Surprising how often Rupert interrupts the interviewer. I'm sure he's heard these questions many many times, but give people the opportunity to express themselves completely.
He must have been interviewed by different people a hundred times with the same questions. I would have quit.
Yes, he's often impatient. I've seen him downright angry at times too. How can he yak on about peace and happiness when for him he hasn't even found them?
@@lucyhartman1501 right, because in the end we're all human. Humans evolved with certain emotional capabilities and yet many dysfunctions remain. Clearly there's a wide range of emotional regulation capacities across the 8B of us, and maybe diligent meditation can even improve where you stand in the distribution, but in short, everyone gets pissed. Even self-proclaimed buddhas. I remember seeing some videos of Papaji in his later years, cranky because his body was failing him. That's why it's so important to never lionize or worship meditation teachers, the good ones only remind us to look away from them and toward our own momentary experience again and again, until the core insight is so obvious it can't be overlooked.
One wise teacher said "if you didn't know how to bake a souffle before awakening, you still won't after" ... which in this context means the project of being less of an a-hole is orthogonal to the project of awakwning. Gotta do em both! Then learn to bake a proper souffle
@@mountainair Yes, too much of this non-duality seems to be just an escape, or avoidance of out (very real) humanity. Papaji was beyond cranky sometimes, yelling at people etc.
I (and even Ramanashram) don't find him Self realized.
Anyway, I agree "awakening" isn't some magic pill. Clearly there's still plenty of crap left after it - requiring a lifetime of work. If you cast a shadow, you still got shadow.

Thank you, also, Rupert for sharing about your experience (non experience) regarding sudden enlightenment and also about some periods of suffering. It seems so common (was part of my "story") that suffering helped lead to realization. 🙏🏻

I look forward to the day Rupert Spira Eben Alexander and Bruce Grayson have a talk. There’s a lot more to this.
But the ironic thing about life is that we have to work objectively at our life by getting up and getting an education, getting a job, making money, having friends, etc; In other words, "do" things to live. But at the same time look inside ourselves, to find the truth of ourselves.
That Is a western mindset. I've known loads of people, who have lived in a camper. Travelling and living hand to mouth. It isn't all about do do do.
Work for wages is a relatively new model. Way back we worked on our own behalf, and in harmony with nature.
Go to the amazon tribes. They "do" for direct payment (I.e the animal as food) and don't waste time nor energy on attaining "things" and luxurious trinkets. They are a direct doing.
They also meet others as a true human. No pretense, no superficial "how are you - yes well thanks". It's shallow platitudes maily In the west. Total garbage.

After watching several of these wonderful videos I am 1000th of a percent aware of who I have become, a sliver aware of how I got to this place and hopefully I can learn to see the real me I can be and forgive myself and anyone or things that made me not love myself. It will be a long journey that I wished I started years ago. My whole life is based on avoiding the tough questions. Avoiding everything really. The only thing I know is that I have used alcohol as blinders for over forty years. I have wasted a lifetime hiding.
Not really wasted I'd say - our true nature must be there all the time, never lost, as Rupert says, just overlooked.

She questions why there is suffering in some humans. I don't know if Rupert was trying to convince her or not. But as far as I know Rupert the answer is that whoever sees the suffering is the cause of suffering because he or she is projecting it in the first place and then asking the question about suffering. It's just amazing. I love 💕 the suchness of this presence 🎉

Initially, maybe there was nothing until we / consciousness imagined it. Then, perhaps this gathered momentum became all absorbing. Perhaps it gathered a personality considered itself enough. Crystallising out into a sort of reality that separated out from consciousness. Maybe it is now only holding on by threads to its original self. The emissary has become the master?
Everything we know was put into our heads from the first experience and from the stories arising from it that were handed down.
Every now and then, we perhaps realise that we can look up from what is gripping us and see the more. See that we were consciousness first and that reality can be re imagined. Maybe we should look up more and reconnect with ourselves, and with the peace and happiness this can bring?

Excellent conversation. (But needs a little attention to the subtitles; they read roomy and roomi for Rumi, and pedantic for vedantic. For those who are deaf, it'd be confusing x)
Rupert believes that Rupert awakened. That some failure be it one or many wore down ignorance of our real nature. Rupert states the screen is ever unchanged, that the ever changing images themselves are causing the imagery to change into the present transitory moment. The I, is permanent, whilst the ego I, is not.
Silence, and emptiness is the ground of emerging being. Continuously clearing the imaginary from itself the screen, the true self is not static or unchanging, this is what the Buddha understood and taught. Buddha understood that we are an instrument not the orchestra, or the orchestrater. He understood the concept of Atman was incorrect it missed the mark. All stories are the duality from the one ever moving ever changing source. Waking up is the realisation no-thing is appearing on apparent blank screen, and you and I have nothing to do with it full stop.

@@claudedupont7432 Thank you for your polite instruction. I watched the entire video before your advice and have watched other teachings from Rupert. Indeed, his teaching has been mostly a positive road to walk. Rupert appears not only to teach, he uses these occasions to refine his own understanding of his essential self, his egos need to support his own awakening of his essential self.
Rupert tends to talk, over thinking his basic understanding. By and large is supported in that endeavor by his intellectual and academic students in his audiences.
The screen of life is a perfect analogy for our essential nature. And though this understanding is comforting, bringing partial peace of mind. The content on the screen needs our understanding as well, before acceptance. After all our essential self is the origin of all content.
Then full, not partial peace of mind is possible, and letting be happens, over thinking stops.

I (the target of this video) have a really hard time digesting any language that is not our essential self yet is used to try and describe our essential self. Especially words like peace and happiness which are not static states. Life is constant movement, constant change and to suggest that it is not feels irresponsible. WHERE IS THE TAO? The Tao that can be named is not the eternal Tao and language is inherently manipulation patterns of the ego and the basic nature of language is to separate and manipulate. Even if the message is beautiful and "positive" it is manipulation of the mind, manipulation of the ego. I can love all y'all to the moon and back and let go of all the patterns of belief I hold as identity but that doesn't feed my body or pay my bills and NOT ONE SINGLE ONE OF THESE GURUS CAN OFFER A GUARANTEE THAT BRINGS PEACE AND FEEDS MY FAMILY RIGHT NOW.

I don't think Christianity teaches that we share our being. I've never heard it preached or taught, though I'm not saying it would be wrong. There's a few teaching Christian Nonduality now, so that's a beginning.
