OMG! The story about Shay! Now I know why my teacher Mr Elliot used to take me home for lunch daily! His wife would put a plate at the table and serve me. So embarrassed shy worthless. @@Tinyteacher1111Bless you 🙏 I am 72 years old on Tuesday and I still am working with one of the 2 brothers with autism, that I have been working with for 20 years. But he got 6ft plus tall and with lots of weight behind him. We could no longer manage it or him. He even bit off a piece of his dad's ear... What a fabulous interview! Jack Kornfield was my introduction to Buddhism back in 2003. Both he and Tara Brach are my favorite insight meditation teachers. I love the presence of both Shane and Jack.... THANK YOU!
This man intones authenticity - he comes from a place of human experience, not theory. The Crux of the matter is that true suffering does confer a visceral wisdom that is essential for self awareness - which also seems to be the key to understanding the other - the more I understand myself the more I see myself everywhere, in everyone, and in every facet of life, beyond all we previously understood, and collapsing the boundaries between our experience of The sacred, and the profane. Somehow I realise that the seeds of what I need to know is there already in my life experience.... The point comes after you say you will not bequeath bitterness to your children you understand there will come a time when they are faced with the same and the experience is shared. Children have to experience for themselves to totally believe. But sometimes (I speak from experience) one of the children begins to treat you as what they’ve been told and that causes big division and heartache. So even from the middle way I think it’s okay to teach values that manifest in their eventual understanding. They will see as the behavior will not desist just because the ex has moved on to a new partner. Time will tell and that’s really the only thing they will innerstand✌️🕊️💜
Thank u Jack! Thanks to the interviewer! So grateful I stumble on this. I learned so much!!!! I'm sending it to my son in Australia who is in deep grief with loss of his dog yesterday!!!!! I will listen to this again as I'm sure to learn something new.
4:25 grateful for all the knowledge we get from RUclips about how to be with ourselves especially since most of us in America don’t receive any kind of knowledge in that category.

Awesome interview. A family member went to India, to join a Buddhist monastery. For over 40years I’ve chanted the old word for God, HU. My dreams changed immediately, and I’ve never looked back. The HU opened the doors to love, protection, past life recall, and much more. HU - God on YT. HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU for love. ❤❤❤❤❤ It’s the only reason we’re here.

I have a lot of these kids in my ESL classes. Its always good to see them ALL again the following September! Life is short and very scary when you believe that the way you feel is caused by other people, and does NOT come from your own self! They don't understand how they themselves function, how their own minds work. Be sure to teach this and give them chances to express and feel the love and gentleness and tenderness they have in their own hearts. So many of them have been so traumatized by war and brutality that they have just never known how that feels for themselves.
I've listened to this video maybe 3-4 times now. I thank you for this wisdom. This beautiful recipe can cleanse the soul daily as healing isn't a one time event it is continuous like our spirit.🙏🏽
I love Jack, I love the interviewer, I love you all ❤ I’m so grateful to have found this. I don’t know the interviewer, but like Jack said, you have a Presence so profound, it took me(us) on a beautiful journey- Thank you
❤❤❤ I completely LOVE this interview and the both of you blessed men sharing your time, making space for anyone inclined to listen to these peace bringing wisdoms. Deep gratitude for all and myself for resonating with every word and emotion expressed.. Thank you 😂❤
Wow! Do you mean to tell us that we as humans have the capacity to experience as many as 500 different emotions?!😮 We would never had known that - thank you for sharing that!
I'm reminded of a poem by Rumi that goes: This being human is a guest house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.
WOW ...that Budhist teacher 5O years ago ...probably 1OOO's of years old and we are just learning these concepts now as Westerners. That opening statement is so profound, abt facing your suffering and it setting you free. TY
The Buddhist teachings have been around for thousands of years, and the western world has had knowledge of them easily for over 100 years. There’s so much to know in and of the world everyone won’t learn about the same things at the same times.

This is excellent, I am a teacher and student of Spinoza's and Gurdjieff's Philosophy. The importance of facing our anger and understanding our emotions leads to freedom.
Beautiful podcast by a brilliant gentle soul with his wise words, love this man....thank you, and I enjoyed several of your questions....especially the one about the negative mind being automatic, which science says is true, that's my way and what a great conversation about it....
What a beautiful enlightening uplifting and gentle talk - showers if thanks to both of you. So true what Jack so beautifully said about the moderator. I've seldom heard and felt a better synergy in a dialogue, and it really takes two to create that. Waves of love to both of you 🌊
Gentlemen, what a profound discussion that touched on issues of today that I would say are experienced by every human being. Both of you were sincerely respectful of each other's input. You are both such beautiful souls who enriched my life - many thanks and much love.
Thank you so much Jack for the kindness and love you are pouring into our world. Your beautiful voice, words and energy are such a gift toward ending suffering. I discovered Ram Dass in 1980 and his voice, while totally different from yours, had an equally nourishing quality, embellished of course with his glorious storytelling and sense of humor. You both have made our dear Earth a better place. Thank you.❤

Hi Shane. Thank you so much for this video with Jack Kornfield; I'd heard his name but that's as far as it went. There is so much to learn here and I love that there are experiences used throughout to illustrate the teachings. I agree with Jack about what you bring to the interview and had been feeling it before Jack commented on it. I think one way of accepting compliments without becoming flustered and self conscious is to acknowledge that it's a unique divine gift put in you. I'm going to listen to this at least one more time.

Lots of wisdom in this conversation. Seems like slowing our thoughts down so we can pause our reactions to find a new way to respond makes the best sense to avoid going to war with ourselves. Thank you Shane and Jack!
thank you for so many inspirations - like watching strong emotions from some distance in order to disentangle. Although I meditate for years and theoretically know all this, it gave me a real aha-experience. Now I can handle marital disputes and especcially silent treatments much better! Also I want to say, that your conversation is an excellent example of how people should communicate with each other!

I have gradually turned away in recent years from the metaphysical but find myself turning back when I listen to Jack. I find hope and consoling help listening to him, for me and all of us . We are adrift in an amazing universe but some of us (Jack) know how to take the human heart and condition along on the amazing journey.
9:45 I'll try and work with this little gem here that I can expand my window.... Tolerate what sweeps in. Further Your Story Goes that you could really get to see beyond What feelings are coming and going. True beingness... that conscious awareness... The fruit we all desire from meditation practice.
His way of explaining what meditation should be doing for you, it is miraculous. Thank you so much for that. The interviewer also was magnificent at helping to clarify things for me. A wonderful video. I have come back to it a few times.
There’s no “should” about meditation. It doesn’t work for every person; and there are different types of meditation. There are specific situations in which meditation can be harmful - something which isn’t discussed enough among meditation teachers. Many people who have true PTSD can do worse if they do certain mindfulness meditation techniques. This is well-documented, btw. Meditation is something to try; it may or may not be helpful. There’s no “should.”
One key that really helps to free ourselves is to realize that nothing is really personal to us - if you really really think about it. People behave towards us coming from their own dysfunction - so if we are able to embrace our own dysfunction that we picked up in life and work with it and heal it and realize that nothing is ever personal (which ego tends to make it so) then forgiveness becomes easier.
Thanks Jack. These days we don’t need to go to any monastery , you all beat the path to doing it.Just watch what comes up with awareness and the habits and conditioning will fade.I am infinite awareness behind all the stories ,this vast space is what we are. The conditioning takes some time to work through but you can be the infinite awareness whilst these invitations come up and you can just refuse them.
Thank you, Jack. It all starts when we 'l' come into realizing the inner place of infinate vastness exists here, now with & within. It is at rest, and here iñ the abundance as...the living, loving womb of wonder. May grace guide us by this boundless Oneness. Thou Art the Kingdom. Mindful self compassion Already a temple is.
I am a mindfulness teacher. This is my first time listening to both Shane & Jack. This conversation is so lovely. Shane your questions are simple. Jack your reply is simple. Thank you
You ALL are recognized and honored as the eternal, you are the most precious of the Creator, the I Am, and that which has always been and will always be. Our uniqueness is what makes us even more precious. The former vengeful hard drinking biker turned benevolent being, the recently divorced and downtrodden soccer mom now soaring like an eagle, our painful pasts fast becoming distant memories to be included in the Book of Records. I'm proud of you, I know what it took for you to get here, because I am you.

Thw world needs yr bravery and brilliance! You are respected and admired and this is a travesty of justice. Sending strength. Only a great soul chooses such a journey
Thank Yous; just listening in a bit here and found a friend. As a "Buddhist" over here in the Willamette Valley born in Berkeley/ Raised within Massachusetts I can relate to these insights, personal translations and Learnings as advice and methodologies of meaning. This stuff seems so crucial for these times of displacements; planes, trains, automobiles, records, videos, lights with changing families, cultures and spaces.
I lived in Berkeley for over 16yrs. Ashby FLEA MARKET in Berkeley was my world and I was in the drum circle there. I made friends with a main drummer and fell in love with him and his beautiful music. He is on the other side now. A BLACK MAN WAS A Buddha and they didn't see it. I DID. I moved away due to displacement and gentrification and racism, GREED, and corrupt officials. I suffered and grieve but I was put back on the path. Berkeley CA I won't forget.
I Got to Think about, what The child with The ceramics Bowl is listening to this so fine presence between you two so mindful people. I am deeply moved by your time together. I am grateful deep in My heart 🥰

Hi, Shane and Jack, I don’t know how and why tuned into your podcast. Ten minutes into listening to both of you I settled down, and listened till the end. Thank you both, you certainly made my day. Blessings and good energy from a RUclips stranger in Texas that you have a full recovery and and also wonderful caregivers during your stay. Both of my senior parents were in the hospital and ICU for 7 week and a 5 week stay last year. I understand how hospital stays can be. Hope you are well enough to get home soon. ❤
I like to wish „difficult“ people „ALL THE BEST“! Which is not fake or insincere because „the best“ would be peace of mind, happiness, gratitude, openness….and that way they may find the path of harmony In themselves
I am at the very beginning of this video, and thank you for the forward about suffering because it lured me in, and it is wisdom of the ages, but I felt compelled to thank, dear, Mr. Kornfield for his brilliance and wisdom that has only added to my Searching for spiritual Enlightenment and peace while waiting for Godot! Bless you, dear Sir, and I will certainly be following you and your work, and I cannot thank you enough for how it will change my life. Even in the opening sentences about suffering, you nailed my sentiments exactly, and I struggled to articulate. I know suffering for 34 years, of my 50 years, and it has been one catastrophic illness after another, until I sought spiritual enlightenment and God, and I was healed and transformed, though my journey is not finished, at least I know there is hope through spiritual enlightenment, and it truly does work and heal you, mind, body, and soul.🥰🌟🎁🙏🥰💜
Bless you --and Universe of us all --for your opening words: speaking of Being with Suffering, wholly, Listening, Learning, allowing the Heart be cracked open more fully, rather than running in fear from the pain... in countless ways.... I get emails with BOOSTER SHOTS of wisdom.. This kind of service to humanity by these podcasters surely makes me feel that I am born in an era that is blesssssssssssed. Thank you. 🎉❤
"Undeserving". Spot on. Most likely if you have been abused by parents this feeling comes up!

What a blessed kind soul he is! On my spiritual path & my goal is to become as composed and down to earth as he is.
Good luck 🤣
Awesome interview. A family member went to India, to join a Buddhist monastery. For over 40years I’ve chanted the old word for God, HU. My dreams changed immediately, and I’ve never looked back. The HU opened the doors to love, protection, past life recall, and much more. HU - God on YT. HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU for love. ❤❤❤❤❤ It’s the only reason we’re here.
HUU?? what is tht?

Deeply, deeply touching. Genuine. Those piles of stones and the way honor was restored.. Thank you so. ❤
I liked the stones too.

😂😂😂 I thought I was a bit crazy for doing that myself, but....❤❤❤
@@rogerinkeywest I listen to a lot of spiritual teachers, but his words hit differently.. ❤
@@rainbow_flo Glad you are getting something, and maybe millions more in the future, right?
I love Jack, I love the interviewer, I love you all ❤
I’m so grateful to have found this. I don’t know the interviewer, but like Jack said, you have a Presence so profound, it took me(us) on a beautiful journey- Thank you
❤
❤❤❤ I completely LOVE this interview and the both of you blessed men sharing your time, making space for anyone inclined to listen to these peace bringing wisdoms. Deep gratitude for all and myself for resonating with every word and emotion expressed..
Thank you 😂❤
This was such a beautiful conversation. Thank you for sharing it.
Wow! Do you mean to tell us that we as humans have the capacity to experience as many as 500 different emotions?!😮 We would never had known that - thank you for sharing that!
I'm reminded of a poem by Rumi that goes:
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
Perfect.
So the knock at the door from the SS was a good thing? This doesn’t make sense
WOW ...that Budhist teacher 5O years ago ...probably 1OOO's of years old and we are just learning these concepts now as Westerners. That opening statement is so profound, abt facing your suffering and it setting you free. TY
Yes. Opening sentence is ear catching.

@@_xiper that's great, however, is your mind ready?
Hmm - I would like to know more about that.

This is so honest and authentic. What a gem
Thank you.❤

Hey Zuckerberg, why don't you stop your business with Asia, Middle East, and Africa?? Go back to South America , North America or Vatican country do business with them?
Don't steal our money and power up your God darn Holy Pope Francisco to us..
You have to answer with the public what is wrong that you suspending my Facebook account permanently . Come on, say it. If you don't answer, please stop your business with us.

True Blue Love to you!
This conversation means so much to me especially 'the two kinds of suffering' . Thank you both.

Very grateful to have clicked on this video. I really needed to hear you both speak. Thank you, thank you, thank you 🙏 ❤
thank you for so many inspirations - like watching strong emotions from some distance in order to disentangle. Although I meditate for years and theoretically know all this, it gave me a real aha-experience. Now I can handle marital disputes and especcially silent treatments much better! Also I want to say, that your conversation is an excellent example of how people should communicate with each other!

I could listen all day ❤
This is such an inspiring and valuable discussion.
I agree
Mindful self compassion
Already a temple is.

Thank you for the beautiful Amazing words, thoughts & stories to understanding the human condition and how to allow the spirit to be free to grow.🙏🌻💕

This man just throws me every time . How can he be so amazing with so many different human situations . I am always in awe of every word he utters .
Thanku for the interviewers great questions ….
Also, if we develop the inner observer , it gives us the pause to decide , now we may want to be in this world .
Beautiful man, love the messages and the wisdom he has to share.
“YOUS”??????
I lived in Berkeley for over 16yrs. Ashby FLEA MARKET in Berkeley was my world and I was in the drum circle there. I made friends with a main drummer and fell in love with him and his beautiful music. He is on the other side now. A BLACK MAN WAS A Buddha and they didn't see it. I DID. I moved away due to displacement and gentrification and racism, GREED, and corrupt officials. I suffered and grieve but I was put back on the path. Berkeley CA I won't forget.
Excellent interview! Thank you for creating and sharing ❤
Thank You, beautiful to hear you, how you transformed to inner silence. We can learn a lot from despair, inner and outer war. LOVE is

Good luck hope you get better soon 🇬🇧❤️🙏
I am feeling under the weather and this is reviewing and pulling together mindfulness🙏 sessions, excellent.
The essence of freeing ourSelves to be alive and well, being Well Being
