The D-Day operation on June 6th, 1944, marked the largest amphibious invasion in military history. Codenamed Overlord, this operation seamlessly integrated land, air, and sea forces. The combined forces were organized into five distinct assault groups assigned to five different beaches, each assigned a code name: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.

The older I get, the more stunned and amazed I am, by the sacrifices made by these brave, heroic men. To march into the Hell of machine gun rounds and high explosives, makes me realise and appreciate what those heroes did. May they lie sweetly at rest.

Detail about 518 squadron met reports and Captain Stag good . Was D Day ever going to be a walk over ? No . 10, 000 casualties is very sad but losses were estimated at 30,000. It was a success . The Battle for Normandy was bloody and difficult . German troops were determined and fought hard inspite of superior allied air power. One can only feel gratitude for the men who fought for our freedom .
