You just have to love how the kids never complain about doing anything when it comes to helping out on the farm. It seems they enjoy everything they’re doing and actually want to get involved. This is how every child should be. Their work ethic is amazing

Hi Megan, loved your video again,I’m gonna try the crisping of the enchilada they look great and seems like a good idea. A terrific sauce comes from (Rachel cooks with love( you tube) it’s made fresh or 2-3 days ahead. Not for canning but when I take the time it’s real good! She’s got good tips. Love watching Andy and the kids working and playing. We love our Kentucky beans. My husband is a KY boy:) he loves your channel and tells me about the old ways like you’re persevering! We appreciate you’al sharing.PS forgot to tell great video and interview with Breaking new roots!! Loved going around the property and hearing you retell stories!! You’re blessed!❤We’re in our 60s still growing veg like crazy, canning, freezing, drying whatever it takes. Keep it up!😊

Mowing after taking stock off of a pasture is a win win situation it promotes new growth and the grass that is cut down serves as fertilize and seed for the ground kind of like a cover crop.

I'm 75. I don't eat fast food anymore. I don't eat processed meals. If I don't cook it I don't eat it. 😂 I love enchiladas. Here's how I make my sauce. Great Value brand at Walmart.
    1/14.5 ounce can taco salsa
1/ 15 ounce can tomato sauce
    ½ teaspoon onion powder
    1 tablespoon of smoked paprika
Mix well and pour over enchiladas.

    GARDENING FOR BEGINNERS
Peas don't like too much water
    Potatoes don't like tomatoes
    Potatoes don't like cucumbers
    Potatoes and cabbage are friends
Do not plant peas or beans with onions or beets
    Beans love carrots
    Beets love onion, cabbage, potatoes
    Tomatoes love carrots, peas
    Cabbage does not like radishes
Carrots and onions do well together
    Marigolds can help repel pests
Looking forward to seeing your gardens flourish and grow
Much love from Vancouver, BC Canada 🌻🌻🌻
I posted this because I heard Andy say, he's gonna plant tomatoes and potatoes together, it's not a good idea. With competition for nutrients and airflow, both are susceptible to pests and diseases. Cross contamination can yield to reduced crop yield and quality

My wife makes/cans homemade verde green sauce that we use for enchiladas. It is made from green tomatoes and a couple other ingredients that I'm not sure of, but I will say, it is a family favorite and plus it uses those end of the year green tomatoes that we typically have an abundance of. If you're interested let me know and I can get her to send that recipe....once you eat the green sauce you won't want the red hahaha

The animals have to be fed too 😊

Have you ever taken your canned pork and made what we call tenderloin gravy? It's my favorite! Just dump the pork and "juice grease" into the pan. Get the pork hot and the grease melted. Remove the pork and make your gravy, then add the pork back in. I rough chop the pork if it's really big chunks. Pour over some biscuits and eat like a king..lol. Hope ya'll have a great weekend. I think we are getting rain off and on over the next several days. That will make everything grow. Ya'll take care and God bless.

On that pasture mowing, we never did it that I can recall. But as my ol' Dad used to say "you won't know unless you try it". Sounds like a good idea. Another way to boost grow is to put urea on the field with a cone spreader.

You should keep one of the boxes the belt for your hay mower came in, so you can refer to it when you need new belts...plus, if you replace them often, buy more than one set at a time, to have in case of breakage, or prices sky rocketing as they do.

Once again, I must say that, aside from watching Meagan cook the wonderful and filling meals, I really enjoy watching your children. I would dare to say that both your son and daughter would, even at this young age, put most of the modern 'soy-boys and girls' to shame if this country suffers from any of the forecasted calamities. They both have questioning minds, and both like to learn and work what they are taught. I can only hope that more families teach their children the same things in the same way....and I hope, when the collapse happens (lol) that I live near you or them. LOL Thank You so much.

Your weather is a lot different then in my neck of the woods. In SW Florida, the magic number is 4 inches. Anything below 4 inches will inhibit root growth. At least 4
inches above ground will provide enough nourishment to sustain and grow a healthy root system. The less green you have the smaller your root system. It's a balance.

Hey buddy, my dad would take a sickle mower and set the draft high on the tractor and he would go over the pastures after the grass got high and seeded out.He called it clipping the grass, it made it easier for the cattle to graze and he said that it would help to prevent pinkeye. I am an old feller now and I really enjoy and appreciate your family sharing your life on the farm.Y’all do it like my family did as I grew up and the way I continue to do things, please keep up the good work.

Cutting grass promotes new growth.I’d say cut it on a high setting. Speaking of grass seed heads.when I was a kid one day I got the notion I was going to pick fescue seed heads for my Daddy to plant.I picked about a half a dish pan full. When he came home from work he said he didn’t need to plant right now. But we could feed them to the cows and believe me they will eat them!

Intensive rotational grazing is a good way to manage your grasses, instead of mowing. Are you organic? If not , instead of investing in all the costs associated with mowing (diesel & labor), i usually spend the diesel money pulling a spray rig w Grazon in it. Grazon = 2-4-D
One dose of spray is better than a dose of fertilizer. If the cows don’t eat the seed heads, they will propagate on their own.

Yeah, mow after cattle for a healthier pasture - those dagummed weed seeds dont need dispersal so get before the do - fyi, grasses have about a 4 day growth cycle - promote grass, hinder weeds - mower might get a little dirty under there from pies

You did a great job on this video. Going back and forth made me feel like I spent the day with you. If I could only taste the enchiladas!
