- Today we are working on evening chores which include moving chickens, gathering eggs, milking the cow, preparing supper, and training our piglets to hot wire. Tonight we are having fried tenderloin with gravy, green beans, corn on the cob, and my famous square biscuits!
Biscuit Recipe
2 cups AP flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp Baking Powder
Combine dry ingredients
Add 5 Tbsp butter, cut into flour mixture
Add 1 cup(ish) of milk, slowly combine until you have a workable dough.
Flatten onto a preheated greased pan, cook at 425 degrees for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown. Butter the tops, cut out biscuits and enjoy!

Looking delicous
Wonderful way to live...Many people who are tired of the city are looking to find what you all have...You're Blessed to have the land and young enough to appreciate it...We're too old but would love it if we could...May you always be so Blessed and be thankful of it and the one who gives...
...God Bless...
Megan can be my Nurse anytime. So lovely and kind, smart Andy and their children are blessed to have each other. God continue to keep y'all in His love and care.
It’s our goal to eat off our farm just as you’re doing. Please keep continuing to do what you do even if it’s the same over and over again. I, for one, enjoy it!
Keep on keepin on my friend! Thanks for watching!
Wow it sounds so delicious 😅
Years ago I did the same ! Watching these videos makes mr feel nostalgic for the old days !
I love watching a country cook that knows what they're doing.
Gah, she had me drooling and it smelled so good in my mind.😂
We call it, "eating high on the hog". The joy on ya'll faces after doing a job is sooo refreshing.
That’s right! ☺️
As Chris from Homestead the Hard Way says. He don't ring pigs because "rooting is all they really got and I hate to take that from them". I tend to agree with him.
I'm glad to see someone else using a fork to stir gravy my wife thanks im nuts when I do it
My dad was a cook in the army in the middle east in WW2. This is how he has taught us all to make gravy. We do not traditionally use milk in our gravy, here in NZ, but he would thin his gravy with water from our vegetables. I eat occasionally at a cousin's house and he always mentions dad's gravy. Dad died in 1988.
My dad was a baker in the Phillipines shortly after WWIi and kept it as his lifetime job. He was a" from scratch" baker when cream was cream and they used real ingredients. Thanks for bringing the memory 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
My Father was a Cook in WW1 in the Officer's Mess in France. He was a "Dough" Boy in the Army.
He taught our Mother to cook, and she taught us to cook. Make our gravy almost the same way. I've never tried biscuits like that before, you can bet that I will now! My Father died in 1952, and I was 10 months old. I never knew him. I had five older Brothers and two older Sisters. We are down to 3. My 3rd oldest Brother, my oldest Sister, and me, the "Baby"! That is how she introduced me right up until she died in 1986. I'm soon to be 73 years young. This is my first time watching their channel and I like it. Brought back some great memories!😊 GOD bless
I love the stool Jacob made for you--that will be something you'll always treasure! I also love the way you let your animals love life--you are wonderful stewards of God's creatures. ❤❤
Little Man did a great job!
Has anyone else ever heard of Tomato Gravy? An old woman I knew from Arkansas used to make it, but I have never heard anyone else talk about it. 💙💯
My mother in-law makes it and it is delicious! Skyline , Alabama
Yes, I love it!
Mater gravy is the secret sauce of the south.
Yes my mom also used to make it 😊
I grew up eating tomato gravy. It’s the best summertime treat you could ever want!
No wrong way with feeding and moving chickens! Different ways to accomplish the same thing! Know people that feed directly on the ground, more organic matter. Some will move chickens and not feed them for an hour, forcing them to eat grass first. And of course twice a day! Zero wrong way to do it as long as the chickens move! Great video! Nice editing Meagan!
Thank you!
Me and my wife saw y’all’s interview with breaking new roots really enjoyed it. We got tickled when Megan said “squesed” . I say that all the time I told my wife ( see squesed is a word) she’s a school teacher and loves my country talk😁
It’s absolutely a word! Haha 😅
I love your new milking stool. It’s made with love.
Ummmm, save me a piece of that tenderloin and gravy and biscuits!!! That's exactly the kind of cooking I was raised on, and how I cook at 70 yrs old!!! Hudson Cream is the only flour I use. Can't beat it cause it makes the softest, fluffiest biscuits!!!!!! That Jacob built you a perfect milking stool!! Way to go Jacob👍. I can't get over how all the "berry hill" has greened up and grown since last video. Delicious berries coming on! That bottom garden plot is beautiful. Good rich soil! I love little pigs. Those red ones are my favorite...well they're all cute as can be with their little curly tails!😊 The surprise baby chicks sure are sweet! Can't wait to see how many she's got. Definitely two's in there!🐣 See y'all next time👋
That was a meal fit for a king! Yum
When I was little I took an old army cot and drug it underneath the scupper nog vines. I’d lay there for hours just reaching up and eating till my belly hurt ! Mama would come out the house calling me and I’d get real quiet and still. She sure couldn’t see underneath all them vines.
It all went south real quick when daddy busted me and he put that peach limb on my backside!! Wonder memories y’all country living brings back. Love it !!!!! Thanks
I feel like a deer munching on mulberries every morning! I can't pick just one 😅
@@nolagirlhomestead
Now that’s something I haven’t eaten in 50 years or maybe longer. My granny had a huge mulberry tree. A tornado got that one and I know of not one tree in this part of the country ! 😢
@@kennethvaughan8195 I miss the plum trees at Grandma Lilly house!
@@nolagirlhomestead
I’m sure you’ll agree !! I miss everything about those days. Didn’t have squat but man was it happy times
Im 63 now, started cooking at 10 years old. I always love to cook.
We always tied white strings on the electric fence and the pigs always knew where it was.
I make my gravy like you do. I learned how to make it from my wife. She passed away about 4 years ago. She learned from her mother. I love your channel.
Me too
Loved the way this was filmed. The view from the pig shed truely gives us the perspective of what it's like to see a homestead carved out of the mountain.Beautiful and alot of hard work put in from those before you as well as yourselves!❤
It is an accomplishment for sure when one finally masters the art of making gravy. I watched and learned from my papa when I was young and passed those lessons along to my 3 daughters. My favorite is fried potatoes smothered with gravy.
Love your videos! Y’all are the real deal! I just love watching you go about your life. Reminds me of growing up… you can eat all that food cooking you want!- cause you gonna work it off. Love seeing and hearing the children, they are watching and learning and playing. You have a beautiful
Life, it’s so obvious you are a happy family.
Good morning Andy and Meghan. Looks like a beautiful day was had by all! Enjoyed your interview. Good job! 😊
Andy laughed at putting gravy on his green beans, but that would probably be like green bean casserole. Yum!
We farm and eat very much like y'all
And we understand exactly what eating what you grow is all about.
If you want to live like this people.
You will have to simplify.
Cheers from the North
Thanks for sharing your experience, thoughts of homestead.
I really enjoyed your dinner cooking, and now I can make gravy.
Awesome family, god bless you always ❤❤❤
Good morning. I’m fairly new to the channel. I’ve been following for about a month now. Just wanted to say I love the milking stool. He did a great job! 😊
“It’s just the way we eat” 😊 . We ate that way growing up, still eating that way @67. Occasionally eat out or different but always glad to get back to my staples. It’s just good food in my humble opinion. And we grow most of it . What we don’t grow we buy as locally as we can .
The way you did your biscuits is genius! I’ve made hundreds and sometimes I don’t feel like patting them out. Awesome! Love your channel!
Man , I could smell those tenderloins frying.
I'm watching this at midnight and Damaging me hungry! Lol I wax hoping you'd show more of the chicken house!
Years ago I did the same ! Watching these videos makes mr feel nostalgic for the old days !

Lovely family, working hard together, a real team.
You guys are true homesteaders , doing a good job❤
Hi my friend! I hope you’re doing well. Have a wonderful day 😊☀️☕️
Maaan, yall work your butts off... and it's so joyful, thank you for your videos ❤
Good morning watching , drinking coffee, from Oregon
I'm willing to bet you guys are the same off camera as on... just good people.. happy hard working people. You're really doing it
thank you, we definitely dont put on a front for the camera
Very healthy looking pigs.
Enjoyed it, I loved it. Why are people so negative. And did you know, there is only one way to do everything 😂😅 oh my. Two acres of covered land is a mansion for 6 great big piggies. I'm so glad you go to great lengths to give all your animals their very best life. It warms my heart. Thanks
That is some good cooking. I miss living on a farm. Those were the best years of my life.
This probably sounds crazy to most folks but I was raised on a farm, cows, pigs, chickens up until I was 6 years old and we moved where Daddy bought a motel business, I am 67 years old now and still could cry over moving but when I drive through the country and there is pigs or cows, I LOVE that smell, so many awesome memories of the short time on the farm.....I loved the big ol barn, also we would play in the corn crib and cows would come through so we threw corn at them to get em to leave and of course they never, LOL
Lady you are special as you are a real farm girl and you are blessed to be able to do what you do and keep feeding your familey the old way I wish I was there to enjoy part of it my love for you and your famley. Robin Frazier liberty texas usa
I live in the mountains of north Alabama, most of my family are from Tennessee, you cook just like my mama did 😊 love your videos keep up the good work, God bless!!
I’ve never seen biscuits like this. Good job
I look forward to your meals so much. I love southern homemade cooking.
For folks out there just learning to make gravy, try using water instead of milk until you learn to get it mixed right and at the right temperature.
Using a fork beats using a spoon for getting the lumps out of the flour and mixed up good.
You've gotta turn the heat down or it'll burn the flour and curdle when you add the milk.
You've gotta add just a little bit of liquid at the first, cause if you add it all at once you'll never get it right.
Milk costs too much to waste it.
Obviously using milk makes a creamier gravy, but it's entirely edible if you just use water, and I have on many occasions.
Loved the video, your pigs are living their best life for sure
Good morning, precious family. Watching while I have breakfast. I already took care of my flock. God bless you and your family.
Andy, you are so right about the gravy! I love it too. I can eat gravy on gravy!!
We're making tenderloin today - in large part 'cause of you & this video. Luv Ya❣️
[Hubby's the real cook here 🤷♀️
He also made fresh beets with mushrooms, onions, carrots, salt, pepper, a touch of balsamic glaze].
Thanks for sharing your lifeskills w/ us 🙏🏼
Getting it done! Just got our strawberries coming in, too. Chopped and vacuum sealed our garlic scapes while watching. Learned something new about the brown paper to drain grease, thank you! Going to try that next time. And making pan biscuits, gonna try that too. Hearing the kids playing brought a smile to my face, I miss my grandkids most days. Best wishes!
98 percent blockage in carotid caused a massive stroke last fall . at 67 i stay away from lard these days . grew up on it . sigh.. on lean protein and rabbit food now. looks so good, delish.....lol
Just found your website ! Where do you all live ! The south of USA of course ! City lady all my life . Hardly ever had fried food . Loved watching you fixing dinner. Me....82 yr old in Sr Citizen Apt . in DFW area ! Tx .
Will be back ! Thanks!!
Watching you eat boxed cupcakes isn’t about flavor! It’s about the bad ingredients they put in it. It takes years to clean up your diet. Some things you never even think about. Then one day it will hit you and you will wonder why you use stuff out of boxes. It’s taken me years to change! One thing at a time! Check out the ingredients on the box!!
Not talking down to you, just reminding you what’s in our food. From a grandmas view.
You can jar up premixed brownie mix or cake mix. We live such a fast paced life. Shortcuts are necessary sometimes!!
Love watching your life! Doing a great job!!
I occasionally splurge on box cake mix and yes I do know the crappy ingredients ☺️ but I also only drink milk straight from my cow, use only fats to cook with that I raised on my farm, eat only vegetables and meats raised only from our farm, so on and so forth. I am not perfect or a purist nor have I ever claimed to be ☺️ this is about real life and I have nothing to hide, not even occasionally using box cake mix
@@TrueGritAppalachianWaysI think y’all do a fine job 👍 what a 🤡 ⬆️
Hungry little chickies. So cute.
Thankyou . Excellent program .
Fantastic video. Super informative. Love the cooking! That GRAVY!! YUM! We like to make chipped beef gravy and if I'm lazy, we eat it on toast. But, nothing beats biscuits! Thanks for sharing your life!! 🐷
My mom didn't grow up eating gravy so when she & my dad got married, she had a hard time mastering gravy. The first time she made it, daddy said "honey, pass me a slice of that gravy." LOL
😂😂 I may have had a few pans like that in the past! 😅
Oh my word, I am so happy I discovered your channel. How you cook is how I was taught since both sides of my family are from Appalachia, even though I was born and raised in Michigan. I think I'm making those biscuits today for Mother's day with my Mom.
I feed my meat birds 24 7
They are built to eat and grow non stop
The faster and more you feed them the faster they grow and the sooner you can harvest.
I built a wooden feeder with a handle, like a mini tool box with a piece of wood under handle to stop them from getting into feeder. I put full feeder at front of pen. It pulls all the chickens up then I pull tractor ahead. Then move feeder back to middle of pen. Helps with not running over birds. My tractor has a full length hatch door down one side. For easy access
Although I only do 25 in a tractor.
Thats just what I do. And it works great for me. Cheers
I tell y'all, I love your channel. Fun to watch and learn!
one day those diggin piggy's might find some truffles ~! boy they get big fast, nice chair for mom~! great job Team TG yum~!!! groovy gravy~! 🍓
I love that you can know what kind of feed your milk cow has consumed by the colour of the butter. Lots of people have no clue where butter comes from. Love from Ireland as always
I live in eastern north Carolina along the Pamlico river I grew up with my grandpa doing a lot the same things.im 53 partically Disabled my wife passed away 5 years ago my Daughter is grown.ive fell in love with Appalachian people & ways I've never been able to go out that way I would love to come spend some time out there maybe even move there you'd be surprised how much our ways are alike I grew up eating like that plus seafood because of the Pamlico river and Sound.i love the channel & video's.would love to come out& spend some time helping you all..
God Bless you all 🙏
Thanks for your cooking tips when I make gravy i've always used water but now I am going to try milk because obviously it probably be way better tasting😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁Used to just put butter and flour in a frying pan then add your graving tailings
Thanks for taking us through a day, I love watching you. From Australia
I agree on the green beans. I always start them first. Grandma always did too and I tend to think she knew what she was doin 😉❤️
It was my first time seeing your RUclips. Love it. True living
Thats exactly how we eat. It changes with seasons.
Enjoy your personalities and your homestead.
Hey Andy. Glad to see your crimson clover worked for you and you got the bio mass you wanted. I knew you would and the free nitrogen you’ll get can’t be beat. 👍🏽
❤ oh my..Toss Biscuits look AMAZING..
I finally found some white lilly flour last week (kroger of all places, we are in the north where it's hard to come by) and an old video of yours was among the research stream of biscuit making I watched. Thanks.
I also love white lily it makes excellent biscuits as well! I recently discovered Hudson’s cream and am enjoying using it as well ☺️
The name of the channel is perfect. 👍😎 My Dad always told me that I have that Grit, meaning that no matter what comes up I'm ready for it, now I don't know how true it is for me, but I stumbled on y'all a little while ago and I am completely convinced it applies here. You guys, awesome 💯 the only thing missing here is subscribers, I just found y'all today, don't know how long you have been here on you tube but this channel definitely deserves to have millions of subscribers seeing how living in this beautiful country should be 🌹 Y'all take care and God Bless 🌹👍
wow thank you!
I never get tired of good southern food either! And I am with Meagan I hate chasing pigs I think they are the worst of all livestock to catch to get back up in the fence!! Loved the video love your new stool Jacob done a perfect job for mama! ❤
I just wanted to toss out a suggestion for you to try later in the summer when your corn comes in. Several years ago an older lady in the neighborhood told me I was working way too hard to keep corn in the freezer. She said all I needed to do was to pick it and leave the shucks and silks just like they are. Lay the ears in large brown paper bags, roll the top down and put a clothespin on it to hold the rolled part, and place in the freezer just as they are. Sure, you may freeze a worm once in a while, but he will freeze too and won't eat anything. Just cut him out when you find one. Corn frozen this way is the only way we do it now. It tastes like you just picked it. The shucks and silks just slide right off. Just thought I would pass this along. Give it a try, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Hope ya'll have a great week and God bless.
First time viewer, and subscribed. LOVE you content!😊
I absolutely love your channel. Thanks so much for sharing your life.
I have never tried just making a gravy with the bacon grease. I bet that is delicious. I love tenderloins! My Dad is a gravy man also! When my Mom had her stroke recently, I had to make 3 separate pans of Salisbury steaks; and was told to make sure there was plenty of gravy. lol Those pigs are so cute!
I catch myself waving back at you and saying hi there in your intro, haha. I have chores of my own to tend to. See you next time.
When I was a boy we had a varied diet, One day we had taters and beans and the next day we had beans and taters. "Just kidding" . We were poor but we never went hungry a day in our life. We lived off of the farm mostly and you can't beat that anyway you slice it.
Hahaha 🤣🤣🤣
Our weekly menu was beans or greens, beans or greens!!! Meat was rare but gravy was plenty!
Hahaha 🤣🤣😂
Our weekly diet was beans or greens, beans or greens!! Meat was rare but gravy was plenty!!!
Childhood memories 😂😂
My daddy has always said that 😂😂😂
Love this video. I always wanted to live on a farm
I don't have a farm and I can only grow a few veggies but I do buy farm fresh veggies , meat and milk . And can it up during the summer for the winter. So good and good for you. Thanks for sharing your videos.
Oh my heavens! The Dinner looks like home to me! Now after heart attack I can no longer eat that way. Miss it so much.
You’re doing great 👍
Beautiful pigs 🐷 I guess them tasty on your plate 🍽️ 🥦🌽

great video guys ! I learn so much from you , from making good gravy to raising pigs , thank you so much for all the knowledge you put out there , it 's invaluable and so appreciated 👍
Hi 👋 lovely family hope you’re doing good 😊 ❤thank you for your video 😘 xx
Muscadine jelly is the best.
Just a tip when your new first year BlackBerry canes get 3 or 4 feet tall cut the top off. They will branch out and produce way more berries in a smaller area. I get gallons and gallons in an eight foot by 3 foot area. Its one of the best tips ive ever got. Great video 👍
Pigs love push the boundaries..seeing how far they can run to..lol.. they are beautiful
Maegan, I just want to tell you that me and my husband just absolutely love you and Andy we watch every video that you guys make on. You were doing the one on cleaning your meat birds oh my gosh I wanted to call you and be able to go hey I’ll come over. I wanna learn something from you. You guys are just an amazing family and we love your journey. I wouldn’t just want you to know that if I didn’t live in Oklahoma and have a neck brace on right now out of been over, lol

Ever make gravy with water?
Several weeks ago I made tenderloin sandwiches for supper. Pounded them out thin, dip in egg and then covered them in crushed saltines. Man were they good. Have a good day!
Yes absolutely! There have been many occasions that I’m out of milk so water it is lol
I don't know the ins and outs of farming, but wouldn't the cows just love that clover? Wouldn't that help their milk production? I could be all wrong.🙃🤷♀️I just love the dinners you cook. It all looks delicious. Love from Texas ❤
That particular clover is planted to feed the garden, the best way for it to feed the garden is chopping the roots and green matter back into the soil. So while we would’ve loved to feed it to the cows, that chopped in clover will cut our fertilizer needs in half this summer ☺️
I just started watching about a week ago, love how you cover all of the farm. I’m trying to go back to the basics where we live as much as possible from the land. Hoping in the future to raise some chickens for eggs and meat.
Hello everyone. Loretta from Kansas. Y'all inspire so many people. Prayer and blessings
