Wonderful way to live...Many people who are tired of the city are looking to find what you all have...You're Blessed to have the land and young enough to appreciate it...We're too old but would love it if we could...May you always be so Blessed and be thankful of it and the one who gives... ...God Bless...
It’s our goal to eat off our farm just as you’re doing. Please keep continuing to do what you do even if it’s the same over and over again. I, for one, enjoy it!
I love the stool Jacob made for you--that will be something you'll always treasure! I also love the way you let your animals love life--you are wonderful stewards of God's creatures. ❤❤
No wrong way with feeding and moving chickens! Different ways to accomplish the same thing! Know people that feed directly on the ground, more organic matter. Some will move chickens and not feed them for an hour, forcing them to eat grass first. And of course twice a day! Zero wrong way to do it as long as the chickens move! Great video! Nice editing Meagan!
As Chris from Homestead the Hard Way says. He don't ring pigs because "rooting is all they really got and I hate to take that from them". I tend to agree with him.
I love your farm lifestyle. Ignore negative ppls comments. You're living a life that the vast majority ppl have no clue. Keep up the beautiful country living. ❤ 🙏
Me and my wife saw y’all’s interview with breaking new roots really enjoyed it. We got tickled when Megan said “squesed” . I say that all the time I told my wife ( see squesed is a word) she’s a school teacher and loves my country talk😁
I make my gravy like you do. I learned how to make it from my wife. She passed away about 4 years ago. She learned from her mother. I love your channel.
Love your videos! Y’all are the real deal! I just love watching you go about your life. Reminds me of growing up… you can eat all that food cooking you want!- cause you gonna work it off. Love seeing and hearing the children, they are watching and learning and playing. You have a beautiful Life, it’s so obvious you are a happy family.
Loved the way this was filmed. The view from the pig shed truely gives us the perspective of what it's like to see a homestead carved out of the mountain.Beautiful and alot of hard work put in from those before you as well as yourselves!❤
Just started watching your videos and am in joying them immensely! Being an 82 year old woman, my dream of doing what you guys are enjoying is gone but through you I can appreciate your hard work and due Diligence😊You better believe I will continue watching and sharing with my friends and family! Thank you!
My dad was a cook in the army in the middle east in WW2. This is how he has taught us all to make gravy. We do not traditionally use milk in our gravy, here in NZ, but he would thin his gravy with water from our vegetables. I eat occasionally at a cousin's house and he always mentions dad's gravy. Dad died in 1988.
My dad was a baker in the Phillipines shortly after WWIi and kept it as his lifetime job. He was a" from scratch" baker when cream was cream and they used real ingredients. Thanks for bringing the memory 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My Father was a Cook in WW1 in the Officer's Mess in France. He was a "Dough" Boy in the Army. He taught our Mother to cook, and she taught us to cook. Make our gravy almost the same way. I've never tried biscuits like that before, you can bet that I will now! My Father died in 1952, and I was 10 months old. I never knew him. I had five older Brothers and two older Sisters. We are down to 3. My 3rd oldest Brother, my oldest Sister, and me, the "Baby"! That is how she introduced me right up until she died in 1986. I'm soon to be 73 years young. This is my first time watching their channel and I like it. Brought back some great memories!😊 GOD bless
I was raised on good old cows milk that was cooled down in a spring or dropped down in the well in the well bucket we moved a lot but we kept the same cow for 15 years moved her when we moved
Ummmm, save me a piece of that tenderloin and gravy and biscuits!!! That's exactly the kind of cooking I was raised on, and how I cook at 70 yrs old!!! Hudson Cream is the only flour I use. Can't beat it cause it makes the softest, fluffiest biscuits!!!!!! That Jacob built you a perfect milking stool!! Way to go Jacob👍. I can't get over how all the "berry hill" has greened up and grown since last video. Delicious berries coming on! That bottom garden plot is beautiful. Good rich soil! I love little pigs. Those red ones are my favorite...well they're all cute as can be with their little curly tails!😊 The surprise baby chicks sure are sweet! Can't wait to see how many she's got. Definitely two's in there!🐣 See y'all next time👋
What a great life. You work so hard, raise your beautiful children and care for your stock, grow your food, ❤🎉and share it all with us. You are priceless.
You are the perfect farm wife. I tried doing what you’re doing on 240 acres in Iowa in the mid 70’s and you are by far the best around the house and farm that I have ever seen. It’s a joy watching your videos!
When I was little I took an old army cot and drug it underneath the scupper nog vines. I’d lay there for hours just reaching up and eating till my belly hurt ! Mama would come out the house calling me and I’d get real quiet and still. She sure couldn’t see underneath all them vines. It all went south real quick when daddy busted me and he put that peach limb on my backside!! Wonder memories y’all country living brings back. Love it !!!!! Thanks
@@nolagirlhomestead Now that’s something I haven’t eaten in 50 years or maybe longer. My granny had a huge mulberry tree. A tornado got that one and I know of not one tree in this part of the country ! 😢
This probably sounds crazy to most folks but I was raised on a farm, cows, pigs, chickens up until I was 6 years old and we moved where Daddy bought a motel business, I am 67 years old now and still could cry over moving but when I drive through the country and there is pigs or cows, I LOVE that smell, so many awesome memories of the short time on the farm.....I loved the big ol barn, also we would play in the corn crib and cows would come through so we threw corn at them to get em to leave and of course they never, LOL
It is an accomplishment for sure when one finally masters the art of making gravy. I watched and learned from my papa when I was young and passed those lessons along to my 3 daughters. My favorite is fried potatoes smothered with gravy.
We farm and eat very much like y'all And we understand exactly what eating what you grow is all about. If you want to live like this people. You will have to simplify. Cheers from the North
Good morning. I’m fairly new to the channel. I’ve been following for about a month now. Just wanted to say I love the milking stool. He did a great job! 😊
“It’s just the way we eat” 😊 . We ate that way growing up, still eating that way @67. Occasionally eat out or different but always glad to get back to my staples. It’s just good food in my humble opinion. And we grow most of it . What we don’t grow we buy as locally as we can .
Granny used to make what she called drop biscuits and I make them that way too, just make your batter a little runnier and instead of rolling them out, just drop by the spoonful into some bacon grease in your pan and bake
Love your show! The gravy you made looked great - I make mine the same way. We call it cream gravy. You only made one mistake. You didn't make any mashed potatoes to go with the gravy!! Here in Texas we ALWAYS make mashed potatoes and biscuits with cream gravy. Unless of course it's breakfast and then we just make gravy for the biscuits. But, you do what you think you gotta do. Lol lol. Good luck with your homestead and your show. Keep up the good work and stay healthy.
Enjoyed it, I loved it. Why are people so negative. And did you know, there is only one way to do everything 😂😅 oh my. Two acres of covered land is a mansion for 6 great big piggies. I'm so glad you go to great lengths to give all your animals their very best life. It warms my heart. Thanks

I love that you said "that's just how we eat". Growing up our menu was not terribly varied & it didn't need to be. Mom cooked what she & dad grew up on & we loved it. It wasn't fancy but it was delicious & we never turned our nose up at it for the most part. For those of us (mom & I) who could not stomach liver, tripe, heart, etc. mom did make us something we liked while dad & my brother ate the other.
We grew up in the country in Gainesville, Georgia. My Daddy Always Had Big Garden's. We Had Pinto Beans, Cornbread,Fried Taters, Gravy.... Fried Squash, Fried Okra, Fried Green Tomatoes, Green Beans.
Thank you so much. I live in suburbia in Round Rock, TX about 20 min north of Austin our capital. Was raised, my early years, til I was 10, 76 now, in the country. I miss it so. Although we cook the same. I make more cornbread than biscuits. Yours look soooooo yummy. Again…thank you.
What exactly do you think the electric fence does? No need to feel sorry for the animals, I’ve been shocked by the fence probably more times than the animals have 😂
Getting it done! Just got our strawberries coming in, too. Chopped and vacuum sealed our garlic scapes while watching. Learned something new about the brown paper to drain grease, thank you! Going to try that next time. And making pan biscuits, gonna try that too. Hearing the kids playing brought a smile to my face, I miss my grandkids most days. Best wishes!
I love how you cooking and how you living and I am just enjoying watching you first time and look people going to say things or make comments they don't understand I grew up in a in a teeny wee little house with 5 people and we were poor and mama didn't throw away nothing. And you have just refreshed me on what it means to live fresh, live, clean and live. That's good with god. With what god gave you so you keep on doing what you're doing, i'm loving it, loving it so that we're gonna make us, uh, oh mike😊😊❤❤❤❤
Just found your website ! Where do you all live ! The south of USA of course ! City lady all my life . Hardly ever had fried food . Loved watching you fixing dinner. Me....82 yr old in Sr Citizen Apt . in DFW area ! Tx . Will be back ! Thanks!!
When I was a boy we had a varied diet, One day we had taters and beans and the next day we had beans and taters. "Just kidding" . We were poor but we never went hungry a day in our life. We lived off of the farm mostly and you can't beat that anyway you slice it.
I just wanted to toss out a suggestion for you to try later in the summer when your corn comes in. Several years ago an older lady in the neighborhood told me I was working way too hard to keep corn in the freezer. She said all I needed to do was to pick it and leave the shucks and silks just like they are. Lay the ears in large brown paper bags, roll the top down and put a clothespin on it to hold the rolled part, and place in the freezer just as they are. Sure, you may freeze a worm once in a while, but he will freeze too and won't eat anything. Just cut him out when you find one. Corn frozen this way is the only way we do it now. It tastes like you just picked it. The shucks and silks just slide right off. Just thought I would pass this along. Give it a try, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Hope ya'll have a great week and God bless.
I love watching your videos! I especially love to watch you cooking and canning. Your family lives a good life you can tell just by the food and how when you see the children they are so happy and well behaved!
Hey Andy. Glad to see your crimson clover worked for you and you got the bio mass you wanted. I knew you would and the free nitrogen you’ll get can’t be beat. 👍🏽
You should try putting black pepper in your biscuits. It's delicious. I use a good teaspoon for about 10 biscuits. I also put enough butter in the skillet & roll the biscuits to cover in butter before baking. Doesn't need to be brushed with butter after baking. Yum. Now I want biscuits & gravy. ❤😊
For folks out there just learning to make gravy, try using water instead of milk until you learn to get it mixed right and at the right temperature. Using a fork beats using a spoon for getting the lumps out of the flour and mixed up good. You've gotta turn the heat down or it'll burn the flour and curdle when you add the milk. You've gotta add just a little bit of liquid at the first, cause if you add it all at once you'll never get it right. Milk costs too much to waste it. Obviously using milk makes a creamier gravy, but it's entirely edible if you just use water, and I have on many occasions.
Enjoy your honesty. Raised my children with a big garden, chickens, sweet potatos....and they alk remember and appreciate. Watching your videos is like having that neighbor down the road that also raised rabbits like you did for the rabbit truck.
great video guys ! I learn so much from you , from making good gravy to raising pigs , thank you so much for all the knowledge you put out there , it 's invaluable and so appreciated 👍
