- I love rum, but it’s taken me a while to figure that out.
Whilst browsing them shops of Cadenhead’s in Edinburgh, most would come away with some cool, single cask whiskies. This would normally be the case for me, but the rum really took me by surprise.
This single cask pick of Jamaican 13YO Pot Still Rum has been bottled at 46% ABV and is so lovely matured in an ex-bourbon cask. The aromas of passion fruit and chocolate that come off these things are unbelievable - and it still have some of those classic ‘funk’ notes that are associated with this particular rum distillery in Jamaica.
It was bottled quite a while ago and still sits on those Edinburgh shelves, so please do pop in to see if you can grab yourself a bottle for just over £50!

I have found alot to love in the rum world recently. Hampden 8, Veritas, Black tot, Worthy Park, Clement. The Boutiquey rum company signature number 1... all so unique and so different from good single malt. More rum content would be fantastic. Thanks.
More rum content it is! Might save me a bit of money, too!
Definitely would love to see some diversified spirits content - rum, agave spirits, and brandy.
Perfect! I've got rum, Tequila and Armagnac to get on here! Plus a million bottles of whisky
More rum reviews would be awesome ! Armagnac too
It's gonna happen!
Welcome to Jamaica have a nice day
The sun is welcoming.
Started getting into rum a few years back after suffering a bit of whisky fatigue. Foursquare being one of my go to distilleries. Amazing stuff
Four Square are too good! It's gold standard stuff.
Nice review! You are spot on about expanding your horizons with spirits. It’s good to get a fresh perspective, another point of reference and new tasting notes. I’m doing that with bourbon and rye now. I have been curious about rum but don’t know where to start, so this is good info. I have some samples from a friend I need to get to and review. Cheers, Phil!
Get those samples reviewed, man! I've fallen in love with rum and agave. Mor reviews to come!
You should colab with creative Precious metals mate. He does a WW every week
I'll take a look! Always looking for new whisky friends
The best rum i ever had was back in the day was from Nepal. There had been efforts to import it export it, i was told, but the strength was not consistant enough to pass the rules for western market. Or at least so i was told when i asked why the f this is not available worldwide. ( given how good it was )
Where did you try it? In Nepal? Or was it smuggled out and sampled at home?
The word Funk is used in whisky reviews, although I prefer it when its used in music! 🎷🎸🎤🥃🕺🕺🕺
Both works very well!
