Duty Free Whisky at Heathrow 2023
I must admit that I was slightly concerned by the direction of conversation when you started talking about "Safe Spaces", welcoming "all" genders and asking people to leave if they break these rules. I was thinking, oh no, has the Whisky Exchange gone all Woke and fallen down that diversity, equity and inclusion rabbit hole which has destroyed many a great brand and could arguably be responsible for the Republican US Election victory recently. However, when I looked up the WhiskyShow website about Safe Spaces and Etiquette I found that it's talking about Responsible Drinking. I now understand her comments to mean the true meaning of diversity and not the DEI political mindset version. I think that Dawn was talking about real diversity of seeing both women and men at the show, the diversity of seeing different ethnic groups and different cultures and religions, all coming together in an atmosphere of mutual respect, to celebrate and enjoy the universal love of Whisky (in a responsible manner). I'm sure, [almost] everyone could support that kind of diversity.
A very insightful interview, the questions really focus Dawn Davies' story. She comes across as a lovely person and so genuine. So different to the cold commercial marketing person one would assume would be in charge of purchases at this massive online sprits store. I was fascinated by her accent as well. So English, yet she seems to slip into an American accent on certain words. I'm sure there's a story there. I could not agree more regarding experience in different alcohols. How can you you make an accurate assessment of any whisky unless you have that base point flavour experience of what different wines taste like, the difference between Fino, Oloroso and PX sherry. Port, Aged Rum and Bourbon. Without these, you cannot even begin to analyse the flavour components and how they interact with a Single Malt Whisky. Sounds intuitive doesn't it but not many even serious Single Malty Whisky lovers actually take the trouble to investigate the alcohols which make up the previous contents of those casks which influence the malt spirit so much.
Interesting her take on sales , my choices are probably the exact opposite she’s seeing in the market.
I loved the interview and more so enjoyed the hand gesturing battle 😂
Super passionate. What a great interview!
Oh, so exciting! Thanks for sharing this amazing trip! Hi from Ukraine. It's not easy to get these incredible Campbeltown whiskey brands here, but I have managed to get hold of Longrow 21 today, and I'm in heaven. I can only imagine what you have felt when testing the 32-year-old version!
Great interview! I’d love to visit Cotswolds Distillery. I really love the work they’re doing there. Very nice drams. I'm also curious to know where in Italy Rob worked (i’m italian 😂)
thanks for tuning in Simon, glad you enjoyed this one! definitely a must visit when you're next in the area. sláinte
Another gem of an episode plus Ian is dominating life in a quilted sweater 😉 & Rob rocking a “Baron’s” beard Definitely would be interested to try this brand… yet to see it in the states where I’m at unfortunately 😔
thanks Chaz, glad you enjoyed it! shame to hear their juice hasn't made it onto a shelf near you yet - hopefully that will change soon! keep your eyes open for them, lots of great things to come. sláinte
Ahh living on the otherside of the world I'd love to be able to visit these distilleries!! Maybe One day, until then these videos will need to do 🙂
I'm glad we can help you live vicariously through us John! hopefully we'll see you on this side of the pond one day soon!
Love the cotswolds, the sherry cask is fantastic
great shout!
The honest discussion about STR was brilliant. The benefit to a new distillery is obvious but I don’t know if I’d discount the concerns about STR as myth. I visited a Cotswolds shop a year ago and the tasting was fruity and pleasant but dominated by the STR character. Glad to hear they have a 7 year and some small batch diversity at the distillery. I’m sure the tourist demand is high, but look forward to increased variety and more mature Cotswolds in the future.
lots of exciting things to come out of this distillery for sure! thanks for getting involved Franz, we appreciate the support! sláinte
Great interview with Rob. So passionate about what they’re doing at the Cotswolds Distillery. Have to admit other than a few samples I haven’t tried much. Definitely going to look more into what they’re doing. Can’t wait to try some more. Some of those special releases they’re planning sounds very good!!
definitely worth spending some time with some friends and getting to know the lineup as they have some real gems here. thanks for tuning in and supporting as always! sláinte
@ Can’t wait for an all English episode. There’s some amazing drams being produced by the likes of The Lakes, Wire Works, Cotswolds, Spirit of Yorkshire and more. 🥃
@@gms201 we'll see what we can do for you!
I’m sure Jim Swan was a main character in the Filey Bay Distillery. They use STR also. I’ve tried Cotswold and it’s a decent dram. Also got a bottle of Filey Bay IPA whisky and that’s also a decent drink. Would be class to have a side by side taste event with just English whiskey.
you're spot on Sean. and an English heads up is definitely something we're working on, so stay tuned!
I visited the distillery a few months ago. Had a great time, lovely and passionate people. Also took home that hand filled ❤

Great video. I've visited many distilleries over the last 15 years or so, Glengoyne was the first one I ever went to. Haven't been for a few years, must go back soon, it's a lovely place and the whisky's not bad either!

Looks like you had great day there and would love to sit and chat to the staff over a few Drams bet they would have some good whisky stories to tell thanks for going there

I wonder if you got a taster of the batch #10 Teapot Dram & if so would you purchase it for £140?
we were lucky enough to try the Teapot Batch 10 during our visit on Uncut and it's spectacular. I've personally purchased two and I'm fairly sure Stevie and Ian also grabbed one each

Wonderful tour gents. I have to say, I was really impressed by their wall of progressive annual whisky’s. What an excellent way to demonstrate cask influence over time and the effects of time and angel share. Well done.
Thanks Jan! their whisky wall is phenomenal isn't it - definitely a pit stop for your next Scottish escapade! sláinte

Another wonderful close up tour! The Baron’s beard flowing stinking of sweet malt 😂
thanks for tuning in Chaz, glad you enjoyed visiting Glengoyne with us!
Been there. Great tour
you know it! what's your favourite expression of theirs?
So which element has the greatest bearing on the colour of the liquid, the cask, or the previous fillings? I ask because Charlie Maclean's view is that the colour is only coming from the wood. But if that were the case, why doesn't the AO ex-Bourban casks impart a reddish Hue to the whiskies in the display?
colour does only come from wood. American Oak generally matures Bourbon first and then Scotch, so the colour is a slightly lighter golden than that of a Bourbon. European Oak generally matures sherry/wine, so the colours provided are slightly lighter ruby hues. hope that makes sense - the great thing about Glengoyne is it's all natural colour!
@TheWhiskyBaron maybe it's only wine that imparts the reddish colours. Only way to confirm is filling in virgin EO. At least from a colour perspective, it seems like the display suggests that extraction happens with time, I.e. longer in cask, darker the colour. But wouldn't that suggest it's just the wood that's imparting colour and not the colour of the previous liquid?
@@adhominemsis-t.australisensis no, you'll get the red from sherry also - in fact I don't think Glengoyne use any wine casks. you will get colour from fresh oak and. you'll get more again from charred casks, but the red hues are either directly related to previous fillings or they're the result of colour being added
@@TheWhiskyBaron by 'wine' I meant sherry as well. Sorry for the confusion.
@@adhominemsis-t.australisensis no stress - you're pretty spot on then!

they certainly stretch the million litres out very well! thanks for getting involved Bradley, great to hear our community are also enjoying this beautiful single malt
Brilliant video guys well done , Glengoyne is a distillery i really must visit asap.
you should grab that Teapot #10 in the meantime Colin - that'll have you racing up to the distillery!
Great tour of what looks like a fabulous distillery! And one who knows exactly how and what they want to achieve. So clear in their processes to know they could make more but it would be to the detriment of there spirit. Another great episode!! Hope there’s lots more like this to come.
thanks for the support Greg, really appreciate you getting involved. and you can be sure that there's loads more coming - as I'm writing this we are currently on location in The Cotswolds and Ian is currently filming your next instalment of The Enthusiast Series! stay tuned my friend

@@koomer1459 thank you!
What a lovely tour, and credit to the staff for their input. Whilst I still have some Glengoyne in my collection (heels), I now see it as one of my gateway whiskies in the sherry matured domain. Also something I am unlikely to buy anymore. It suffers from being at 43%, and whilst we applaud the natural color there is no mention of chill filtration. There are so many other sherried whiskies to choose from now that are affordable and comparative, that Glengoyne no longer stands out.....I am thinking of Glendronach, Glenallachie, Edradour and Aberlour. Ultimately I think the marketers at Glengoyne should consider 46% and the return to a 750ml bottle size. When out and about, say at a bar or restaurant, I would have no hesitation in ordering a Glengoyne and would be confident in it. But with so many high quality sherry matured whiskies available, I don't see me buying any for my home collection, but lovely to see the distillery......thanks for a great video, cheers Charlie
Not gettting any nice vibes at all. Harsh, aggressive and acts like he owns the place. Not enjoyable at all. This video does not sell any Glengoyne..
Shame to hear you didn’t enjoy it - seems as though you thought the same about our Glenallachie tour, so I’m not sure why you’re putting yourself through the hardship of watching something you so clearly dislike. Out of interest, why do you think I’m aggressive?
Proper weird you mate
