I have a retay gordion in 12 gauge and i couldn’t imagine owning any other shotgun. It’s the best shotgun i have ever owned. Insanely tight groupings, slim, lightweight, and reliable. I recommend Retay sounds to everybody you won’t be disappointed.
Picked up a Weatherbee element after watching your review on them. Using mine for upland hunting 26 inch barrel. Went out all day yesterday pheasant and chucker hunting my goodness best semiauto shotgun I have ever shot. Regardless of the price I put it up against anything else. What a value what a reliable 12 gauge auto and what an amazing price. My new favorite shotgun maybe my new favorite gun overall. Thank you for your review I would not have even considered this if I had not seen your full length review on the shotgun.
I own a lot of shotties. Do a lot of sporting clays and lately been participating in a 5 stand league. I purchased a Benelli ethos sporting and man it has done well. Went from shooting 75-80 clays out of 100 to 88-95. Won a lot of golden clays in 5 stand. I had one golden clays with all my other shotties combined and got 4 with the ethos.
@@TargetFocusedLife have you tried to contact blaser or whoever it is to get a sauer sl5? I have heard alot of people wanting to buy this shotgun but are waiting on more reviews. Randy Wakeman is the only one I know thats done it
10 years of shooting a franchi. Agree 100 percent. Watched a lot of guns fail during duck season. Franchi has always run good even in the worse conditions.
I have only shot one once and it was briefly but the Beretta A400 Xplorer in 20 gauge was one of the best shooting light shotguns I have ever shot. It pointed like a target gun while being under 7 lbs. That could have been my subjective experience but i still look at it longingly every time i see one.
YES!!!! Franchi Affinity! Great gun. Love it! Thanks for reviewing that gun. Makes me feel better about my choice. Most people squint when they hear Franchi. It’s not well known
Great job Steve !! Looking forward to next year. Specifically, #1 the CZ Redhead (All Terrain) , the over under for water fowlers #2 the Weatherby Sorix and 3rd the Weatherby Orion SXS. Stay Target Focused ! jmp
I picked up the Sorix 20Ga a month ago….if you got the money just get the Benelli. If ya don’t the Sorix and the franchii are really close and I’d almost go with the franchi
Any experience using the ATA arms shotguns? Iv been using the ata neo black synthetic for 5 years now and love it bought it for 599$ Canadian and iv used and abused it and still works flawlessly
own both the retay and the franchi and if i was going on a trip and had to choose one it would be the retay all day any day. the ability to take the entire gun apart with no pins and clean or deal with any issues that so far have never happened is worth everything. 3 seasons so far and i cant remember there being a single issue ever.
I have a SBE3 and wouldn't trade it for anything. I thought about getting the SX4 but have read tons of reviews about how easy they rust. Went to Scheels to look at one and there were small rust spots just from sitting on their racks.
Another great review! I love the feel of my Benelli Vinci but shoot my A300 better...If i wanted/needed a new Waterfowl gun i'd go with an A400 or Franchi
Can testify your review of the Weatherby Element is 100% accurate, pros and cons i own it in 12 and 20 gauge, got them "used" for $1300 shipped and transfered. The 20 gauge is a dream to shoot, and the 12 gauge is still very managble. The quirks like the difficult trigger pin you have to hammer out and on both models, and the allen screw in the stock needs a lock tight treatment, but the ergos are amazing they drop birds. I might get a gas powered 12 for even lighter recoil, but the 20 is perfect. When are you reviewing the Sorix?
Desperate to see a review of the Benelli Vinci…so many available now for a good price and hardly any good info out there on them! Great video and can’t argue with the winners!
Redesigned monefeltro should be up there for value upland gun. I can’t remember if you reviewed that one or only the old version. Also, I wish the Ethos Cordoba came in a camo version.
I shoot a benelli M2 20 gauge for ducks and maybe I’m biased but I feel like it’s one of the best guns I’ve ever had 😂 I feel like everyone just shits on benelli now cause of whatever reason but I still love it
So interesting that I was already looking at buying a Benelli Ethos for some upland hunting just because I saw one and it looked amazing. Very surprised to see THAT as your top pick. Question though. Do you suggest 20ga or 12ga? I grew up shooting 12ga but I'm considering 20. Any pros or cons?
I’ve been around a lot of these guns shoot trap and waterfowl hunting. I shot a A5 for 3 seasons and I wouldn’t take one for free worst shotgun that’s been in the blind. It worked great the first season and after that had to clean it after ever hunt and hope it would cycle the next day. I’ve never been a benelli fan for the feel of it and the click. Best water fowl gun in my opinion is correct with the a400 and second is the maxis 2 which I shoot. But the a400 was the only gun to cycle all 3 shells in negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit
Even Benelli loves them so much that Benelli acquired them them some time back before 2010. I have the instinct L in 12g. Should have bought the affinity as well back then it was only $699.
a400 xcel mt... no surprise. just got one 2 months ago and fell in love with just how much fun it is to shoot. just the best pointing and mounting feel imo. great pick especially if you can get a "y" gun.
@@jrowinski82 because they are cheaper! Y a400 mt came to me almost 30% price difference. I'm not rich so $800-1000 means a whole lot of shells for me and the nephew.
Have the Berettas a400 extreme plus in 12 and a300 in 20. A400 extreme plus is far superior!! Im a gas guy, but find myself wanting a Retay Gordian. AMERICA!! GOTTA LOVE IT.
Great video! I would like to share that I bought a SX4 in August brand new chambered in 3.5 and it has cycling problems with 3-inch shells and will not cycle 3 1/2 whatsoever and the butt stock is starting to come loose. I have thoroughly cleaned it and inspected it multiple times and I have filed a repair return through Winchester and am waiting response. The gun is very lightweight and is balanced and has amazing ergonomics and 2 and 3/4 run fine but I got the gun to shoot big shells and it does not run them very good at all I will also say that I have multiple family members that have the SX4 as well chambered in 3.5 and they have not had any issues and I would hope that Winchester would fix this problem for free seeing how I bought the gun brand new and it has issues and it is not user error as I have experience with waterfowl hunting and shotguns my whole life and have thoroughly inspected and cleaned it multiple times just wanted to share this with everyone.
I had 2 Franchi affinity 3 elite both 12 and 20gauge put a 1,000 rounds through each wanted to love them but neither were reliable for me even shooting high brass. Traded for a Benelli SBE3 in 12ga and a Benelli M2 in 20 gauge and haven’t looked back.
Sleeping on the stoeger m3500 for the budget. Picked mine up for 600$ in bottomland camo I’ve shot over 300 shells all different loads never had a malfunction, lightweight and has decent patterns with stock chokes. Highly recommend for anyone just getting into waterfowl hunting or someone who doesn’t want to break the bank for an inertia driven shotty
Stoegers are turds. Just Benelli copies made with inferior parts, so while they may run good for a while… they will fail. Those inferior parts wear out quick. And 300rds is nothing. Report back when it’s got 10k+ rounds and is 15 years old, if it last that long.
Best upland is Benelli Ethos Upland Performance Shop...my son and I both now have one in 12 gauge...a dream to shoot. I ordered a Browning A5 20 gauge. Wanted to spend less $ but didn't love the price for the features of the original ethos. Hopefully I don't regret that when I get it.
Have you reviewed the Sauer sl5? They have a wood version and then a camo that's specifically says for waterfowl and then the also have a turkey version with a short barrel and pistol grip. I would love to see the sl5 waterfowl in the fred bear camo stock and cerakote receiver
I'm loving this channel, thanks for putting together so much good info and quality videos. I do have a question, and the answer might be "get two" but I'm looking for a shotgun that can do two things: clays and B.A.D. (Big Animal Defense). I go camping out in Florida and would like something in case I need to handle bear, boar, gator, etc. Seems like those are two opposite ends of the spectrum. Was thinking about a mossberg 500, but semi-auto seems like it has a lot of advantages and I'm leaning that way, maybe a bit more towards the 940 now. Thanks!
I own a Weatherby element, great shotgun, use it for turkey, pheasant and clay. I have the 20 gauge one, the only issue is that you need at lest 1200 fps otherwise it won’t recycle the shells.
I had one. Was very very hard on that gun. It always ran. Never a shell it wouldn’t shoot. They’re just big. And I’m a smaller guy. But it was good enough my brother bought one and so did a buddy of mine. Mine ended up getting stolen and I replaced it with a retay Masai Mara and I like that gun a lot. Much more sleek and it shoots straight. Hard to explain really but my percentages have increased exponentially. It’s nothing for me to kill 15 dove in 17 or 18 shots. 6 ducks in 8-10 shots. The guys who hunt with us are always surprised when me and my brother have our limit and they have 2-3 birds and we’re unloaded just calling birds for them.
Steve, I bought my dad a Mossberg 940 Waterfowl for Christmas after watching your channel. After 22 rounds the trigger died and the safety locked up in the fire position. He’s gonna send it back to Mossberg. It also had cycling issues with target loads. I am also in the market for a shotgun, I will probably buy myself a Beretta
That's disappointing. Sending it back to Mossberg is the right move. Most guns I review, I only have one of them to test. The 940 Pro, I have a handful of them and I haven't seen that. Sorry you have to deal with that.
Thank you Steve, great work, but I disagree with you on the Benelli, it is not what we used to know in the 90s when it was durable and quality, the recoil is high and gives me a headache and the barrel rusts, the design is similar from 1984, I prefer the Browning because of the quality, durability, low recoil and ease of hitting the target
Very awesome and interesting video! Do you have a video comparing the uses of a semi auto compared to an over under for certain shooting needs!? Perhaps I'm just too lazy to scroll through your archive of videos...just wondering and keep it up!
Hey! I’ve picked up a new shotgun this year. I think it would be a good gun for you to review. It’s inertia driven and not very well known. It’s called the GForce One. I love mine and haven’t had any issues with mine out in the field yet. I’ve taken it out for upland and waterfowl hunting.
Sx4 is the best. Id say the Fabarm is but mine hates cold weather & is very picky about duck loads. Have several weak primer hits on several brands of ammo.
Man. I can't believe how much Benelli was not on here. SBE3 in 20ga for upland... light and reliable, can be found on sale for a very reasonable price. Just picked up a cerekote/camo one for $1600 out the door. And it's very adjustable.
Almost bought one, but went with the Browning A5 20: gauge. Lighter and the easy removal of the plug were the selling points. Haven't got it yet, so hopefully I don't regret it because the franchi affinity upland elite looked nice.
How often do you update the website? I noticed the Maxus 2 is ranked higher than the A400 Extreme Plus under waterfowl, but you have them reversed on the video (7:04)
I like the mossberg guns I’m looking to upgrade from my maverick 88 to an auto trying to decide between the 935 and the 940 935 is more my price range but I don’t know if I should just spend the extra few hundred bucks
I have a retay gordion in 12 gauge and i couldn’t imagine owning any other shotgun. It’s the best shotgun i have ever owned. Insanely tight groupings, slim, lightweight, and reliable. I recommend Retay sounds to everybody you won’t be disappointed.

The A400 shoots nicer and patterns better. You can get an A400 for all of these categories.
Compared to other prices that’s still expensive. I paid $300 less for an affinity 3.5 Elite
@@Bugbee86 The A400 is a better shotgun, and it will hold its value better than your Franchi.

Mine as semiautomatic. A400 xtreme plus mossy oak and a400 upland
I like the mossberg guns I’m looking to upgrade from my maverick 88 to an auto trying to decide between the 935 and the 940 935 is more my price range but I don’t know if I should just spend the extra few hundred bucks
Any chance on a review for a Otus Smx 12?
