    I love the idea of being able to try these, but am also torn - what if you spend £100+ on a dram and find, like the Dalmore, that it was... meh? Or possibly worse, you try it and it's the best whisky you've ever tried? But you know that short of a lottery win, you're never going to be able to afford a bottle, and unlikely to get to taste it again?

    • @TheWhiskyBaron
      @TheWhiskyBaron  3 месяца назад +1

      I’ve had both experiences and I have to say, I’ve never felt hard done by. If the dram is amazing, I’ve had the rare privilege to try something I wouldn’t otherwise be able to. And if it’s terrible, I haven’t wasted my money on a bottle! A dram of something old and rare is always worth a punt IMO

    I love Glenglassaugh, but would never leave a whisky in a PX quarter cask for 50 years. Probably an orphaned cask that was never ready for bottling or lost in the warehouse over the bumpy ride the distillery has had over the last few decades.

    • @TheWhiskyBaron
      @TheWhiskyBaron  3 месяца назад

    ahah, on to serious stuff there, Jake....that Craigellachie sounds great, i was very close to try the 41 yo under the counter at W.L.P. but finally coudn't come back to the stand to get it, so just tried the new 23, the 19 & some others...On the Dalmore 40 yo I'm not surprised, I did shock once Richard telling him "there's a bit too much sulphur on the nose, don't you think ?" (lol), not the same batch you had I'm sure (as I tried it a long time ago, Richard does no longer attend this show), the palate was good, but I tried some 1973 & 1974 vintages that did beat it imho & also a stunning 40 yo Jura I wasn't expecting to be so good, not being a fan of the 30 yo much. Glenglassaugh 50 yo I haven't tried but have good memories of a 40 yo decanter back in the days...Also that Glengoyne sounds terrific ! Slainte !

    I don't know what it is about Craigallichie but I haven't had one I like yet. I'm sure this one is better than the 13 and 17 though. Dalmore has good spirit but they tend to water it down and drown the flavor. I bet that Glengoyne is like syrup. 😂
