- Today we are working in the garden, getting our cucumbers trellised and I'll show you my version of the florida weave for staking up your tomatoes. Also there is some disappointing news in our no till bed, we aren't so sure we are going to try this again.

I'm not a safety police type of guy just for the record but as a 65 year old guy that never bought into the whole skin cancer thing you might want to start wearing a wide brim hat and at least during the heat of the day either wear sleeves or some sun screen. I'm paying the price now for my own decisions but you guys are still young. Love your channel guys.
Best to wear 'natural' sunscreen... the chemical sunscreen is almost worse for your body than skin cancer.
I always hate it when your videos come to an end. I could watch them for hours.
For the voles, go buy some castor oil (make sure it is NOT the odorless or tasteless kind), add a tablespoon to a gallon of water and a small squirt of dish soap. Shake it up and spray everything, veg, grass, mulch it's not going to damage anything. How it works is by changing the taste and smell of their foods and their territory. It won't hurt them but it runs them out of the area. You might need to do it often at first, especially if you get a lot of rain. But once you get them pushed out of your gardens you will just need to maintain it with a good spray right before it gets cold when they want to live in your mulch for winter. Spray early morning or evenings. I tried everything to get rid of mine for years and this worked, you just have to stay consistent with it. Good Luck!
The wire worm are the larva of the click Beatle They will bore holes through all your root crops and turn them to mush/rot..
Id cover your garden in Diatomaceous Earth every couple of years. That helped my growing tremendously. Neem oil didn't do much in my part of the country but the DE sure did. Love your channel!
Great Tip!!! The tip you asked for. Get a long piece of PVC pipe the length from your hand to the ground. Then run your twine trough it. Feed from top down to bottom. Tie the twine coming out of the bottom to your T-Post. Then give the twine some slack walk to your next post and wrap around the post then pull tight. Then go to your next post and so on. No more bending going down the rows.
Megan my raised bed has beautiful tomatoes okra and beans .flowers herbs praise the lord.can't believe it. They were all from seeds I started.Watching y'all got me going .god bless.

I had the same problem with my pepper plants this season, once they eat the top out of them, they are pretty much done.I grow organic whenever possible but I will not tolerate a complete crop failure to avoid pesticides, it ain’t worth it for all the hard work you put in. I dust them with some Seven powder and let them ride. For everyone who will not use pesticides in an emergency situation, have fun admiring your pepper nubs.

Andy I'm like you I like to till my garden before planting. I like the old ways.
We live on the top of a Ridge line with lots of heavy clay and rocks. We till every year and constantly adding in shredded leaves, homemade compost and we can finally grow lots of root veggies.
Here's a little tip for you use zip ties to fasten the cattle panels to your tea post. I enjoy watching all of you in the garden and it warms my heart to see your kids helping. That's so awesome. God bless.
Good morning yes i've had exactly the same problem with peppers this year... The culprit was Earwigs. I get rid of them by spraying Around the outside of the Planter so they don't climb up The planter at night and eat the leaves. They tend to Live underneath the mulch and planters themselves in the dirt and come out at night.

I bake small carrots in the oven with balsamic vinegar and honey brushing it on them every ten minutes it is delicious.
Yes rolliepollie I have 1000 of them and I use Slugoo on my plants and strawberries or they will eat it down every time.

And don't forget that you can take the sucker branches, especially the thick sucker branches, from the tomatoes to make new tomato plants with strong main stems. I just use a broom handle, poke a deep hole in the ground, maybe a 10" to 12" deep, fill it with water, then take the sucker (which I've kept stuck in my watering can until I plant it), strip the leaves but at the very top, then pop it down in the hole, and keep filling the hole with water until it's had all it can take. Now the sucker will look wilty for a few days, but it will stand right up again and supply you with later-in-the-season tomatoes. Be sure to water the sucker in the ground every day for a few days until it grows roots along that stem. One year I planted eight tomato plants and ended up with over twentyfive just from suckers, had tomatoes all the way to Thanksgiving (in Southern California). My mom, raised on a farm, taught me that over 60 years ago, bless her. Also, cabbage and asparagus like wet soil, so if your ground gets boggy after rains, no worries. Have you tried planting persimmon trees in your boggy soil? They seem to do well here when it rains and the ground gets marshy (I know CA is dry as heck, but when it does rain, it RAINS, as happened this year). We grew Hachyias and Fuyus. Mom used Hachyias for breads and bread puddings, and the Fuyus you eat like an apple and can bake apple-like pies with them.

Enjoyed this, as always! I’ll tell you a few things that absolutely changed my carrot life: 1. I got out of the ground and into containers. No matter how much broadforking, tilling, breaking I did “in ground” compaction was still a problem. In containers I can control my soil consistency (lots of perlite and a little peat in the mix) and get lots fewer “mutants” and more long, straight carrots. Fire ants are a nuisance in some of my containers , especially the black ones. I think it’s a heat thing they are looking for. 2. I plant early and overwinter my carrots. Mid October is what I shoot for. I’m in N Central Alabama and have had good luck with this schedule. I’m harvesting about now. 3. I plant only pelleted seeds now and am able to get proper spacing. I haven’t thinned carrots in years! I’m after Greg at Hoss to get pelleted carrot seeds back! We’ll see how that goes. They used to carry them but not now. Pelleted seeds can be a little hard to find but Johnny’s Seeds always carries a good selection. These few things made a WORLD of difference for me! You’ll also be surprised just how many carrots you can fit into your containers. I use plastic 55 gal drums cut in half and pots that trees are grown in. My brother is the Director at a nearby Botanical Gardens and is able to get plenty of “tree pots”. Give it a try and see what you think!

Use some sevin dust on your peppers. I know it’s synthetic stuff but look better some peppers with it than no peppers without it. My grandma used it every summer garden and we all survived no cancers or anything in the family. I know it’s cliche now a days but it serves a purpose when it’s absolutely necessary. I have using Food grade “Diatomaceous earth” for 4 years. When I started gardening, I had the same problem with my peppers or something eating them. Though I could never see what was eating and I did also have a a problem with roly-poly. DE does work. You need to wear a mask on a windy day.

Granulated caster oil to detour moles and voles. They hate the scent.
Plant some watermelon and cantaloupe in that bottom of the corn. It should do well there.

If you have never done garden work like hilling and hoeing the rows people would be surprised what a job and a workout it actually is. I have approximately a 40-50x70-80 garden and it’s full. Believe me I have been getting a workout haha.

Its the rollie pollies eating your peppers!! Theyre eating everything in my garden. I have been reading in gardening forums since the spring and everyone is having rollie pollies galore!! And theyre eating the plants, not just the dead debris. I tried removing mulch but they still eat the plants. When is rollie pollie season over?! PS, yall are great! I just love how normal (to me) that you both are.
My peppers are doing the same thing they look just like yours. Not sure what's eating them .I thought at first it was the birds.then like you something in my straw was eating them!
I planted carrots in an above ground horse trough and they were so big I could not even give them all away.

Voles r the worst thing I’ve dealt with in gardening. They’re so bad here in the SE part of NC that I have to grow everything in raised beds with hardware cloth stapled all over the bottom of the beds to keep the voles out. I also grow in grow bags. They live around the bases of trees or large bushes here so they’re worse near the woods. That’s why they’re bothering the stuff on the edge of your garden more I do believe. The carrot harvest still looked great. Take care y’all
Sprinkle wood ash on your pepper plants it helps deter pesky bugs and it is a good natural fertilizer
That corn looks much better Andy. When all else fails, plow it. I tore my right rotator cuff back in February and while it's much better, it ain't there yet. I bought a t post driver exactly like yours to drive my tomato stakes with and it was a life saver. Y'all's garden looks great especially the tomatoes. That worm looked like a wire worm. I had them hit some tobacco on my aunt's farm one time. They used to like to eat the roots of my cucumbers just after they came up. They like to bore into the stalk underground and usually you'll notice the plant just withering down and dying. Y'all have a great day!

There's a product called VoleX that's safe around pets, fowl, children etc that works great at deterring voles and mice.

I can't remember what kind of tomatoes yall planted. I found a new variety last year that we loved. I have never been able to plant enough tomatoes to can, but last year, it happened. I got Amelia tomato plants from our local high school horticulture class and fell in love with them. They are disease resistant and produced a lot of fruit.
I remember you trellising your tomatoes last year and because Andy’s so tall, he may not get up when he’s done. Lol sorry Andy, I just thought it was funny ❣️🙏

We use hog panel and T post for cucumbers and for spaghetti squash. We have never had luck with carrots or garlic. Corn is looking a lot better. I wonder if that plow shoe on the Kubota has a specific angle/degree, you might be able to look up and adjust it. Those clods would bust up with a walk behind tiller pretty easy, I bet. Them cattle panels are the handiest thing there is. I actually arched mine over my cucumbers this year.
This year my peppers plants are similar..pest the ones in the beds ..
I have two overwintered peppers in plants chairs, big platters on my porch now those are doing great. I guess cause I watch them every day fertilize every two weeks and I am getting great cooking peppers off of those two trees. I would say now cause they’re overwintered, they got stocks on them. I pull off10 of them and there’s a whole bunch growing again People freak out Plan trees on my porch, but I like them. They’re very pretty to 🌱🌱🌱
Would it be possible to take tires off one of the old tractors or trucks? They would probably cause the chicken coop to be higher off the ground but you could add a board to the door with a hinge that folds so the board reaches the ground.

Hey y’all. I feel your pain with the onions. I planted 200 last year. They were beautiful big bulbs and the voles/moles/“rodents “ moved in and ate every one of them. I was mad! The positive, I had planted around a slow growing raspberry bush. I don’t know if it was me or the rodents but all the soil being “tilled” my raspberry has sent runners everywhere. I have a huge raspberry bush now. Of and that reflective tape y’all showed last week. I ordered some and run it all around that raspberry bush. It is working to keep the birds out. I am getting a great harvest ( it’s an ever bearing) so yeah!!
I have had the same problem with my peppers in the ground this year. I also have a problem with a family of rabbits eating my flowers, so I am blaming them. The peppers I have in pots are fine so it’s not birds. It’s got to be rabbits or mice. I even set up a trail camera trying to catch what it was, lol. No pics but my pepper plants are eat to the ground. Interesting through the peppers I planted in between my tomatoes didn’t get damaged.

I use the cattle panels and t posts for my cucumbers, runner beans, and tomatoes. Hope I never have to go back to staking everything. Bought a gas cultivator yesterday to help battle weeds.

The worms in the onions are wireworms. Larva of the click beetles. They will get into your potatoes also. I’ve noticed that they like red onions and potatoes more than white.

Carrie McClain Megan put some Neptune organic fertilizer it works wonders and feeds the soil watch you every day.
Try a heavy potassium phosphate fertilizer next year for the carrots. Made a huge difference for me in North GA.

Great idea about the cucumbers with those cattle panels-we used old woven wire it worked pretty good too. Like you said waaaay better than picking them off the ground!
My father in law did plant his peas very early and the got tall like yours did this year, because they prefer and can stand cold/cooler temps like broccoli and cabbage . Your cabbage plants make me so happy! they are beautiful! So glad you left your corn 😀 . Sweet boy mowing grass.
