Apart from the irony of Order 66, it's funny how Kenobi criticizes the droid army, when the Separatists actually believe it's far more humane, as they don't have to sacrifice actual lives. In a way, the separatists are correct. Once the war is over, the droids can just shut down and be kept in storage. The clones, however, would be pretty much displaced in a peaceful society.
Wait seriously? Damn. I actually want to read a book about the separatist pov in this war. It would make clone wars more interesting than it already is
Johan S Yeah, from what I understand, a large chunk of the Separatist politicians are largely uninvolved with the military, and are more focused with helping improve the lives of their planets. As can be seen in one episode, where they were willing to negotiate peace. Dooku, Gunrray and other corporate leaders are the ones in charge of the military.
@@datemasamune2904 OB1 didn't critisize droid army, but Grevious' motives. As a proud warrior and general, it's not like he can earn his army respect or inspire them, they're just droids... Hope U know what I mean
@@fiucik1 I get it, but that sorta makes less sense, considering that most of these B1 battle droids seem to respond to praise and threats like regular folk.
Yeah canon grievous tends to win his interactions with or without Magna guards, but it's not even the force that screws him over. It's plot armour. There's 2 times here where grievous could have used his other two arms to kill kenobi, but proceeded to just hold 4 lightsabers to his one blade. And this can be seen in literally every fight of his. Instead of using his arms to attack (weather it be 2 or 4) he instead just aims for peoples lightsabers. Then the victim gets away, uses the force grievous runs, and then he's a coward. The writers really screwed up an amazing character.
Remember what I taught you general, if you are to succeed against the best of the Jedi, you must have fear and intimidation at your side. But if any one is lacking it would be best for you to retreat. Only then you will be able to defeat the them and gain your trophy........
To be fair Grievous' motivations for a future without Jedi are justified in a way. Before becoming the lead General of the droid army, his species the Kaleesh had a rivalry with a neighboring species called Huk. The Jedi sided with the Huk against the Kaleesh. Sometime later on a bomb was set inside of his ship which fatally injured him but not killing him. He later woke up to Count Dooku who actually planted the bomb in Grievous' ship but Dooku told Grievous that the Jedi did it. This is also the simplified backstory of General Greivous for people who didn't know. Also Greivous isn't the General's real name. It's Qymaen jai Sheelal.
In Canon as established by this show, that’s not actually his backstory anymore. Instead, Grievous chose to transform himself into a cyborg through successive enhancements in his quest to drive the Jedi from his homeworld. His warrior backstory remains the same, but he is no longer a victim of Dooku’s manipulation.
@@TheyWantMeGone69 I think it gives him more agency, which is a good thing in a villain backstory when you’re not trying to create a tragic or sympathetic villain like Grievous isn’t.
What I love about this fight is something I learned from someone else. The reason mace windu never wanted to fight grievous is because he can mimic fighting styles and the style mace uses is very aggressive. However obi wan uses a very defensive style forcing grievous to go on the attack hindering his ability to mimic the style
Exactly, it's a nice touch. Obi-Wan's style being suited to blocking blaster bolts specifically (which are akin to blocking multiple lightsabers) also makes him the perfect counter to Grievous, hence why he was picked for Utapau over Windu or any other Jedi Master.
@@randomshittutorials tbf we are talking about the same grevious who took lightsabers as trophies and believed jedi were the reason for his disfigurement… ignoring or not fighting a jedi is a HARD pill for him to swallow
Damn if the Sepratist really wanted to win they should've switched to mass producing Commando Droids, they cut down clones as fast as clones cut down standard battle Droids.
The problem with this is that the CIS and the republic were both controlled by Palpatine, who wanted to drag the war out and kept both sides more or less balanced.
why would he want that though? if the CIS is strong enough they could just take down the Republic making that complicated plan with the coup thing not needed
+ Dr. Boring you can't create Clone Commandos they start out as any other clone and then they rise up in the rank of CC even if they could it would cost way more than the average clone and if you remember just making normal clones nearly bankrupted the Republic
Ah man. I wish instead of the already stupified Obi vs Grievous they should have used some No-name-Jedis which get killed by Grievous. I mean what should the poor guy do against Plot Armor?
+TurKlack Fun fact dave filoni originally was going to have grievous kill Eeth Koth. But then he had second thoughts because he thought he might want to use the character later on. Years later and he never did (unless I am mistaken). Which is a darn shame grievous killing a jedi master/council member. Might have helped in convincing people he earned the title of knightslayer.
Aura Force Well part of the unaired season 7 seemed to have just been focusing on Anakin obi wan and more mace windu (YAY). And dark disciple might have made it to TV instead of just being a book.
"Not so impressive fights" The guy has tuberculosis and is non force sensitive while being able to wipe out thousands of jedi and I think his arrogance enjoyment makes him even a better leader general honestly if he would have had the support of Palatine and count dooku with more enforcement the war would be over with separatists Winning it so yeah I don't think it's right to say he didn't make impressive fights the guy was literally a combat beast without the best armor and without force welding powers
@@Dav624 I dont even remember making this comment loll, but back then i think i compared him too much with the 2003 clone wars grievous and how his fights in this show was less impressive and we usually saw him losing and never actually saw his victories in the war. 1:45 and then obi wan’s precious army with “spirit and loyalty” betrays the Jedi, because of their *programming* props to the script writers, they knew how to plan ahead
I can't stand when people call General Grievous a coward. He's always willing to stand his ground and fight and he only retreats when he's at a tactical disadvantage. He was more than willing to fight Kenobi until he used the force on him, obviously Grevious can't use the force so that's a major advatnage over him that would get him killed. Why would he stick around for that? Lmao. He has fought several Jedi at once several times being quick and stealthy, some have also called this cowardly when in fact Grevious had the advantage and kept it. He's no coward, he's just a very smart soldier. The only time Grevious made a mistake in this judgement was when he fought Kenobi for the last time and thought Kenobi was down, in which the force was his downfall. Grevious was very good at playing the gambler's game, but every dog has his day. Grevious was no coward.
@Alex Souster He fell down. Falling isn't a loss. We've seen him get up many times and block lightsaber attacks while on the ground, i.e. Kit Fisto. That was also more than just falling, he had no legs and was fighting 2 Jedi and a clone unit and he still held his own. He just underestimated her and realized beating her would take longer than he thought, which he didn't have time for. His mission was to kill the witch that was literally about to kill Dooku.
The clones were extremely loyal to their brothers and the republic. That's why the ARC troopers and the jedi didn't really get along, differing ideologies about the war
The clones might have themselves fooled into thinking their loyalty and spirit is real. But if you don't know anything else, and are created, brainwashed, and programmed to be that way, how can it be real? They are a slave army who fight for a government with anti-slavery laws. Do the clones even know anything about the Republic they're fighting for, if they've grown up in Kamino's sterile laboratories, so far away from the culture, society, and policies of the Republic? At the end of the day, despite what the clones themselves may think, it is only programming. Slick betrayed his fellow clones, the Jedi, and the Republic right at the beginning of the war; but when your only options are loyalty and sacrifice, or treason and loss, there is still no choice.
"An army with no loyalty, no spirit, just programming!" says the guy leading an army that was born for the soul purpose for war without caring about their own ambitions, who will turn on you without a second thought because of protocols
exactly, tankbreed soldiers brainwashed since birth who have no rights or thoughts of their own forced to fight a war they have no role in. real pot calling the kettle black situation.
It's a shame that he's also the only Star Wars villain to get a severe nerf...and one so ball-busting that his entire reputation was almost completely destroyed.
2:20 I know they don't want to make Grievous overpowered again, but I can't help but always look at these 1 vs 4 lightsaber fights. He strikes Obi-Wan with all 4 lightsabers, and while Obi-Wan is trying to deflect Grievous could easily remove 1 arm and stab Obi-Wan right in the chest, whilst still having 3 lightsabers keeping Obi-Wan on the defensive. Heck, you could do a lot with 4 lightsabers-- Though you know... I guess thinking like that would easily end a lot of lore, hah!
+Thaal Sinestro Both shows are good in their own rights, except CW had much more battlefield violence and death whereas Rebels is mostly centered around the shenanigans of one group.
Aiden Macky have you seen how over the top grevious was in that series? his level of power made no sense when you realize that he was just a disposable pawn
+Anthony Rodriguez Well, he was supposed to be the equalizer to the jedis. He kind of needed to be obnoxiously overpowered to justify the droid army ever being of any threat whatsoever against the jedi.
joshua kim the droid army was just fine without grevious They had ventress durge dooku and literally trillions of Battle droid's with hundreds of variation I don't think they needed grevious
this is so dumb, he has 4 sabers but chooses to swing it all at the same angle in the same direction at the same time, he could literally just left one for defense and the other 3 for stabbing and obi wan would have been dead in one blow exchange -.-
Why wouldn't that make sense? He's suppose to be attacking them constantly, staying close and never allowing them the chance to use their Force abilities outside of their augmentation. It makes perfect sense...
Yomil Dank Are you forgetting that Grevious has the capability to jump and move very fast as well due to his cybernetics? It wouldn't be that easy for most Jedi.
There are so many reasons why the Legends version of General Grievous was a much better character than the new canon Grievous in Clone wars, they really messed him up hard. If the writers of the Clone Wars wanted to have a incompetent brute they should have kept the bounty hunter Durge. The Old General Grievous was a tragic tale of a hero who became a monster because he was doing what he thought was right but became consumed by anger based on lies from Count Doku foreshadowing the fall of Anakin to becoming Darth Vader based in the lies of Emperor Palpatine. In fact General Greivous was meant to be a prototype of the cybernetics program that gave Darth Vader his life support suit.
...wait...why didn't they use Durge for this now that i think about it? They scraped through the entire jedi barrel to dig up every random ass jedi with the tiniest of references, yet they never bothered to bring Durge in on this, even when they introduced several bounty hunters later on?!
Bysthedragon regardless, the 2003 clone wars was way too good. That was it's flaw, it out shined and over hyped episode 3. Every single complaint about the prequel trilogy was resolved in a measly 2 hours and 15 minutes. That's the reason they didn't want it as canon, because it shows that they could've done something great with the prequels instead of what we got.
Notice how on 2:05 obi wan does the same move on grievous he does on ROTS except here on their first proper lightsaber duel he gets knocked down by grievous (yes i mean proper cause in their first encounter they only briefly touched blades and grievous wasnt using 4 lightsabers) so nice reference to ROTS
Obiwan can’t use the force because grievous is so fast for him to and using the force requires concentration which is why grievous always retreats when Jedi use the force because that creates distance between grievous and the Jedi allowing them to use the force easily
@@xd51000 This series stretches the limits of the continuity like freaking taffy, I have to joke about it. At least Genndy Tartakovsky's version stayed somewhat faithful to the continuity of the movies, even if it was a much shorter series. Granted we wouldn't have Ahsoka so...fair trade.
"I've been trained in your JEDI ARTS by Count Dooku." "Oh cmon, stop talking like you're fighting me for the first time." "Oh, sorry, Kenobi. I just didn't watch the show."
I love how Grievous just laughs and chuckles at everything like it makes him so happy to fight like he can never lose the ultimate smack talker to when he does .... Hardest villain in star wars no cap 💯💯💯
2:20 Practically the ONLY time in the whole series that Grievous fighting style with four lightsabers was accurately portrayed in the series, for about five seconds.
The best part of this scene was where Grievous revealed his sole motivation: he was in it strictly for the war itself. Leading armies and killing made him content. Lawful Evil.
I’d argue he’s Neutral Evil. To be Lawful, he would have to follow some sort of code, but he hardly even pretends to do that. He just wants to kill Jedi, and the power is something he certainly enjoys, but it’s mostly just a means for him to eliminate the Jedi Order.
Goddamn Grievous is intimidating in lightsaber combat.....not as intimidating as his 2003 variant but I can see how fighting him would be rather terrifying.
In all fairness Grievous performed pretty damn well, he had Kenobi pushed back on his heels that entire fight up until he used the force. Even after that he was able to force his way past him to escape capture and even sent him flying down the ramp in their second(albeit very brief) engagement. Respect grievous!
“ I here a lot of talking Anakin. But in the final accounting, where does all that talking get you? A futile quest for power, a mutilated body, and your place as Sidious’s errand boy!!!” Wait
I find it really annoying how the whole sequence that starts at 0:33 is flipped horizontally (it's not edited for the purpose of this video, this error is in the original episode).
My favorite part is when the pilots are like "We've lost our stabilizers, I can't hold her steady." Bitch, you're in space, what are you "holding steady?" There are no directions; there is no empirical orientation. The ship is always "the right way up."
Oddly enough General Kenobi literally says everything what Anakin would become in just a few years and he doesn’t even know it 1:25 "A futile quest for power, a mutilated body" 😔 Obi Wan then says General Grievous is a puppet for Dooku and a errands boy much like Vader would be for the Emperor. But Grievous says he isn’t in the war for Dooku politics which is similar to Vader. Vader only fought for the Emperor to become powerful enough to kill Jedi out of spite and to defeat the Emperor so he could rule the Galaxy.
Kiron Gauff That was only for like one day in Ep.3 until Padme died compared to the full life of Darth Vader who wanted revenge from the Jedi & wanted to rule the galaxy.

+Kryten Mark well yeah i see what you mean, started training padawns again, don't mention ben solo(kylo ren) xD

That's actually a pretty fun idea
Then again, with that idea Grevieous could just ignore Obi Wan and not care about him forcing Obi Wan to attack and copy him regardless

True
The Separatist are lucky the Republic didn't mass produce Clone Commandos.
why would he want that though?
if the CIS is strong enough they could just take down the Republic

Are you forgetting that Grevious has the capability to jump and move very fast as well due to his cybernetics?
+Joshua kim they intended to make Durge but scrapped him in favor of Cad Bane. Maybe the Animation of his mutated form would have been too expensive.
