I've been listening to and loving this song for literally 50 years, and this is easily the best cover version I've heard. Thank you Aoife, Chris et al.
No fancy costumes. No pyrotechnics. No laser displays. No gyrating dancers. No "watch me play a million notes a minute, just because I can". Just live vocals without autotune, beautifully delivered, and musicians playing to serve the needs of the song. And, of course, Joni Mitchell's wonderful composition. A goosebumps moment for me..........
This isn't an easy song to sing, and imo, verges on territory that should not be walked upon. However, this is beyond doing beyond justice to this incredibly personal and nearly "off-grounds" song. Just beautiful.
I don't know what perfection is, except that it is created in the mind of the beholder. I don't see the point of comparisons or critical dwelling on fine points. This is a stunning performance of a beautiful song. That's all I need to know.
So. For those of us who grew up with Joni and really, deeply know that no one can replace her... this gal comes pretty damn close in the most incredibly etched upon our soul song she ever wrote...
Musicians as good as this should continue to honor Joni Mitchell by performing her work - - to help us really appreciate what a gift Joni is. Among so many talents - what a complete instrument is her voice!
Still watching this after four years. Such amazing sensitivity, expression, feeling. You can tell by the expressions on Aoife's face - she is just not singing this - she is telling a story. Much like Joni did.
My goodness! I'm older than I care to say, and have been a adoring fan of Joni from the first, and no one can do her songs justice-but this cover...well...it's pretty darn good!
God I miss “Live From Here”. Chris is not only a genius and virtuoso musician, but such a student of music of so many genres, and he attracted such great talent to come perform with him, like Aoife, Critter, and Alex. Loved the quote of the bass line from the original, whoever played that.
I guess im randomly asking but does anybody know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I somehow forgot the account password. I appreciate any help you can give me

I believe this is one of the greatest songs ever written, and it is such a treat to hear this band take it on- the mandolin instead of dulcimer gives it a beautiful, gentle touch, and Aoife's vocals are just spot on.

Wow! An interpretaton of such an iconic performance. And nailed it. The mandolin player manage to give us a performance of Joni's quirky and simple dulcimer, without it being quirky and simple. Aoife's performance conveyed the essence of the song, (And it was an amazing performance.). The band was just, subtly there, which is tough to do in such a personal song. As someone who considers "A Case of You" to be the greatest popular song of modern times, I believe this performance nailed it.
OMG! Just discovering this beautiful young woman. My best friend and i bonded over Joni Mitchell in college. Aoife... you do her justice. Blessings upon you.
I absolutely love this version - its a brave singer who takes on such an iconic work and adds something more than imitation but Aoife managed to give me goosebumps ...!
I really can understand that musicans want to make Joni Mitchell covers. And I always adore how faithful and adorable and full of adore for Joni pretty all who did the covers did it. That is great!
Fabulous rendition ! You can't help hearing Joni because she is unique , and so few people could pull this off , but here we are and these folk are absolutely "channelling" this anthem - entirely making it their own . Masterful performance . Thank you .
A Case of Aoife ...splendid agreeing with Richard Malcolm : "I don't see the point of comparisons or critical dwelling on fine points" for sure the lady, and the band belong with the very best... together with many, many great artists
What a nice, un-nervous and laid back version of this great song. I love Aoife's expression and modulation. Watch the guitar player (not the mandolin), he is doing a great job, holding the hole song together.
WOW! To say I am impressed would be an understatement! Absolutely stunning! Beautiful performance and execution of a difficult song by one of my favorite songwriters. Thank you so much.

You Nailed It! ❤❤❤ Joni left pretty big shoes to filled & you did a fabulous job! Thanks for sharing! Wish you the very Best in your career & life! ❤🎉😅
The thing about Joni is that she is so peculiar as an artist, her little inflections both in voice and instruments, and the song construction itself, that only she can really do them total justice. But at the same time, perhaps because of that uniqueness, it is specially lovely to see other performers take her material into their own universe and make it their thing.
One of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs of all time. So beautifully done by this lady. Awesome. The differences are wonderful and the mandolin was very nice. Thanks for sharing this great piece of music.
Merci ! Tu es ma chanteuse preférée depuis toujours 🎶 Je suis violoniste et chante qlqs unes de tes chansons :) Adolescence en Irlande in the 80’ with my R & B sax and really good harmonica player boyfriend, when I listened to " The Glow " ,,, So sad but went through my heart ... I have loved you since 🎶 Hope so much to see you for real one day ... Miles away ... in Brittany 🎻
I don't watch the news any more. Too depressing. I wake up and turn on RUclips with all of my favorite Aoife O'Donovan, Sarah Jarosz and I'm With Her videos lined up, along with some Mandolin Orange, and then I'm late for work. But its great to listen in the morning while drinking coffee. Warning, don't keep your guitar anywhere near or you may never make it to work.
Aoife O'Donovan and Chris Thile performed an absolutely beautiful version of one of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs! Thank you! And Happy Birthday, Joni, on every November 7th!
One of my all-time favorite songs of Joni Mitchell. Aoife did a beautiful job on this. I still sing it a lot (to myself!), and know I could never sing it like Joni or Aoife. But, Joni's songs were the songs of my life... Thanks to you both!
I have to commend you for knowing this song....and putting it on your show...and being faithful to the song and not trying to "interpret" it in any way.
Brilliant, beautiful but mostly breathtaking! I was truly in awe. “Case Of You” is one of those songs that still touch me today the same way as if I were on the “”Edge Of Seventeen “! Lovely thank you.♥️✌️
I feel this way about the band “Eagles “. When we go to an Eagles concert all I wanna do is sing every song word for word with all of them! “Oh I could drink a case of them and still be on my feet I will still be on my feet” I miss just knowing that Glenn Frey is no longer in the atmosphere with us! Looking forward to 2/11/20✌️🧚🏻♂️
It's not that other artists don't "get" Joni's music, it's that they want to interpret it their own way. But yeah, all these musicians 👆 are so damn fine. Chris Thile is a genius improviser.
Check out Aoife singing "Farewell, Angelina" at the Hollywood Bowl several years back. She toured with Yo Yo Ma and his Goat Rodeo, which integrated American folk forms with classical. As you know, "Farewell, Angelina" was written by Bob Dylan at his most phantasmagoric and recorded by Joan Baez in the 1960s on her album by the same name. I feel about Joan Baez as many readers here feel about Joni-- that her vocals can never be matched. And I was wrong.
I've been listening to and loving this song for literally 50 years, and this is easily the best cover version I've heard. Thank you Aoife, Chris et al.

Easy on the dancers you cant see chumpy
Well said, Paul. Well said.
Aoife simply nailed it on this. She managed to honor Joni and still be quintessentially Aoife. Love them both! Great last chord!
Indeed
This isn't an easy song to sing, and imo, verges on territory that should not be walked upon.
However, this is beyond doing beyond justice to this incredibly personal and nearly "off-grounds" song. Just beautiful.
Agree with you 100%, but they take it to a new level that would make Joni proud, me thinks.
Yes
I don't know what perfection is, except that it is created in the mind of the beholder. I don't see the point of comparisons or critical dwelling on fine points. This is a stunning performance of a beautiful song. That's all I need to know.
AGREED I Am A LONELY PAINTER."
Could not agree with you more. Well said.
Agreed
Not good
You said it a million times right, beauty!
There may be only three female vocalists who give me chills - this woman is one of them.
So. For those of us who grew up with Joni and really, deeply know that no one can replace her... this gal comes pretty damn close in the most incredibly etched upon our soul song she ever wrote...
I thought the same thing. First time in 48+ years to come anywhere close!!
You are SOOO RIGHT. This song has remained in my heart ever since Blue came out. Best song on her best album, among many great albums!!
I agree with all your comments. Tough song to sing. Nicely done. Happy Birthday Joni. Thank you for ALL the many years of outstanding Music.
Man, that mandolin intro certainly did the song justice too. So beautiful.
@Lee Grant Yep, the emotion that Joni puts into this song is missing in this performance. It sounds like a song, not a confession.
Musicians as good as this should continue to honor Joni Mitchell by performing her work - - to help us really appreciate what a gift Joni is. Among so many talents - what a complete instrument is her voice!

Mandolin is a great choice on this dulcimer song, tremendous vocalist. So pleasing, I haven’t the words.

Restraint, feeling and sensitivity. All that the song needs. And it's all here, Wonderful!

Stunning.
And it was recorded live.
Now I’m thirsty.
I could drink a case of music like this.
OMG! Just discovering this beautiful young woman.
My best friend and i bonded over Joni Mitchell in college.
Aoife... you do her justice.
Blessings upon you.
The best cover of this song I have ever heard...Chris Thile too :)
Have you heard Diana Krall's version?
I absolutely love this version - its a brave singer who takes on such an iconic work and adds something more than imitation but Aoife managed to give me goosebumps ...!

Brings tears to my eyes and flutters to my heart
Its a Joni thing..same

Aoife Aoife Aoife, so sweet, so pure. Best arrangement and performance of this song ever. Joni, I hope you hear this.
WOW! To say I am impressed would be an understatement! Absolutely stunning! Beautiful performance and execution of a difficult song by one of my favorite songwriters. Thank you so much.
Sublime. Made this old man all emotional. Well done - Joni would be proud.
I am always surprised by Aoife’s voice when she starts singing. How perfect it is.

Gives me chills every time I listen to this. It's just perfect.
Thank you, thank you …
The fact that both Prince and Diana Krall have covered this song should be a testament to the absolute perfection of it!
Grandude Tonesnob Brandi Carlisle’s cover is worth a listen, too.
You Nailed It! ❤❤❤
Joni left pretty big shoes to filled & you did a fabulous job!
Thanks for sharing!
Wish you the very Best in your career & life! ❤🎉😅
Excellent! Stunning! Takes big courage to cover this one! So personal to Joni. And, she made it hers and
I believed every word. Bravo!
Her inflection and phrasing of the song is beautiful. It's almost as good as Joni (almost).
I love this version. Diana Krall has a good one, too.
The arrangement helped make this a very special version of one of Joni's GREATS! Well Done!!!!
Everyone, forever, can ALMOST reach the greatness of Joni!
One of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs of all time. So beautifully done by this lady. Awesome. The differences are wonderful and the mandolin was very nice. Thanks for sharing this great piece of music.
This is stupendously beautiful.

This is absolute perfection with Aoife's voice and the feeling she puts into the song i put this on loop and drift away
Wow! I tend to obsess over songs and go watch every version I can find. So glad I found this one!

Excellent cover....Blue was one of the best albums ever.
her mic technique is absolutely top top top ....and voice, so charming....right way to sing JM, esp this magical song
I am playing this every day ... she has become my favorite singer. The musicians in this set are extraordinary, and Chris a genius.
Happy birthday Joni and thank you Aoife!
This girl has her own unique style. It's beautiful . I hear Rickie Lee Jones in her voice.
I'm old but this makes me feel young...
My god I could fall in love with Aoife so easily.......
Such a beautiful voice. So glad I met Aoife once upon a time in Whelan's of Wexford Street!
First time I saw Aoife O Donovan was with the Cincinnati pops Orchestra years ago. I was just blown away! And I still am every time I see her.
I almost pressed like before it started.
You do Joni Proud! Bravo! DaveyJO in Pennsylvania
wow. first cover i've ever heard that probably does justice to it. WOW. I'm a new fan.
including prince's, which was no good, in my humble opinion.
She is awesome, singing with heart & soul, much like Joni always did
Breathtaking version.
Defies grace , exceptional beyond articulation
congrats, Joni, you deserve it.
this is so o beautiful and complex like Joni... Aiofe and Thile and band: incredible!!!
Oh, those vocals. Less is more. Loved it. Just when you think there's no need for yet another cover of this classic - there is.
A stunning rendition of this song Aoife Joni would be so very very proud of you….
Noone does it like Joni. But I would pay to go hear you.
Does justice to an iconic song and artist.
I am a classical music junk, only listen to Rameau, Bach, Handel, Rachmaninoff. But I like love this very much, what a voice, what a good musicians
Aoife O'Donovan and Chris Thile performed an absolutely beautiful version of one of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs! Thank you! And Happy Birthday, Joni, on every November 7th!
Truly wonderful version. Even the imperfections are perfect.
Wonderful treatment of this masterpiece ^ could not have been done better.
O'Donovan ~ you hover
Perfect!
One of my all-time favorite songs of Joni Mitchell. Aoife did a beautiful job on this. I still sing it a lot (to myself!), and know I could never sing it like Joni or Aoife. But, Joni's songs were the songs of my life... Thanks to you both!
Goosebumps.
Superb.
I got here via "If I Go, I'm Goin" by Gregory Alan Isakov. So glad I found it.
Her voice is so sweet and soft ❤
Nooit genoeg van dit lied, en dit is een prachtige cover van Aoife!
Damn.! That was so fine!
So so so beautiful!
That was absolutely stunning....my favorite song of all time in a new jacket, simply wonderful.
God, that was gorgeous!
Fantastic. As good as Joni-worship gets.
Aoife is extraordinary

Aiofe O'D was in Crooked Still and is my current fave singer/songwriter. Try "fossils".

Yes!! Best performance of this song.
All I can say is Wow! Just an incredible version of this once in a lifetime song! Hats off to all the players and Aoife! 💕💕
