking down? Or something else? Again, I see the area under the sink the hoses go up into the faucet is wet. When I run water I don’t see it getting any wetter though.

    • @BruBuilds
      @BruBuilds Месяц назад

      @wstt4 I would try pouring water around the area where the faucet and sink meet and see if it starts to drip under the sink. Hard to know where the faucet might be leaking without seeing it. You could remove the handle and check if there are any signs of leaking around the valve inside the faucet. There should be a set screw holding the handle on.

      I had another viewer mention that. Trying to think if there is a way to test the "gas in the bubbles" theory.

    Bought a dozen ridgid tools over the years starting in 2017. I recommend them when I can and would do it all over again. Do you really need anything else. I use them practically daily as a commercial electrician, and the LSA is amazing.

      I may need to use the LSA for my batteries soon.

    The primered pipe is used material. The damaged fitting on the end of the pipe shows that. The age of pvc matters a lot for a test like this.

      Yes, both the pipes were old, I don't remember if I cut them from the same piece. I would have expected the pipe to crack when I had it around the tree, if it was an age issue. Thanks for noticing.

      That is the main reason I switched.
