I'm always mesmerised how Aoife inhabits great songs heart and soul giving total respect to their majesty and mystery. I can only begin to imagine how much work she must put into an interpretation that pays such loving homage to Joni Mitchell's genius. She leaves her ego in some distant place. Thank you for sharing this.
She interprets Joni like no one else, and it has to come from a thought out love of the music. This is so much more than I like this song and maybe I’ll do a cover of it tomorrow. Diana Krall does justice to this also.
So smooth, that voice gets me every time. I typically cringe at the thought of Joni Mitchell covers. Joni's work is so deeply personal, I don't know how anyone dares step into that place. Aoife and the all star cast of Live From Here delivers once again. I'm left believing every word.
I SOO agree with you. Most covers don't convey the wit, and the non-sentimental but deeply felt emotions Joni sings so directly. The only covers I've been able to stand are Diana Krall's version of Case of you, and then Aiofe's cover here, and of Coyote.
This really brightened up my day as I stare out of the window of a Costa cafe at an awful storm outside Greeting from Lurgan N Ireland to all music lovers throughout the world who appreciate Joni and Aoife ❤️ Joe
So wonderful a touch with the mystic whisper and strong lyrical styles ..... anyone that can sing A JONI MITCHELL SONG is a very special vocal talent indeed !
Incredible! Just incredible. From that same gig, Aoife’s take on Joni’s “Coyote” was simply insane. All those little vocal intricacies... masterful. Ridiculously awesome! ❤️
Ms O'Donovan, this voice is beautiful. Knowing that you are in the company of Ms Baez and Ms Carpenter tells me your soul is as genuine as the day is long. Heard you sing a few years back on Translantic sessions. Wonderful to see you are resuming live performances. Been far too long. Stay safe. 🇨🇦
I saw an virtually unknown Joni Mitchell with 200 people when I was 16. I'm 72 now. James Taylor was the opening act. She didn't know him, he couldn't do a different song for an encore ( so he did Old Susanna again). There were grown men weeping when Joni sang. Taylor was so unknown, when I came back to Boston on a Tuesday, he was in another coffer shop with only two or three people, and me copying chords like crazy. He must have thought I was nuts. Incredible to be alive sometimes.
Wow--Joni and JT in the same concert! What a privilege. I want more details, though! Where? What year? If Joni was unknown, it must have been '67? JT must have been only 19 years old?
The ubiquitous Tommy Bukovac, known far and wide as the inimitable Uncle Larry, sent me here. What a sweet, beautiful voice Aoife has. Stunning performance!
Nice version. This is from Joni Mitchell's Blue album. I can't say how many times I bought it and wore it out or gave it to a friend. I have encountered few things in my 70 years as mind blowingly great as Joni. I would cover her songs too but they are too hard to sing.
This is just so great. I found Joni's Miles of Aisles going into my senior year of high school in a new state. This was '93, but the songs were and are still just so poignant. Your presentation is fantastic.
Through your inflection you add a unique warm and inviting yet stark intimacy that was contemplated but missing from the original. The mandolin player does a great job with the syncopation to set the tone for the music.
I am constantly impressed by all of the musicians surrounding Aoife, and Chris, and it's not always by the complexity and intricacies of their musicianship. This piece is so beautiful in the feel I get from the simplicity and silences between the notes.
It's rare for me to like a cover of a Joni song better than the original. I would rate this as equal. Aoife has the most wonderful voice. I also love the stuff she does with Sarah Jarosz and Sara Watkins in I'm with her. A true female folk supergroup.
Thank you so much for posting. Since September I played this song numerous times and finally decided to make a comment. Your beautiful voice continues to get even better and better ...like a very fine vine. -:) I sure you made Joni proud.!!! P.S. Your recording of Sting's Practical Arrangement is another cover that hit it out of the park. -:)
Aoife does not need to play her guitar with this world class band. That was not the intent. There is tremendous feeling and expression in her singing. You need to listen more carefully.
@@williambrennan8197I'm sure you are right but I just don't feel the song when she sings it the way I do when Joni sang it-a little too subdued-not the passion, the frustration of being misunderstood, I think I listen just fine and i have played and sang a lot of Joni songs myself.
I like Aoife's music, but in this one I cannot understand much of what she is saying! No projection or clear enunciation. Sounds good otherwise, though.
poor speakers ??? Just before our love got lost you said I am as constant as a northern star and I said constantly in the darkness where's that at If you want me I'll be in the bar on the back of a cartoon coaster In the blue TV screen light I drew a map of Canada .... ???

Well said. GBjj
Well said - others really twist the song, but she keeps it beautifully referenced
no one does Joni covers justice like Aoife. Bravo.
Uncle Larry sent me... This is beautiful. THANKS BUK!!!

I felt exactly the same.

Amazing... the mandolin.. the simplicity ... the purity of the lyric and Aoife's fabulous voice and expressive delivery
Really miss Live from Here.

Come on, y’all. This is the best! I can’t describe how much I love this girl.
So many epoch performances on that show. Bring back LFH.
One of the few rare Joni Mitchell covers that makes the grade. Aoife, beautiful!
amazing musician should be a household name. She is at my house. And Chris Thile, nothing more to say!
Jeez. As a singer, this was an education.
she has an amazing voice

Joni's most romantic song. This cover is one of the best.
Lovely. Your smile brightens the day.
Your singing holds back the night.
This is the best cover of my favorite Joni song. Aoife’s interpretation is lovely, soulful and gut wrenching - I’m sure Joni would love this.
Brilliant .. great cover of a great song .. certainly did it justice 👏🎶🎸🎼
Rapturously beautiful

I knew I was going to love this song before I heard it!
Amazing and beautiful
Like everything Aoife does -- incredible!

That is better than the original!
Nancy Wilson’s version is also better than the original.
Please go boil your ears
Just wow. Eva Cassidy anyone?
I tip my hat to you, Madam.
Would be even more impressive if. like Joni, she could play instruments And express as Joni did!
