Amazing - thanks for sharing that detail about her kindness - that is exactly what I would expect based on what she shares of herself by the way she sings - I hear generosity, vulnerability, and authenticity. Her singing goes straight to my heart.
I've never heard or read bad things about her attitude towards people. We all are entitled to have our bad days, but she is so down to earth and just great to people. I am so glad she is someone I look up to. I feel like I know her so well by listening to her music.
@@imonohana Look too at the music and lyrics of Waitress the musical that SB wrote/composed and shepherded onto Broadway. Such a compelling story so sensitively done. So sad we no longer have Live From Here to bring us gems such as these, and another great loss not hearing Gaby Moreno anymore on the public radio platform.
69 years old, and this song and performance just wrings me into a puddle, thinking of my precious late wife of 31 years .... I could put this on a 24 hour loop, but it probably wouldn't be productive. LOL
Peace to you brother - she's listening with you. I'd like to think that when good people pass their souls are in everything that moves our souls while we're here. That's what I wanna be when I go.
I'm 77, a former singer, and a connoisseur of love songs, and I think Sara writes them better than most everyone. Her songs have no "mush" in them, and are very "real." I have wasted love along the way.
This song just breaks my heart. It is the most accurate description of allowing someone to love you through anxiety. She is such a gifted storyteller. 💜💜💜
In under a year from this broadcast date, the pandemic shut a lot of the world down. Among other casualties, we lost this amazing show. Oh gosh, please bring Live From Here back for us. It really mattered a lot. I think it would matter even more now.
This is just about everything. So glad to be living in a time where Sara Bareilles, The Milk Carton Kids, and Chris Thile are creating so much moving music.
The volume of talent in those few square feet is mind-blowing. There are few who can so seamlessly evoke brave truths of the heart with such lyrical vulnerability and beauty.
I agree, isn't that usually the way. Except for this song. The original is more nuanced than she can be here, especially in a few key moments, even though this is a fantastic version, her voice amazing, flawless. And it is emotional, absolutely. In the album version, her emotions just drip and lag, and fall off the edge of smooth the slightest way that is searing, exposes a rawness the way Bonnie Raitt does at her best. Only mention it in case someone hasn't listened clear-eared to the album.
Keep coming back to this masterclass of songwriting and delivery. Perfect arrangement, perfect vocals, perfect song. What a tender thing to put out into the world. Also props to the sound engineers; they always deliver.
Yet another example of Sara's genius in song writing and performance. The simplicity of the strings and sweetness of the vocal harmonies keeps me coming back to this song again and again.
Lyrics: Could I rest here for a while Near that medal 'round your neck St. Jude's wearing a smile He wouldn't mind I bet I can't go face the world My bones won't hold me up So tell the saint of lost souls where to find me Softly sleepin' here in the deep end of someone who loves me You'll let me cry it out 'Cause you know that sometimes I can't stop And still I'm seeking how To stand up when the bottom drops The weight of all the world Can blind me to its beauty But every time I need to be reminded I know you will, and say you're still someone who loves me I try to push it down But it comes back faster and harder Tides are changing on a dime And I'm just trying to keep my head above the water Surrender's just a word 'Til you try it out And see how hard it is to hurt With someone else around I'm the worst I've ever been Afraid of almost everything The skies are clear but storms are always comin' Your gift to me Is just to be Bracing for the winds I always summon My home, my heart Thank God you are Someone who loves me
@@ronsando2205 Sara Bareilles wrote the song but this composition was put together with the help of The Milk Carton Kids. It's originally preformed on piano.
Sara Bareilles and the Milk Cartoon Kids = beautiful perfection. Keep coming back to this song to remind me of beauty in this often angry world. Thanks for the love you share ❤
Totally agree! I listened to the album than had to go to youtube hoping for live versions. She's just such a nuanced, beautiful performer that I almost feel like too much orchestra takes away from the performance. So glad she does plenty of live stuff!
Consider yourself among the fortunate who know about Sara Bareilles! Also check out anything by Eva Cassidy if you haven't. Sara is one of the best live singers, if not the best, in the world today! Simply flawless.
I've seen and heard many beautiful things. Grace, elegance, harmony, MUSIC. I have been moved and altered by such things. I have felt love, in such painful, wonderful abundance, but I've never been star struck before. DAMN! I am for her. I am head over heels , in ridiculous, "let me count the ways" love with Sara Bareilles, a girl I will never know. She makes my heart soar, and sore simultaneously with the rise and fall and the slightest turn of her voice, the crinkle of her nose, and the sight of that tiny murder of crows etched upon her exquisite neck, just behind her ear. Having said all that, know that I do not suffer from any delusions and I meant it in the most non threatening way.
Will miss this show so much ...especially magical moment like this! Thanks to everyone who was part of this show and brought some blessings into so many lives!
I think of this song in so many ways. Romantic, platonic, familial. it is so hard to allow people to love you when anxiety is a constant force telling you otherwise
Have listen to this song at least 200 times the last month. Its the perfect song! The voice, the guitars, the harmonies, the lyrics. I have sent it to all my friends just to show what music is all about! Have learned the chords, try to remember the lyrics, sings along when noone is listening, drops a tear of joy. Thanks!
Kenneth does his little embellishment and looks to her to make sure he stays tight to her next phrase. Sara's smile in return says so much. Musicians enjoying one another's talent in the midst of a performance makes everything that much better.
Amazing talent on that stage. Hats off to the audio engineers. We live in a time where we are blessed with the artistry of some very very talented individuals. Thank-you.
I saw Sara, and Joey, separately at little Room Five in LA, 10-15 years ago, when they were both starting out (I still have their self-made CDs).. so great to see their authentic heart-centered music finding a wider audience. So beautiful.
There is something special in her eye on this record. It could be a billion different things, having done/starred in Waitress. All I know is that I love watching her evolve. She was good, she will always be great
sara really holds the post for all who are disenfranchised. every lyric she seeks, are the words of all the angels that we seek the acceptance of. her angelic tone, and altruistic words are no less than a premonition of god. i love her so much. she speaks out for those in the lgbt community that i might not agree with, but as her words come to a fold, i cannot disagree with both mine and the gay community as becoming one.
I've sung her accolades before, and I can't stop - Sara deserves all the praise and recognition (and love from me and so many others) she is getting. She remains vulnerable, honest, weak, strong, beautifully human, and speaks Truth in a World that very often seems so deceitful, chaotic and unhinged. She is a constant support to me from afar - and yet, not.

I have lost count of the number of times I have watched this. It may be the best live performance, of any song, ever.
Agree 100%

Lyrics:
Could I rest here for a while
Near that medal 'round your neck
St. Jude's wearing a smile
He wouldn't mind I bet
I can't go face the world
My bones won't hold me up
So tell the saint of lost souls where to find me
Softly sleepin' here in the deep end of someone who loves me
You'll let me cry it out
'Cause you know that sometimes I can't stop
And still I'm seeking how
To stand up when the bottom drops
The weight of all the world
Can blind me to its beauty
But every time I need to be reminded
I know you will, and say you're still someone who loves me
I try to push it down
But it comes back faster and harder
Tides are changing on a dime
And I'm just trying to keep my head above the water
Surrender's just a word
'Til you try it out
And see how hard it is to hurt
With someone else around
I'm the worst I've ever been
Afraid of almost everything
The skies are clear but storms are always comin'
Your gift to me
Is just to be
Bracing for the winds I always summon
My home, my heart
Thank God you are
Someone who loves me
