You can witness the drastic change with Stilgar. You can see it when Stilgar acts like a father figure for Paul until becoming a loyal fanatic. If you watch that transition you will notic that he becomes totally unrecognizable. In my opinion Stilgar was the true Muad'dib. He was a teacher of men and/or boys and was wisest in the ways of the desert. You do not become a leader of a siech by luck.

In the book Stilgar offered to marry Jessica as an option. He also needed to solidify his rule in the tribe with a wife lest he be challenged and have to go "maiming and killing" the youth through their time of turmoil (adolescence boys challenging the old man). When he spoke this to Jessica he was also speaking to the eavesdroppers. This led Jessica to reevaluate Stilgar for his subtlety.

Stilgar to me always been the real Messiah he been looking for it was within him the whole time he was the reason why Paul became the Messiah but Stilgar didn't want to be the Messiah that was written in the history books maybe because he was getting to old 😂😂😂😂

Religious manipulation: creation of prophecies and signs and their misuse by religious figures is a theme of the novel Dune (as you know). Stilgar plays a more prominent role in the promulgation of the myth of the Lisan Al-Gaib in the movie because of...movies and the way movies must do exposition. I enjoyed the appendix of the novel that explains how the Bene Gesserit were manipulated by Somone (guess who!) using higher order dimensions to create and use events to ensure Paul's survival and rise.
I confess I didn't like Stilgar in the movie all that much. He was a foil in the movie to expose naivety of those manipulated but the novel is a better depiction of the man and the fierce naib of the desert who becomes a creature of the Lisan Al-Gaib only at the very end of the novel.
