    The serpent coiled beneath his throne is the kudalani serpent. Nergal's not saying the devil is beneath him, he's saying the energy within him is of the devil. Behemoth's older work has a lot more references to Hinduism and tends to have little to do with mainstream Christianity.

      Afaik any Hindu god can be addressed in any way. It is said, that the dark way can be very powerfull quickly, but doesn't bring your soul further on its path like the pure way. As your spirit is getting older and wiser, it is going to feel an urge to advance to a higher form of beeing.

    For clarification, black metal isn't strictly about lyrical content. It's about the sound. Same with death metal. Behemoth is most often categorized as "blackened death metal," which basically just means they use too many elements of both to fit into either alone. Not blackened metal, blackened death metal. It's like how jazz fusion is a cross between jazz and rock.
    Also, "left hand" relates to the left-hand path and right-hand path. There's a wiki page on it that could explain it better than I could. It's old stuff, Nergal didn't create it.
    I'd further argue that if anyone's ambidextrous, it's God; his hands are likely equally strong.

    • @HughSelwynMauberley
      @HughSelwynMauberley 6 лет назад +7

      Hey Zeus the origins of black metal aren't satanic, not even for the most part. Bands like Darkthrone, Immortal, Satyricon, Enslaved and Ulver have songs like Vikingland, Call of the Wintermoon, Kledt I Nattens Farger, 796 (Slaget Om Lindisfarne) and The Pagan Winter which has to do more with with paganism, their heritage and the extreme cold weather of Scandinavia than with any satanic stuff whatsoever. In the case of Mayhem they may have link themselves with satanism but only for shock purposes of their leader Euronymous, while their lyrics have to do more with the same subjects as the other ones, I mean what "The Freezing Moon" has to do with Satan anyways?.

      Blakkheim- Yes, the first wave bands were hugely influential to the development of black metal. And, you know, there were other scenes outside of Norway.

    When pagans talk about right hand and left hand path it usually refers to the context of the magic being used. Right handed magic is usually beneficial to others, healing magic and protection for example while left handed magic is more focused on self, sometimes at the detriment to others.

    • @VinAndSori
      @VinAndSori  6 лет назад +9

      THAT is good intel!

    • @Scizyr
      @Scizyr 6 лет назад +4

      I can respect that, I was speaking from a more broad chaos magic perspective. When you boil it all down the left hand path still focuses on self, as you said even as a Luciferian. I believe all magic is inherently grey, but it is the user's intent which colorizes it either light or dark, left or right.

      Decade of Therion would be interesting for them to do symbolism breakdowns on the official video. The sigils are off the charts lol. I recognized a couple from "The Black Pullet" grimoire. I understand that most occultists don't consider that "real" occult-text. It's a romantic story of sorcery, none the less. It's worth a read.

    I just wanted you to know how grateful I am for your work and dedication on this community you have created, I am so glad to, in some way, reach to people so open-minded! I'm at that point in life, Sori mentioned in a Behemoth reaction before, where you are seeking and asking questions, and not finding that answer you want, and finding you guys has been the greatest experience, and just as Vin said in a previous video, no matter the religion , what you believe or think, our goal should always be love as many people we can and listen to many stories and points of view as we can in this short life.
    I consider myself an atheistic agnostic but still looking for what really fills me with what what I feel complete, but above all that, is so amazing for me to hear you and learn so mucho from you.
    It is great how some 10min long videos out there bored me to death, but your videos always feel so short and interesting, like speaking with a friend.
    Really really love u guys, hope you read this at some point, I respect you so much, and send my best wishes to you and all your family.
    Sorry if my English is weird at some point, I am an Spanish speaker.
    Greetings and much love from Colombia

      He uses satanical themes and anti christian themes to fight against religion.
      Specially in his own country Poland he wants an absolute seperation of church and state because the church is holding back his country.

      It's "la ilahe illallah" and it means "there's no deity other than Allah". Allah means god in Arabic, it's the same god Jews and Christians have, Muslims only don't see Jesus as God's son. Also the saying is Arabic but the accent there sounds Turkish and they probably heard it while touring in Turkey, hearing the prayer calls.

    What is funny is that later this summer there is a music festival (Ilosaarirock) here in Finland where all sorts of bands and artists perform. A lot of pop artists and old time artists that a lot of elderly folks listen to, but then there's also Behemoth :D. To be fair, there's also other metal bands, but Behemoth stands out with their extreme metal. Satyricon also plays there. A few years ago I went there to see Sunn O))) and Wintersun but also saw some great EDM artists. It's a very interesting mix of bands in one festival

    He's not a misogyiist nor his expression misogynistic, nor talking about sublimating women as lesser than. not fully and properly contextualized and understood. He's talking about males and females natures{which are objectively different, through evolution and bilogy and psychology; different but equal} working together co-operatively-in harmony.
    The "harlot of the saints/mother whore" is in referance to Babalon- who in occultology is a goddess -whore/harlot refers to the feminine nature- a metaphor about such{feminine nature; in jungian archetypalism; being OPEN- or RECEPTIVE, open minded, nurturing, and strong in her individual ways}- a play on jungian archetypes. }. Both female empowerment and male empowerment- culminating in INDIVIDUAL empowerment.
    You have to understand what the occult symbolism means to get it.
    By "restriction" he/they[and the lhp ideas] is referring to authoritarian and "mob"{as in angry controlling mobs- and their repression and witch hunts} IMPOSITION by force. Not against "restriction" per-se; you will find that he and other satanists and LHPers are all for self-control or self-dicipline{a form of restrinction; learned and aquired restriction; in other words controlling ones own actions and taking personal responsibility for such and being aware that other indivduals are capable of and should do the same- so we can live peaceably}.
    "Oh snake thou art god coiled underneath my throne" - he's talking about kundalini yoga and the chakras- represented by a serpent in symbolism{not the devil- in the sense of the christian or muslim devil character}. Qabbalah, hindu yogism and buddhist meditations,etc.
    Nergals Satanism is mostly for shock value. Nergal and Behemoth are better interpereted and understood as "chaote occultists" influenced by several diffferent, intercoonected types or strands of occultism and paganism; Satanism but evenmoreso gnostic Luciferianism and even more than that= Aleister Crowleys "Thelema"{which technically is a Right Hand Path-in theory, more a middle path in practice}, qabbalah, egyptian and sumerian/babylonian mytho-poetic referances, and just traditional paganisms as well, and the western enlightenment, amongst other influences. Basically he/they are about the concept of balancing out of and unification of opposites{for example when he sings 'wandering neither way of light nor darkness, which seed sprouts in summer of my life"; basically balancing out and unifying these two seemingly opposite principles andother seemingly opposite principles; the understanding that opposites define, refine, and perfect each other}.
    In other of their songs you will find allusions to divinity and God in a more positive sense- when they refer to this they are basically infering to the Deistic and/or Pantheistic notions of God/the divine.
    They use satan and lucifer and "devil/demon" as symbols to refer to aspects of the divine/God{as they also will sometimes refer to the more angelic/light side notions of the divine/God}-or to symbolize aspects of the self{but will also refer to the angelic, divine, and light to refer to aspects of the self; again with the unification of opposites/balance}.
    It's easy to understand if you study occultology deeply and also various other spiritual and religious and philosophical traditions apart from the abrahamic alone. If you do not- you will not properly understand it and may in fact misunderstand and misrepresent what they are talking about. Which is understandable, as even some LHP-ists and some atheists and some rationalists will make the same error of misjudging religions or RHP or christianity and/or abrahamic and revealed religions,etc.
    One must deeply research ALL{as wel as philosophy and science, and various other fields} t grasp and comprehend the bigger picture and the balance

    I’ve always seen the left and right hand (7:00 about) as the strong hand and the clever hand, as in music where the right hand is typically doing the mare strength and endurance task of strumming/picking while the left hand does the more precise and dexterous work of fretting. I was thinking this could be construed of a path of deception and trickery on the left and straightforward strength on the right in Christian theology

  • @tylerbrass4002

    I consider myself a Christian, I believe, and I pray. When I was younger I got into a lot of crime, and drugs, and since I got out of that life, I have been committed to the idea of leaving this world, knowing, that I left more positivity than I did negativity.
    For a while, my love for metal, especially bands like this, and anything sacrilegious in music in general, gave me a lot of reservations when listening to/enjoying it. But as I grew, and prayed, I came to realize that My choice in music doesn't really affect my mind, and my heart at all, and I think God understands that, and gave me the free will, and intelligence to explore ideas which may be contrary to the way of the Lord, if he wanted us to mindlessly obey, I dont think he would have given us that. That intelligence and free will allows me to overcome these things in my own heart, and to be confident in God's power and respect Man's knowledge, and achievements as well.

    Behemoth - The reign of shemsu hor

  • @Iconoclastithon
    @Iconoclastithon 6 лет назад +1

    Just so you know. Behemoth are what is termed a "blacked death metal band"{which is a fusion of black and death metal aspects- to varrying degrees depending on the band}. Behemoth started out as a pure black metal band in the early 90's, but after a few albums became this fusion{and for awhile they were allmost an equal mix of the two}; but as of the early 2000's{perhaps even slightly before} they have been mostly{in sound} a death metal band- the only element of them that is black metal anymore is their image.
    To the untrained ear one can be forgiven for not understanding the distinction between these subgenres; however they are quite easy to distinguish from each other even after only a few exposures to each. Confusing them or not getting the difference is like not getting the difference between country and soft rock or soft rock and hard rock or rap and bubblegum pop or punk and heavy metal.
    The two have some notable distinctions. Death metal contains vocals that are generally "guttural"[with varied inflections of such; low cookie monster burps to yell-growls} with occasional screams{not like the general "shrill" screams of black metal, but more like screams or raspy growling}, it generally is more low tuned and played brutally- with lyrics usually inspired by fandom to horror movie type content and such shock value for fun, sometimes it can also be occult content{usually more for shock value than for deeper occult teaching; though it can vary}- and sometimes what is called grindcore death metal{which typically is a fast attack of generally shorter than most death metal songs, usually with socio-political messages content or with an emphasis on gore}. Death metallers typically look like your common thrashers or heavy metallers{usually they don't have corpsepian or make up,etc; just jeans and metal t-shirts with long hair}.
    Black metal is usually much more atmospheric and etherial sounding or with a low fi or low produced raw sound and vicious fast attack- with riffing and drums that are not focused on "brutalness"{like death metal} but on a darker theme. Black metal vocals typically are what is called "shrill" scream vocals{of various inflections} with the occasional grunt or yell type growl{not the burpy "guttural" of growl of death metal}. And typically{though not always} the image is of corpsepaint/warpaint{black and white only} with big ass spiked gauntlets{death metaller, thrashers and heavy metallers also wear gauntlets sometimes, but generally they are just studs or smaller spikes, and usually only on one arm maybe two but not on other limbs} decked out on both arms and sometimes legs{shinguards} and often in hellrasier/pinhead{horror movie} type leather outfits or bondage type gear at times and often they take their pics in all this but also with firebreathing, weapons like swords or axes, and so on. Their lyrical content typically is either deeper occultism or superifcial reverse christian devil worship lyrics{in these latter cases, usually only for shock value} or paganism{generally norse/viking, though not exclusively} and themes of nihilistic despair mixed with misanthropic rage, nature, coldness{and grimness}, emptiness.
    Death metal is generally more FUN entertainment, black metal is moreso often more serious and sincere in it's darkness and hate and despair{or nihilism and misanthropy}- though there are always exceptions of course.
    And in a few cases you have death metal bands that focus on positive things or even one or two{not many more} black metal bands that do the same{"Samael" is a prime example}
    To compare the two genres and contrast them and better understand their differences- look up the black metal bands Marduk{both their music and their image} or Emperor{sound/image} and contrast that with say Cannibal Corpses or Deicides or Obituary's{for death metal}
    And blackened death metal is just some fusion or other of these two.

    You got far too bogged down on a word like 'whore' which isn't necessarily derogatory unless you have a certain view of what purity is. Having listened to most if not all of Behemoth's , I can safely say they don't have any negative views of women, Biblical characters such a Mary might be another case not because of their gender but of what they represent

    Why did Christianity put restrictions on women, rather than instructing the men not to oppress them and to treat them fairly? It's almost as if it was written specifically from the point of view of men in a medieval society, and not a doctrine dictated by God.

  • @benwebb4424
    @benwebb4424 6 лет назад +63

    Time to write a novel of a response. Going to number each of the points so if you respond you can toss a number in so I know what you're talking about.
    1. First thing, misogynistic sentiments in black metal? Nope. Sexual expression in art? Yup. That is how they get away with it. When Nergal sings about big floppy crimson dragon titties or whatever, it's not different than Madonna singing Expressing Yourself. It's art, and censoring it is dumb. IF what he is saying is truly misogynistic let people complain about it, but let him continue performing and writing. Art is about expressing, and telling people what they can and can't express will be the death of art. You don't have to like it, but there is plenty of art I don't like the message of that I have no problem with existing.
    2. if you think women don't benefit from pulling back the restraints on sexuality than you're underselling women. What about the women who feel empowered by sexuality? What about the women who need an outlet for their sexuality? Keeping restraints in place is oppressing those women. Restraining sexuality is oppressive to women.
    3. The bible isn't sexist, but paganism is? So women willingly choosing to be prostitutes is bad for women apparently. Meanwhile women should submit to their husband (Peter 3), women should be discrete, chaste, home keepers (Titus 2), women not being allowed to teach men (Timothy 2:12), and women shouldn't speak in church (1st Corinthians 14:34) is totally not sexist. Consenting prostitution bad, telling women to shut up and keep the home good. Got it.
    4. My main gripe with Satanism is that rebellion for the sake of rebellion is childish at best, destructive at worst. Rebellion for protest can be quite fruitful. We can both agree that the biblical Satan is a bad guy. However, I think the biblical God is a worse guy. Choosing Satan over God is akin to choosing Castro over Hitler. The correct choice is fuck both of them and conquer the world on your own terms. Why choose the left hand path or the right hand path when you can plop your kingdom in any spot you want it to be?
    5. Would I rather my daughter be a whore or be saintly? I don't have a daughter, but if I did my answer would still be the same. I wouldn't care. I wouldn't care if she chose to be a whore because it's her life. What I would care about is for her to have the ability to make that choice on her own. To have the societal freedom to achieve being what it is she wants to be without bigots like you ruining her life.
    6. If you think my masculinity is toxic it's because your femininity is frail.

    • @dirkdiggler6316
      @dirkdiggler6316 6 лет назад +1

      Ben Webb “6” isn’t femininity innately frail? And overt masculinity is toxic as is overt feminism.

    • @VinAndSori
      @VinAndSori  6 лет назад +20

      since you refuse to have an actual dialogue on the topic I guess we'll have to communicate in this forum.
      1. I know it's expression. I never said a word about censoring it. I did however wonder aloud about the hypocrisy of our culture that allows terminology like this to be used about women but would get you a black eye if used in actual parlance. furthermore, I do think it's an expression about a certain subculture and I was pointing that out bc it functions to damn itself without further commentary.
      2. I live in the real world. I know that the ideal is to pretend that men and women operate and experience sexuality in the same way, it's been unequivocally proven that we do not. so this has implications in the real world not the ideal world.
      3. much like my friend Aron ra, you quoted a bunch of texts but provide no context for any of them. You haven't demonstrated any familiarity or conversance with the cultural millieu of the author or the audience, or the point of what he was getting at so there isn't much to comment on here
      4. the fact that you can make such a metaphor means you don't know the god of the Bible. not much to say there
      5. you don't have a daughter, so you're speaking from your ideal. and as far as ruining lives. we've actually worked with women in the sex industry. we've cried with them when their babies are taken by the state. we've also visited them in the hospital and prayed for miracles when they OD'd on drugs bc they couldn't deal with the hell those lifestyle "choices" brought on them. We've also seen them shoved into abortion clinics by pimps. the fact that you speak about sex work as if its just another career choice proves you don't know the first thing about what a ruined life looks like, or why the vast majority of the women in world history and around the globe currently "choose" that career
      6. there is such a thing as toxic masculinity, but from what I've seen from you, I don't think anyone would label you that at all. you were the one that seemed to have an issue with my masculinity lol. I think this would be a good fireside discussion. anytime you're willing ben, we're here.

    • @benwebb4424
      @benwebb4424 6 лет назад +4

      I would argue that femininity isn't innately frail. I can think of a lot of strong women who exude femininity.
      As for overt masculinity and overt feminism, I am inclined to disagree but I have no solid opinion one way or the other. However, I am currently of the opinion that the freedom to be overtly masculine is more important than if being overtly masculine hurts the feelings of a few people. Here''s the thing - if you don't like someone you don't have to deal with them. Might be a big shock to some people but people like different things. Some men are hyper masculine, some women like hyper masculinity. Some women don't like hyper masculinity. Is one group more important than the other? I'd say no. Live and let live.

    I really respect that you guys do this. Even though I’m not Catholic/Christian (I’m Asatru myself, I believe in the Norse Gods/Goddesses). If I may, I’d like to suggest= some songs (If you haven't done them already): “Guardians of Asgaard” by Amon Amarth, "Hold the Heathen Hammer High" by Tyr, "Trondur I Gotu" by Tyr, “Einherjar” by King of Asgard. Keep up the great work you guys.
    Also, depending on who you talk too the Left and Right Hand Paths mean different things. For some people, the Right Hand Path is the side of Justice and Righteousness, while the Left Hand Path is seen as Powerful and "Taking what you want" and "Doing whatever you want"

    Have you heard Nergal's folk/blues/county/rock/something side project, Me And That Man? They only have one album so far and Nergal sings (clean vocals) about half the songs. It's not as good as Behemoth in my opinion, but is still interesting. I"d suggest "Cross My Heart and Hope to Die" or "My Church is Black." (Be aware that the official video for the second one does contain nudity.)

    I don’t usually comment on videos but I just wanted to say I really enjoyed this both as a Christian and a long time fan of black and death metal. Nergals lyrics are usually pretty intelligently written and I’m glad you were able to appreciate that and add your own perspective. I would add that if you’re not familiar with occultism you might miss some of the symbolism in the song. I think someone else already mentioned the lyric referencing kundalini. As for a request it’s symphonic metal rather than extreme metal but do The Rise of Sodom and Gomorrah by Therion.

    I was surprised you didn’t discuss the chant at the end of the song since I thought Vin would bring his knowledge on Islam for it! Great and awesome video as always, the analysis was enlightening indeed.
    Going back to the chant. The chant is saying the first part of the Muslim Shahada which is “la illah il Allah” (There is no god but Allah). Every now and then Behemoth adds some Islamic imagery. I have no idea why Nergal would put it there, maybe it has to do with his “meta-game” line where one must recognize in the great game of God, there is only one player (God) which of course makes it very one sided and unfair as some might perceive it as. Here’s my two cents. Keep it up with the great work!

    The left hand of God, to my knowledge, is Samael. Essentially he's the "darkest angel" or the hitman of sorts, also referred to as "The Venom of God" he acts as the main angel of death and is also the angel who reaped Job. I find him to be a very interesting figure amongst the hierarchy of God's angels because though he is still an angel, he does and condones things that the rest would not. Moses had this to say upon being introduced to him by Metatron in the seventh heaven "O may it be Thy will, my God and the God of my fathers, not to let me fall into the hands of this angel."

    If you take the view that the left hand is weak, then think about it this way: to stand strong at the left hand of God would be to have overcome whatever obstacles that God or Chaos or whatever you call it throws at you. It means that you overcame that weakness or handicap that was inherent in the condition and did it outside of the orthodoxy. It's definitely another situation where any of the dogmatic or mythological "ironies" are an intentional part of the imagery.
