      For the high frequency layer, you make a duplicate of the OG picture and when you click filters in the top bar, click high pass and put it like at a number 10. Make it linear light and for low frequency, make a duplicate of OG and blur it

    I don't know why I feel compelled to say this, but there was so much hate in the comments it seemed necessary. I have never even heard of frequency separation, and I was able to follow this tutorial and understand it without much difficulty. Even after reading the comments before she got into the initial steps. So thank you for this! I found it super helpful!

    Could you probably make a video about "finding your own style"? I'm taking pictures for many years now and I feel like every time I'm editing in photoshop I'm not happy with the result and it could be so much better and blabla-.-

    • @sabrinaachamberlain
      @sabrinaachamberlain 7 лет назад +7

      Finding your style is def something hard to find... I think photographers are always on a constant search for their style since we're always changing as an individual our style can slightly shift as well. Following photographers I liked on Instagram actually helped me mold my style since it allowed me to become inspired on a daily basis on what I visually enjoyed (: good luck!!

    • @zeusollie2943
      @zeusollie2943 7 лет назад +15

      I had the same problem! After a few years of shooting, I took a hiatus for about two years because of school and personal reasons. Once I got back into photography, my style became completely different but the series of photos I put out suddenly had a cohesive style. It was shocking to me at first because it wasn't something I intended to do, nor did I consciously try to make sure that my photos followed a certain look - but somehow they did on their own. A lot of people will tell you to keep shooting and keep looking for new and different inspiration but to be honest, while that helps you learn more techniques and more styles of shooting, it can make it more difficult also because you're exposed to vastly different styles that you all want to emulate. I realized months after ending my hiatus that I developed a consistent style not because I was trying to or because I kept shooting until I found it, but because after my hiatus I became more sure of who I was (what kind of person I was, what kind of values and beliefs I had, the things I cared about, the things I didn't care about, etc), which I guess also made me realize exactly what kind of work I wanted to put out. I think when you know who you are and strive not to "find your style" but, rather, strive for your photos to REFLECT who you are and what you're feeling and your personality (not just in terms of photography but in all aspects of your life), your photos became not only more personal, but also more consistent because the "style" your photos is going to show is a reflection of yourself (which will be quite consistent if you're confident in who you are).
      Not to say that merging different styles and looks from other photographers isn't going to help you develop your style. It will, but I think at that point, without adding who your own self into the equation, it's not really going to be *your* style which is why it could change so dramatically between photos.
      I hope that made sense! And I'm sorry it was long and kinda preachy. Basically I just wanted to say that even if you know what styles you like, you can't really know what style best reflects you if you don't really know who you are.

    • @LilLion1818
      @LilLion1818 7 лет назад +1

      Catherine Ong thank you very much. It really makes sense! A few weeks ago I tried to see what my work is really about and what I love and what I don't like so much... stopped watching other photographers work and focused on mine. I feel like it helped me a lot to hear my own voice again ♥️

    • @ElowenFaye
      @ElowenFaye 7 лет назад +4

      a good way to find your own style is to define what is NOT your style. when you say "I don't like pictures with much saturation" you automatically say that you like the colors to be more natural. Another way is to look at pictures of other photographers , pictures that really impress you . look at them very long and write down why you like them... maybe its an interesting perspective, maybe you like it when the light is really soft, when the background is blurry, when the eyes are catchy and glowing ...and then you can try to do that with your own pictures. remember, it's not copying, it's called inspiration ;) take what you like from other artists, add what you personally like, and voilà you have your own style

    • @xcelestialx
      @xcelestialx 7 лет назад

      Catherine Ong Yesss the exact same thing happened to me, after I took a hiatus I came back to photography and just felt what style i wanted to have every time I took a photo. (I also notice in winter time everything becomes edited slightly darker from my seasonal depression lol) It definitely can’t be something you try to force! But following photographers that inspire you on social media is also helpful.

    I love this edit so much. It makes it look professional but not too edited like the fashion portrait shoot (which I understand there are different requirements for fashion shoots) but some fashion shoot that keeps the face natural looking is somewhat more appealing to me. I am a portrait artist, not a photographer, so my opinion does not mean much, but I really think this is the best way to edit your portraits.

    Thank you so so much!!! I’ve recently found your channel and you’re super informative and helpful with everything you show, I feel like I didnt even learn this much in my college photography classes lol. Being a mostly natural light photographer myself, I notice I have trouble keeping the sharpness of my photos when shooting in low light. I shoot on manual mode but I can never see to get the aperture/shutter speed just right without the photo being too dark or too blurry. It’s fine when I have a lot of time, but usually I’m trying to work quickly to get the shot at photoshoots like indoor wedding receptions! It’s a struggle and I would love to see some tips for that if you haven’t already made a video. 😊
