Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb ..in my house That was darkened for days Been thinking you probably should stay This guy. How the hell do you write that shit? Friggin genius.
If I could go back in time and see this live, I would. Gregory Alan Isakov, Chris, and Aoife are probably my three favorite musicians and to see them all on the same stage is AMAZING
It's because they are so joyous making music with each other. Just being witness to it is a blessing as little sparks of joy and love fly out of the middle.

lyrics: when the wine stops working and you’re all run out and all of your high hopes have all headed south and the songs left the stable and they never came home and there ain’t no forgetting that you’re out on your own turned the scrub oaks to timber and you’re left without friends and you don’t put your book down even after it ends smoke curls up from the table in your quiet little room and your heart’s worn the handle of an old pushing broom broken bottles shine just like stars, make a wish anyway just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house that was darkened for days been thinking you probably should stay when the going is long gone and the kick drum won’t kick when you fumble with your fiddle and you’re fresh out of tricks and the horseflies are biting but the fish never do and your heart’s a thousand colors but they’re all shades of blue broken bottles shine just like stars make a wish anyway just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house that was darkened for days been thinking you probably should stay yeah, I think that you probably should stay and our dreams on the windowsill see those trees turning gold in the hills
Everything about this is just so perfect. What a collection of talent from the songwriting to the voices to the playing. I especially appreciate Thile's inability to maintain his composure after the bass break. This is a guy who has been surrounded by the best of the best every day since his childhood and his pure joy for the music still shines through. I miss this show.

You're going to blink and another 19 years is going to be behind you... Don't take it for granted. Learn as much as you can as fast as you can. And have fun.
You have good taste. Check out Sarah Jarosz if you haven't run across her yet. She and Aoife and Sara Watkins have a group, I'm With Her, and they are so great together.

Yes, this is the end of the show. It is the encore. I unfortunately also had to leave before it once because of them damn trains that all got cancelled and I would have ended up stranded in Manchester if I didn't leave. I'm still pissed about it and it's been two years already 😅
Simply magical. I'd work a month of hard days to experience a night listening to an hour or two of this bliss. I miss living in the NYC area (not that this is NYC). I'd often see Aoife or Chris, or any number of skilled musicians in small clubs in the LES. Sadly, many of those clubs went out of business before I moved away from the area.
That's the LFH magic right there. Gather a bunch of cooperative, flexible musical geniuses, sketch a general plan. Then follow that plan to the letter, until you don't, and leave the audience breathless either way.
Two different approaches. In one, each voice gets a mic and the mixing engineer determines the blend of voices. In this approach, the vocalists determine their own blend by moving toward and away from a single mic. The results here prove that letting fine musicians and vocalists take control of things themselves can often yield wonderful results!
This is my second comment regarding this song, and it’s because within the first comment and now, I have come to the understanding of the lyrics of this song to the extent that it applies to my present unfortunate predicament. In all, her smile lit a 60 watt bulb in my house, and I really wanted her to stay. I really feel sad.
I know microphone patterns vary, but every time I see someone failing to use a microphone properly for a speech, I think of this video with seven folks moderating their volume around a single mic.
Maybe only for the bass, which unless wired up does suffer in single mic situations. This was a perfect live mix, done by the musicians themselves. Chris Thile's band Punch Brothers always performs like this now, and occasionally they even step away from the mic completely.
This performance reminds so much of the Last Waltz movie when Joni Mitchell sang as a silhouette in the background to the Band Robbie Robertson, etc and Neill Young. As was the case then, I sense Aoife O Donovan is being crowded out by the guys here. I can see how her demeanor has changed from joyful to serious towards the end of this performance. The Last Waltz was produced and recorded in 1977. It's now 2020. Has nothing changed!
save the world PC Principal. Look at her demeanour when she sings her verse, she's fishing for the admiration. then when she realises its a team game and she's just a guest, she pulls back. got nothing to do with gender, just ego.

She kind of reminds me of Bonnie raitt when she performed with John prine Song called "Angel over Montgomery" LIVE VERSION Some of his songs I like better live than the studio version: Via "Southern Star⭐"
Every concert should have only one mic.
the guy with the shakers has the best position ! ha
amen. Just wish they picked up more of the bass
Absolutely on the money. Looks great craic when they look like a group as opposed to a line out. ❤😂
That’s the difference between a concert and a show….. ☮️❤️ This is a show and a beautiful one at that😊
man she can sing
he also can sing
Just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb
..in my house
That was darkened for days
Been thinking you probably should stay
This guy. How the hell do you write that shit?
Friggin genius.
I loved that line too.
If I could go back in time and see this live, I would. Gregory Alan Isakov, Chris, and Aoife are probably my three favorite musicians and to see them all on the same stage is AMAZING
Me too!... and I love the Wailing Jenny's
Saw them sing it at the Ryman last year and you are correct
It's because they are so joyous making music with each other. Just being witness to it is a blessing as little sparks of joy and love fly out of the middle.

Music is oxygen to Chris Thile.
I just wanted to see this song live but I got 3 of my favorite musicians of all time on stage together which works too
Just a single verse she sang and she nailed it. Aoife gave different colour this song.
lyrics:
when the wine stops working
and you’re all run out
and all of your high hopes have all headed south
and the songs left the stable and they never came home
and there ain’t no forgetting that you’re out on your own
turned the scrub oaks to timber and you’re left without friends
and you don’t put your book down even after it ends
smoke curls up from the table in your quiet little room
and your heart’s worn the handle of an old pushing broom
broken bottles shine just like stars, make a wish anyway
just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house
that was darkened for days
been thinking you probably should stay
when the going is long gone
and the kick drum won’t kick
when you fumble with your fiddle and you’re fresh out of tricks
and the horseflies are biting but the fish never do
and your heart’s a thousand colors but they’re all shades of blue
broken bottles shine just like stars
make a wish anyway
just your smile lit a sixty-watt bulb in my house
that was darkened for days
been thinking you probably should stay
yeah, I think that you probably should stay
and our dreams on the windowsill
see those trees turning gold in the hills
Goosebumps when Aoife jumped in. Goosebumps!
This is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.
I sing this to my cat, since she's gotten me through suicidal depression.
I was there too once, Hoss.
Glad you made it through.

The respect for music 😭😭😭
I really miss this show

@@als3243 Best music saw them about 10 years ago in a little pub.
I'm 15 years old !
Love Aoife
Love Chris's face at the bass run. Legit did not expect that, did he? :-)
he just tossed the mando lick back at him
John grigsby-rock solid bassist who occasionally drops a virtuosic bass solo. GAI is lucky to have him!
Amazing band. I wonder what will take for the world to listen to him.
God, I miss Live from Here.

That fiddle lead in to the guitar solo--that was nice. Just, here, a solo is coming, surprise! It's guitar.
All those spare seats!! 😩
I think they stay and play after it's officially 'over.' That's what I heard...
I hope you that's true :) @@sgarrett9446

Wow! That lady can sing. 👀
It's Aoife O'Donovan. She can REALLY sing.
Some craic there. Love the way they are bunched together like a group. ❤
perfect combination that group of excellent musicians!!!
How are there empty seats at this? Magical
The best thing i ever seen...my god Gregory you sure can write a song...and everyone's performance was superb
Great sound, good times.
2 mics would be too damn many here. Just sayin. This makes my heart pump pure love & joy.
L♥️VE
what a performance 💙
fantastic artists
"Ooop yeah, guys, spread out. We've got plenty of mics...or no... ok. Sure, just huddle on the one mic, fine."

Gregory does this at all of his shows! But there normally aren't this many people
You must be new
Yeah, get in there, Aoife !
Beautiful souls 😊❤️🎼🎶
Love love love this!❤❤❤
IM SO GLAD I SAW THEM LIVE ON HALLOWEEN NIGHT
That's some mighty Fine Music. Pickin and Singing. Thanks again 🎶🎩🎶
Wow! 💚
Thank you!!

Where's the fun in that ;-) ?
Just wonderful ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely beautiful performance 👏👏👏🎶🎶🎶🌹🌹🌹
Just when I thought this song couldn’t possibly get any more perfect...... 😮😮😮
CHILLS when Aoife cuts in :|
I've got goosebumps as she sings. New fan of Aoife O'Donovan
Fucking brilliant.

LIVE VERSION
Some of his songs I like better live than the studio version:
Via "Southern Star⭐"
yooooooo i LOVE THIS SHIT. where are you coming next????
Does it get better than this?
Man she can sing but they seem to be unwilling to let her
🥵
Jesus fucking Christ!!! What the fuck is this beautyyyyyy. 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
Great video and great version but I kinda feel sorry/awkward for poor Aoife. She looks a bit lost behind all the men!
Maybe too observant, but lead guitar is not a fan of guest singer.
He wan go home.
I seriously doubt it. GAI only tends to invite/work with musicians that are his friends.
