- Since Blender 4.0 snapping has gotten a lot faster and more accurate, thanks to the new Base Point feature. In this video we look at how it works, and how it can help us.

When pressing G to move and B for the snap base, move over another mesh and you'll be presented to A key to set snap POINT. Set two or more snap points via A and then move the mouse away from all meshes and left click to place the snap base between the set points via A...
Well, I didn't know that! Thanks a lot for mentioning this.
@@BlenderSecretsadd it on this short video maybe?😅
@@reg-pi1sr Unfortunately that’s not possible.
I think the double-A snapping has been in Blender for many years, but now, combined with the new snapping capabilities, it gets extra power.
@@reg-pi1sr I added a short video to the Community tab.
In all my years using Blender since transitionning from Maya, this was the one feature I missed.
Amen. I remember furiously trying to find a replacement.
The friendly pivot addon was probably the closest you could get.
yessss
I used to change the origin every time I wanted a more precise snapping transformation. At one point I simply changed the keyboard mapping to toggle between origin edit mode to the key "insert" like Maya does with the pivot. However, I find this an even better and elegant solution, don't know why it took so long. I guess it's bc Blender relied so long on the cursor, which is brilliant but it's confusing for people that are new to the concept, and it was a slow method since it required you to change it in the menu all the time.
Pressing A can pick average of multiple points like middle of a point, centre of a triangle etc.
Most missing feature , i donni why blender team take age to do this ..
That's surprisingly useful thank you I'm gonna update it soon🎉
i couldn't snap 2 cubes by faces so the snapping one has rotation. rotation option is on, it rotates, but not as it should be
why i can not use snap base, when i click “g” and“b”,my mouse just turn to a circle and does not snap anything ,but i can use snap base in a new file, can you help me fix it?
It doesnt work for me in Blender 4.1. Do you know the right keybind for this version?
I can't use blender help.
When I open blender, the blender launching screen appears then it suddenly crashes.
How do I fix it?
oh my God, this changes everything. It almost feels like using CAD now. A little more and I can use blenderBIM instead of autocad
I started learning blender in 3.4 and quit for a while... just now getting back into it with 4 and just found this...man... blender is serious buisness with this finally... seems such a common sense feature... also the geometry nodes are blowing my mind... is blender the only 3d software with this feature? (the geometry nodes i mean)
But in tools like sliding you can set multiple snapping points that leave little circles as indicators but I can find anywhere that explains how to then snap to those points. It's very frustrating.
Blender at 4.0 yet you still can't change the rotation increment from 5 to 90/45 degrees for archilwiz sad noices
i used to use an addon for it called quicksnap now it's not needed anymore, this is basically the same thing and more
How do you snap bones in pose mode only to "bone head and tail points"? The idea is for bones not snap to anything else like meshes, curves, or any other object? Bones only snap to bones.
nothing happens when i press B after G.... 🙃🙃
is this a new feature how come i never knew about this??
That's what i'm looking for more than a month... Snap like AutoCAD thank you
We've been looking for this for YEARS :)
Great
Why I can't choose the center of the face?
a feature that saves HOURS on scene making!!
YES! I hope they will develop collection snapping as well. That's a real pain, especially with the asset browser.
BTW - noob question! Demostrating the function in Edit mode, you "rounded" the edge with a couple of loop cuts (?) - I don't know how you did this! Bevel? IF it's in your awesome book, I'll be happy abou6t the page number!
The "rounding" of the edge with loop cuts is Bevel indeed. Select the edge you want to bevel, press CTRL+B and drag. Scroll the middle mouse button while doing this to increase/reduce the number of edges.
I think he just beveled that edge
@@xayzer OK, so that half brain of mine does work in a way. Thank you!
Ok it has been enough years now, where do I buy this online book of yours...

thank you!
That's so weird, snapping on my end doesn't behave the way you show in the video. When I press G and then B, I only get the option to snap to/from vertices (the square cursor appears), I can't select middle of faces/edges as snap points (the triangle, hourglass and circle cursors don't appear for me). I even switched from Blender 4.0.0 to 4.0.1 just in case, but get the same result. Is there some sort of setting I need to change?
Perhaps you already set some specific options in the snapping menu, like snapping to vertices?
@@BlenderSecrets Thank you for your reply! You are right. For some reason, I assumed the new snapping system would be independent from the snapping menu settings, and the snapping options would change dynamically depending on what my cursor is hovering over (I come from CAD and Sketchup, that's what I'm used too). Anyways, thanks again!
@@xayzer The A option discussed by @nurb2kea in the first comment can also be used with vertex snapping to set the base point to the mid point of an edge or a face. Not exactly like CAD or Sketchup but quite efficient.
In 3.6?
i would like to notice that snapping icons not correct. it should be circle for vertices and square for faces
agreed?
JFC! I did my waiting! 12 years of it!
This updated snapping feature is sooo welcome. The last one was working randomely for me. That was soooo frustrating.
Damn I need to update better snapping is a game changer regarding speed in my workflow
This is freaking amazing, the pivot is simply B
This is really cool, blender just keeps getting better every day, also thanks for communicating how to use it in such a simple form.
Great feature, this will make life a lot easier
Super useful addition in B4!
I waswaiting that for years
Yeah it took so long to add snapping I'm not even surprised about it this should've been there in the first place literally a basic feature
good tut
Thank you 👍
Thanks this is so useful, I like how the bottom line has a reminder of possible options after you press "G", including "B Set snap base"
This happens on most tools that have these sorts of live options. Keep an eye out down there.
😮

The Bonus feature "Alt" doesn't seem to work for me (4.0.1)... It ends snapping base point after holding LMB + Alt when attempt to navigate? What did I do wrong?
LMB will set the base point, so you can't use that. Instead just use the MMB to navigate.
